Is there a way to access my Mac via remote desktop from a Windows machine?

Hi, I'm lookinf for a way to connect from work to my Mac at home. I can do this using VNC and it works, but it is freaking slow! I also dont want to use the Chrome remote dekstop plugin or TeamViewer, there must be a RDP client that can go from Windows to Mac.
Does any of you have some recommendation!?
Cheers Thomas

Have you tried enabling Screen Sharing & File Sharing on the Mac?
Looks like only EDC client for Macs...

    Is there a way to access my wish list in iTunes from my iPad

    I'm asking the same sort of question in another thread. I had access to my wish list on my ipad2 but now I can't seem to find it. Dammed frustrating.

  • Is there no way to access iPhoto events via the API?

    I'm using the Cocoa API, and near as I can tell, the only way to access event data is to look at the path of photos. This seems really strange, as iPhoto now seems to be centered around events.
    Am I missing something? Is it actually really simple? Is there some backdoor to get that information? What I want is the description, and eventually to be able to edit title & description for events. This is easy for albums...grr.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Why don't you just edit the Event description, name, etc. from within iPhoto like you can Albums? You don't need to go outside of iPhoto to do that.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Is there a way to access my Time Capsule remotely when I only have a MacBook?

    I heard that in order to access my Time Capsule remotely, I need to have more then one Mac. I that true?
    I bought a TC, of course to make backups of my system, but I also bought it because I was told it could be used for 'cloud' storage . Can anyone help me out with this?
    I have my TC set up on Bridgemode as I cannot turn off NAT on the router it is connected to.
    BTW, I'm totally new to Mac (2 weeks), so please dumb it down as much as possible for me... Thx!!!

    The port forwarding set up on my router looks like this:
    I use port 8888 for both Public UDP and Private TCP Ports. Your provider may have a different port for you to use on your specific modem/router.
    The Private IP Address is the fixed IP that my router assigns to the Time Capsule on the local network. Your router likely is using the 192.168 range, so your information here will look something like 192.168.1.25 for example.
    You must use 548 for the Private UDP Port Setting and the same port 548 for the Private TCP Port on your modem/router setup.
    Once the modem/router is set up with the required information, you can try to log onto your network.
    Click the Finder Menu on your Mac on the lower left of the dock
    Click the Go Menu at the top of the screen
    Enter in the following in the address bar:
    afp://staticIPaddress:portnumber
    For example, say that my ISP has assigned me a Static IP address of 72.111.222.33
    Then, the setting on my Mac would look like this:
    afp://72.111.222.33:8888
    Then, click Connect
    You will be asked for the device password to connect to the Time Capsule

  • Unable to access Standalone VM via Remote Desktop through a VPN

    Good Morning everyone, now here is my problem.
    My company is a small software development house and we test our software on Win 7 or 8 VM's running on standalone (ie not on the domain) VM's. We are running the VM's on WS2012 R2 Hyper V and when we are inside the building we are able to Remote Desktop
    onto these VM's direct without any problem. The problem comes when we want to RD onto the VM's when working from home via the VPN. When we try to connect to the VM's via RD through the VPN the Remote Desktop Connection fails with the following alert "Remote
    Desktop can't find the computer '[Computers Name]'. This might mean that '[Computers Name]' does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to." The only way I can connect to the VM's is
    by going onto the host server and access the VM's via Hyper V manager and use it that way.
    Now when I try to connect to a VM that is running on the Domain via the VPN I connect without any problems at all.
    So my question is why can I connect to standalone VM's via RD without any problems when in the office but when I am at home via VPN I can't but I can connect to VM's on the domain without any problems? What do I need to do to make this work?
    Phil

    Hi Darren,
    I have just tested it and when at work I can ping by name a named server and the standalone VM without any problems.
    But when I connect from the outside via the VPN I am still able to ping by name a named server but not the stand alone server. Nor can I ping the IP address of the standalone VM although I can connect to a standalone VM using its IP address via RDC

  • Is there any way to lock a Mac via iPhone or iPod touch?

    Just wondering... Is there any free way to lock or logout a Mac using an iPhone or iPod touch? Maybe using an AppleScript and the Bluetooth built into both devices (when the iPod goes outside of the Mac's range, the computer could lock)? Any suggestions?

  • TS4036 i no longer have my iphone is there any way i can restore my photos, documents, & data from my windows pc?

    i need to retrieve my photostream on my pc from my iphone that i no longer have

    You can set up iCloud and enable photo stream on your pc as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/pc.html, but you will only get back photo stream photos added in the last 30 days.
    Your camera roll photos and other data and settings would be restored by restoring your backup to a replacement iPhone.  If it's an iCloud backup, it will also restore your purchased apps and other media.

  • Is there any way to access an overridden method of super class?

    class Animals
         void makeNoice(){System.out.println("General noice");}
    class Dog extends Animals
              void makeNoice(){System.out.println("bark");}
    };Is there any way to access the makeNoice() of Animals class from a Dog object
    Dog dog = new Dog();
    Animal animaldog = dog;
    animaldog.makeNoice(); // will always calls Dog's makeNoice() ie the overriden method.
    Is there a way to access the Animals makeNoice() method ? by using cast or super etc?
    Or it is not possible at all?

