Is There a Tag to Identify iTunes Plus Tracks?

Does anyone know of a tag that can identify iTunes Plus tracks in your library? I'd like to do a backup of them but can't readily identify them. I rip my CDs at 256K so by bit rate is not an option with my rather large library. The DRM tracks are fairly easy in that they are 128K but I can't nail down the iTunes Plus tracks. Thank you if you have any advise.

Can I press my great luck with this thread and ask if there is a way to create a smart playlist with the iTunes DRM (128K Bit Rate) tracks? Your Kind=Purchased worked brilliantly for the iTunes Plus tracks. I'd love to be able to replicate it for a DRM version of my iTunes tracks. Although I'm still hopeful that I'll be able to upgrade these all to the iTunes Plus files in the future. Thanks for any assistance that you can offer.

  • ITune Plus tracks not showing up

It seems to me that in the past, if I logged into my account settings in the iTunes store, there was an area where I could select "always show iTunes Plus" or something like that. I no longer see that as an option.
This concerns me, because, for example, if I do a normal iTunes store search for "Cannanes", I see a number of tracks available for purchase, but none are available as iTunes Plus...however, if I do a "Power Search" from Quick links in the iTunes Store menus, and make sure I select "Search iTunes Plus", I see that there are 13 tracks available in this format that were previously not shown!
What gives? Has the preference for this option changed? Is there a bug in iTunes or the iTunes store? Or is it that Apple would really prefer to not sell the iTunes Plus format, given the higher bandwidth cost and the fact that these tracks now cost the same as DRM'd songs?

It's no longer an option since iTunes Plus tracks are the same price as the other tracks, so there's no need to turn iTunes Plus on and off. There are indeed anomalies in the display of Plus tracks, so assuming you're using the latest version of iTunes, it's probably an ongoing glitch in the iTunes Store and not anything on your end.

  • Why isn't Apple acknowledging HUGE delays downloading iTunes Plus tracks?

After dozens of posts regarding these problems, still not a word from Apple, here on on the iTunes site.
And of course no fix yet.

Apple is making a bad situation worse by neither limiting demand (sales side) nor increasing supply (more servers).
First and foremost, They just cannot shut down and limit purchases, it doesn't work good of a solution. They just can't get more servers either. You don't just buy a server and hop that it solves the problem seconds after you hook it up.
And it's not a line, with first to buy being first to get downloads -- it's a mob scene as more and more people are trying to download.
A mob scene entering a pipe, thats restricted by bandwidth.
Based on my experience, I think things are getting worse -- of the 32 tracks I purchased, I got 4 in the first 24 hours and have gotten none since.
Plus tracks have only been available for less than 2 days. There are millions of iTunes customers and many of them are using a service that was highly anticipated and demanded. Its like Christmas's with people getting new ipods.
This was my first transaction with the iTunes Store, and I must say I am horrified by how poorly Apple is handling this situation. Do you complain when Best Buy or other retailers are mobbed with people after thanksgiving and after Christmas???

  • Itunes Plus tracks on Xbox 360

I assumed (wrongly I guess) that as the DRM had been removed from the Itunes + tracks that they would play on my xbox360?
Is this supposed to be the case

It's not a matter of DRM (iTunes Plus is DRM-free,you did not assume wrongly) -- it's whether or not AAC files will play on your 360. To my knowledge, they do not play unless you've downloaded some sort of AAC codec to your 360. I am not sure where to download it -- but I am pretty sure it's free.

  • What does it mean when upgrading to iTunes Plus?

    Ok ~
So was about to upgrade to iTunes Plus, and when I click it I find this:
    106 Total Songs
    14 Songs
    5 Albums
And then I'm given a price. I'm not sure what the break down is, or what 106, 14 are in comparison to one another. And I thought I had purchased more than 5 full albums, but whatever there. Now I have about 300 total songs listed in music I have purchased, so why only 106? I thought that more than 80% was in Plus as of last October? Could it be that a majority of my songs are not Plus yet?
Hopefully someone can make heads and tails out of what this means.
    Thanks,
    Chaz

In my experience...not everything has been upgraded to iTunes Plus...yet. I downloaded a huge number of upgrades a few weeks ago and now it seems like every three or four days when I connect to the iTunes store I'm alerted about more iTunes Plus upgrades available.
My advice...after you accept and install this upgrade, sort your library by "kind" to see how many more "protected aac" tracks you still have listed.
On Edit: iTunes Plus tracks will show up in your library as "purchased aac".

