I don't have a DSL or cable modem to access the Internet ... just a mobile WiFi (there is no cable available at our house and the mobile WiFi is our only option). How do I connect my Time Capsule to the Internet via the mobile WiFi?

    LOL!!
I am in Australia and the ISP... I think both the main ones would fit your description to a T.. big T in particular.
Your router is really unsuitable.. if it is only wireless and no ethernet.. just buy an ethernet one.
Do a search on ebay.. 3g router.
But you can get the TC to join a wireless network.
It is a non-standard setup that Apple will not support.. the option is hidden.
If you are on Lion download the 5.6 utility. Go to the wireless set up page and hold down the option key whilst selecting wireless mode.. a new option, join will appear. You can then put in the ssid and passkey of the 3g router.
But please note the end result of this setup..
very slow speed. The TC is now a second wireless hop from your clients.. this will halve the speed.
In this mode the ethernet are deactived.. for reasons only Apple know, they decided you should not use ethernet when doing this.

Is there a thunderbolt to usb 3 adapter available?

This is one nice thing that Apple could do for us 2011 MacBook Pro/Air, Mac Mini, and iMac customers with thunderbolt enabled USB 2.0 machines.
Thunderbolt drives/devices are still prohibitively expensive, and USB 2.0 is PAINFULLY slow.  I was disappointed that the thunderbolt display didn't support USB 3.0, and an adapter like this would allow owners of the Thunderbolt Display to keep the adapter plugged into the thunderbolt out port on the display, and have a USB 3.0 hub on the desk.

  • Is there a cable available that will connect an I pad to an older printer?

Is there a cable available that will connect an I pad to a printer?

If you have a Mac or PC there are utilities available that enable them to act as a print server, enabling you to print to any printer the Mac or PC can use.
The donation-supported handyPrint and a commercial product such as Printopia ($19.95 with free trial) are two examples. The Mac must be "on" but may be asleep for them to work. Equivalent PC options may exist but you're on your own finding them.
You can also buy this standalone print server:
    http://www.lantronix.com/it-management/xprintserver/xprintserver.html
These options enable you to use any printer available to your network, even older ones that may predate AirPrint by decades. But as Bob said, everything you do with an iPad is wireless.

  • How to connect imac to tv using thunderbolt to hdmi cable

I'm trying to connect my mid 2011 iMac to my tv. I have a thunderbolt to hdmi cable that I purchased. I connected the thunderbolt port to the iMac and connected the hdmi port to the tv. I turned on both devices and the tv is not getting the signal. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you open the Displays preferences and do not see an Arrangement tab (or there is an Arrangement tab that shows only a single monitor) then there is something physically wrong with your connection.
Although I don't have thunderbolt, since you can plug mini-displayport into a TB socket, then like mini-displayport, they a a little sneaky in that you need to make sure the plug is fully seated in the socket.
If you do have an Arrangement tab, and it shows two screens, then click detect displays.  Then click Gather Windows to bring the TV's Displays preferences on to your main screen.  Set the proper resolution (probably 720p, 1080i, or 1080p).  Set the refresh rate (probably 60Hz).  You should see a picture at this point.
You may have to play the underscan/overscan settings on your TV and the displays prefs for the TV if the picture is too small or larger for the TV screen.
Also, you need to set your Sound preferences to output to the HDMI connection.

  • Changing network password...There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request in Windows 8 and 8.1 Enterprise

We currently are running Windows 7 in our enterprise environment. Everything works as expected when the user tries to
change their network password via crtl+alt+del, change a password. We are now testing and trying to deploy Windows 8.1 to a test group and are running into an issue when any AD user tries to change their network password. The user can logon to the
PC just fine when the PC is on the domain, however as soon as they go to change their password they are getting the error "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request". The end result is that the user can not change
their password. We tried this via connected to the dock with a network cable, on corporate wireless, with a Windows 8.1 machine completely patched over with all Microsoft patches, and a Windows 8.1 machine that is not patched and are running into the same
issue. Has anyone ran into this? Is there something that has to be changed on the infrastructure side?

    Hi,
    Please check the following KB:

To configure the Password Replication Policy for an RODC, a member of the Domain Admins group is required.
By default, RODC's do not cache any user or computer passwords, neither a user or computer will be able to authenticate. You can however specifiy that their passwords be cached either by including a group or specific user in the Password Replication Policy
on the RODC at the remote site.

  • Thunderbolt to USB cable?

I appreciate that Apple wants to push their Thunderbolt connection, but that doesn't do much good since there are few products out there that support Thunderbolt. It would have been great to have a 3rd USB 3.0 on the Retina and a single Thunderbolt port instead of 2-Thunderbolt ports and 2-USB ports. Is there such thing as a Thunderbolt to USB cable? I do alot of audio/photo editing and use external hardware that runs on USB.

