Is there a way to change the timeout setting for iCal / Calendar in 10.8?

I have a user connected via iCal to an overworked old CalDAV server (running OS X Server 10.5.8) who was doing fine in OS X 10.6.8. The data (from a number of groups, and his own individual calendar) would sometimes take a while to refresh, but it always came down eventually.
Once he upgraded to 10.8.1, his calendars would often have exclamation points next to them saying they couldn't connect. Manually refreshing would add "Updating..." to the title of the calendar window, but most of the time, the exclamation points would come back. I did some testing with LittleSnitch, and found that, if Calendar didn't hear back from the server for 30 seconds, it would time out.
Using the same CalDAV account on another machine with iCal in 10.6.8, connecting to the same server, it goes past 30 seconds and keeps going. (Maybe the default setting is 60 seconds; I haven't seen it triggered.)
Does anyone know if there's a way to tell Calendar in 10.8.1 to wait a little longer before timing out?

It appears that the previous user purchased the Server app through his or her own App Store account. You would need to know that account ID and password to update that or any other app purchased through that account. If you are unable to get that account information, you will have to delete the app from your system and re-purchase it through an App Store account you can use. There is no way to transfer an app from one App Store account to another.
Regards.

  • Is there no way to change the default setting for the save as directory

I been searching but running into a dead end, no answer.
    Thx
    Russ

Will someone, preferably from Adobe, PLEASE give a straight answer to this question. It is such an easy question and the answers seem to be bending over backwards to avoid it.
The question is: What must a Reader user do to change the directory to which Reader, by default, points when instructed to save a file?
The current default is the Windows "My Documents" directory. The goal is any directory of the user's choice.
The question does not ask how to modify or attach add-ons to Windows. It is not how to add icons to Windows save dialogs. It is simply how to adjust Reader to specify a different default save-to directory. Maybe it's a line in an INI file or other configuration file. Maybe it's a registry key. But it must be something, because Reader somehow knows how to point to "My Documents." How may the user change it?
    Thank you.

  • Is there any way to change the default font for outgoing text-messages, in "Messages"? (OSX 10.10)

Is there any way to change the default font for outgoing text-messages, in "Messages"?
I can change it for one conversation, but then it resets to the default, tiny font.
The preferences menu only lets me change the conversation font.
    (OSX 10.10)

    Hi,
As you may remember there used to be a Messages pane to the Preferences where the Font and colour of the Balloons or background and the Font text colour could be changed.
And there was a Format Menu for character, word and Sentence changes in the current IM or iMessage.
Those have gone in Yosemite's version of Messages (Despite it retaining the designation of Messages 8 the same as Mavericks' version).
All that can be done now is set the size of the font and this has been moved to the General Section of the Preferences.
The Yosemite version has also been fixed to using the Balloons style of send and receiving any type of messages as well.
Changing the Font would involved editing the Balloon.transcript file.

The app developer chooses the alert sound, or provides a way for you to change it.

IS THERE A WAY TO CHANGE THE NOTIFICATION SOUNDS FOR REMINDERS?

Yes you can, in the sense that this is an "Alert" sound you've set for the whole Mac software, and of course this is set in System Preferences > Sounds > Sound Effects. This will change the "alert sound" for the whole Mac.
So, No, you can't change only this particular Alert sound. If you could, it would be done in System Preferences > Notifications, and your only option there is whether you want the sound or not (Chkbox on "Play sound when receiving Notifications")

Is there a way to change the alert tone for the find my iphone app? The one they use from the factory is terrible! I tried it out and could hardly hear it from 5 feet away!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Unfortunately, so far as I am aware you cannot change this tone. I must admit I don't fully understand your problem, I've tried it myself and can hear it from some distance away.

  • Is there a way to change the font color for emailing and the signature?

Is there a way to change the font color with email signature on the iPhone and iPad?
I changed the color in Word on my laptop, emailed and copied to my signature, but it converts it back to black........

Looks like you didn't get a reply on your post, but it is still a problem.  Font size is supposedly changeable via "Accessibility" in Settings, but it doesn't work.  You can turn on "Zoom".

  • Is there a way to change the default action for clicking a "Print" button on a website to open Print Preview instead of the default system printer?

When I am at a website that contains a button for printing (Gmail, for example), is there a way to change the way that functions, so that when I click "Print", Firefox will open Print Preview instead of taking me to the default system printer?

You can apply  system-wise "negative" color effect under Settings > General > Accessibility, by toggling the White and Black switch - and, in iCab Mobile (and some other, better browsers / PDF readers), its own "night mode" negative color scheme.
Otherwise, no, you can't do anything else except for asking third party app authors to add selectable back/froeground (=text) colors to their apps.

  • Is there a way to change the trackpad gesture for "show desktop?"

I find the "spread with thumb and three fingers" gesture kind of cumbersome. Is there a way to change it in system preferences to something else?

Just FYI, someone on another topic suggests spreading all 5 fingers at once to reveal the desktop and I, personally, find this FAR more effective (I couldn't do the 3 fingers + thumb either).
They also said you could use use fn+11 and that seems to work too.

  • Is there a way to change the default icon for a sound file in KN2

i have need to include dozens of sound files on each slide that will trigger as text builds. i can handle all the transitions fine but i cannot figure out how to change the standard icon for the sound file.
i would prefer to have the text be the icon, if that is not possible to have a smaller icon for the file. as i build the page i am ending up with a huge mess, icons covering text, also there is not a intuitive way to tell which sound file is which with out click/playing each file.

    Did you try:
    OracleBI/web/app/res/s_.../popbin/
    EX:

we modified the line width and a few other things. You'll have to modify all the pcxml files for all the chart types you want to customize.

  • Is there any way to change the default folder for new finder windows...

...Or even set a different folder as the "home folder"?
I am recovering from an incredibly messy archive and install which refused to allow me to save my old user accounts, instead moving them all into "Previous Systems". In my haste to get the machine working again I just dragged and dropped my old home folder into the /users/ directory and changed the "short name" of the new account to match it. IT worked, but now I have an incredibly irritating problem. That is now indeed my home folder, as appears in the sidebar of all finder windows, albeit under my new short name instead of my old one. All my documents in iWeb, Garageband, etc are working now and default to the new folder.
However, Finder has not recognized this, and every time I open a new Finder window or anything like that it defaults to the home folder created by the reinstall, which is now locked to this account (so all the folders have a red no entry sign on them). I would very much like to tell Finder to ignore this now defunct folder and default to my actual home folder instead - is there a way to do this without actually moving or changing any folders? Like a preference setting somewhere? I know there's the "Advanced Options" pane in Leopard but I've been completely unable to find anything like it in Tiger

  • Is there a way to change the default colors for iPad apps?

I noticed one of my friends iPad 2 had a different color scheme for apps and I would like to change my iPad 2's default ( which is currently grey). To elaborate, the default color for the borders and tabs in Safari are grey on my iPad, my friends are blue. Would like to change from the drab grey color to blue also but I cannot find a setting for this. All applications and Setup apps have this default color scheme on my ipad. Do I have to reset the iPad and start over with setup to achieve this? Hope not, perhaps someone can shed some light on an easy way to do this. Thank You!
