Is there a utility that cleans up itunes?

Is there a utility program available that automatically cleans up things like band names... The Hollies to Hollies... makes all the genre uniform for a group/performer, corrects spelling... etc???
Thanks

I am not aware of anything like that but you can do a lot of that in bulk in iTunes. When you select a bunch of tracks at the same time, do a Get Info on the batch, you can now change tags that will be applied to all the selected tracks.
So for example, you could select all the tracks by a band, get info on the whole batch then assign a single Genre to the whole batch. Or you could type in "Hollies" for the search term, get all the tracks that show up as The Hollies and just Hollies, select them all, then retype the band name ONCE to be applied evenly to all of them.

is there anyone here that works for itunes support?
I have waited for 39 hours for a response from support team with no reply.  I can get any of my credit cards to be accepted with itunes.  Somthing is wrong on apples side of things..been to apple store and they could not help either.  this is crappy.  I am one of the biggest apple fans but this is one side of apple that really *****.  CAN'T TALK TO A LIVE HUMAN FROM ITUNES?  Give me a break.

I agree completely endive!  I've been fighting for days trying to get some help with a technical problem and apparently, you can't get help from Apple without paying out the nose.  The problem I'm having is due to an update they recommended which I installed and now have no sound in itunes!
I too love Apple products.  I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, their customer service after the sale!  The are just as bad as Microsoft.

  • HT201541 Our Mac-Mini has gotten slower and slower. Is there a utility that would help speed it up?

Our 4 plus year old Mac-Mini has gotten slower and slower.  Is there a utility that would help speed it up or is there another?

Hello! I’ve offered the steps below to similar posts in the past and they helped out getting to the solution (or at least find the cause). I suggest them to you too in this case. It will take you about 30 minutes or less to do these, depending on how bad the problem on your Mac is.
The goal here is to boot your Mac to the so-called Recovery partition where you’ll have a chance to repair the disk and the disk permissions using the Disk Utility and Password Utility. This might solve your issue and even if it doesn’t- it’s still a decent maintenance step to perform. These steps won’t erase your data or reinstall your Mac in any way if you follow instructions carefully.
    Here’s how:
1/ Make sure your computer is completely shut down.
2/ You’ll have to be quick next: Press the Mac’s power button. As soon as you either hear the loud chime, or see the display light up - usually after a second or 2 - on your keyboard press [cmd] + [r] Keep these keys on your keyboard pressed until you either see an Apple Logo with a loading bar or a spinning gear.
After a few minutes, you’ll be presented with a Utilities screen. This is the Recovery partition. If this step is already giving you problems, try using a USB-keyboard. It doesn’t have to be an Apple-keyboard. If you have a Windows-tailored keyboard laying around, use the “Windows-flag” key in stead of the [cmd]-key and it should also work.
3/ Choose Disk Utility and click [continue]
Disk Utility will display your computer’s harddrive in the left column. The default name for it is “Macintosh HD” and is usually the second one from the top. Click on it and click on the [verify disk] button. This will check your “Macintosh HD” harddrive partition for errors. If found, click [repair disk]  unless you have a Fusion drive in your Mac and it says [fix] instead of [repair disk] please tell us before you continue! For a screenshot of what I mean, check this article from Apple: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202574
4/ Once done with the verifying or repairing of your “Macintosh HD” click [repair disk permissions]
This will check your partition for permissions errors. A common myth about this feature is that it will fix all permissions issues on your Mac, which is not true, but it will fix most systemwide issues. Also, here is a list of error messages that you can safely ignore if they pop up:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203172
5/ Lastly we shall do a permissions/Access Control List repair on specifically your user’s home folder with a somewhat hidden tool in the Recovery partition. Close Disk Utility and find the menu called “utilities” in the top left corner of your computer’s display. It’s in between the menus “edit” and “window” Don’t be confused with the menu called “os x utilities”
Choose Terminal. A somewhat old-fashioned looking window will pop up, waiting for a text command from you. This is the Terminal.
After the # type: resetpassword and press return. Note that there is no space between ‘reset’ and ‘password’
What you’ll see next is an rectangular window that gives you the option to reset passwords. We are not going to that, however. Instead, click on “Macintosh HD” at the top. In the pull-down menu below that, choose your user's accountname. Skip all the rest and at the very bottom click the [reset]-button.
A spinning gear will appear and may stay on for a second or several minutes. It’s hard to predict exactly how long.
If you have multiple users on your Mac, I advise you to repeat this step for all your users.
We’re ready to reboot your Mac now. Click on the Apple Menu and choose “startup disk” Choose to boot from “Macintosh HD” Please let us know if this solved your issue, or if the steps above did not work, or could not be performed for some reason.
If they worked I suggest you do these steps everytime your Mac becomes slow.

