Is there a Siri command to get to the home screen from the lock screen?

Here is the situation - an elderly friend of mine (94 years old) was in a panic because there were text messages on the lock screen and try as he might he could not "slide to open."
He has no passcode set.
Anyway, I had him try this and it worked:
1. Use Siri to "open calendar."
2. After it opened, press the Home button to get to the home screen.
That way he was able to get in.
Is there a Siri command to go directly to the Home Screen from the lock screen? I tried various things I could think of, but couldn't figure out anything that worked.
What would be best is being able to bypass the lock screen altogether. I have another elderly friend who is blind and it is a source of constant confusion for him.
As for voiceover - he is finding it impossible to figure out. I can see, and I am also finding it impossible to figure out. We tried to use it to get into the TED app and select, play and stop videos and all sorts of weird UI elements starting popping up and it was frustrating him so we turned voiceover off. But that's for another discussion thread.
In the meantime, is there an easy way to get home if somebody is having trouble sliding?
Thanks,
doug

Yes, that can sometimes be true.
Unless your older but sighted friend has difficulty with fine motor movements, I suspect that the slide to open is a matter of practice. If you can convice your friend that they are capable of learning it and get them to work with it a bit that might help. I've found that older learners can become frustrated very quickly with technology. They either have themselves convinced they can't learn technolgy or that get annoyed because iPhones are supposed to be "intuative". The challenge is getting them to feel okay about being a beginner at something.
You're a good friend to take on this teaching task.
Best of luck.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p.

My mom updated her iPhone to iOS7, and now she has my contacts. Does this mean that she has access to all of my photos as well? How can she 'unlink' our phones? Or, is there anyway that I can get my stuff to disappear from her phone? We share iTunes account so I think we are both on the same iCloud.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you are using the same ID as a primary iCloud login, then yes she can see your photos in photostream if you have it enabled.
You can use the same ID for iTunes so you can share all your purchases, but you need different ID's for iCloud.
Unfortunately, the mess caused by sharing the ID, will need to be sorted manually, once you both have your own ID's.

You have to change the cursor focus.
What I usually do for PDF pages/tabs, is click in the URL/location bar, then F11.<br />
For Flash, if you click on the page outside of the video area/box, F11 should work.

Did you check the Zoom setting?
Have you tried a reset (reboot)? Hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears.
If it isn't Zoom and a reboot doesn't help try Settings/General/Reset - Reset all settings

You are in Recovery Mode. Follow the instructions below to recover your iPad.
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.

  • I forgot my password and can't get past the lock

I have a WDBBP0010BBK-01 external drive that I have for over 3 yrs. My Dell crashed recently and I did a restore.
i wanted to get some files out of the passport and I forgot my password and can't get past the lock.
Can anyone help me unlock this drive.

    Hello,
Without the correct password you are not going to be able to get into the drive. I recommend you try to remember the password or you will have to erase the drive in order to use it again.

I have iPad air, screen freezes after FaceTime call and cannot get back to home screen, have to power down and turn back on to get back to home screen.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hi RWD2,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
To resolve your issue with Facetime freezing when you end a call, I would try the first three steps in the article below.
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3281
    Resolution
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If you are using Wi-Fi, it may be helpful to try these troubleshooting steps as well:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398?viewlocale=en_US
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • IPad 2 stuck on apple logo and not charging but keeps rebooting without getting to the lock screed

My iPad 2 ran out of battery last night while I was playing a game on it, it keeps attempting to reboot but only gets as far as the apple logo before powering off, displaying low battery screen and rebooting again,  it has been on it's charger all night, I have tried resetting it but it just starts up again, can anyone tell me how to force it to shut down so it can try to charge before i try it again? (I can't get to the lock or the screen and pressing the power button and the home button together won't work) I thought the charger/cable may have been the problem but no cable or charger seems to work.
It doesn't seem to matter to it if it's connected to a computer or not

I am having the exact same problem!! did anyone figure anything out with this?!?!?!
it just keeps trying to reboot and it only gets as far as the logo then it'll reboot again!!

