Is there a way to cut a video file into pieces?

I was just wondering if there way any way to take a video file and grab a section of it, shorten or cut it up without putting it in an editor, and therefore preserving its original format and quality?
Say I took a video of something in my video camera and brought the files into my mac. (I know some cameras can do this, but mine doesn't). One of the files has something on it that I want, but I don't want the other stuff that I recorded before or after it.
It might be a stupid question, but is there any way to quickly separate the file, like you would in an editor, but without putting it in an editor?
Sorry if it's a ridiculous question.

MMaybe. It depends on the exact specifications of the media. Lots of cameras, lots of different formats, some better than others, most designed strictly for acquisition with little or no regard for post production needs.

  • Is there any way to import multiple video files into a Logic Pro X project ?

    Hi All,
Im working on score for a movie, I have multiple video clips that I need to make score for. Im wondering if there is a way to import all the video clips in to a single LPX project.
    Thanks.
    Ara

No, Logic allows only one video file per Project.
You have to edit them together in iMovie or Final Cut Pro first.
However, the common workflow in film scoring is one Project per cue, so if there are no overlapping music cues between the videos, it shouldn't be a problem
    Hope that helps

  • Is there a way to import large XML files into HANA efficiently are their any data services provided to do this?

    1. Is there a way to import large XML files into HANA efficiently?
    2. Will it process it node by node or the entire file at a time?
    3. Are there any data services provided to do this?
This for a project use case i also have an requirement to process bulk XML files, suggest me to accomplish this task

    Hi Patrick,
I am addressing the similar issue. "Getting data from huge XMLs into Hana."
Using Odata services can we handle huge data (i.e create schema/load into Hana) On-the-fly ?
    In my scenario,
I get a folder of different complex XML files which are to be loaded into Hana database.
Then I gotta transform & cleanse the data.
Can I use oData services to transform and cleanse the data ?
If so, how can I create oData services dynamically ?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Is there a program that converts Quicktime video files into Media Player?

Is there a program that converts Quicktime video files into Media Player video files?
      Windows XP

Windows Media Player on a PC plays avi and mpg in addition to the WMV and ASF files so you can either use a Windows program that generates those files from .mov format or you can use QT Pro to convert the .mov to uncompressed avi and then use Windows Media Encoder to make WMV files. Although it may be out there no one here has mentioned a PC program that converts directly from .mov format to WMV. There is a program for Mac OS that does it and I believe that company is working on a version for Intel Macs so it wouldn't be much of a stretch for them to port it to Windows.

  • Is there a way to store mp4 video files on iCloud that can be read by either QuickTime or ITunes?

Is there a way to store mp4 videos in iCloud so that they can be accessed by my IPad using Itunes or QuickTime.  I'd like to travel with only my IPad.
    Many Thanks

Yes, there are some apps that will use your iCloud storage to give you access to video. There are also other solutions such as You Tube, Vimeo or Dropbox. Apple doesn't provide any of it's own solutions for keeping video in iCloud.

  • Easy way to cut 85 minute file into 85 1 minute files?

I'm guessing it can't be done (easily) in Premiere Pro.
I downloaded VirtualDub, but all I can see how to do is set one minute segments separately. Is there a way to make all 85 files at once in VirtualDub or any other program?

1.) In VirtualDub, choose 'Direct Stream Copy' from the Video menu. This will avoid recompression of the video.
2.) Go to File/Save Segmented .AVI...
3.) Check "Limit number of frames per segment" and enter a value (assuming this is 30 fps, then that's 30 * 60 = 1800 frames per minute)

  • Is there a way to Import After effect files into motion

I was wondering if there is a way to import after effects files into motion.

    hi
no there is not. The only thing you can do is to export the layers out of AE as movies and import them into Motion. Of course you are then hard baking everything and you lose control, but that would be the same if you went to any other system.

  • Is there a way to copy referenced video clips into the iMovie library?