  • Are there any applications that cleans up your macbook ?

Ccleaner on Windows has a few functions:
    1: Repairs the Registry
    2: Cleans the caches
3: Secure Erases free space on the drive / deleted files.
    OnyX for OS X.
1: OS X doesn't have a Registry to bork, but other things like Preference files, caches etc, can.
2: OnyX can clean the caches and check for corrupted Preference files, rebuilt ds_store files and other things, basically clean out all the automated stuff designed to make the computer faster so it can rebuild it in case it gets borked or may contain content you rather wish it didn't.
3: OnyX can Erase whats in the Trash, but not wipe free space on the drive, Apple's provided Disk Utility has a feature to to that.
So if your looking for something to clean your Internet tracks on OS X, first use the browser cleaning aspects, then OnyX cleaning, then a reboot to clear the OS X DNS cache then a Disk Utility > Wipe Free Space.
These features are not automated or intertwined with Firefox add-ons like Click2Clean is with CCleaner on Windows. You'll have to perform it manually.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
Another option for totally cleaning one's system faster on OS X would be to use the free VirtualBox to run a free distro ISO of Linux (Ubuntu, Mint, MacBuntu etc) in OS X. Then once the distro is setup in the virtual machine, save a snapshot of this OS state to revert back to after browsing potentially malicious sites in Firefox (in Linux)
Reverting on takes only a few seconds, instead of the painfully long time OnyX can take, and ensures everything is included for removal, of course a DU free space wipe would be necessary for completeness.

  • Is there a utility that will show the actual ram voltage in Windows?

Sorry for the newbie question.  ASUS had this utility that showed the actual ram voltage in windows.  I don't think it'd work with an MSI motherboard.    And I don't think any of the overclocking utilities show the actual ram voltage.  The reason I asked was because the ASUS P5N-D overvolted my ram by .1 volts.    If I set 2.2v in the BIOS, it would overvolt the ram to 2.3v.  That's not exactly the greatest thing.  I just wanted to check if my brand spanking new P7N Diamond is doing the ram voltage accurately.  It should be right?  Oh and I have cheapo Patriot memory ram.  It's rated at 2.2 volts.  Seems like all PC2 6400 ram is rated at 2.2 volts these days though.  Maybe a 2.1v somewhere but that's becoming more and more rare.  Thanks.

yeah...  LOL.  Everest shows what you've set it to.  I can just look in the BIOS or just like remember 2 seconds into the past.  :-P  I guess there isn't something for that.  Just as I thought.  I wonder if I can trick the ASUS utility into thinking that I'm running an ASUS board.  :-P  Probably wouldn't work right anyway though.

  • Is there a utility that can do this?

I have a few videos I watch every day for training purposes. What I'd love to be able to do is find some way where I black out everything else on my screen except the movie, so I can't see any other windows, can't see the desktop, nothing. I want to eliminate visual distractions.
now some will say "just go full screen", but I don't want to go full screen. The resolution doesn't support it and that's just too big and fuzzy. I want to keep it at about a half to a third of the screen, but I want that size displayed and then nothing else.
I seem to vaguely remember some utility that would do something like this but now I can't find it, and maybe I just dreamt it up. Anybody have any suggestions?

