Is there a 'tiger upgrade' only cd?

i have an imac (800 mhz, 256 ram, lots of disk space) running 10.1.3. i purchased a tiger cd in taiwan. i've brought it home and tried to install tiger on the imac. it says i need 10.3 in order to upgrade. i erased the hard drive (twice!) from disk utilities and rebooted. it still says i need 10.3 to upgrade (with no other installation options). what gives? is this a different sort of 'upgrade only' cd? please help

Hi athenanex,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
You obviously try to install from upgrade disks. In order to use these upgrade disk you have to have a bootable system 10.3.x installed. These upgrade disks are only meant for users who bought a new Mac after 10.4 was introduced and the preinstalled system was still 10.3.x. For all others using these disks is illegal.

  • Hi there, I've upgraded my Snow Leopard iMac to Yosemite 10.10.1 and would like to install windows 8.1, but bootcamp keeps telling me my mac only supports windows 7. Is there a way I can change that, please?

Hi there, I've upgraded my Snow Leopard iMac to Yosemite 10.10.1 and I would like to install Windows 8.1 using bootcamp. However, there's a pop-up saying that my Mac is only supporting Windows 7. Is there a way to change that, please? Thanks

Please find your Mac Model Identifier from About This Mac -> (More Info) -> System Report -> Hardware and compare it to the following list. If your model identifier appears in this list, you can only install Windows 7.

  • HT4972 Is there way to upgrade to the iOS 5 rather iOS 6.0.1 currently shown as the only choice?

Is there way to upgrade to the iOS version of your choice?  I only see iOS 6.0.1 as the only choice, but several people wrote about their issues with upgrading to iOS 6.  Can I just upgrade from iOS 4 to iOS 5?  How can I access to iOS 5?

I think you can upgrade to iOS5. But you would need to go through a bit more trouble for it.
You would have to get the iOS 5 installer from the web (maybe Apple's archives) and then install using that.

    Hi Bill,
Not possible to run Tiger on a new Mac at all.
The good news is that VueScan supports many Mikrotek scanners & is free to try...

  • Post-Tiger Upgrade: Mail won't import!

    Hi,
I've upgraded to Tiger with no problems, but I'm having great difficulty with mail ever since. Initially it copied all my old mail over, but it placed it in my home directory, doubling in size in the process. When I tried moving it to another drive via an alias, it refused to open any messages except brand new ones. When I re-opened, it was fubar. Since then I've tried dumping the home/library/Mail folder entirely, replacing it with old contents, to no avail. It will see the old folders, but not the messages within. So, I get an empty directory structure.
I definitely DON'T want a huge mail folder on my home directory. Any hints on:
    1) How to move/reimport my old library successfully (ie with messages AND directory structure)
    2) Keep my new messages and rebuilt library on an aliased folder on a different drive.
It seems like Mail hates non-home volumes. Maybe not?
    Help!

    Dave,
There are number of topics about this issue, and others allied. I want you to read the article at the link below, and perhaps get back to me with some observations, before attempting any changes:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301315
This issue of leftover files applies not only to mailboxes you have previously created (which are in the Mailboxes folder the article mentioned) but can also apply to those mailboxes in account folders created prior to the upgrade to Tiger.
Also, please report the size of each file or folder. Do not, however, try to list the files that are within the folder named Messages, that is found in each and every mailbox. It is very important to compare the size of any file named "mbox" with that of the Messages folder. If the mbox is greater in size than the Messages folder, then not all messages have been converted to be in the Messages folder.
The path to the Mail folder is Home/Library/Mail -- within the Mail folder are one or more account folders and the Mailboxes folder.
In a pre-conversion to Tiger mailbox, the only file that really mattered, in regard to message content, was the file "mbox". In a mailbox properly created and established in Tiger, the only thing that really matters is the folder named Messages.
If you have already substituted the old Mail folder, and no conversion has taken place, you only need to remove the Envelope Index file, and Mail will convert all mboxes into Messages folder, after which the mbox files can be removed.

