  • Is there a way to block certain websites from my computer?

A website keeps saying "This website is a threat to your computer" or something like that when I go to certain websites. I scanned my computer with McAfee and it said that the website posting that was a hazard to my computer. I can't find any antivirus software (for free) to download to my computer that works (my computer says there's an error when downloading) and when I looked at the page again it had something that said "..I.. " in it and the I was lowercase so i figured that an official page would at least have all that kind of stuff capitalized.
I just want to know how to block this website (or get a link to an antivirus download, for free, that actually works).

Really no need to install anything to block websites, you can use the HOSTS file that is in every Operating System.

Just a matter of locating the HOSTS file and learning a little bit about how to add a domain or IP address you want to block to that file.

Is there a way of hiding certain pages from the preview at the bottom of the ipad screen in ibooks author?
I'd like to only show the first page of a section in ibooks author's preview.

Thanks for your reply, Ken. I did start a separate topic for this but it didn't seem to publish properly.

  • Is there a way to exclude certain groups from my contacts so those birthdays don't show up in my calendar?

I like the birthday button in iCal, but it is pulling in birthdays from every contact that I have a birthday for in my addressbook.  I have a sub-group that all have birthdays, but I don't want to see those birthdays in my calendar as they are not a group of people I have to deal with on a regular basis.  I don't want to delete those birthdays and lose the data, but I don't want to see their birthdays in my calendar (over 400 people).  Is there any way to exclude certain people's birthdays from my address book?

The birthday calendar lists all contacts that have a birthday listed in the birthday field.  You would have to do something like cut and paste this data into the notes field of the contacts you wanted to exclude from the birthday calendar in order to keep this data without showing them in your birthday calendar.

  • Is there a way to block the hotspot from the actual phone

My stepdaughter has an iphone 5C.  We are on a family share plan.  I just checked her data and it's showing she has used 8.2G of data.  When I asked her about it, she stated her mom has been using her hotspot .  I called ATT to see what could be done and they said my only options are: put her on an individual plan that does not include hot spot access, or pay for smart limits.  Is there any way to disable the hotspot from both the kid and her mom?
    FRUSTRATED!!
    Thanks!

You can install the plugin [https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/1865/ Adblock Plus] and then block the image (Right click > ''Adblock Plus: Block image...)''

  • Is there a way to delete some numbers from the "my recents" without deleting all of them?

Is there some way to delete only some of the list of "My Recents" while retaining some of them? It seems that to delete some all have to be deleted.

That tip worked perfectly. It's strange that Apple phone help, even when I was transferred to "the highest level of help", said it could not be done, that it was either all or nothing when it comes to deleting "My Recents" call history. What kind of bozos do they have working there? If Jobs was still alive, he would fire those clowns who claim to be the highest level of help when they don't even know enough about their product to give good technical advice. Thanks again.

  • Is there a way to block add-ons from being installed in Firefox, even add-ons coming from 3rd party sites?

I work in a small call center and I have been working on trying to convince IT and management to use Firefox on the computers on the call floor. The main issue I have been having in convincing them, is that you can't block add-ons and things like that as easily as in IE. I thought I had it with blocking addons.mozilla.org, which wouldn't allow access to Mozilla's add-on site. However, with that, techs would still be able to go to 3rd party sites, generally the creators of the add-ons, and download them there. Anybody have any ideas on how to stop this?

You can configure Firefox settings to notify you before installing an add-on.
-> click Firefox '''button''' and click '''Options''' (or Tools Menu -> Options)
    * '''Security''' panel -> place Checkmark on '''Warn me when websites try to install add-ons''' -> click '''Exceptions''' button -> click '''Remove All Sites''' button and click '''OK'''
    * click OK on Options window
Check and tell if its working.

  • Ad-blocker is not blocking Firefox ads. Is there a way to block these ads from the Firefox home page?

Whenever I open a new Firefox window there is a new Firefox ad. AdBlocker Plus does not seem to block Firefox ads. All ads are annoying. Period. Even yours. Is it possible to block these ads? Please advise. Thanks!

What is it that you are seeing. I think firefox only displays web pages, rather than popup adverts etc.
If you are talking about the new page seen when you update from an earlier version, that should only display the once. If yours displays continuously and repeatedly on startups then maybe something is blocking the required change.
    * see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone <br/>& consider changing the preference manually

  • Is there any way to copy the numbers from the iPad stopwatch?

I am doing some timestudies using the stopwatch in the clock app on an iPad mini.  Is there anyway to get the time out of the stopwatch and into notes or an e-mail?  I would like the text not just a screenshot of the stopwatch.

No, you can't. There are stopwatch apps out there that have that feature, but the default iOS app can not. I agree, it should have that feature.

  • Is there any way to block your kids from messing up what you were setting?

I gave my kids (4 years old) my ipad2 to play with, he goes in my setting and messed up all setting that I've set.
Is there anyway to prevent kids from changing your setting, and allow them to use your ipad??
I wish Apple have thought about this when they wrote IOS sofware!!

    They did.
Consider using Guided Access, as decribed on page 107 of the iPad User Manual below.