    I'm using QuickTime Player 10.0.
Try the key sequence "Command-F" followed by "Command-1" to play the file at its "normal" size on a black screen.

  • Is there a utility that'll show Vdimm on a neo2

I'm sick of core centre lying to me and would also like a monitoring program that can actually read Vdimm.  Is there such a utility out there?
    Thanks.

You'll probably need to use a multimeter.
Even if CoreCenter wasn't bug-ridden, no one should really trust software to report these numbers, since they're at the mercy of how sensitive the voltage measurement chip is on the motherboard.
Given motherboard pricing wars, they use cheap parts for such non-essential things.
So, if you want it done right...you get the idea.

  • Is there an utility that allow "Apps" menu in menu bar?

Lo, all these many years and I still think the dock is inferior to the pre-X option of having all the apps in a pull-down menu under the apple. (Accomplished through third-pary utility, if I'm not mistaken.)
Is there a utlity today that puts the contents of the Applications folder in the menu bar?

And lo, all these years later there is still AppleScript and you should be able do that by writing a script and activating scripts in your menubar.
As I recall it looks/works exactly like that screenshot of Xmenu. Except I don't see Utilities on the Xmenu. Is it hierarchal, because AppleScript is?

  • Is there some utility that could wake a computer more than once in a day

I need to be able to bring my computer out of sleep when I'm not around to run some automator routines. The built in software in Energy Saver is great but it only lets you set your computer to wake once in a day. I probably need mine to work a couple of times in a 24 hour period.
    Thanks

    Hi,
There is no limit to the number of times Sysprep can run on a computer. However, the clock for Windows Product Activation begins its countdown the first time Windows starts.
If you anticipate running Sysprep multiple times on a single computer, you must use the SkipRearm setting in the Microsoft-Windows-Security-Licensing-SLC component to postpone resetting the activation clock. Because you can reset the activation clock only
three times, if you run Sysprep multiple times on a computer, you might run out of activation clock resets. Microsoft recommends that you use the SkipRearm setting if you plan on running Sysprep multiple times on a computer.

  • Is there a utility that documents our worksheet settings?

i.e. conditions, calcuations, sorting, worksheets used etc.
Same with Admin. Joins, hierarchies etc.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
For workbooks you will have to use the d51wkdmp.exe utility supplied with Discoverer Administrator.
For documenting the EUL you can import and use 'The Discoverer V5 EUL' business area held in the EUL5.eex export file also supplied with Discoverer Administrator.
    Hope that helps,

  • Is there any Enterprise Manager Utility that can help update the Hostname

I have installed An Oracle Database 12c and further planning to install Enterprise Manager 12c CC on top of this,
Since occassionally my system IP changes due to dhcp configuration, hence i prefer using hostnames instead of IP address and further update hosts.properties file iwthin C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
further in case if i have to change the hostname of my machine, is there any utility that will help to update the hostname across properties files of all the Enterprise Manager components ?
Also when installing 12c EMCC, i understand there is a pre-requisite to deconfig dbcontrol.
In my case when i run from on Oracle 12c Database home, - emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop,
    I get unkown command error.
C:\app\Oracle\product\12.1.0\dbhome_1\BIN>emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
'emca' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.
    C:\app\Oracle\product\12.1.0\dbhome_1\BIN>
kindly guide from where do i run the deconfig command or whether is it really required or not

  • Any utili to clean the messages in the queue?