  • Tiger Upgrade No Go

I have three machines all sucessfully running OSX10.3.9 as follows:
    G4 eMac/1gHz/1gRam
    G4 15"PB/1.5gHz/2gRam
G4 AGP Graphics Tower/1gHz Sonnet processor upgrade card/1gRam
    OS9.2.2 on original boot drive
OSX10.3.9 on secondary internal ATA drive
    Adaptec 2930CU SCSI card.
    Firmware v4.2.8.
The Tiger upgrade went fine on my first two machines. My Tower is giving me fits. I tried Tiger as a basic upgrade on the OSX HD, tried erasing the drive and doing a whole fresh Tiger install, everything, but for some reason, Tiger will not operate properly. The machine runs kludgy, System Prefs will not open, Terminal Window will not run commands. I verified the drive as OK running off the Tiger install CD. It's driving me nuts. The only thing I can think of is maybe there is some sort of SCSI or Sonnet conflict that is unique only to Tiger, as Panther installed fine as I recall, the Panther updates all went fine, and running OSX10.3.9, that machine ran fine.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance!

Still a no-go. I pulled the SCSI card, and no difference.
Sonnet has on their download page a download for Tiger users who have their Encore ST G4 card. The download is called Sonnet Cache Version: 1.4b1.
I installed it, but no difference. I contacted Sonnet Tech Support and hopefully they have a solution. It is listed as a beta version, and no idea if a new one is coming.
Maybe I'm just out of luck with this Sonnet Encore ST G4 card and Tiger.

  • USING TIGER UPGRADE

i currently have 10.0.2 (i know, kinda behind the curve) and purchased tiger....i know i can do full install, but if i want to just use the 'tiger upgrade' can i do it from 10.0.2? or do i have to purchase the jaguar upgrade(10.2) in order to be able to install the tiger? stressed!!!! help!!!

    Hi artsenthusiast,
    first make sure you have
the retail full install version of Tiger (black DVD).
You cannot use hardware specific disks that shipped
    with another computer (gray).
    You cannot
directly upgrade from 10.0.x or 10.1.x to 10.4.x. You
will have to either reformat the drive (recommended)
or do an Erase&Install. In both cases all your
data will be lost, so make sure you have a complete
backup!!! If your computer is a dual-boot model (can
boot into OS 9 natively) I suggest to reformat the
drive using the OS 9 install CDs. By reformatting the
drive with the OS 9 disk you are safe that all
required OS 9 hardware drivers will be installed
    properly.
    1. Boot up from the OS 9 install
CD and reformat the drive as Apple Extended
    (HFS+).
    2. Install OS 9 and update it to 9.2.2: Mac OS 9: Available Updates
    3. Confirm
you can boot into OS 9
    4. Upgrade your firmware:
    Firmware Upgrades
    5. Insert the Tiger
install DVD and reboot while holding down th
    c-key.
    6. Once the installer has started select
    "disk utility" from the menu.
    7. Select "repair OS
    9 privilegies" from the menu.
    8. Repair the
    disk.
    9. Quit disk utility and proceed with a
normal install (do not select Erase&Install
because this would erase your OS 9)
    10. After the
    reboot Repair permissions!
    11. Download
and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update
    (PPC).
    12. Repair permissions again and
finally run Software Update from the Apple menu to
install all remaining updates (yes, you should
install all at once because only the software update
app knows the exact order in which they have to be
    installed).
    Good luck!

