Is there a way of grabbing the name of a shape layer without referring to it specifically?

similar to 'thisLayer.name', is there a way of being able to grab the name of a shape layer without referring to it specifically?
I'm wanting something like 'thisShape.name' rather than having to define it as content("this shape name")
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

Thanks for replying Dan, you're right, I should provide more context.
I want to be able to duplicate a shape inside a layer a number of times, and with every duplicated shape, I want that shape to evaluate what number it is (based on a name I give it so I could name it '1' and then use something like 'eval(propertyname)' to return a number or perhaps use an index to count the number of shapes in the layer) and multiply that number by some set of rules that I can define and control through a list of expression controls on another layer. This would allow me to duplicate a square 10 times and have each square's position do something like
x = thisShapeNumber + shapeLength * TranslateExpressionControl;
y = 0;
[x,y]
which would form a long line of squares for instance. Does that make sense?
thanks in advance!

but it seems there is no option in oracle it self which can be used as there they are saying to get a data masking software which we can't due to some internal issues....I would not say that. How one implements masking depends entirely on the requirements that need to be met.
For example, schema A owns all the tables. Schema B can be created as a "trusted" schema - in other words, schema A trusts schema B and allows it full access (with grants) to its tables. Schema B implements data masking as views. For each table in A, a view exists in B that implements the required masking. B can now grant select access on these views to user C. User C will see the same data object names in B as it would have if it used A - only, by using the B data objects it uses masked data objects and not the original source data objects.
Another example - schema Dev is to have all the data objects of schema Prod, but masked where needed. One can use CTAS (Create Table As Select) to create the required tables in Dev with masked values where relevant. This Dev schema can be "refreshed" on weekends by dropping all tables and getting a new fresh copy of production data and masking it - ready for the next week's development cycle.
If the application use is for example APEX, then instead of coding SQL directly as reporting regions to display, a function is used instead. APEX supports reporting regions where it calls a function and this function provides the APEX run-time with the SQL to execute and contents to render. It is easy to use this approach to implement logic in functions that masked column data depending on who the APEX user is, the security/role attributes of the user, and so on.
No there is not a single "+mask this column!+" feature in Oracle.. but that does not mean that such a feature is not supported and cannot be implemented. Oracle has a very comprehensive and rich set of tools - more so than most (if not all) other RDBMS products.
It is up to the architect/designer/developer to use this toolkit in creating a system that meets the specific requirements at hand.

  • Is there a way to modify the name displayed in the Title Bar at the top of the Audition Window?

It's not uncommon for me to have a copy of Audition versions 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 all open at the same time if I'm doing some editing for a complex project.
It would be handy for me to quickly see which window I have open without having to recognise the icons of the different versions.  At the moment, each Title Bar just displays the Audition icon and the words "Adobe Audition".  I'd like to add the version number to the name, if it's possible.  I'm happy to edit the Windows Registry, if that is what is needed.
Does anybody know where the Title Bar information is stored?

I have an answer you might like Howard.
You could simply export one title to a PRTL file, then duplicate it using an Excel VB macro to change the name of the file based on a list in an excel file. You could type in a couple of dates, then just drag down to the 365th row and all of the dates would be there waiting for the macro to rename the file. Then, if you are really talented, you could find the appropriate text in the XML file and change it to match the name of the title, but without the PRTL extension.
That way the font and position and style would all be right and the effort would be in a file you could share with the world.
Hmmm. I might have to try that myself one of these days. Could come in handy. If you are more comfortable with Word than Excel, create the dates in Excel and paste them into a table in Word. Just be careful not to mess up the
Edit: Oh, and of course, you import the titles back into Premiere Pro.

  • Is there a way to change the name of audio device inputs/outputs?

Hi there hope someone can help me. I use my macs primarily for music production and I have several audio cards both USB and PCI on my MacPro and I use external audio cards with my MacBook Pro both running Mountain Lion. As I have many different outputs I would like to rename them from their defaults, in other words I would like to rename "Headphones" to "Studio Monitors" and so on.
I have created Aggregate Devices which almost works as a solution as its possible to name them easily. The problem is with an Aggregate Device, the system Volume Control becomes greyed out and I can no longer change the volume using the Apple Keyboard.
I'm hoping that someone might be able to tell me which system file holds the names for the Audio Inputs and Outputs so that I can basically apply a bit of a hack to change my inputs and outputs to something a little more transparent? I don't mind applying tweaks to plist files etc as I have done this numerous times in the past to tweak some aspects of OS X.
The other solution would be to tweak the Aggregate Device settings to enable the volume control. Either option would be great especially when I am working on projects with friends who would be able to choose to listen to audio on a different set of monitors or headphones without having to ask me constantly which output is which.
    All help appreciated!

These directions may be useful in the future but I was wondering how to change the actual name of the computer.
You know when you log into your iMac and then it loads all of your preferences?
Well at the very top of the login box, there is the name of your computer, I want to change that.
Not short names for Home folders.
    Thank you though...
    Any other suggestions or solutions?

  • LR2 Export Dialog- is there a way to automate the name of a subfolder?

