Is there a SUN Solaris ldapsearch utility supporting paged results?

Hellos..
We have Sun DS 5.2p4 on our servers.
I am using the ldapsearch executable which came with this install to read Users off an Active Directory.
BUT! Now the AD user base has grown beyond 1000 and I am getting Sizelimit exceeded errors.
I dont see any switches to allow me to set the client to read successive pages to get ALL results from AD.
Can anyone point me towards a Solaris 9 executable ldapsearch which supports paging!
I would be most grateful.
Thankyou.
GF

Ok babe...
There are 2 pieces that sort of fit together... the LDAP server and the LDAP client
I am painfully aware that the SUN Directory SERVER doesnt support paging.. and that the LDAP CLIENT provided by SUN named ldapsearch doesnt seem to have any switches or flags that allows it to get data as a series of 'pages' from LDAP SERVERS that actually DO support paging.
One of the LDAP SERVERS that DO support paged results is Active Directory.
My question is ... has anyone a Solaris LDAP CLIENT (I dont care what its called but ldapsearch is a good name) which allows paged results to be received from an Active Directory?
Has anyone experience of the openLDAP client does this beast support paging?

I know we dont get support from oracle. But, you initially mentioned that you couldn't find the required information on metalink, therefore I provided that information, which I thought you were looking for.
Is anybody still using this combination ? Does it work ? yes, we are using it and it has been working fine for over 4 years...of course we patched it to the latest - 9.2.0.8 to be on the supported release/patch.

The freely available 'for learning and prototyping' downloads (from the site you mention) are NOT updated to a new patch level. (If necessary, they may be revised to fix bugs that stop them for being installed, but they keep the same point level.)
If a version of the OS is released after the s/w has been made available, and there are problems installing or using that combination, Oracle MAY decide to fix, apply patch set and and make available the s/w for that specific OS.

  • Solaris 10 & Hardware Support

I understand that Linux depends on the communities support to develop drivers for hardware that isn't supported by the manufacturer. How does Solaris stand with support from manufactures, and support from Sun or popular manufactures. I'd like to install Solaris 10 on my x86 desktop, but if it can't support my nForce video chip then there isn't much of a question that I would stick with Linux.
Is it possible, specifically for an nForce video chip, to get just video that doesn't necessarily take advantage of graphic acceleration?
Since nVidia is partnered with Sun to bring some of their high-end cards to Solaris, should we expect to see some of their other hardware supported also?
I'm curious about other hardware as well, such as Ethernet cards, or sound cards. Is it really feasable to run Solaris on a desktop PC, or does it need to be dedicated Solaris machine that was built from the ground up with support in mind because supported hardware is so scarce?

The answer isn't easy to find, because the breadth of the
    problem is wide.
    As I write, I'm on an Athlon-64 running a NVidia nForce3
250 Gb chipset. Does it work? Yes. Does everything work?
No. There are some parts of the chipset which don't have
Solaris drivers yet. Unfortunately, NVidia also keeps their
driver source close and even for Linux they don't release
the source code. In my case, neither the network nor audio
drivers are available. It may be difficult to get the Solaris drivers
ported unless NVidia does the work. AFAICT, that is not
part of the Sun/NVidia announcement, though I'd be happy
    to be proved wrong.
A number of sound cards do have drivers. On this machine,
the NVidia audio driver is not recognized, but I have an iMic
USB audio dongle that seems to work well.
For Ethernet, I have an old Rhine-based card (D-Link). A
driver for this, including the needed 64-bit amd64 driver :-),
    is a available from
    http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/
Some other vendors offer Solaris drivers directly, so you'll
find some have more support than others.

    Thansk,

The SUNWfoo and SUNWfoox packages were generally merged for Solaris 10 SPARC packages. The foox would represent 64-bit binaries/libraries and may be left out of a 32-bit system install.
Since Solaris 10 only runs a 64-bit kernel on SPARC, there's no reason to supply both packages and they were merged.
For x86, 32-bit kernel mode is still supported, and the package separation exists.

