Is there a way to completely eliminate the sound clicking feedback noise?

I know there´s an option in the sound window, under sound effects that says ¨Play feedback when volume is changed" but the thing is, with that on, if I hit shift I can hear the sound clicking again, and that's exactly what I don't want (Kind of a dumb idea if you ask me). I work as a sound technician and I play sounds from my mac to the speakers at a theatre, and at times I may need to use the volume on the mac (sometimes the mixer is unavailable). I had never noticed this "play feedback when volume is changed" feature until yesterday, and I'm so used to hitting the shift key SO MUCH that I might do it unconciously at the show, and that's a risk I can't take, so for now I'm keeping the feature enabled, but is there any way to completely remove the sound so I don't run the risk of having that sound click during playback?

Well, like I said, file a feature request with them to address this.
I've actually already done that today for you, since apparently no one ever likes to fill them out and ask for changes that make logical sense.
Bottom line, if you have disabled the sound, stop holding down the shift key when you adjust sound.  Sounds (pun intended) to me like you knew already why this happens, yet you insist on holding down button combinations when you know the final behavior.  In the words of Steve Jobs... "You're holding it wrong."

  • Is there a way to completely remove the album field?

    Hello,
I was wondering if there was a way to completely remove the album field in itunes and my ipod/iphone. I don't care what album the songs are from and it is just one more thing for me to have to click through to get to songs. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

    No.

Why not go to Music -> Songs?
I like to search by artists and get a list of their songs.

  • Is there a way to completely reset the face detection?

    hi @ all..
I have some weird problems with faces on Aperture 3.1.2. In some faces are other faces showed, wich are on the same photo, but I'm absolutely sure, I've never said, that this is john oder peter or whatever. The suggestions are also completely incorrect. It feels like my faces database is corrupt.
All of the three start-options (repair permissions, repair database, rebuild database) didn't help in any way!
Is there a option to completely reset and delete all my faces and "detection learnings"? I know - I will loose many, many hours, but I don't see another oportunity to solve the problem.
    thank you in advance,
    Tetrikus

Yes there is, but it involves delving into the Aperture library. Before you do this make sure you have a working backup of your library.
In the Finder locate your Aperture library, right-click it and select show package contents.
Then delete everything that starts with faces. Although I believe only deleting Faces.db will do the trick.

  • Is there any way to completely disable the gyroscope?

    My gyroscope is messed up.
The gyroscope app shows it is going bezerk. I don't want to fix it. My only problem is that the iPhone uses it to stabilize videos, so they look fine during shooting but wobbly afterwards. My question is : is there anyway to disable the gyroscope or the gyro video stabilization Another video shooting app that doesn't use the gyro to stabilize would be a great solution too
    Thanks ahead

The M7 co-processor is a chip in the phone that collects data on your steps. It is separate from the main processor which means, among other things, that it uses less battery life than step tracking using just the accelerometer as the iPhone 5 and previous did. It does not use cellular data to track your steps. Again, it is not the app that's tracking your steps, it's the co-processor. But, no, the co-processor can't be turned off.
I'm not sure that there's any particularly nefarious purpose to which the information on the number of steps you take every day could be put. However, if you're concerned about people accessing data from your phone (and there's a lot more sensitive data on most people's phones than that), put a passcode on the phone.
    Best of luck.

  • Is there a way to securely erase the drive during a fresh install

I'm selling my iMac G5 and Powerbook G4 so I can afford a brand new Intel iMac (the 2.8GHz one). I have Leopard running on both these machines at the moment, but on the iMac G5, I want to restore it to factory settings using the original Tiger install discs (I've lost the ones for the laptop).
I would like to ensure that these computers don't have any personal data on them before they leave... is there a way to completely scrub the drives before performing a reinstall? My only other option at present is to reinstall, then use Disk Utility to securely erase all free space... but I can't remember if that option was available in Tiger.
Perhaps there's some even better way I can prepare these machines for a new user that I haven't thought of?

Ok, I found the best way to ensure that all your personal data is gone before you sell your Mac is as follows:
    1. Perform a reinstall of OS X (selecting erase and install)
    2. When install has completed, create a quick test account so you can log in
    3. Run Disk Utility and erase all free space to the required level (I chose 7 times overwrite)
    4. Perform a reinstall of OS X (selecting erase and install) and power the machine off afterwards (when you get the first setup screen.
My reasoning is that after the first fresh install, you only have OS X's files on the filesystem. Any personal data that hasn't been overwritten is in the free disk space. Disk Utility then clears that up and the second fresh install allows you to get the machine to the state you normally get a brand new Mac in (i.e. prompts you for initial setup information).