Shootist is right. In other words, what happens is that the max transmission data rate of any one USB controller is shared among all connected devices. 'Devices' being numerous, Bluetooth, iSight/Facetime camera, card reader, internal and external keyboards, trackpad, audio, and peripheral 3rd-party gear as per your liking such as storage devices, etc.
Check your Mac's System Report, the USB controllers are listed there, including what's connected to them. You'll see that the "internal" devices are spread out over the controllers via "internal" hubs. You'll see what the max speed is of both controllers and individual devices - left in marketing terms with "up to".
Aside from other potential bottlenecks, you want to connect external devices which are supposed to run as close to their max speed as possible to a controller that has no other demanding devices aleady connected (e.g. keyboard, or the unused camera).
Admittedly, guessing how Apple would treat additional USB ports, if they existed - giving them their own controller, or connecting them via an existing internal hub - is pure speculation; though it's clear that controllers cost money, and we know that e.g. PCs with four ports typically use hubs for at least two of them...
Fact is you have only two USB ports with individual controllers now, and you could indeed benefit from utilizing a TB port for USB as well since it'd also use its own controller (again, other bottlenecks elsewhere aside). Then, though, the question is, why convert TB to USB instead of using TB gear e.g. for storage? For now this may make the bottleneck in the wallet all too obvious, but if I were you, I'd rather get a cheap USB hub now and save my bucks for the TB drive until its price tag fits me... they're cheaper by the hour...

  • I have deleted hundreds of pictures, I've deleted apps, deleted emails and texts, and I've turned off and deleted backups of apps on icloud and it is still telling me that there is not enough icloud storage available for my phone to be back

I have deleted hundreds of pictures, I've deleted apps, deleted emails and texts, and I've turned off and deleted backups of apps on icloud and it is still telling me that there is not enough icloud storage available for my phone to be backed up. I am supposed to do this before I go to the Apple store today to get my phone fixed. Can someone please help me? I have done almost everything.

This article explains ways to reduce your iCloud storage: Managing your iCloud storage.  In addition to what's mentioned in the article, if you have lots of photos and videos attached to your text messages, these are all included in your iCloud backup and deleting them can sometimes significantly reduce the size of your backup.
If worse comes to worse, back up your phone to your computer rather than iCloud.  To do this, connect it to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Back Up and to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  This can be used to restore your data when you get your phone back.  (In fact, it's faster because you don't have to download the data from iCloud.)

"The Network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password. To connect using a different user name and password, first disconnect any existing mappings to this network share."
As I am not particularly tech savvy, am not the one who set up this network drive, I dont want to interfere with it too much. I simply want to be able to get a basic understanding of the issue. We had set up a previous share, since deleted, that allowed
us to have a shared folder to work on documents between the US and Ireland. This new share has been working fine up until yesterday, when we got the above error messages when trying to access the share. Later in the day, it just worked again. Today, I go to
open the folder and the same error messages turned up, what could be going on??

    Hi Tomas,
Did your computer join the domain? How did you access that shared resource?
Please turn off your firewall temporarily and type the correct UNC address to access for test:
    \\servername\sharename \file_path
If it doesn't work, use the IP address of the remote server when you try to connect to the network share.
    Meanwhile, please read this reference:

  • There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request

I am trying to recover from a catastrophic SBS 2008 disk failure.
This machine was a stand-alone Domain Controller, and as luck would (NOT!) have it, both disks in a RAID1 configuration failed in rapid succession.  Therefore, all I have is server backups to work with.
I have tried many permutations to get this data restored and the domain functional again, but so far, no dice.
I have successfully restored the system disk data from the most recent backup, but when I go to boot the system, I get a reboot loop.  When I tell it not to reboot on error, it gives me:
S c00002e2 Directory Services could not start because of the following error: A device attached to the system is not functioning. Error Status: 0xc0000001. Please shutdown this system and
reboot into Directory Services Restore mode, check the event log for more detailed information.
When I reboot into Directory Services Restore Mode, the system quickly says that AD is clean, but doesn't take me to a command prompt, it takes me to the login screen. When I try to log in as Domain admin, it says:
There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request
And I'm stuck.  Unless I can somehow find out what the local admin credentials are, I can't get in to the system.
I have removed the disk and put it in a Hard drive enclosure, so I can access the files.
At first, I had some complaints about the disk driver, so I found the correct driver version from Intel to circumvent that problem when doing the restore.
I can boot from the installation disk, but I can't use wbadmin from there in the restore mode.
Right now, I'm trying an earlier backup, but something tells me I might have some real trouble here.  This has turned in to quite the mess.
I have also tried reinstalling the OS to a new RAID array, but am loath to try putting the backup on there for fear I will be taken back to square one.
Do I have to start from scratch and recreate the domain and rejoin all the computers to it, or do I have a better alternative?
I have actually restored a SBS 2008 stand-alone DC from backup before, but that was RAID 5, so slightly different. I seem to remember having some driver headaches with that, but I did overcome them by getting into recovery and replacing the driver files
on the disk.  Tried that here, but still no luck.
