Is there a way 2 rite prog to continuously monitor the CD Drive?

Hello,
I want to write a program which will be monitoring the CD drive continuously from the time the computer has started till it is shutdown.(i.e whether a CD has been inserted or not)
I have tried to search the API's for a class that might help but can't find any.
I will be grateful if you can help me out
