Is there a way to Black and Code HDV tapes?

I'm running FCP Studio 5.0.4.
I'm trying to stripe some HDV tapes for an upcoming shoot. I've set up a project using the 1080i60 Easy Setup. I have my Sony FX-1 set to HDV record mode and HDV input. When I go to Edit to Tape and hit the Black and Code icon, a dialogue box pops up giving me a dropdown menu from which I can choose the 1080i60 setting.
After the warning that I'm about to erase the tape with black and timecode, I hit OK and a status bar pops up saying it's 'Conforming HDV Video.'
All that is what I'd expect, but the estimated time for it to do this is 10 hours! I let it run for about 15 minutes just to see if that would change, but it looks as though it really would be that long. The status bar counted up to 1% complete during that time. That seems way too long to wait to stripe a tape.
I also tested doing this with Print to Video. I created an hour long sequence and filled it with slug. The same message popped up...only the estimated time was now 3 hours. Better...but not reasonable just to stripe a tape.
Any thoughts?
Other than the inevitable argument over striping tapes, I mean? : )

Its always been about a 50/50 chance of the previous footage cutting through frames of the new video when I have done this, so I never overwrite. Would overwriting black video be a safer bet?
And so the argument begins... Black is previous video whether it comes from a deck via edit system or a capped camera... either way is the same, you are laying down something that you are going to erase!!!!! If you have a break between takes, something is going to bleed through. The only reason you need a stripped tape is for insert editing.
That's why the recommendation is to not bother blacking tapes for shooting. Instead, take the time to ensure that you follow proper shooting practices that will avoid time code breaks.
As for re-using tapes... (that is essentially what you do when you black a tape before use.) Tape is cheap, why risk your money and rep by re-using tape.

Is there a way to view the code screen and the design screen in separate windows instead of connected. I would like to have the code on one monitor and the design on another

You can open the Code Inspector Window to have the code completely separate from the Design/Document window. You can also then move the CI window to a separate monitor if you like.

  • Black and code

I just purchased a Sony HDR-HC7 camcorder. In the past I have always used FCP to black and code my miniDV tapes before recording. Since Edit to tape is no longer an option with HD is there a way to lay down code short of turning the camera on record and leaving it?

    #41 - Pre-blacking a tape to avoid timecode breaks.
    Shane's Stock Answer #41 -
Pre-blacking a tape to avoid timecode breaks doesn't work. It is an urban video myth. All it does is prevent your footage from starting over from 00;00;00;00. But if you record, then stop the camera to review, then stop AFTER the recorded footage, you will have a timecode break. Video cameras don't INSERT EDIT onto the tape, they ASSEMBLE EDIT. That is, they write over everything that was recorded before, including timecode. So blacking a tape does nothing, really. Only give you better chances to incur tape dropouts as you are now recording on the tape twice.
The best option is to leave the camera rolling for a few seconds after your shot so that when you review your footage, you stop the tape while you still have an image. This way, the camera will pick up where it left off.
This goes for ANY format of camera. Ask a professional videographer if they pre-black their tapes and they'll look at you funny.

  • Is there a way to find and replace prices in an Indesign document from a CSV file?

Is there a way to find and replace prices in an Indesign document from a CSV file. Currenty I have a catalog with codes and prices in tables. I need to find a way to look up the code (and new price) in the CSV file and overwrite the price in the current table with the new price. Does anyone know of a script to run this quickly?

    Hi,
    Try this
    1) with all the images showing, got to Find -> By caption or Note
    2) enter the caption you are looking for Image Description and click on OK
It should display all the ones with that caption
    3) select a few images as a test
    4) go to Edit -> Add caption to selected items
    5) if you want to blank out the captions just check the box to replace the caption and click on ok
    6) You will need to confirm the blank captions
You could use a similar procedure to change the caption to something else.
    Good luck

  • Is there any way to upload Tariff Code (with multiple XML files) from application server?

    Hi All,
Is there any way to upload Tariff Code (with multiple XML files) from application server?. Its urgent.
    Regards,
    Jatin

    Hi Jatin,
Yes, of course you can upload multiple files for tariff codes.
This can be done by the below path:-
SAP GTS Cockpit(tcode-/sapsll/menu_legal)-->Customs Management-->Classification-->Classification Master Data-->Upload Tariff Code Numbers from XML file(tocde- /SAPSLL/LLNS_UPL101).
In the above area after browsing and choosing the first file, please select multiple check box to choose more files as well. Then you can further select your application server and upload all those files in one go.
PS:- Although, we have an option to upload multiple such files but actually we should avoid multiple file uploads due to various reasons. Hence, please take utmost care during such procedure.
    Regards,
    Aman

  • Is there a way to add Paypal code for custom donate buttons?

My website tracks donations for 4 separate programs via the item structured in the PayPal button.  Each button has its own graphic and, therefore, requires the <form action ... code from PayPal.  Needless to say the standard PayPal widget is not useful.  In addition, all of the 4 buttons are on the header on the Master pages (Main, Interior 1, and Interior 1).  Is there a way to incorporate the code from Paypal into the css pages?
    Thank you

Thank you.  I did get it figured out and put all the links in each page.  I appreciate the help.

JavaFX is compiled, so unlike JavaScript or Python, for example, you shouldn't be concerned by people viewing your source.

...More that will not fitBecause JavaFX is a scripting language, the Java source code is significantly harder to read. In some cases, my decompiler is completely unable to revert it to source code and prints out java byte code instead! Consequently, it is in a sense already obfuscated. But it is theoretically possible to simply write a JavaFX decompiler.

Is there a way to password / pass code the numbers app???

Not that I'm aware of. The iPad is designed to be a single user device, so you can passcode the whole thing, or nothing at all.
There are a few apps that you can lock out with restrictions, but I don't think Pages is amongst them. You can look in settings and restrictions and see what you can lock down.

Hi, Im not a frequent forum poster, as most of my questions can be found already answered on them!
This is a question Ive had for a long time and it amazes me that no-one else seems to ask it. I check at each OS upgrade but its never there...
Is there any way of dragging and dropping an iCal event showing in week view across to a date in the left sidebar monthly calendar?
I was able to do this years ago in MS Outlook, and utilized it all the time when I needed to push things back, now I have to open the event and select an new date in the drop-down calendar for each & every event I want to move to a new month at the end of the month.
If its definitely not possible, how to you ask apple to consider including it - it doesnt seem like a particularly difficult task.
    Thankyou
    Andrew.

    Andrew,
Is there any way of dragging and dropping an iCal event showing in week view across to a date in the left sidebar monthly calendar?
No, but you can use cut/paste. Cut (⌘X) the event, then click on the week where you want to move the event, and Paste (⌘V).
If you have a suggestion for Apple to change that method use: Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback.
