Is there a way to display only photos marked favorite in iOS 8?

I shoot with a DSLR and eye-fi SD card which sends the photos via wi-fi into the Photos app on my iPhone as I shoot. On deadline I need to quickly edit and email a few selected photos. I can go through the hundreds of photos quickly and click the heart button to "favorite" the ones I am considering emailing, but it would be helpful to then be able to refine my selection by only viewing the ones that have been "favorited." Is there a way to sort by favorite? or another way to tag or rank photos in the Photos app?

The Photos.app does only support the "Favourites" tag and no other tags.
You can see your Favourites in the Favourites album, but you cannot use this flag to refine other searches.
If you enable "Summarize Photos" in the settings, the Moments will give a priority to the Favorites, but the Help does not describe, how the "Summarise" exactly is working. So you may miss out on photos, if you use this feature.

i know that there is a button to "display duplicates" but that displays both duplicates and the original. i just want to go through and delete everything that i dont need. i have like 40 gbs of duplicates and need some space on my comp. is there a way to do this without going through the duplicates list and deleting things one by one?

How would you define the duplicate?
I use the same feature, but many times songs that appear to be duplicates really are not. For example, I might have the same artist doing the song on the original album, on a compilation of greatest hits, on a live disc, and perhaps even on another compilation mixed in with other artists. Which is the duplicate?
Also you might find that some duplicate songs from the same artist have slightly different names, and they won't show up on the "show duplicates" list.
I like to keep some duplicates, because one day I might want to play by artist, and another day I might want to play some of my "decade" collections. I decided it was easier to have duplicate songs than try to manage playlists that reference the same song.
What I have started doing to identify duplicates, and it works well for me, is I make a temporary playlist and put everything by an individual artist into that playlist. I sort by song title. That puts all of the songs that have the same name together, but by artist, and I go through and selectively check / uncheck the songs I want to sync to my iPod or not. I don't try to do my entire library at once, since it's fairly large (in my case). Maybe a process like that would work for you.

I use my slide show for work, but since updating to iOS 7 I can't figure out how to pause on 1 specific photo for longer than 3 or 20 seconds. Is there any way of doing this?

Play a slideshow. While viewing a photo, tap , then tap Slideshow. Select options, then tap Start Slideshow. To stop the slideshow, tap the screen. To set other slideshow options, go to Settings > Photos & Camera.

That exclamation mark is displayed when iPhoto cannot link to the original file. First make sure you are running a "managed" library by checking iPhoto's Advanced preference pane to make sure the checkbox to copy files into the library during import is checked.

If it is checked you can try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I have a million photos I never intend to use in a Premiere Elements 8 production. Using the PE8 "Organizer," is there a way to import ONLY videos into PE8, not photos?

I do not use Organizer, so may be missing something, but I would guess that one could Sort By, and choose File Type. Remember, Organizer is for the system, and does not reflect what is Imported for use in a Project - two different things. In lieu of Organizer, I use Adobe Bridge, installed with some of my other Adobe programs.
I would also assume that Organizer does things via folders. If one does not have any aspect set to auto, I would think that it would ONLY do thumbnails for certain folders, as directed. If one has their stills in other folders, then only AV Assets would be seen by Organizer.
Maybe some Organizer guru will have better directions for you. I am just thinking here and speculating.

Thanks. There are so many it's very hard to see which one does what. Since I edit on the MacBook Pro using Photoshop Elements, all I really need is a way of seeing the filenames, and secondarily re-arranging thumbnails on the iPad screen manually.

It might not be streaming but have you considered copying the photos directly off the iphone onto your PC? I plug my phone in via the USB cable like usual and in Windows Explorer, navigate to Computer\Apple iPhone\Internal Storage\DCIM\860xxxx and there they are. Copy & paste and you have pictures.

Not with iPhoto, but different apps have different capabilities.
There are a couple of considerations: How is this transparent image to be used? In a Deskop Publishing environment something like Pages' Instant Alpha might be useful. Or if you're trying to overlay one image on another on a photograph then some editor that supports layers would be required.
Further, Jpegs as a format doesn't support transparency so you'll need to work ina file format that does.
But if you can explain what you're hoping to do we might be able to point you in a more useful direction.
In order of price here are some suggestions for editors:
Seashore (free)
The Gimp (free)
Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
Acorn ($50 approx)
Pixelmator ($50 approx)
Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

I have a client who would like to create a banner that is 6x5 feet. She supplied me with a very high quality photo that she'd like printed on the banner. Ideally, it would fill up most of the banner. The file size of the photo is 670 mb. In Photoshop's "Image Size" window, it says that it's 12960 x 8640 pixels, 36 x 24 inches, and 360 ppi.
Is there some way to make this photo display larger, short of taking a new photo with a higher resolution? What happens if I up the resolution in the "Image Size" window?
Also wondering why this file would be 670 mb but only 36x24 inches in size... It doesn't seem to add up to me...

To print at 6' x 5' you need an image of between 290 and 400 dpi to print on a large format printer at a viewing distance of 2'. That close and one cannot take in the full banner/poster. At 4' viewing distance the "perfect" dpi drops to a DPI of between 150 and 200 dpi. Your image is going to print at an effective long-edge PPI of 180 when you double its current size from 3' to 6'.
12960px / 360dpi = 36 inches
8640px / 360dpi = 24 inches
That is a spreadsheet I wrote for such things. One should/has to take into account the viewing distance on large format printing.

My Mac crashed last Friday. First timeIs there any way to get my photos FROM my iPod Touch back into my new hard drive. The iTunes sync only goes one way from the computer to the iPod.
It syncs the photos taken with the iPod (really an old iPhone 3G without phone service) but not the folders which I synced from the old hard drive to the iPod over the past year.

Yes, my computer was backed up. for reasons way too complicated to go into here, these particular folders were not part of the backup.

Is there a fast way to rename all the photos in one folder e.g. I have diffreent folders say "wedding" and "birthday" with alot of photos in each. Is there a way to rename all photos in the folder to the same name like all called wedding?
Also when i open photos they automatically open with preview, do I need to impost them into iPhoto or should they just automatically save there?

Are these photos in iPhoto? If so, then use the Photos -> Batch Change command.
IF not then you can use a batch file renamer such as Name Mangler
iPhoto is a database and can only show pics that have been imported to the DB.

If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but there are only twp apps that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates: PhotoSweeper and Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto. None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates. IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

The "Edit Photos in" option is a bit confusing. It looks like you had only two options, iPhoto and your current editor.