  • Oracle in Sun Solaris as opposed to HP

I have a question regarding a system we will have. It is being built on Oracle 9i in Sun Solaris environment. My question would be if someone suggests that to take this system and implement in a HP environment, will there be any problem?
Is there any whitepaper on applications developed for one environment being implemented in a different hardware platform? What are the risks factors and what can go wrong?
We have lots of HP machines in our organization and so the question had recently popped up in people's mind about why would we want to buy Sun hardware and have Solaris OS if we can have Oracle in the HP box? The vendor did not test to see if the application would work in a HP environment. But I would be interested to know if anyone ever experienced such scenarios or Oracle had done analysis of such cases. Appreciate any answers.

The ease of migrating to a different hardware platform will depend on the tools used to build the application.
In one of our systems, the server side programs are all written entirely in C. We have moved this application from Data General to HP to IBM. In each case, we installed Oracle, created a new database, exported the database from the old server and imported onto the new server. We then copied all of the application source onto the new box and re-compiled. Aside from a few very minor differences in rounding behaviour in the C libraries, everyting worked perfectly.
On the other hand, we have another application where the server-side code is all written in a dialect of MUMPS, with an emulator program running on top of the OS. This one can never be moved to new hardware.
Generally speaking, if the server-side code is written in a standard language, or if there is no server-side code, just a database, then the application should run just fine on any hardware supported by Oracle.

  • 9iAS for Sun Solaris Intel?

Will 9iAS be available for Sun Solaris Intel?
    Thanks,
    Shane

    Shane,
Due to bandwidth/space limitations, there are no plans at this time to put the Intel Solaris version of 9iAS onto OTN.
That said, the Intel Solaris version of 9i AS will be available through the following channels:
    1) Ordering directly from the oracle store at store.oracle.com, or via your local Oracle representative.
    2) If you have a previous version of iAS for intel solaris (with a support contract), you could request an upgrade via Oracle Worldwide support, and they will send you the software.

  • Sun Solaris with Oracle 8i &java 1.3

i am going to work on Sun solaris with Oracle 8i
    in Java platform
is there any major issue to this combination
pls , help me out to -> [email protected]
    Thanks in advance

I've been able to get Apache_1.3.(9|11|12)+PHP-(3.0.1[45]|4.0b4pl1)+Oracle-8.1.5.0.2 to work (OCI8 API calls) but with much difficulty.
Compiling was pretty straightforward. I used APXS to load the PHP module. However, when I start Apache with the PHP modules loaded and added, Apache would die (no hints, etc.) What I did was start Apache without PHP loaded, reconfigure in PHP once Apache started and THEN restart apache. This works for me. Kinda tedious, though. And the time when Apache is running without support for PHP would allow anyone to see my PHP code with my database password.
(Incidentally, how should I configure Apache so it doesn't serve files which end in .php[3] unless it was through the PHP module?)
I've emailed the Apache OCI8 module developers about it (Stig and Thies) so I hope it'll be resolved soon.

  • How to install Sun solaries 9 or 10.

    Hi,
I am trying to install Sun solaries 9 or 10.over AMD 64.
Please guide me to install sun on AMD.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Chandan.

The very first thing you should do is go over the HCL or Hardware Compatability List. The most likely problems you will run into are the show stoppers, first and most likely will be the network card, if you have an onboard card that is part of the mainboard find out what kind it is and then check the HCL, if it is not there then pickup a PCI network card that is on the HCL list. Second will be the video, again find out with the HCL, worst case is you will get it installed and the X server won't work right. Again you may end up picking up an AGP or PCI video card that is supported.
As far as installing it's just a matter of booting of the installer CD and following the directions, take all the defaults first then do a bit of research on drive slicing and install it a second time.
I have not had good luck with the DVD's no matter whether they are going on a Intel, AMD or a SUN platform.

