Is there a system preference menu somewhere that is blocks exporting large files?

Why won't iphoto 8 allow me to share large files?  Are there system preferences set that I can't find?
I am trying to burn a DVD, and don't want to downgrade the image quality.  It is set to moderate, and the place of choice is greyed out.
Thanks!

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some of the large photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
To get the original large photos out of your current library Command (right) - click  on a thumbnail and select Show Original File from the Contextual menu.
You'll be taken to the original file in the Finder  so you can COPY it to the Desktop to use in the test library.

my mac os is 10.6.8 and when I try to upgrade, says I have most up to date software.
You do. 10.6.8 is the latest update to 10.6.
10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion are paid upgrades. Buy 10.8 in the Mac App Store if your Mac is compatible by searching for "Mountain Lion." If not, call Apple to order 10.7 Lion after making sure your Mac meets the requirements.

  • System Preferences menu have not change with the update

I just updated from 10.6.6 to 10.8.4 tonight and the first thing I noticed is the reversed scrolling (which is a horrid idea in my opinion for a laptop).  I went to youtube and watched several videos showing me how to to my system preferences -> Track Pad -> Scrolling and Zooming tab -> Unselect natural Scrolling.
However, when I go to my system preferences -> Track Pad I only have one tab and it is the exact same as my 10.6.6 system preference menu and not the new one that everyone shows on the youtube videos.
How can I fix my system preferences to be updated and how can I go back to normal scrolling?  Old habits are hard to die after 5-6 years on my laptop doing it the normal way...

Nevermind.  I found a check box that is labeled "When using gestures to scroll or navigate, move content in the direction of finger movement."  The box was found above the tracking speed and double click speed.
I am still curious on why I do not have the three tab options that everyone has.

You need 10.7.5 or later for iCloud.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion or Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion

To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

Of course not.  Number blocking must be done by your wireless provider.

  • System preferences have icons that can't be removed?

My system preferences are showing some generic icons that not only can't be removed, but also don't work. Some of them have replaced the "real" Icons for example "Security". How do I solve this problem? See attached screen shot.

Look in the following two directories:
~/Library/PreferencePanes    (~ is your home directory)
    /Library/PreferencePanes
See if there's anything in there looking like com.apple.security (or whatever that name is on the first line of your preference icons).  Or for that matter anytuing with the name "security" in it.
All the stuff above the section marked Other should be coming from /System/Library/PreferencePanes.  For exmaple in here you would see Security.prefPane which is the one for Security.

  • System preferences menu is hidden

  • System Preferences menu broken - can't swap wallpaper!  - Help!!

So my friend and I played a trick on an intern here at work who just got a new MBP. We swapped his background out for a vista one - real simple, right.
Well, he got back and had a good chuckle about it UNTIL - the system preferences panel crashed after he tried to switch it back!
So here is the only symptom:
    Open system preferences
    Click "backgrounds and screensaver"
    window opens, looks ok
window closes and error screen pops up saying "system prefrences unexpectedly closed"
HELP! he is NOT HAPPY now!

Sounds like you'll have to hunt around to fix the problem you caused. The easiest is to download and install the 10.5.4 COMBO update. If that doesn't work, create another admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem's gone. Report back.

  • My icloud won't allow me to shut my system preference menu and is giving me an error message frostycup=1, Do I have a virus?!?

I really need HELP!!!....I'm trying to shut down my computer and i have icloud open in system preferences and it's giving me an error message frostycup=1 which won't let me shut down my computer (it doesn't allow it) Is this a virus? and can I deal with it or should I bring it in to apple??!?!

You might try force quitting system preferences.  Press Option Command Escape, click on System Preferences in the pop-up, then click Force Quit.  Then restart your Mac and see if the problem occurs again.  If not, I wouldn't worry about it.  I've only heard of this in relation to the iTunes store; it might be a glitch and you'll never see it again.

  • Sounds silly, but I can't turn on the sound anymore. The slider won't budge and in system preferences it looks that it is muted, and i can't 'unmute' it, despite having administrator privileges. Any ideas? Tat

It sounds stupid, but yesterday I turned off the sound of my iMac, today (after the latest upgrade), I can neither move the slider, nor turn mute off in the system preferences, even so I have administrator privileges. Any ideas?

    Sorry it didn't work...
If the update you did yesterday was to 10 6 8 and you did it via Software Update, perhaps the Combo Update would be the way to go...

i cant't verify my icloud account, never received verification email, i did requested it from system preference menu

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Put in a request for another verification e-mail to be sent to you.
Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account.
Also check your Mail rules and filtering, the verification mail may be going to a junk folder or even being deleted altogether. You may also wish to contact your mail provider to see if their spam filters are removing the email before it gets to you.

  • Really confused here. I have somehow created both a managed account and an administrator account. The admin acct is now highlighted in system preferences. We are now blocked from using our computer because parental controls keeps popping up.

In attempting to add a music lesson program for my daughters band lessons we have messed up our computer. I now have both a managed account and an administrator account (both in my name).  It is using the managed account now and not letting use the Internet because parental controls keep popping up. I would like to delete the managed account and get back to the admin account but I have no idea what my login is for the admin account. We have never had to use it before this problem started and what we thought it was when we set it up does not work. Any ideas?

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know that account password, the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but you won't be able to unlock the Keychain. If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it. You’ll need to reset your keychain in the preferences of the Keychain Access application.
