  • Is it possible to connect to a Power Macintosh 8100/100 running v7.5.5 from a current PC via AppleTalk? If not is there any software that will allow me to?

The question says it all. We are trying to add an old Power Macintosh 8100/100 v7.5.5 to our network. We tried using PC-MACLAN but it requires OS X.  Is there any way to get around this or is there any software available add this to our network?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
If you wish to merely transfer files, one idea could be to have one ftp or web server on each machine, and then use appropriate clients (ftp programs or web browsers).
TCP/IP software is available under System 7.5.5. The 8100/100 can use standard RJ-45 Ethernet cabling via a suitable adapter for AAUI-15 (such as the Apple Ethernet Twisted-Pair Transceiver M0437).
For the Mac, the now free program NetPresenz could perhaps be of interest as a server solution.

  • Is there an app that will allow hyperlinked videos in PDF or HTML to be played?

I have a file that I built in excel that has hyperlinks to videos and pictures, I saved this file as HTML and PDF but as of yet can not find an app or way for the videos that are hyperlinked to play. I can get the pictures to work but not video. Any one know how I can get this to work?

Not that I know of, and having seen a picture of it

Doesn't look all that great, you lose so much of the picture quality just to see a desktop?
Better to have a 1/8 th page window floating on top of other windows instead.

  • Is there HP software that will allow an Officejet 6500 E710n-z to work under OS X 10.9 Mavericks?

My Macbook's currently running OS X 10.8.5 Mtn. Lion.  I've been hesitant to upgrade to Mavericks for fear of what it might break.  I just saw the
posting by HP employee Vanricker, "Update - HP Scan application - Grayscale fix - OS X 10.9 Mavericks", at http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-Printing-and-Scanning/Update-HP-Scan-application-Grayscale-fix-OS-X... But it doesn't list the Officejet 6500 E710n-z.  It does, however, say it applies to the Officejet 6600 and 6700.  I'd have posted my question as a reply to that posting, but in the 8 months since that was posted, there have been 10 requests for further help that were posted as replies, and not a single one of them was answered.  So instead I'm submitting this as a brand new post in the hope that somebody knowledgeable at HP will notice my question.
Can the Officejet 6500 E710n-z work with OS X Mavericks?  If so, do I need to download new software from HP?  If yes, what's the URL for that software?

Yup, it will work with Mavericks.  Here is how I recommend you proceed:
Uninstall the existing HP software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Restart your Mac.
    Now reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Do not install specific HP software for your printer.  Scan from the printer using the Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Click once on the scanner on the left side, then click on Show Details along the bottom. Along the right side you will see LOTS of options for scanning and saving.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Is there any software that will delete video after I crop in iMovie

Ok, I've spent days reading posts and googling for answers. I'm ready to spend $$ if I need to. We're all aware of how iMovie won't let us delete unwanted video. I'm trying to fix a wedding video some hack did in SVHS. I got it from DVD to Video_TS to DV using MPEG Streamline and imported the video clips to iMovie. (By "video clips", I am mean the DV files.)
There are 7 DV files from a 69-minute video. I am creating tons of smaller "clips" from these DV files - like 5 to 15-second clips - because I want to use transitions in between them.
My understanding of what's happening in iMovie as I do this is as follows:
    - Let's say I begin with the first DV file that is 1.9 GB, about 10 minutes long.
    - I create a 10-second clip from that by (a) selecting my start and end points, (b) clicking Edit>copy, (c) clicking on the clip pane, (d) clicking Edit>paste.
    - Now I have a new 10-second clip.
    - But! I also have 1.9 GB of unused video behind that clip, right?
    - I repeat the process maybe 30 or 40 more times until I've edited the original 10-minute DV file (clip) and what do I have?
    - Do I have 40 10-second clips each with 1.9 GB of unwanted video behind it??
As I said, with 7 DV files at 1.9 GB each that need to be sliced into multiple clips for transition effects, etc, this will shut down my MB quick. I've only done this with 3 DV files so far and I have 12 GB of HD space left. I will obviously not be able to finish the project this way. What a disaster!
So here's the million dollar question -- Is there ANY 3rd party software that will allow me to slice these DV files into small clips and permanently delete the unused video?
I don't care if I use something that "replaces" iMovie or something that works with iMovie. Like I said, I'm ready to spend the money to save the time, disk space, and aggravation. Note I worked in video production (many) years ago so I'm not afraid of something "technical" (editing concepts aren't new to me). However, I'm far from being an expert on what's out there these days.
I should also note that the original wedding video (DVD) did not have any chapters or anything of the sort. The ONLY way I can edit this is to import the entire file as it was converted to DV. It's not like I can import only the video I want to use. I hope that makes sense. I do not have access to the source video either - only this pathetic DVD he calls a wedding video.
Thanks in advance so much for any help. I never would've gotten this far without all the posts!