  • What versions of Solaris should we support?

What versions of Solaris are officially supported by Sun? I notice that there are patches available for older versions but the compiler tools are not supported on these platforms.
We would like to drop support for 2.6 and possibly 7 but only if Sun no longer supports these versions.

Well, if you are asking what supported Solaris OS that compiler tools will run on, here is the link:
    http://developers.sun.com/tools/cc/support/support_matrix.html
However, if you are asking what versions of Solaris Sun support, you will need to ask the marketing or try 'Solaris OS' on http://forum.sun.com/

  • Sun ld comdat group support

While this may be a little OT, given that it discusses gcc/binutils, the underlying topic is the solaris linker in /usr/ccs/bin/ld, and this seemed like the most likely forum for linker expertise.
The following discussion concludes that the sun linker does not support COMDAT groups adequetly to build gcc 4 with the gnu assembler and the sun linker (as is recommmended by the gcc folks, and as is done by sun for /usr/sfw/bin/gcc in solaris 10)
    http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc/2005-04/msg01332.html
But the documentation for the linker seems to suggest otherwise:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-1983/6mhm6r4fj?a=view#chapter7-11598
In the most recent binutils ld testsuite, there is a test for comdat support:
    -------- group1a.s ---------
    .section .text,"axG",%progbits,foo_group,comdat
    .weak foo
    foo:
    .word 0
    -------- group1b.s ---------
    .section .text,"axG",%progbits,foo_group,comdat
    .global foo
    .global bar
    foo:
    .word 0
    bar:
Run these through the gnu assembler:
    /usr/local/binutils-2.16.1/bin/as --gdwarf2 group1a.s -o group1a.o
    /usr/local/binutils-2.16.1/bin/as --gdwarf2 group1b.s -o group1b.o
And then link them, once with the sun linker, and once with the gnu linker:
    /usr/local/binutils-2.16.1/bin/ld group1a.o group1b.o -o linked.gnu
    /usr/ccs/bin/ld group1a.o group1b.o -o linked.sun
Now, if we look at foo and bar in the generated images
    elfdump -s -N .symtab linked.gnu | egrep "foo|bar"
    [8] 0x08048074 0x00000000 NOTY WEAK D 0 .text foo
    [11] 0x00000000 0x00000000 NOTY GLOB D 0 UNDEF bar
    elfdump -s -N .symtab linked.sun | egrep "foo|bar"
    [15] 0x080501ef 0x00000000 NOTY GLOB D 0 .text bar
    [21] 0x080501ed 0x00000000 NOTY GLOB D 0 .text foo
we can see that the gnu linker generated foo as a weak symbol, and left bar undefined, while the sun linker emitted foo as a global, and defined bar.
ok. so now try without the comdat flags:
    ----- nogroup1a.s -----
    .section .text,"ax",%progbits
    .weak foo
    foo:
    .word 0
    ----- nogroup1b.s -----
    .section .text,"ax",%progbits
    .global foo
    .global bar
    foo:
    .word 0
    bar:
and assemble and link as above. Now, if we look at the output from elfdump:
    elfdump -s -N .symtab nogroup.linked.sun | egrep "foo|bar"
    [15] 0x080501f2 0x00000000 NOTY GLOB D 0 .text bar
    [21] 0x080501f0 0x00000000 NOTY GLOB D 0 .text foo
    elfdump -s -N .symtab nogroup.linked.gnu | egrep "foo|bar"
    [8] 0x08048078 0x00000000 NOTY GLOB D 0 .text foo
    [11] 0x0804807a 0x00000000 NOTY GLOB D 0 .text bar
Now, we get identical results for foo and bar with the two linkers. Even more interesting is that for the sun linker, the results did not change when we removed the comdat flags. It is as if the sun linker happily absorbs and then ignores the fact that the sections are marked as COMDAT. So what is going on here? Does the sun linker really support COMDAT? Have I misinterpreted something? Which linker is right, according to the ELF spec?
Sorry for the long post, any insight would be appreciated.