your question please consider granting some stars: Why

hi gulliver, steve, all you mac geniuses out there taking the time to help out...
    a few things...
i have both 9.2.2 and ox 10.0.2 installed on my computer, and usually boot from 9.2 (i know, get with it, huh) because my photoshop, illust, quark, etc. are all for classic apps)..that's why i bought tiger (yep, the black disk) but found out if i installed it it would wipe out my hd, and then couldn't do the upgrade because i don't have 10.2 yet....
so, please clarify...if i purchase a used copy of jaquar on say ebay, and upgrade, and then upgrade w/ tiger, is this the safest way to go? or should i put all my trust in you gulliver, and go for it the way you outlined here by way of the classic 9 os? would these be the same steps to take now that i've told you i have ox 10.0.2 installed, too?
i'm kind of hesitant that i'll %$ck something up, but need to get with the times! thing is, i spent almost 3 grand last year due to a power surge that spent my hd...didn't back up, so drivesavers got all data back for me for the low, low price of 2700., then had to buy a new hd...so updating to a new mac was not an option for me last year - got to make due with the quicksilver g4 for a while.....
sorry for the melodrama, but i need any help you guys can give me, i just don't want to mess up again and go through what i did last year with my data!!! thanks for all of your much appreciated help!!!!

  • Mac OS X Tiger Upgrade

Hello, i'm currently running a iBook G4 with Mac OS X Panther, I got Tiger for christmas this year, but i have not upgraded. simply because i don't want to lose all my programs, like adium, or psptoolchain (which is in the user directory), is the tiger upgrade process easy on programs and files? will all my programs still be in the applications folder? i could care less about my system settings, its just my files that i cannot afford to lose.
oh, and one more question, is the Mac OS X intel install available to purchase? it would be great to run a computer with more power with mac os x tiger.

    Hi Koba,
You can continue to use all your programs by choosing 'Simple Upgrade'.
But, before this upgrade, make sure your 10.3.x system has no any issue.
Do the followings before Tiger installation :
    1-Boot from Panther Install CD,
2-Open 'Disk Utility' from menu bar, select the disc you want to install Tiger,
and run "Repair Disk". İf there is any correction, run it again until you see
    'Everything is OK'.
İf you get some error message(s) that Disk Utility cannot fix, use DiskWarrior to repair.
Important: If it cannot be fixed by DiskWarrior ,do not continue installation procedure.
Backup your data and use 'Erase and Install'.
    İf everything is OK ,
3-Start up as your normal user in Panther. Open Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility .
Select your volume and click on 'Repair Disk Permissions'. Quit Disk Utility
    4-Backup your data.
Check if your iBook needs a Firmware Update.
    Boot from Tiger dvd.
1-After language selection, do not continue and open 'Disk Utility' from menu bar.
    2-Run 'Repair Disk' utility only.
Very important : Do NOT run 'Repair Permissions'
You must see 'No repairs were necessary'. If you get any correction report, run it once
    again.
    Quit Disk Utility.
3-Select your volume, click on 'Options' button and choose 'Upgrade Mac OS X'.
    Click Continue.
4-Choose Easy Install or Custom Install which lets you install additional software like
    fonts and printer drivers.
Click on Install. Your Mac will reboot automatically after installation.
    That's all.
    Good luck.

  • If my iphone, ipad, MAC and macbook pro are all linked, and then I upgrade only my phone to iOS 7.0, does that have an effect on my calendar, etc.  It doesn't seem to be showing the same data it was before the update.  Lost lot of info from calendar.

If my iphone, ipad, MAC and macbook pro are all linked, and then I upgrade only my ipone to IOS 7.0, does that have an effect on the linking to my other MAC products.  It seems my calendar has lost a lot of information since the upgrade.

If you purchased Lion for your iMac, just log into the Mac App Store from your MacBook using the Apple ID under which you purchased Lion and go to the Purchases page. You will be able to download and install Lion there.
searching the internet i found a link to upgrtade to 10.7
The only place you get get Lion is from the Mac App Store. If you found some other site, that was an illegal copy and almost certainly tied to someone else's Apple ID and hence unusable by you. If the link was just to the Mac App Store, see above.
As to the problem with synchronization to iCloud, that's not a 10.6 question, so I'd suggest you take up that specific issue in either the Lion or iCloud forums, providing full details, and someone there can probably help you sort things out.
    Regards.

i got a message in gmail "this version of Safari is no longer supported.  Pls upgrade to a supported browser."  When I click on 'supported browser' it takes me to Apple's Safari site but there is no 'upgrade now' button.  What am I missing?

