I'm editing a project that has a fair amount of old VHS material in it. Is there a way to clean it up and make it appear at least a little sharper?

Research time base corrector and image enhancer.
The best way to do this is on the ingest, not in the timeline.
Be aware of the fundamental differences between the densities of information between DV, your likely editing format, and VHS-converted-to-DV-via-blackbox.
When you apply image enhancement to an analog signal, the device detects contrast and chroma changes in adjacent pixels and attempt to increase the difference artificially by adding a few pixels of negative risetime. It always looks artificial, a little goes a long way. You can boost the chroma, too, producing yet another unnatural look and feel.
My recommendation is to invest in a VHS-toDVD recorder and perform DVD backups while you are doing all of this ingestion work. I have been told some of these devices have electronic enhancement options on sub-menus, most do not. My ancient Panasonic E75V is old enough that it does not have any processing.

Here is a method for extracting a still from iMovie 09.
Are you working in iMovie and realize that certain frames in the movie would be perfect as photographs? Here is how to extract them...
*To get a still frame from an Event*, right-click on the frame and select "Add Still Frame to Project". The still will be added to the end of the current project. Right click on the still frame in the project and select "Reveal in Finder". You will see a jpeg file that is highlighted. Drag this jpeg file in the finder to the iPhoto icon on your dock.
*If you want a still from a project*, rather than an event, the process is similar, except you right-click on the frame and select "Add Freeze Frame", and it adds the freeze frame at the end of the clip rather than at the end of the project. Right-click/reveal in Finder, drag JPEG to iPhoto icon in dock.
*If you are not using iPhoto*, and just want to save to your desktop, click Reveal in Finder as above, then COPY, then PASTE to desktop.
Hint: If you do not want to clutter up your iMovie Project with stills at the end that you would have to go back and delete, then create a separate iMovie Project just for your stills, and follow the instructions for capturing stills from an Event.
Note: If you do not have a right mouse button, then control-click will work instead of right-click.

Note that Reader (11 or otherwise) cannot show/hide pages that are templates. Reader 11 can spawn new pages from templates and delete any spawned pages, however. It also supports spawning a template by overlaying it on an existing page.

AS it stands now, in order to use the calculator that comes with the Dashboard, you cannot read from a list of numbers in, lets say, word or excel. Stop using the same apple id on all your devices. Each person should have their own. You can still share apps via home sharing.

I've been banging my head on this one for a couple days with no luck.
It looks like this used to be possible via AEGP_GetDynamicStreamFlags but the SDK docs specifically states that it no longer works as of CS5:
AEGP_DynStreamFlag_DISABLED A read-only flag. Indicates whether the AEGP_StreamRefH is grayed out in the UI. Note that as of CS5, this flag will not be returned if a parameter is disabled. Instead, check PF_PUI_DISABLEDin ui_flags.
I can't seem to figure out a way to get access to ui_flags from an GP plugin. The only time I've seen it available in the SDK sample projects is from within an Effect.
Is there a way to get an instance of ui_flags outside of the effect itself?
I also tried using Javascript to do the work, but the call always returns true regardless of the parameter's state:
app.project.item(1).layer(1).property('Effects').property(1).property(1).enabled;
Any suggestions?

I had tried using AEGP_GetEffectParamUnionByIndex and forgot to mention that in the original post, oops!
After you suggested it, I looked over it once again, but still couldn't find any promising/useful attributes.
It seems that the structs returned within the union don't have a parking spot for the ui_flags. I double checked this in AE_Effect.h, and it matches up with what I'm seeing in the xcode debugger.
Heres one example (Checkbox rom AE_Effect.h):

i use to have FF4 and i was able to download the plugin for Cuevana.tv but now that i have updated to FF5 the plugin it no loger compatible. Is there a way for me to force this plugin somehow or how can i go back to FF4 so that I can keep watching Cuevana.tv until they update the plugin.

ICE is there a way to allow my client to make External URLs open in new tabs?

I have a set my client's site up with lots of editable regions so they can manage content. Although the InContext editor is great for letting my client link to internal pages, documents and external pages I couldn't find where they would select the external URL to open in a new browser tab. Obviously I can go back in and add the html to their links but is there a way they can set the target?

