Is there a way to delete songs from an ipod without having to connect to iTunes?

is there a way to delete songs from an ipod without having to connect to iTunes?

Does delete (from the iPhone) really delete the songs from the iPhone, or just hide the songs?
I normally list "By artist".  I can delete an album (by swiping on the album sidways and then pressing delete), and the album (and all the songs) don't appear in the music player on the iPhone; But when I look at music in iTunes for the iPhone, the songs are still there.
I'm confused.

  • How do i delete a song from my ipod without having to delete the whole album or artist?

How do I delete a song from my ipod without having to delete the entire album or artist?

Open the music app and select the Songs view. Swipe your finger to the right along any song and then press the red Delete button that appears.
You can also delete individual songs in iTunes by selecting a single song and pressing Delete on your keyboard.

  • New Computer, is there any way to import songs from an ipod to a computer?

My computer doesn't have the songs from my old computer so I was wondering if there was a way to import songs from an iPod to a computer, because if I update my iPod now, all of my songs will be lost.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.

  • Hard drive crashed- is there any way to burn songs from an ipod?

hi mac geniuses. my HD crashed. there is a pearl jam concert that i downloaded from their website after i went to the concert. the concert is not available for download any longer. is there any way to burn songs or transfer songs from an ipod so i don't lose this music?? as soon as i plug in my ipod to my 'new' computer, it will be wiped. thanks!

1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files (purchased and non purchased) and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

    PodView Mac Only

TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Is there any way to delete songs from iTunes and still have them on my iPod

I'm trying to free up some space on my computer by deleting some songs off of iTunes. Is there any way that I can delete songs off of iTunes but still be able to have them on my iPod when I connect it to my computer? Thanks.

    Hey there,
In order to make this possible, you have to set your iPod up to manually manage music and videos. This method can be very risky and you increase your risk of losing all your music if your iPod dies. I would recommend investing in an external hard drive to keep your music on.
For more help instructions on how to accomplish this, I would check out this older thread. Hope it helps.

  • Is there a way to move songs from my iPod to the Library?

I used my friends computer to download some music (I have dial-up) and now I want to copy some of the songs to the library. Is there a way I can do this?

hey i wanted to do that too a while ago and this is what someone told me, hope it works for you. this is also the way to do it without downloading any thing.
The manual way around this problem is to use the iPod in its alter ego - that of portable computer disk drive. Successfully tested under iTunes for Windows 4.2, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7; Windows XP Home.
    - Start with the iPod disconnected from the computer - DON'T CONNECT IPOD YET
    - open iTunes
    - open iTunes Preferences - this blocks iTunes from seeing an iPod connection; leave the preferences window up and running
    - connect the iPod to the computer, wait about 15 seconds before continuing
    - open 'My Computer'
    - Tools menu, Folder Options, View tab, enable 'show hidden files /folders'
    - open iPod icon in My Computer
    - open iPod_Control folder
    - you should see a folder named Music
    - drag this folder to somewhere on your computer hard drive
    - after the copy completes, right-click the new Music folder on your hard drive and select 'Properties'
    - clear the checkmark next to 'Hidden'
    - Close that explorer window
    - eject iPod from System tray "Safely Remove Hardware" icon. This icon looks like a small gray rectangle with a green arrow floating above it. It's only there when a removable device (like the iPod in this case) is attached to the computer. Right-click & select 'Safely remove..', then click 'Stop' in the next window, OK in the next window, and then Close to complete the ejection.
    - disconnect the iPod from the computer
    - go back to iTunes, cancel the preferences window
    - File menu \ Add folder to Library \ find that Music folder copied over from the iPod
Your iTunes library should be back in action! But wait - there's more!!
Long time forum regular Otto42 has a java script/program that can also retrieve the playlists themselves from the iPod as well. Here are his instructions and a link to the most recent thread discussing this tricky process:
This is really useful when you're pulling all the songs off of an iPod to put them back into iTunes, because you lost your library or anything along those lines. Come up with your own reason for using it.
    Download this program:
    http://otto.homedns.org:8888/iTunes/iPodGetXML.zip
(If you can't download it, try again later. The connection goes up and down a lot.)
Now, put the iPod into Disk Mode or otherwise access the iPod as a drive. Make sure you can see hidden files, then go to the drive and the iPod_Control folder and find the iTunesDB file. Copy it to your PC.
Put the copied iTunesDB file in the same directory as this program, then run the program. It'll read the iTunesDB, get all the playlists, and create an XML file for each one. Now just import those XML files into iTunes to recreate the playlists.
    Notes:
    - The songs in playlist must already be in the iTunes library. If any one of them isn't there, iTunes throws up an error when you try to import the XML file.
    - The song names, artist names, and album names in the library all must be identical as to what the iPod has. If you just copied all the music off the iPod and into iTunes, this will be the case, so it's generally not a big deal. but you'll get an error if it can't find the song in the iTunes library, so it's something to keep in mind.
    - It probably won't be able to cope with unusual characters in song names. Sorry, not worth my time to fix. Dealing with unicode is way annoying.
    - Smart Playlists get changed into regular playlists. It's possible for me to add the smart playlist stuff in there, but it'll take a while to work it all out.

