  • Why are there two versions of Photoshop (CC

After accidentally opening two parts of the same website in DW CC and DW 2014 CC, I uninstalled the older version.  Can someone tell me WHY the new version didn't overwrite the older one?  I assume that it is necessary to uninstall older versions, but this should be automatic on the upgrade shouldn't it?.  What is the reason for this? Kind of interested because it was unexpected.
Years ago when upgrading from CS3 we discovered that the Photoshop PDF function could no longer make PDFs with pages in newer versions CS4 and CS5 (which clients wanted) so I have kept my CS3 Photoshop pgm just for making PDFs, while running the latest version for everything else.  Is it possible that Adobe depreciated some functions in this new release of CC2014 and that is the reason for both versions of CC?  Just putting it out there, I don't spend my vacations in Roswell, NM or anything like that.
    Thanks!
    John

Adobe, why are you making things so complicated...
People pay for the cloud, so they want improvement, they want to go with the latest tools automatically.
I'm a spoiled Mac user, where Apple always overwrites old apps, which is the most user friendly solution there is.
Please do this as well, because it truly sucks to have two apps!
Could you tell me how I get rid of the old version on a user friendly way, so my documents open with the new app.
    Thanks in advance.

  • What version of photoshop works with Mac Mountain Lion?

I have an older Mac. Upgraded to Mountain Lion. Installed CS3. All works fine but for photoshop. Is there a fix? Or is there a version of photoshop that will work with ML that I can purchase?

Jim Sloan do you receive a specific error when trying to use Photoshop CS3 under Mac OS 10.8?
If you are looking for a version of Photoshop designed for Mac OS 10.7 and later then I would recommend Photoshop CC.  There a couple different options to subscribe at the moment.  You can find more details at https://creative.adobe.com/plans/offer/photoshop+lightroom?promoid=KHQFP and https://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/buying-guide-at-a-glance.html.  Please be aware that the Photoshop Lightroom Photography bundle is only available for a limited time.

  • Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine?

I have a custom built Java 6 application that doesn't like Photoshop CS5 64 bit edition.  The program copies over a file from the network to the local machine and then opens it in Photoshop.  The user manipulates the image and saves the changes.  The user then completes the image and the application copies the image back to the server.  The problem we're having is: When we use Photoshop CS5 64-bit, it takes about 2 minutes for Photoshop to open the image.  The file is copied over within 2 seconds and the Photoshop icon on the windows taskbar starts flashing.  But then you spend a few minutes waiting for it to open.
Some things that I have tried to isolate the problem:
    - I found you can copy the file somewhere else, double click on it and the image will open in Photoshop before the script is able to open the file.
    - I tried uninstalling Photoshop and reinstalling just the 64 bit edition without the 32 bit installation.  The script just stops working in this situation.
    - I tried uninstalling CS5 and installing CS3.  The image opens as soon as the file is copied over.
What I would like to try next is to install just the CS5 32 bit version.  But the installer is being uncooperative and will only allow either the 64 bit version or both the 64 and 32 bit versions.  So, back to my question: Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine?

Do you mean schroot?  If so I'm not sure exactly how well that will work out, because the part that depends on python is a deamon that handles communication between the USB dongle and the Tux Droid which may mean hacking the deamon a bit so ether way this does not seem like it will be a easy task.

  • Is there any possible way I can use the keyboard controls/shortcuts of Microsoft on the Mac version or PhotoShop?