  • How can I completely disable the sound on an iMac?

I work at a high school where I am in charge of all technology on campus, as well as the position of librarian (an effort to save money by the disctrict). In the library, I have about 14 iMacs (2008) that are available for students to do research and reports on, though the computers have basically been turned into really expensive Facebook and YouTube machines. Anyways, I'm looking for a way to completely disable the audio on these iMacs. Simply muting the volume and hiding the control on the toolbar doesn't help because there's volume control right there on the keyboard. Is there any way to just disable the sound all together? Such as disabling the sound card or possibly usuing a utility or script? An even better solution would be to disable the speakers, but leaving the headphone jack enabled so if need be, a student can plug in headphones and still get sound. But I'll settle for completely disabling the audio, if anyone can help with that. Thanks so much!

One thing you might try is going to System Preferences/Sound and changing the output from Internal Speakers to Line Out or Digital Out. Line Out would be for headphones. I assume it keeps this setting after a reboot but you should test it.
Disabling the sound will also disable all warning sounds.  Those can be pretty useful.

Stellar Wipe Mac is a wiping software that wiper a hard drive beyond the scope of recovery. You can select from the software which drive to wipe leaving the OS X intact. Else, if the drive is a single partition then no software will be able to wipe without wiping the OS X. So be careful.

  • Is there a way to turn off the function in Lion that re-opens the last project you worked on in a given program?

Is there a way to turn off the function in Lion that re-opens the last project you worked on in a given program?

Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.

  • Is there a way to figure out the name behind an Apple ID?

Is there a way to figure out the name behind an Apple ID?  My oganization uses an iPad as a kiosk.  Somone accessed the iPad, changed the Apple ID associated with iTunes, downloaded a game and set a password to lock up the whole iPad.  We had to completely restore the iPad in order to access it.  When I tried to upload a new app, a different Apple ID popped up, and I'm assuming it was the person who locked the iPad and downloaded the game.  I would like to figure out who owns that account, just so we can not allow that person access to the iPads anymore.
Is there a way to do this?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Perhaps with a court order because the person committed a criminal act. Otherwise it is doubtful that Apple would violate the privacy of a client/account holder just on your word.

  • Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine?

I have a custom built Java 6 application that doesn't like Photoshop CS5 64 bit edition.  The program copies over a file from the network to the local machine and then opens it in Photoshop.  The user manipulates the image and saves the changes.  The user then completes the image and the application copies the image back to the server.  The problem we're having is: When we use Photoshop CS5 64-bit, it takes about 2 minutes for Photoshop to open the image.  The file is copied over within 2 seconds and the Photoshop icon on the windows taskbar starts flashing.  But then you spend a few minutes waiting for it to open.
Some things that I have tried to isolate the problem:
    - I found you can copy the file somewhere else, double click on it and the image will open in Photoshop before the script is able to open the file.
    - I tried uninstalling Photoshop and reinstalling just the 64 bit edition without the 32 bit installation.  The script just stops working in this situation.
    - I tried uninstalling CS5 and installing CS3.  The image opens as soon as the file is copied over.
What I would like to try next is to install just the CS5 32 bit version.  But the installer is being uncooperative and will only allow either the 64 bit version or both the 64 and 32 bit versions.  So, back to my question: Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine?

Do you mean schroot?  If so I'm not sure exactly how well that will work out, because the part that depends on python is a deamon that handles communication between the USB dongle and the Tux Droid which may mean hacking the deamon a bit so ether way this does not seem like it will be a easy task.

I am running 10.7.5 on an imac and I want to upgrade to Yosemite but I have no app store on my computer. Is there a way I can get the app store on my imac?

If you don't have it then you will have to reinstall Lion:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or Yosemite
OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it isthree times faster than wireless.
Then you can download and install Yosemite if your computer meets the system requirements:
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Filliable PDF to Excel- tell me Is there a way to export just the information typed in the fields?

I created a filliable form with over 100 sections. I purchased Adobe's ExportPDF to extract the information to and Excel sheet. However every time I upload a completed PDF it only converts the format and doesn’t capture any of the fields’ typed information. I thought that was why I named each field something when creating the form.
Is there a way to export just the information typed in the fields?

    Hi,
ExportPDF is just a convertion tool, it is not meant for extracting information out of the form.
You may want to consider Adobe Acrobat.  You can extract information from form fields via Tools> Forms > More Form Options > ExportData.  If you'd like to try it out, we offer a 30-day trial of Acrobat X Professional for Windows here: http://www.adobe.com/go/tryacrobatpro/