  • Is there a way to really get at the source of ongoing internal disk I/O?

On Mountain Lion, I'm noticing that the hard drive is being accessed considerably - I can hear it.  As if it's some big sync or a big write to disk.  And yet Activity Monitor shows very little - just a few little spikes in disk I/O when this happens.  Since I can't identify a single application that would be causing that, I thought it might be swapping to disk.  But there's 8GB on my MacBook Pro and I'm only using 1GB or so, as I have all applications closed but Terminal and a Safari using around 300MB or so.  I had thought that it was mds that was consuming the I/O, but I disabled that temporarily and found the same I/O patterns.  I see that there are no major processes running that are using more than 20% or so, via top, and I've also run iotop and fs_usage, which are either uninformative or provide way too much information.  I'm very concerned that I'll eventually harm the hard drive if I'm accessing it literally all the time, and I'm certainly using a lot more battery if it's writing in these patterns.  It could be a lot of things, but what I'd like to know is how can I best find out what's going on.  It seems to be something internal.  Is there a better tool to get at what's going on?  Some filter I can apply to the existing tools?

Extracting this type of information can be difficult, especially when there is no big ticket item that shows up easily in diagnostic output.  I am not an OS X guru in this area, but since no-one else has replied to your post I thought I would at least comment from the perspective of a long time UNIX admin.  If you have already explored iotop and fs_usage, then it seems to me that you are on the right track.  Perhaps your disk is just more noisy than you expect.  If you can't find it using these low level commands, maybe there is nothing to find?
As far as background disk IO is concerned, Time Machine is an obvious choice, but you seem to be talking about your internal disk, so presumably that's not it.
Is your disk very full?  I have had issues with fragmentation when I filled my disk too much, and perhaps your issue could be related to that.  The general recommendation is that you need at least 10% of your disk free, although more free space is always better.
One other suggestion I can offer is that you may find lsof helpful, in that it may identify a file being written to which could help in tracking down disk IO.  I've had good experiences with an app called "Rubbernet" that uses lsof to produce a graphical display of network traffic - perhaps running that would identify processes transferring data that are causing the disk IO?
I'm also assuming you're not running any type of BitTorrent client, as this could explain background disk IO too of course.
Sorry I couldn't offer anything more specific.  I hope some of those ideas help you.

  • Is there any REST API to get all the Site and site Collections from Sharepoint Online

    Hi,
I have one SharePoint Online tenant. We are using REST API to integrate SharePoint to our internal System.
For my use case I need to get all the SharePoint sites ans Sitecollections. From each SiteCollection I need all the subsites under this.
I have used below REST Query
    http://<Base site url>/_api/web
This doesn't give me all the Site collections
Could any one please give me some way to get all the Site collections and sites from my sharepoint tenant through REST API.
    Thanks,

    Hi Abhiram,
There seems no such endpoint in SharePoint REST API can retrieve a list of site collections in a SharePoint Online tenant:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj860569.aspx#Reference
If Client Object Model can be an option for you, you can use Tenant object to achieve what you want:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/24050.perform-basic-admin-operations-using-csom-in-sharepoint-online.aspx#Scenario_3_Fetch_All_Site_Collections
Anyway, I would suggest you submit a feedback to the Office Developer Platform if there any expectation about the future version of REST API of Office 365 SharePoint
    Online:
    http://officespdev.uservoice.com/
    It
is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products. What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft
Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.

  • Any System Command to get/know the Iexplore.exe path ???

    Hi,
I want to know, where is the Iexplore.exe file in my system.
Is there any System command to know the IE .exe path
    like System.getProperty("os.name") ??
or manually we need to check all files ?
    Thanks for Advance.
    - k seelam

I think there is no 'system command' provided in Java or Win32 APIs.
But if you need it, use some of third-party Java class libraries that can handle (read or write) Windows Registry and check some of the related keys that contain informations you want.
('HKCR\htmlfile\shell\open\command' key contains the current default html browser for example. You'd better to refer MSDN to find out more.)