    Hello All,
I wonder if anyone knows a way to do this-
I am trying to export an image out of Lightroom 2 (Mac), and have it saved in a dated folder on my desktop.
I can manually input the name of the folder in the "Put in Subfolder" field to (for example) "25.9.2009",
but what I would like to do is place a token or an OS command in that field that will automatically write the name of this subfolder to today's date.
Any help, or ideas would be most welcome.
    thanks,
    Nati

Not possible, at least with LR's standard export module. Some export plug-in might be able to do it.

  • Is there any way to change the name of my home folder?

It's called 'kristixhill' - I was recently married and want it renamed. Any suggestions?

    Congratulations on getting married!
There's a method described [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428]. Bascially it involves logging in as the "root" user and making a new home folder with the name you want and then creating a new user with the name of that new folder.
Make sure you backup your data before doing this.

  • Is there a way to list the 'names' of the IMAQ images in memory?

looking for a way to generate an array of strings that contains the 'names' of all the IMAQ images in memory. I'm doing some heavy image processing and the nature of the image processing functions makes it easier to work with multiple copies of images to avoid nasty surprises (like images declared one type being unexpectedly recast as another). Unfortunately, this means drawing dozens of wires everywhere to image disposal points, which does nothing but add clutter to the block diagram.
I'd like to be able to poll the images in memory and delete only those images which are no longer needed.
    Thanks,

    Root,
You could use IMAQ GetImageInfo to get the name of an image.  If your image references are stored in an array it would be easy to generate a list of image names using IMAQ GetImageInfo in a For Loop.
    Hope this helps,

  • Is there a way to calculate the area of a shape?

I work in toy packaging and the size of the warning we have to use is dictated by the size of the package. On most items, it's pretty straight forward, LxW... But that doesn't always work, as the packaging isn't always that simple. Is there a way to get Illustrator to give me the area of a shape?
    Thanks!

    Jacob
It worked very well - great stuff!. I am a physician and I am working on cardiac MRI.. such as calculating the heart function using slices of heart images in systole and diastole (when the heart is squeezed or full of blood).
.. we can write a little medical paper comparing really pricey software (GE, Siemens, Medis you name it..) with this method for people with not too many pennies in their pocket. The advantage of using Illustrator is that you can blow up the images up to the point of loosing resolution, and trace the margins of the heart with an accuracy that would make any GE guy cry for his mama..
I thought even a cm further.. for simple-minded people (such as physicians for example) one would like a way to input the area of one slice directly into an equation. For example would be a way to create a routine that would take the number of the area of one slice and input it in this equation? Such as to create a little square where you put the slice, you trace it and then the program takes that number and pitches it in the equation without you writing it down on a paper.
    thanks again!

  • Is there a way to read the RTE version of an executable without opening it?

    All,
I'd like to find a method of determining which runtime engine is needed to run an executable programatically.  I'm working on an auto-updater program and have read dozens of forum posting on the topic.  I've found the Application property node for version number in the DevEnvr, and the FileVersionInfo.VI to read the build version number, etc. in the RTE.  The coding for updates within the same RTE is done and works fine.
The one thing that is absent from all of the postings is a technique to determine the RTE needed to open and run an executable.  Is one out there?
I've already got the code working to install the new version of RTE, but I'm at the last (skipped earlier) step of determining when that is needed.  Right now I've resorted to writing it in the build properties version information description and parsing it out.  I fear this flimsy work around could be easily missed on the next upgrade if someone doesn't read the documentation and include it.
I just found this Idea Exchange  which looks like a suitable solution is going into NI R&D as of a couple days ago.  But until that is released, is there a more robust way of determining this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Here's a recent thread about this:http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/LabVIEW-Version-of-Built-Executables/td-p/2162718

  • Is there are way to make the orange star-rectangle shape symmetrical?

In the tutorial, after joining the orange rectangle and stars and going back in to reshape the points, is there a way to make sure the shape is symmetrical (such as just by changing one side and then automatically applying the same angles to the other side)?

    Lysie,
Without knowing anything about the tutorial or the specific case, but presuming symmetry to start with and that you wish to move individual Anchor Points on one side and have the mirrored movements on the other side:
Normally, when you wish to create something mirrored, you work with half the shape and have it reflected (which can be done live), but when you have both sides already, maybe it is better to mirror by repeating.
For each set of Anchor Points, you may (after initially deselecting):
    1) With the Direct Selection Tool ClickDrag the Anchor Point to a new position on one side;
    2) Click the corresponding Anchor Point on the other side and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+M (Object>Transform>Move) keeping the values and only changing the sign for Horizontal (from + to - or - to +).
If you need to move the same Ancjor Point multiple times, perform both 1) and 2) each time.

  • Is there a way to add an expression to a shape layer's individual groups?

See the screenshot below to see what I'm working with. I want to add a slight wiggle expression to each leaf to give it some life, as if there's a calm breeze. Is there a way to do this?

    Tim Kurkoski wrote:
An expression that links the rotation property of the groups to a master group, or a null, is a good idea.
You can also nest all of the groups inside another group, and apply the transformation to this parent group.
Also remember that in addition to expressions, there is a Wiggle Transform property for shape layers. This would best be utilized for all of your groups if they are nested into a parent group, to which you would add the Wiggle Transform.
I want each group—aka leaf—to move independently, so applying the expression to the group didn't work right for me, as they all kind of move in unison