When I import video clips into an iMovie event it seems that iMovie uses only a reference to the file. When files are moved things get horrible broken soon. I noticed that iMovie does actually copy video clips into your library when you convert your library from iMovie'11 to iMovie'13. Is there a way to copy video clips into the iMovie library when importing them so that they don't get lost?

  • Is there a way to recover deleted video files from the finder folder

I recently and mistakenly deleted video files that were in my Finder folder, don't know why they were in there but that's another question, in doing this it also deleted them from IMovie and I have lost them unless someone out there know's different,

If you haven't emptied your trash, they should be there.
If not, they should be in your last Time Machine backup. (Or other backup.)

  • Is there a way to combine 2 avi files into 1 file?

I have video clip split into 2 avi files and I want to combine them into 1 long file so I can convert the file type (I have iSquint) and import it to iTunes and then to my iPod. The best I can figure out is using iMovie but that makes the files HUGE and it says its gonna take 170+ min just to compress it for my iTunes.
So is there an easier and quicker way to combine these 2 files, because I hate part 1 and part 2 when watching videos.

If you like isquint then you will love it's big brother VisualHub from the same people.
    http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/
It has a facility to 'stich videos together' which is, I assume, what you want.
It is not free but pretty cheap
There are lots of other features
PS I have no connection with techspansion but I do like their software and attitude

  • Is there a way to import a vector file into Ideas? Not just a photo layer

I want to import an Illustrator vector file into a drawing layer in Adobe Ideas, not just the photo layer.
Seems like it should be a basic option for Ideas and the cloud. (Have the latest ipad etc in case technical issues matter).
Any answers here, or do I need to try another app like inkpad or sketchbook pro? I'm trying to stay inside the Adobe corral if possible. Just for convenience's sake...
    Thanks

    Hi Mk111111,
I'm not finding a way to import vector info from Illustrator as a drawing layer into Ideas. So I don't believe this currently possible. It is possible to go the other way, from Adobe Ideas into Illustrator.
I created a feature request based on your suggestion here:

  • Is there a way to import a .csv file into Numbers?

Can I import a .csv file into Numbers?

Yes, you can import csv (character-separated-values) into Numbers.
If the csv file is comma-separated, then in Numbers you can try File > Open and navigate to the file and open it.
If you don't get the results you want, then try this CSV to Tabs on Clipboard Automator Service (Dropbox download) instead.
To install, double-click the .workflow package and, if necessary, click 'Open Anyway' in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
    Thereafter to use:
In Finder (not Numbers) navigate to the .csv file.
Right-click on the file and choose 'CSV to Tabs on Clipboard' under Services in the contextual menu.
Follow the prompts (trying different separators if needed).
Click once in a Numbers cell.
Command-v to paste.  The Numbers table will expand automatically as needed.
These steps are quicker and easier than they sound. Just a few clicks and a keyboard entry.

  • Is there any way to merge 2 video layers to one without exporting?

Is there any way to merge 2 video layers into one without exporting as a new QuickTime movie? I have tried opening a blank player to copy and paste into, but it always forces it to be layered, even when I change the layer numbers both to zero. I tried extracting the video layers and omitting the audio tracks. Then I saved it as a new self contained movie. I am trying to burn the video to dvd with Roxio Easy Media Creator 9's MyDVD on WIndows XP, but I am also using a MacBook with QuickTime Pro. MyDVD will only recognize one video and audio layer at a time, hence, the other layers get skipped. There should be an easy way to merge two video layers without having to export it as a new movie, which takes 2 hours for this 2 hour TV show. Thanks for any answers.

    Just closing this topic.

  • Is there any way to cut audio while keeping the video it is tied to?

ok, I have a video from a dvd i burned on FCE but the sound is messed up. I am going to be making a AMV with it anyway so I don't really need the audio. Is there any way of cutting the audio without disturbing the video it was imported with. I must stress that they were not imported separately.

Place the footage in the timeline. Click the lock key on the vidoe time line. This will place a screen looking thing over the video. Select the audio in the time line and press delete. That will delete the audio but keep the video. Then unclick the lock key and all should be well. Always remeber the "undo" option if you mess up. I use it all the time.