  • Is there any way to get songs from your iPod nano into your iTunes library?

My iTunes library has been totally cleared but my iPod nano is full. I'd really like the music back in my iTunes library, so is there a way to get the music from my iPod into iTunes?

  • Is there a way to transfer music from my ipod to a new computer using itunes WITHOUT access to the old computer??

Is there a way to transfer music already downloaded on my ipod to my new laptop, without having access to the original computer with itunes?? It is on my boyfriend's computer and we broke up - not a good option to ask him to use his computer...now I'm worried I won't get all my music back!

    Hi,
I don't know if you can help me any further, but maybe you can direct me somewhere that will??
I took your advice from above and went out and downloaded CopyTrans, paid the $20, downloaded everything - it worked beautifully!! Everything backed up and iTunes had all my songs.
Then I guess I'm a huge idiot or just got overzealous, so I plugged in my iPhone, because I had a few purchases on there and thought I could everything in one place on iTunes. Something happened really BAD and all my songs on iTunes deleted and were replaced with the few that I had on my phone, plugged my iPod back in and somehow I must have clicked on the wrong thing and the iPod synced with the iPhone songs! I feel sick to my stomach!! Is everything gone???
I did a "backup" in CopyTrans, but I have no idea where it was saved on my computer - when I go back into CopyTrans it acts like I need to pay again and doesn't show the backup file anywhere.
Do you have any ideas or know where I can go for help - or is it a lost cause?

  • Is there a way to delete podcasts on an iphone without having them reappear on every sync?

I want to delete podcasts from my iphone after I am done listening to them, which works like a charm. The problem is that every time I sync, it download them again! For some reason the Iphone and ITunes refuese to talk to one another to ackowledge that I have deleted a particular podcast and Itunes dumps it right back onto my phone.
It's like a vampire that keeps coming back.
Is there a nice simple (Apple should be good at that...) way to delete them once and for all? I looked for a "When I delete songs I really mean delete" checkbox but there is none.
Why would they allow you to delete something if it will just come back and clog up your memory on the next sync?

    joge2013.
    Same thing here with me!!
I like to have auto download setting on my itunes so i get the latest 'Harvard Business Review' podcast. I started getting into podcats about 6 months ago and think they're great!
I downloaded them all as there is some catching up to do!
I want the latest podcasts downloaded.
Podcasts that I have listened to partly or fully gone off my iphone! and not synced back on
Podcasts that I have chosen to delete off my iphone, not synced back on (some weeks they discuss a topic which really does not interest me in my field.)
..I dont want to manually tick them all either!
    Any help appreciated!
It seems to make perfect sense for me to manage these this way from my iphone (as a podcast is for listening on the go!), yet doesnt seem possible?

  • Is there some way i can find my stolen ipod without it being connected to the internet?

My iPod touch (5th gen) was stolen. I tried to track it down but it says it is offline. Does this mean they deleted everything I had or can I still track it down without it being connected to the internet?

    No.
What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi or cellular. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • Is there a way to delete music from an iPhone without sync?

I am a long time apple product user traveling in South America. My main computer is back in the states. I desperately need to find a way to selectively delete music to make space for more audiobooks I download wirelessly and more photos. I would really prefer not to wipe my entire library.
Ps: this forum is decidedly difficult to use on a mobile...

About your only option is to create a new iTunes library, use 3rd party software to extract your music, playlists, etc. to the new library, then either auto-sync the iPhone to the new library or put the iPhone in manual management so that you can pick and choose what you want on the iPhone from the new library. Either way will erase your iPhone, so it would be crucial to extract the iPhone contents first using alternate software.

  • Is there a way to delete songs off my ipod touch without plugging it into a computer? I just sold my laptop so now all I have is an ipod touch and an ipad.

I am getting really sick of some of my songs and I want to delete them but I have no idea how. I use to just do it from my computer but now all I have is an ipad. What should I do?!

If you have iOS 5 then swipe the song left or right and tap the delete button that appears. If not iOS 5 then you have to connect to computer and unsync.

  • Deleting songs from an IPOD

New to the iPod thing, so this may be an easy question.
Is there any way to delete songs from the iPod without deleting them from my library in iTunes?
Or I guess the question is how to I remove songs (audiobooks) from my iPod?

Have your ipod connected to your computer. Now, if your ipod is manually managed, do this: Click on the ipod icon. Highlight the song(s) you want to delete. Go to Edit >> Clear (or right click >> clear). That should have deleted the song from your ipod and not the library..