Google seem to have decided in the last week or so that Safari 5.x, which is the newest Safari version available for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) is "not supported" any more, even though there are many reasons for staying with these OS X versions.
Try this (at your own risk, but it works for me), as it seems to remove the message by tricking Gmail into thinking your Safari version is newer:
    -- Quit Safari
-- Locate the following file (location depends on your OS X version):
    OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/WebKit2.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.pl ist
OS X 10.5 Leopard and older:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.plist
-- Drag the file to your Mac's desktop to make a copy. Also make a safe copy somewhere else eg your Documents folder, as if you lose or mess up the file Safari will not launch at all. Having a backup browser is also recommended.
-- Double-click it to open it in TextEdit
-- Locate the CFBundleVersion value (the last line in the file that has numbers in it) and increment the second digit of it to the required version of Safari e.g. Safari 6 now seems to be the minimum version that Google support so change the second number from 5 to 6 (don't change anything else, only the change the second number). The value is different depending on your OS X version but as an example, for Snow Leopard 6534.59.10 becomes 6634.59.10
-- Drag the file back from the desktop to its original location, choose the option to replace the old version, and enter your password when prompted.
-- Run a permissions repair in Disk Utility to set the permissions in the file back to what they should be (not required, but good practice).
-- Launch Safari and test Gmail.

  • Tiger Upgrade

I am looking to purchase a full disk set Tiger upgrade...I have a PowerMac G5 Panther 10.3.9...from what I gather...I have to purchase a disk set designed for "PowerMac"...as opposed to a set that is designed for "eMac"..."Mac Mini"...etc...is that the case?...any comments/input will be much appreciated...smiles

The current retail Tiger disk from Apple (10.4.6) will work on any PPC Mac that meets Tiger requirements built-in FireWire, 512MB RAM). Any other Tiger disks were made for a particular model, and were designed not to work on other models. Even if you found one that worked, you would probably be violating the license, since they are only licensed to be installed on one computer, and since Tiger is the current operating system, it is unlikely to have been removed from the machine the disk came from.

  • Why there no more upgrade for MacBook Pro 17in ?

Why there no more upgrade for MacBook Pro 17in ?

The story I heard was that there wasn't enough volume of sales for Apple to expend the resources to develop the line further.  When the 17" MBP line only accounted for 2-3% of the sales, it wasn't enough to offset the expense to engineer it, stock it, support it, etc.  What they chose to do was to offer the retina display 15" MBP that supports the same resolution (and possibly higher) and at the same time reduce the number of models they have to support.

  • Is there a way to only sync my photos?

    Hi.
I just got a new iPhone 5c, which was an upgrade from my 4s. I backed up my 4s to my computer, instead of iCloud. I'm about to plus my 5c into the computer and I was wondering if there is a way to choose what I was to restore to my phone? For an example, when I plug my phone in, it will ask me if I want to restore my backup to this phone. I don't want messages to load back onto it, I just want the pictures, and I already uploaded all the apps myself. Is there a way to only do pictures? When it gets to the menu if I want to reload this phone or start fresh what would I click on? Thanks.

    No.
Transferring a backup is all or none.
You can import the photos/videos from the 4S camera roll with your computer as with any other digital camera which you should have already been doing.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
You can transfer select photos/videos from your computer to the new iPhone via the iTunes sync process - selected under the Photos tab for your new iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync.

So i am running 10.2 jaguar and bought the tiger upgrade, and now obviously i cannot do that. am i screwed or is there anyway forf me to down an upgrade from jaguar to panther? and then i can use my disk to go on up to tiger?
    please help me!!

...and bought an upgrade for 10.4...
The upgrade you bought is not officially sold by Apple and therefore isn't legal for you to use.
If you buy the retail version of 10.4 it will upgrade 10.2 to 10.4.
i need 10.3, is there anyway to buy and download 10.3
There is no way to download 10.3. You can buy it on-line but it will need to be shipped to you.