I am very used to using a PC for Photoshop and just recently changed to Mac. I tried plugging in a different but the keyboard shortcuts arent like Windows version

    shldr2thewheel wrote:
Since you have a mac, learn how to use Photoshop for Mac and stop thinking about Windows.  Time to let go and learn how to use programs for Mac.
This is pretty horrible advice. 95% of Photoshop works the same on Mac and PC. Almost all of the keyboard shortcuts are identical except that Ctrl becomes Command and Alt becomes Option (same key anyway). The menus are all the same.
    shldr2thewheel wrote:
Also, when using PS on a Mac, their is no option to enable "windows keyboard mode" in OS X. I know, I have used PS on a PC and currently use it on a Mac.  You have no option but to learn how to use it on a Mac.  If you are comfortable with Windows, purchase a copy of Windows and run it in Boot Camp or a virtual machine and purchase a copy of PS for windows. Then when in Windows, I believe you can use MS shortcuts.
This is also (mostly) incorrect advice.
If you look in the Keyboard system preference, and you click Keyboard Shortcuts, you will find a shortcut called "Move focus to the menu bar." Once this happens, you can type ahead to menus and commands, much like the alt menu shortcuts in Windows. If you wanted to open the Duplicate command, it would be Ctrl-F2 to activate the menu bar (edit that shortcut if you don't like it), then type I and Enter to drop the Image menu, then type D and Enter to open Duplicate. If there were two D commands, you would type ahead until the letters are different. You can use the spacebar instead of Enter, and Esc does the same as Windows. I just tried all this in CS5 and it works fine. The advantage over Windows is that you do not need to memorize the alt shortcuts, because it's based on the command name you want instead of an arbitrary letter in the middle of the name.
As jasdril said, you can simply edit the direct shortcuts too. But in most cases there should be no need to because as I said, most are the same anyway.
In short, there is plenty of keyboard-driven flexibility there for anyone willing to adapt just a little tiny bit.
The second advice that is not so good is recommending a Windows virtual machine. That'll slow down Photoshop, in addition to using up a lot of RAM and CPU that Photoshop really needs. The Mac version of Photoshop being native, would run at a proper speed.
The last possibly bad decision in this thread is TTro787 deciding to take the Mac back to the store, ignoring a quarter century of history of the Mac as a well-established graphic design and photo workstation. If you don't think the Mac is going to work well for Photoshop, it isn't going to be because of the Mac... the Mac is not just for Starbucks posers. Too many smart scientists (who want to use the Unix-based OS) and competent designers use Macs.
In short there is a whole lot of intolerance and assumed differences in this thread by both Mac and Windows zealots, which is too bad. Photoshop is mostly the same on Mac and Windows unless you're trying really hard to make it not work.

Is Photoshop CC 32 bit, or 64??  From what i can tell, it looks like there's versions of both.  So how do i know which version i have downloaded in the $9.99 year trial?

If you're running Windows 64 bit, you'll get both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Photoshop.
Run 64 bit Photoshop all the time.
There's a faint possibility that you may occasionally need the 32 bit version for 32 bit only plugins e.g. TWAIN scanner so Adobe includes it.
If not, just ignore the 32 bit version and don't use it.

  • Is there an upgrade version of photoshop cs6?

Is there an upgrade version of photoshop cs6?

It's not clear what  you are asking.
If you're asking whether there is an upgrade path from a lower version to Photoshop to Photoshop CS6 ( Photoshop 13.x), then the answer is yes.  You can upgrade from Cs5 to CS6 perpetual license for $199.00.  Just go to the store and, initially ignore the full $699 price.  Just click on "Buy" and you'll be presented with a black dropdown menu where you can choose between Full and Upgrade.  The dialog will then guide you.
If you want to sign on to the monthly subscription model where you pay every month and never really own Photoshop, then that's just a matter of subscribing, regardless of whether you have a prior version or not.
If you're asking whether you can upgrade from CS6 to a higher version, then the answer is no.  There will never be a CS7.  In the future it will be by subscription only.

  • Is there a 64 bit version of Photoshop Elements 11?w.

Is there a 64 bit version of Photoshop Elements 11?

But PSE11 runs well on 64 bit systems. In fact many apps are 32bit. If you do any video work have a look at the combo Photshop Elements + Premiere Elements which is very good value. Premiere Elements does have 64 bit support.