The sessionstore.js file only exists while Firefox is closed. During shutdown, Firefox writes out that file based (I think) on recovery.js as of that point. When Firefox starts back up again, it reads sessionstore.js and deletes it. So if Firefox is running, it's normal not to see sessionstore.js. Anyway, sessionstore.js is going to be empty now.
Shadow Explorer might already have done this for you, but just in case...
You could try the previous versions feature. This is harder to get to on Windows 8 and 8.1, but I have read about a roundabout way. I can't test this myself, but here's what you do:
Let's say you have a Windows Explorer window open to your current Firefox profile folder. This is something like (with your username and semi-random profile folder name):
C:\Users\''username''\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\blahblah
Click in the address bar and change the C: to
\\localhost\c$
to yield (with your username and semi-random profile folder name)

Is there a way to persuade my machine to make 3 letter file extensions?

I have been having a frustrating time trying to share images exported from iPhoto, created with Grab, etc, as they all seem to make 4 letter file extensions (.jpeg, .tiff) which the illustrious Windows cannot read, and I am tired of changing them manually.
Is there a way to change either Finder settings or individual Apple software settings to ONLY export the more universal 3 letter file extensions?

Yes, of course. This is where I have noticed the problem. Emailing directly from iPhoto the images are tagged .jpeg, however if they are saved to a folder, then 'attached' ticking the box for 'Windows friendly attachments' in Mail, then it works. but I have not found a direct way to do it.

i want to use OSMF plugin for the captioning. i created object of media element with metadata for captioning plugin so eventually i get object of CaptioningProxyElement type from mediaFactory , than i pass it to the source of videoDisplay> in source setter of videoDisplay setUpSource() is called . in setUpSource the type of source is checked and videoElement is created and assinged to videoPlayer( of type MediaPlayer) according to the source type.The problem is that my source is of type CaptioningProxyElement (extended from MediaPlayer) so setUpSource ignores it , eventually not assining it to videoPlayer. i can't extend VideoDispay and override source either , since videoPlayer is of type mx_internal , it's not accessible .

Is there a way to change AU plugin presets via MIDI?

Unfortunately the internal preset system of a third party plugin that i use isn't accessible for MIDI mapping. So i just figured out i could use Mainstages own plugin preset handling. I need to control the "next preset" and "previous preset" buttons in the generic plugin header via MIDI, but to my surprise it doesn't show up anywhere as a possible mapping target, nor can i just use program change messages. Neither for built in nor for third party plugins.
I know in Logic the preset changing is easily accessible for MIDI, so why isn't it in Mainstage?
Changing presets would be way more efficient than adding tons of extra patches or sets that complicate the whole concert, so i am happy about any advice.

Is there any way to install a plugin without admin rights on windows 7

Hi all,
I've developed a plugin for adobe indesign cs5. I was able to install my plugin(by creating .msi file) into indesign plugins folder, when extension manager is opened as administrator.
I just want to know, if I can install the plugin without admin rights.
FYI: My plugin will add a link to File menu on menubar of the indesign application, clicking which will execute the scripts.
Please let me know if you want any other information.

InDesign will load plugins from the path specified in the PlugInConfig.txt file in the user's InDesign preferences directory, which does not require administrative privileges. See "Using PlugInConfig.txt" on pp.12- of the "Getting Started with the Adobe InDesign CS5 Products SDK" (getting-started.pdf) in the SDK. Specifically:
Using PlugInConfig.txt
1. If InDesign is running, exit it.
2. Create a text file named “PlugInConfig.txt” in the InDesign preference directory, and enter
the following text into it:

Is there any way to tell Lightroom not to make subfolders?

Okay I'll try to explain what I'm trying to do: On my external drive is a folder called Digital Photos and inside that is two subfolders; RAW Files and Final Versions. Then there is another folder on my drive called New Photos RAW Files. What I've been trying lately is when I'm done shooting some new photos I transfer the new ones to the New Photos RAW Files folder.
Then I start Lightroom and tell it to import the photos from the New Photos folder into the program. What I would like to be able to do is tell Lightroom to rename these new photos with my naming scheme I came up with and store then in the subfolder RAW Files which is in the Digital Photos folder.
But I noticed that Lightroom likes to always create new subfolders for you. So what happens is Lightroom renames the new photos and puts them in a subfolder named 05-15-2001 (or something similar to that) and that folder is placed inside another folder called 2011.
I don't really need these subfolders being created so I was wondering if there is a way to tell Lightroom to simply take the new photos and after you rename them simply place them in the RAW Files folder which is inside the Digital Photos folder.
I hope I've made myself clear and I admit I'm just a newbie at this and it's hard to get the hang of this powerful software.

It appears I have figured it out. You gotta go down to where it says Destination and tell Lightroom to Organize into One Folder.