Not to worry. When we Copy and Paste within a project, iMovie HD creates a new clip thumbnail for the Timeline/Clips pane, then simply adds a new pointer to the source video. The source material is not duplicated.
When you Copy a clip and Paste a clip to a DIFFERENT project then Yes, the clip's entire source video file is duplicated. (When Copying between projects, be sure to Copy and Paste all the clips together so iMovie duplicates the source files just one time.)
Next time, you might consider setting your iMovie 6 preferences to limit the length of imported clips to 3 minutes — or whatever duration you want. Then each imported clip will have its own source file. When you discard an entire clip its file will be discarded too, shrinking the size of the project.
If you have no need to preserve the clips as clips you could export the project to a Full Quality movie that you import to a new project. Everything will arrive as a single clip, which may be okay here. Then discard your old project. The project will be smaller, containing just the stuff on the Timeline.
If the Timeline contains most of the source material — just split into small clips — there may not be a lot of "extra" material in the project. To get an estimate of how large the Timeline really is, open the "Timeline Movie.mov" that's inside the Cache folder of the project in QuickTime Player. QT Player's Show Movie Info window will show the size of the material it represents.

I can't open RAW files from new Sony Alpha a6000 camera in PSE 11 camera raw editor. Is there an update that will allow me to do this or do I need to always use DNG convertor?

You would need to update to PSE 12, or just keep using the DNG converter. Your camera requires ACR 8.4, which isn't compatible with PSE 11. It's also not compatible with PSE 12 if you are running Vista or XP.

There are many ways and applications that you can use to build a web site. Which will be best for you will depend on the site you want to build and your level of expertise. Many experienced web developers just use a text editor, often one with specialized features for web programming (BBEdit, for example), but there are programs that can offer additional help, up to and including "drag and drop". Without knowing more about your needs, it's difficult to offer specific advice, but here are some possibilities:
iWeb - came with your Mac. Easy to build but rather limiting in what you can do.
RapidWeaver - more flexible and capable than iWeb but harder to use; sort of an "inbetweener" application
Dreamweaver - powerful but expensive and a steep learning curve
There are of course a number of other options. If you can provide more detail about what you wish to build and your level of experience, someone can probably make more targeted recommendations.
    Regards.

  • Is there an adaptor or interface that will allow me to connect a thunderbolt device to my late 2011 Mac Pro Firewire 800 port?

Is there an adaptor or interface that will allow me to connect a thunderbolt device to my late 2011 Mac Pro Firewire 800 port?

    lllaass is correct.
To use ThunderBolt devices, a computer must have left the factory with a ThunderBolt port.
There are no known work-arounds, and there are not likely to be any because Intel controls the chips and is not interested in anything less than the full [including Video features] implementation.

  • Is there a converter that will allow earlier versions of Audition to open sesx files?

Is there a converter that will allow earlier versions of Audition to open sesx files?

SteveG and ryclark have this covered.
The only thing I would add is that if you really must convert from CS5 to AA3 then use AATranslator to convert to an AA3 xml.
No fx will be converted but you will get the best possible conversion.
Again this is only if you must and obviously the earlier in the project (before applying fx) the better.
FWIW you would only need the $59 version but certainly it is good advice to keep multiple AA versions on your PC

For a Mac?  Sure. If you have iMovie, Final Cut Express, or Final Cut Pro you can capture your HDV or DV clips with any of these apps.

  • I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook.  Is there Apple software that will work on the notebook allowing me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents that I've placed in Dropbox?

I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook.  Anyone know if there is Apple software that will work on the Toshiba that will allow me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents when I access them in Dropbox?
Maybe I should just always export from Pages into Word  (and likewise for the other types) before I upload to Dropbox?  I hope not!!

If you don't want to export files and consider the Microsoft formats to be your basic working format, then you need to consider either using MsOffice for Mac or LibreOffice instead of the iWork suite.
You could always run a virtualised OSX on the Toshiba, but I don't think Apple will appreciate me telling you how to do that.