    Now another question coming in my mind.
    Whether any way to access a method which belong to super class's super class without using any method of class B,
    like super.super.fn() ??Isn't this just the same question again? And won't you again just "solve" it by writing some invokeSuperSuperMethod or other? This flawed design is quickly getting out of hand, isn't it? The question isn't "How can I invoke an arbitrarily deep superclass' method?" but more "Why do I need to invoke a method belonging to a concrete type at all?". If you need to do that, chances are you've misused inheritance.
    To use your initial sample code, in what circumstance would you require that a Dog make anything other than a Dog noise? It makes no sense. Point is, you have an Animal abstraction, and can call makeNoise on any instance of any subclass, and it will make the appropriate noise. By trying to use trickery to force other noises, you're doing something unnatural, and you're also depending on actual specific concrete subclasses. If you're going to go to specific classes and ask them to make their noise, what use is the inheritance? What use it the polymorphism?
    Are we heading into another "I've got a brilliant idea for a [useless language feature|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5423706&messageID=10905772#10905772], guys!" thread?

  • IPad to connect to Mac with Remote Desktop?

    Hi all,
    I am considering purchasing an iPad and was wondering if it is possible to connect to a share on my Mac to grab files or to connect to the Mac via Remote Desktop or VNC?
    Thanks,
    Ed

    That's great to hear. Since I mainly use the iBook in my family room to browse the web and check email, I am looking to replace the iBook with an iPad.
    BTW, do you know if I can redirect the iTunes library on an iPad to a library that is located on a NAS drive that would be connected wirelessly via AirPort?
    Thanks for the info!
    Ed

  • Is there a way to access the screen (headless operation) of a machine being used as a Mac OS X (ML) Server?

    I'm using ML OS X Server and so far have enabled only FIle Sharing. Is there a way to share a screen with the Mac Mini (server host) while in Server operation? What section(s) need to be enabled to do this? I can access the Server remotely using the Server app, but as yet have not configured the web app to manage the server. Even if I do, this will not allow me to run an app as I could while at the server machine's screen, keyboard and mouse. My goal to operate this machine almost full time headlessly.
    Thanks!!

    You can use screen sharing even if the Mac is headless; it's been that way for awhile now. You probably have to go back to the G3s to find Macs couldn't run headless or that you'd have to trick. I used my old G4 MDD headless this weekend; I used screen sharing and remote desktop from a 2011 Mini and 2011 MBP. I sometimes to do it with my mini Server, when I use the 23" LCD with my MBP, leaving the Server headless.
    Hmm... I noticed this as a problem when I had the Mini's combo video (VGA) output adapter plugged in to its VGA screen.
    When the monitor power was lost (due to it's plug being on an unprotected plug and the power being out) AND while display still connected without a working power source, lost the remote display, too. In that case, the Screen Sharing wouldn't work from a remote computer on the local network. Did not try unplugging the connection completely (suppose that rebooting might be necessary to see the headless mode?). Mention it here because you might also want to be aware of that situation for the future...
    Moving the plug-in to protected power for the monitor (even if off) did cure the problem and easier for me too. Checked with screen share (vnc:// connection seems to behave the same). We're probably doing the same thing, or pretty close to it. Seems I just have to completely detach the screen connection to effectively use the "headless' mode, which I didn't do. Note the specs of my Mini as below to compare with yours (it's not a new version 'server' model).

  • Is there a way to access my old Notes only? I still have my old back up but I cant sync to my phone or it will corrupt it.

    I am using an iphone 5. Recently it malfunctioned and I was told by apple that my old back up had a corruption with it an caused my phone to malfunction. Apple had to redownload the operating system. I was also told that I can not use my old back on my phone I need to delete it and manually download everything. I DID NOT USE ICLOUD. However I do have my old back up still on my mac in itunes. Question below....
    Is there a way to access my old Notes only so I can rewrite them in my phone? I still have my old back up but I cant sync to my phone or it will corrupt it. I just want to access my notes so I can type them back into my notes on my fixed phone.

    you can restore from your backup again just to get the notes. once you've restored from the backup, copy your notes into your icloud notes group or email them to yourself - basically, get them somewhere else so they're not just locally stored on the device. once you've moved your notes elsewhere, restore the device as new again like apple had you do. this will again put a fresh version of the operating system on your phone like it has right now
    there's no other way to access the notes that are in your backup

  • Is there any way to access a PDF in iCloud on an iOS device?

    No, you can only view it from a Mac that is signed into your account.

  • Is there any way to make a Mac identify as a Windows machine on a local network?

    I work for a municipal government organization. Occasionally, I am blocked by the network spam/firewall software (Barracuda) from accessing websites from my Mac, but NOT blocked from them if I go from a Windows machine -- even if it's a Windows VM running on the Mac! The reason given is usually because the sites are identified as "shopping".)
    My suspicion is that, since AFAIK I am on the only Mac on the city's network that is NOT in one of the school department's computer labs, that there is a setting on the server side that is set to assume that any Mac is a classroom machine and that the user is a minor. (***PLEASE NOTE*** Before anyone says anything, he sites in question tend to be free font or free graphics sites and ARE actually work-related, since I have no budget for fonts or stock photos... Keep it clean, you! <gr>)
    I know that there are ways to spoof a browser, say, on the web, but is there any way to do this directly on a local network? More to the point, if it IS possible, is there a way for ME to do it from my end rather than putting in a request to the MIS **** Desk to do something at THEIR end?

    Try this, UneasySilence.com has a guide on how to use SheepShaver to run Mac OS 9 on an Intel Mac.
    http://www.gibix.net/dokuwiki/en:projects:sheepshaver
    "Who said you can't use MacOS 9 because you have an Intel Mac? It is completely possible with a little bit of tinkering, and a really cool universal application called Sheep Shaver, which came to us via a tip from Kazaki. Sheep Shaver is a full speed 'Classic' emulator for Windows, Linux, and Intel based Macs, that runs older MacOS's at shockingly full speed!"
