Is there a way to auto-refresh photo slideshow contents?

I'm trying to create a slideshow on ATV that contains photos of an event like a party as I add the photos to iPhoto.  I'm using an Eye-Fi card in my camera which will upload photos as I take them into the iPhoto Auto Import folder.  I've then setup an iPhoto smart album named Todays Imports and I point my ATV to that folder and start a slide show.
ATV will pick up all the photos as of the time it connects to my library but it won't refresh from my library until I stop iTunes and restart it and reconnect to my library.
It would be great if I could have a setting in ATV that says to periodically refresh the photos from the library while the slideshow is running.  Then I can pass the camera around during the party and as people take pictures they would show up on the TV's slideshow.

There is a workaround for this kind of thing.  Not exactly elegant, but it does the job.  I, too, prefer to keep a Reference library on a NAS, rather than keeping the library and originals on the system volume in Pictures (iPhoto default).  It involves using the Terminal to change a file attribute (in my case the file Modification Date, but it could be anything selectable as a Finder View option) that will identify it from the pix already imported into iPhoto from an existing directory.
What I do is keep a 'touch' folder (named '_rawPix' for me) where I copy all new pix over to.  When I'm ready to organize into existing subfolders, I follow the helpful directions from Rajesh Patel's blog to change Mod dates.  Then I organize the mod'd files into their respective folders in the Finder on the NAS.  Then I can open each folder, View by Date, drag the newer pix into iPhoto albums (ie directory equivalents), and voila...updated/refreshed iPhoto directories.
It ain't pretty, but its routine.

I just upgraded my iPad from 4.3.3 to the newest - I think 6.1.3.  I cannot find my photos and videos.  I tried a restore, but after 3 hours, it's timing out.  Pardon my ignorance on asking this question; but is there a way to find my photos?  I do nto care about anythign else.
Here are the steps I though I took this morning:
    Backup iPad
Connect to iTunes and downlaod newest version of iTunes and then newest iOS
    restart Vista Laptop
    upgrade to newest iOS
I knew somethign was wrong when it took about 6 hours to upgrade the iPad
at the end it errored with this message error (-50), but the upgrade worked
I was expecting to see all my photos but didn't see them
I have tried a restore to a back up 2 times.  The first time took 3 hours and just sort of timed out - it kept saying that there was an hour to go
I tried it again 2 hours ago and same message.
They are very valuable to me and so now I am panicking
    Your help is much appreciated

    Hi Eric Ferguson,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For troubleshooting on this, take a look at this article:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Is there a way to use iCloud Photo Library WITHOUT syncing?

The idea I had of iCloud Photo Library was that I could upload my pictures to it and access them from all my devices WITHOUT having to sync them.
At the end of every month, I move all the photos from my phone to my computer. It helps me save space and keep things tidy. With iCloud Library, I want to access all my photos, but it looks like I must sync them through iCloud, and then to save space in my phone, I have to select "optimise space for iPhone". Is there any way to use iCloud Photo Library as a mere cloud storage? I don't want to keep photos on my phone, neither full resolution or "optimised" ones. I want to put them on iCloud, and when I need them, then I want my phone to download them.
I realise I could use other cloud storage providers for this, but I have always liked Apple's integration with their own services, so if possible, I would like to use iCloud Photo Library without syncing to my devices. Just keep my stuff in iCloud, and when I tap it, download it.

    www.icloud.com.
Doesn't work well in IE8 (9 I would think is ok), but is fine in the current version of Chrome.

  • Is there any way to get my photos FROM my iPod Touch back onto a new hard drive?

My Mac crashed last Friday. First timeIs there any way to get my photos FROM my iPod Touch back into my new hard drive. The iTunes sync only goes one way from the computer to the iPod.
It syncs the photos taken with the iPod (really an old iPhone 3G without phone service) but not the folders which I synced from the old hard drive to the iPod over the past year.

    thank you for the tip.
Yes, my computer was backed up. for reasons way too complicated to go into here, these particular folders were not part of the backup.
    Thanks again for the help.

No in order to backup to iTunes, you would need to unlock your phone.
In order to import pics to your computer you would need to unlock your phone.

  • Is there a way to rename all photos in a folder?

Is there a fast way to rename all the photos in one folder e.g. I have diffreent folders say "wedding" and "birthday" with alot of photos in each. Is there a way to rename all photos in the folder to the same name like all called wedding?
Also when i open photos they automatically open with preview, do I need to impost them into iPhoto or should they just automatically save there?