  • ITunes Plus FAQs doesn't make sense: Needs a tutorial and clear instruction

    Hi,
My wife and I have spent over an hour trying to "simply" purchase anything in iTunes plus and the FAQ's don't help. I haven't a clue how to do it, or would I really want to given the the Question (if I'm reading it right) "Can I still buy music encoded at 128kbps with DRM?" Answer: No.
If I won't be able to buy the usual iTunes music available at 128kbps that makes up the majority of iTunes music purchases (hardly anything i want is available in itunes plus) why would I want to cut myself from buying the larger available music source? I must have misunderstood this, but as we can't seem to find a way to upgrade yet, prices still reflect the itunes music, (no link to a plus version or a plus price) iTunes haven't exactly made upgrading songs transparent. I think they need to post a tutorial to show the process.
When I click on the itunes plus I'm presented with an album and 3 songs from my own library (not my wife's even though we were in that when we clicked on the upgrade) I guess I can upgrade those if I take up the special offer. But no information beyond that. No info on what that will do to her library, my library, future purchases not available in iTunes plus, etc.
Concerns about upgrading a library of a few hundred songs and being billed for all that is putting me off taking up the offer at the moment.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Tracks are available only in two formats: the "normal" format of 128 Kbps AAC with copy protection which makes up the bulk of the content on the iTunes Store, and iTunes Plus tracks (currently offered only on music from EMI and from a few independent labels) which are 256 Kbps AAC without copy protection. As of several months ago, the price for Plus and non-Plus tracks is identical and you don't have a choice of which you select; if a track is iTunes Plus, it will not be offered in the lower-rate copy-protected format (there's no reason why anyone with sense would not want their tracks as iTunes Plus).
So when you go to buy a track, if it's iTunes Plus, that's the way you'll purchase it and the only format in which that track will be available. You'll be able to tell by the "+" symbol next to the price.
As to upgrading, when you click on the iTunes Plus link and then Upgrade, the iTunes Store will then show any tracks you have purchased - and it's by the iTunes Store account you are logged into (it's based on the account's Purchase History), not the library currently in use that governs what upgrade options are shown - that are eligible for upgrade to Plus. Depending on what label released the tracks you bought, there might be many eligible for upgrade or only a few (or none). When you upgrade (and you have to upgrade all the tracks at once; you can't pick and choose), iTunes will give you the option of just replacing and deleting the old tracks, or replacing them and keeping them. If you choose the latter, iTunes will move the old versions to a separate folder.

  • ITunes Plus - not apparent

Is there a way to have iTunes Plus show up on any track where that is an option? This is NOT the case when browsing the store.
    For Example:
goto the normal search box and type in "BT kaia". The only song that shows up does not have a + sign. However when I go to buy it, its clearly available as a + track. In addition if I do a Power Search and look for "BT kaia" and check the box "iTunes Plus", viola, there is the Plus sign.
I suspect there are many songs I would buy from them, if only I knew they were iTunes plus. I like the front page for browsing, but i never see plus tracks, this is part of the reason why it seems.

If I search with iTunes Plus checked, it works. However if I browse there is no indication. Browsing is a major part of shopping, which is the whole reason for a storefront and "Top" lists. This one of the advantages of iTunes store over P2P, a great storefront, if I want to search randomly I can do that on the P2P networks and get better quality (VBR) for a lower price.
    Thanks for the reply!

  • How do I remove the duplicates that appeared after upgrading to iTunes Plus

I upgraded some of my music to the itunes plus (better quality?) and chose to send the old files to the recycle bin. All went well. The new files were added in itunes and there were no duplicates. Later we synced an ipod touch and when asked if we wanted to transfer purchases from the itouch before syncing my son responded yes. This created duplicates of the songs. The problem is ..... How do I tell which is the upgraded song so I can delete the old version?

There are various ways of doing it.
If you go to View>>Options and ensure that "Kind" is checked, old tracks will usually say "Protected AAC..." whereas the iTunes Plus tracks as shown as "Purchased AAC".
You can use this information in a smart play list to get all the tracks you don't want together for easy deletion.
You can also Look at Get info>>Summary tab.
Oldtracks will generally have 128 bit rate and an M4p file extension. iTunes Plus tracks have 256 bit rate and an M4a file extension.

I just bought two Alan Vega songs and while trying to purchase an other I accedentaly pressed the buy Itunes plus version. Now I can't buy any songs I want in the non Plus format. Is there a way to turn Itunes Plus off?

In case the "Solved" is erroneous or for the sake of anyone else reading, to turn off iTunes Plus, log into your iTunes Store account, click on the "Manage iTunes Plus" button, and uncheck the check box.

Anyone else have a clue what is going on with the iTunes store? I see a lot of problems on the message board. I wanted to complete a couple of albums today and was hoping to do so. Apparently the recording industry does not want my money.