Is there any utility that can delete specific messages from the queue? that could make maintenance easier.
              Regards
              dt

Is there any utility that can delete specific messages from the queue? that could make maintenance easier.                    (1) You could write a program that uses a javax.jms.QueueBrowser. Then delete specific messages by consuming them using a selector with the message identifier as in the following example:
              String selector =
              "JMSMessageID = '" + message.getMessageID() + "'";
Keep in mind that the queue browser is a not a "live" view of the queue. It is a snap-shot.
              (2) WL 9.0 and later has message management mbeans (JMX) that are available both programmatically and through the console. These let you browse and delete messages, and are more powerful than the QueueBrowser (there's access to messages that normally wouldn't be visible to the QueueBrowser, such as scheduled messages that haven't been born yet).
              (3) There are various utilities that use QueueBrowser.
The one I recall is a dev2dev project based on the JMS "QueueBrowser" API that's called "JMS Error Destination Manager". I think there's also a fairly sophisticated open source project (on Apache?) which works similarly (I don't recall the name).

    dear all,
appreciate any help with the new iyune install.
get a message that itune.exe set to run in compatabilty mode for an older version of windows. i use windows7.

    many thanks

Amazing that someone noticed this post and took a stab at it after over a year... Actually, I found my answer long ago, and have tried to go back and post?it'son several boards where I had been looking for the answer. It seems to be such a common problem that I figure someone else can surely use this solution as I did. I would suggest that anyone?who is experiencing the frustration of not?getting their computer to recognize their device?read the very enlightening and helpful page that I am linking to here:
http://www.misticri'ver.net/forums/showthread.php?t=30939? (this is from a forum for iRi'ver, but the info and fix are uni'versal)
This simple solution involves correcting the ENUM keys in the Registry (not as scary as you might think) and deleting all instances of your player from the Device Manager and then reinstalling so that Windows and other applications will all recognize your player again. It's so simple, and once I tried it, I was amazed that's all it took to fix the problem.
?I?suggest you read the whole page and follow the instructions as they are given. I deleted and re-installed my player several times and then rebooted a couple of times before it took effect, but then it did, and I was able to download the Firmware and have had continued success with my original player that I posted about as well as others I have acquired since I first posted that message in 2006. For reasons I have not yet identified, this problem still happens every now and again, sometimes when I switch between players to synchronize. It may well be that when I use my registry cleaner or some other utility that "fixes" my registry, that it resets this particular key - but as long as it's easy to fix, it's not a problem. Hope this helps others who may stumble upon this odd little problem with the Zen Xtra.Message Edited by TrixieInDixie on -05-200709:28 PM

  • My iTunes won't open...is there a virus that effects iTunes?

when i try to open itunes it takes awhile, shows the hourglass and then does nothing. doesnt even open up anything. i havent had any problems with the program until recently when my computer got hit up pretty bad with some viruses. im wondering if there are certain viruses that wont let itunes open. ive unistalled and re-installed itunes to no avail. still wont open...
anyone hear of something like this and could help?
    hp   Windows XP

Personally I think your computer just needs a thorough clean - removing all files/folders relating to iTunes and QT and not just by using the standard uninstall. Get yourself a good virus checker and firewall and once all this is done try re-installing iTunes and QT.
    I hope the above helps.

I have found the radio station I enjoy listening to in the iTunes Radio List. Is there anyway iTunes (and my Mac) can be set to come-on from Sleep mode and start playing that Radio Station at specific times of the day?
Any App or plug-in that does that?
    Many thanks

Turning your Mac into a clock radio.
    1.  In iTunes create a playlist that contains just the radio station you want to wake up to.
    2.  Export the playlist (as .m3u works well).  Get Info on your playlist file and look at the Open With entry to make sure it points to iTunes, VLC or some other app that will stream your station.
    3.  In iCal create an event entry at the time you want to wake up.
    4.  Right (or Control) click on your wakeup event and select Get Info.
    5.  For "alarm" select Open File.
    6.  Now under Open File there will be a place to add the file to open.  It will probably be some default entry (like iCal).  Click on it will allow you to select "other."  Then use the file dialog to select your playlist file.
Your Mac will wake you up at the appointed time.  You don't need to keep iCal running.  If you want to put you Mac to sleep for the night then there is one more thing you need to do.  Open System Preferences to Energy Saver and click on the Schedule button.  Check Start up or wake and set the wake up time to slightly before your iCal alarm time.