Ok. That is a reasonable, if not very helpful answer.
In the meantime, here is a simpler example that shows the problem a little more clearly:
    cat foobar.s.section .text,"axG",%progbits,foo_group,comdat
    .global foo
    foo:
    .word 0
    .section .text,"ax",%progbits
    .global bar
    bar:
    .word 0
    .section .text,"ax",%progbits
    .global baz
    baz:
    .word 0
Now, assemble this twice into two different object files:
    /usr/local/binutils-2.16.1/bin/as gdwarf2 foobar.s -o foobar2.o /usr/local//binutils-2.16.1/bin/as gdwarf2 foobar.s -o foobar1.o
If we link these two object files together, we should get two errors about undefined symbols: one for bar, and one for baz. foo should be ok because its COMDAT.
    So:
    /usr/local/binutils-2.16.1/bin/ld -shared foobar1.o foobar2.o foobar2.o: In function `bar':
    : multiple definition of `bar'
    foobar1.o:: first defined here
    foobar2.o: In function `baz':
    : multiple definition of `baz'
    foobar1.o:: first defined here
Which is what we expect. But /usr/ccs/bin/ld gives:
    /usr/ccs/bin/ld -G foobar1.o foobar2.o
ld: fatal: symbol `foo' is multiply-defined:
    (file foobar1.o type=NOTY; file foobar2.o type=NOTY);
ld: fatal: symbol `bar' is multiply-defined:
    (file foobar1.o type=NOTY; file foobar2.o type=NOTY);
ld: fatal: symbol `baz' is multiply-defined:
    (file foobar1.o type=NOTY; file foobar2.o type=NOTY);
ld: fatal: File processing errors. No output written to a.out
    which seems incorrect to me.

Our production database is on Sun/Solaris 10 (SunOS odin 5.10 Generic_127127-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise) with oracle 10.1.0 . It is about 1TB in size. We have also created our MOCK and DEVELOPMENT databases from the Production database. To save disk space, we created these databases as ZFS Snapshots/ZFS Clones at the OS level and are using less than 10GB each being clones as on now. Now I want to upgrade the production database from oracle 10.1 to 11.2 but I don't want to upgrade the MOCK and DEVELOPMENT databases for the time being and want them to continue to run as clones on 10.1. After upgrade, Prod will run from 11g oracle tree one one machine and MOCK/DEVL on 10g tree on another machine. Will the upgrade of Production from 10.1 to 11.2 INVALIDATE the cloned MOCK and DEVELOPMENT databases?? There might be data types/features in 11g which do not exist in 10g.

    Hi,
The mentioned links in the post is not working.
I would suggest u to raise an Official S.R. with http://support.oracle.com prior upgrading your database.
Also you can try this out with 10g db installation on TEST machine and create databases as ZFS Snapshots/ZFS Clones at the OS level for MOCK. Then upgrade the 10g database and test it.

  • DO I need SFRAC for Oracle 10g RAC  on Sun Solaris

My platform is SUN Solaris 10 64 bit on v490 server. On the backend side, we are using EMC CX500 storage. We will use Veritas File system and Veritas CFS.
I would like to ask, Do I must need SFRAC to configure Oracle 10g RAC or Can I just use only Oracle CRS. I do not want to use ASM.
    Please advise
    Thanks,
    Sam..

The VCFS usually requires a Veritas Cluster, thus you would have to use the product combination that is bundled as SFRAC as mentioned before. Metalink in addition says:
10      10gR2 64-bit      Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC      5.0      Certified
There is one exception to this rule: Linux.
Veritas and Oracle support a standalone version of the Veritas Cluster Files System (and only this component) on Linux. This does not hold true for Solaris.
Concluding, if you want to use the VCFS you would need to get a VCS, which then basically means using SFRAC.
However, in this case, as mentioned before, you would not need ASM.