The availability of the item changed while you were using the store. The same item may be available with a different price or elsewhere on the store.'
    What am I doing wrong?

Trust me bugeyedbrit, you're far from the only one. I'm having the same problem right now and boy am I upset. It seems that more record labels have gotten on board with iTunes Plus so after months of little or no activity if suddenly found about $300.00 worth of music for me to upgrade. While I'm delighted, that more record labels are now iTunes Plus, the freakin' downloads are just outright atrocious! You know how long it's going to take me to download all of these? God a few days at best, I mean I HAVE a cable high speed connection and I'm more that able to download around 5 songs that = 30 MBS or so at 10 seconds. The songs if you notice and I see most of you have download pretty fast but this "processing file" whatever the **** that is, is taking pretty much freakin' FOREVER!! I don't understand this, so I don't think it HAS anything to do with any one of our connections, it's definetly on iTunes side that this issue is with. Like I said I see that they download fast enough but this processing bit is taking an eternity.
Btw I'm able according to my cable company to download at least 5 songs at the same time that are up to 40 MBS in about 11 seconds or so and the most iTunes Plus will upgrade is about 3 songs together. But even so if it was able to upgrade more at the same time the processing would take all that much longer.
Hasn't anyone shot off a letter to iTunes support about this? I've submitted questions to them in the past that to this day they flat out REFUSE to answer with the proof being lack of any response whatsoever. Nice, arrogant buttheads.

  • How do i purchase iTunes Plus songs?

I have no interest in upgrading previous songs to iTunes+ but any new songs i purchase I would like to purchase at the higher 256 kbps. I don't see anything about iTunes plus anywhere in iTunes

Just to set expectations properly, the majority of tracks in the iTunes Store are in iTunes Plus format now, but you may still find some in the old, copy-protected format. iTunes Plus tracks will have a "+" icon next to the price. Apple has said that they expect to have the rest in iTunes Plus format this month, though it will depend on the record companies.

  • HT201272 There are purchased items that are no longer showing in the iTunes store because I upgraded to iTunes Plus format.  What can I do? My hard drive crashed and lost a great deal of my music and it's not showing in iCloud.

What can I do to see items that I have purchased but upgraded to iTunes Plus? They are not showing in my iCloud as purchased, but I still can see the original protected versions from old backups. The original was downloaded with my iMac but the computers hard drive has burned out and needs to be replaced.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

Thanks for the reply although I'm not too happy to hear it.  What's awesome about the cloud is no longer having to keep up with any physical media.  The promise of that is realized with everything else (my work, music, books) besides movies and TV.
I wonder how Google Play will handle movies/tv that becomes unavailable?  Google Play does allow you to download media in some circumstances (on Android and iOS) but is generally intended  for streaming.  Maybe relying on a physical copy as I do with iTunes should make me more comfortable with it and not less.
I will come back to mark your reply as the solution as it becomes clear there is not a contrary position.  Thank you.

  • Is there a way to identify a thread you want to return to without tagging?

Is there a way to identify a thread you want to return to without tagging?
I will try to explain what I mean.
Let say someone asks a question and you are curious at what people may suggest as solutions.  The interest could range from simple curiosity to "oh, I don't know how to do that, but would like to learn", or whatever reason that would cause someone to revisit a thread.
But the interest is weak enough that you do not want to subscribe to the discussion.  And the topic is not something you want to tag because it is an unusual thread that is unlikely going to re-occur, and you are not sure if you will or will not revisit after a solution is posted or the discussion goes a certain way.
Another example is if the question is interesting, you do not want to mark it because there is no answer / solution yet and you are curious if anyone would ever provide a solution, so you do not want to tag it and a subscription would be useless if no one replies.
    OR
Maybe it is a hot topic of the day / week and that's it..  You would not revisit at a later date.
But for the moment, you want to easily find it during the day or have a reminder that you want to revisit the thread ether in the near future or later when someone has provided an answer.
Is there an easy way to mark threads that you want to re-visit?  Like a "todo" list, but rather a "to re-visit" list...

Delicious is a website wher you can store URL for later use/retrieval. For every link you add you can add some tags, a description, and you can share them with others.
I'm not using it for the use you have in mind, but it would be an idea. I have set up a special Mouse Gesture in Firefox that creates a delicious entry for the current page.
I use delicious heavily when I am looking on the internet for a solution to a specific problem, what happens during such a search is that you see 20-30 pages that look promising but only 3 are actually on topic. Sometimes it turns out one of the 'not so good pages' are actually googd pages, but 3 days later you don't know exactly the search term  you used, or you are on another PC and it's hard to trace back your steps on the WWW. So by using Delicious I can easily create a list of pages on a particular topic.

If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
    open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
    followed by Enter.