Are these photos in iPhoto? If so, then use the Photos -> Batch Change command.
IF not then you can use a batch file renamer such as Name Mangler
iPhoto is a database and can only show pics that have been imported to the DB.

  • Is there a way to automatically refresh a webpage in Firefox 3.6.10?

    hi there,
I am hoping the Firefox team can help with a small problem, is there a way of automatically refreshing webpages within Firefox 3.6.10 and 4.06 beta? We are building an interesting website at the moment and the client is using Firefox 3.6.10to view the site. Each time they go onto the new website to see the changes we have done, they are shown old pages. We need to rectify this problem as quickly as possible, for our client without requesting that they refresh the page each time they go onto the site.

You can do that by changing a hidden preference.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # In the filter box type '''browser.cache''' to bring up a small number of preferences
    # Double-click on the preference '''browser.cache.check_doc_frequency''' and change its value to '''1'''
For more details on that preference see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.cache.check_doc_frequency

Is there a way to not have photo stream photos save to my iphone?  i have many shared photo streams hoping to not bog down my iphone space.  but alas the photos are are being saved on my iphone.
For example.  When I share a photo stream with my dad and brother and mother all the photos they are putting in the shared photo stream are taking up space on my iphone!  I'll be out of space in no time at this rate.

hi, this thread already deals with the issue:

  • Is there a way to save a photo I found on the Internet to my photos on my iPad mini? It only lets me save to my homepage, which I don't want to do. Please help!

Is there a way to save a photo I found on the Internet to my camera roll photos? Here is my dilemma, I control a company's Facebook page and like posting cool photos, however because the business is just one of my pages I cannot simply post it to Facebook. On my laptop I normally do save as and choose from photos to upload, but it seems as though I cannot do that on my iPad mini.
I am also a brand new apple user.

To save an image while in a browser like Safari tap and hold on the image until a Save Image choice appears. Tapping on Save Image will put the image in your Camera Roll.

  • Only an exclamation point shows up when I click a thumbnail in my iphoto folder. Is there any way to recover these photos by using the thumbnails?

Only an exclamation point shows up when I click a thumbnail in my iphoto folder. Is there any way to recover these photos by using the thumbnails? Please help. Thanks!

That exclamation mark is displayed when iPhoto cannot link to the original file.  First make sure you are running a "managed" library by checking iPhoto's Advanced preference pane to make sure the checkbox to copy files into the library during import is checked.
If it is checked you can try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Is there a way to get my photos off an old time machine backup from an external hard drive?

Is there a way to get my photos off an old time machine backup from an external hard drive?

You will have to connect the Time Machine HDD and click on the Icon.  You will see one folder called Backups.backupdb.  Click on that and you will have to continue until you find the home folder.  The iPhoto library (where the pictures are, not the application) will probably be in your pictures folder.  You will have to drag that to your desk top.  Then you will have access to individual images.
    Ciao.

  • HT2477 How do I select multiple images without clicking on each one? Is there a way to select duplicate photos to delete them?

How do I select multiple images without clicking on each one? Is there a way to select duplicate photos to delete them?

Consider adding the delete symbol to the Finder window tool bar.  This way you can highlight all the photos you want to delete at the same time then hit the "delete" symbol.
Open a Finder window/View/Customize Toolbar - follow the directions in the customized pop down window.

  • Is there a way to erase duplicate photos in iPhoto?

Is there a way to delete duplicate photos in I photo in bulk?

As long as you're seeing the duplicates via the iPhoto window and not the Finder these applications will identify and help remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported the library.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR
Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: iphoto has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but there are only twp apps that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates:  PhotoSweeper and Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

  • Is there a way to delete duplicate photos in iPhoto? I have approx 10,000 duplicates?

Is there a way to delete duplicate photos in iPhoto without having to delete them individually?

The real question is how this happened - iPhoto is very good about avoiding duplicates and since you have a very large number it must be the result of a user error
Why do you think you have 10,000 duplicates? How many photos total do you have?  Just making a guess I suyspect that sometime you moved to a new system and imported your old library into the new library - Hint - NEVER import an iPhoto library into another Photo library - it does not work and creates a massive mess.  If you  did import an iPhoto library into your current library the best solution (assuming teh old library is still available) is to drag the bad library to the desktop (if you have space to continue it is best to delete it later after everything is done and tested) and Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
Even if you eliminate "duplicates" - in the suggested case they are not duplicates but different versions and at best you lose all edits and non-destructive editig done and are starting with original photos - not really good
