Is there a way to easily locate original files in iTunes after moving everything to an external harddrive?

I recently moved my itunes folder (everything including library and music folders) from my computer harddrive to an external harddrive.  I was able to find the library and it opens, but the music (all 7000+ songs) gives me this error.  "The song “Beautiful People” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"  I know I cannot go and hand pick each artist folder and song, but this would take me forever!  I have also changed the location via the preferences.  I know all my music is in my folder on the external drive, so is there a way to easily fix this?
My path looks like External drive--Music folder--iTunes folder...Inside this folder are hundreds of folders (every different musician has its own folder and if there are two or more cds by same artist they are within the artist's folder) and my itunes library files and my automatically added to itunes folder and several itbd folders etc.
Please help!

  • Itunes unable to locate original file for music after update. How can I find it

I am not able to play any of my music since the last update to itnes. It gives me a message that the original file canot be located but when I say locate it comes back with nothing. Any suggestions?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Is there a way to batch relink audio files in itunes?

    Hello,
My ext. HD with my iTunes library crashed (*****) and I copied the files on my iod to my new drive with Senuti. I trashed the itunes library file so it would rebuild and set the music folder in the itunes preferences to the new drive. BUT NO MATTER WHAT I DO all the files show up with the little exclamation saying it can't locate them. Am I really going to have to lose all my playlists and just dump everything and manually drop and drag the files? HELP!

  • How do you find multiple original files in itunes? Many threads no answer

I tried looking through a lot of topics that had similar problems but haven't run across an answer yet. I am trying to locate original files for itunes. The library is directed to an external HD. The files are in the HD and I can 'find' them one at a time. As with others on this forum, I don't want to do it individually. Any one know an easy way to point to the music folder for all the titles?.
I actually have the whole library on a travel drive as well and it seems to find them there. If the travel drive is unplugged, then it cannot find the original. I'm guessing that there is a path that needs to be followed and yet in the advanced prefs it is pointing correctly.

*Don't move any media* until your library is working reliably.
My experience is that you can move the "library" files (outside the red box) anywhere and provided the "content" (inside the red box) stays put iTunes will find the files. You can also move the library as a whole, "library" & "content", when nested as shown. Typically when people run out of room they follow a guide which explains how to relocate the content only using iTunes to manage the shift. This has two drawbacks, first iTunes can sometimes fail to complete the operation leading to an unstable library and second it complicates things when unxpected system changes occur.
You might find your existing library and content will reconnect if you edit the location of the iTunes Media folder in preferences to the current location, close iTunes and reopen.
iTunes 9 will work perfectly well with files in the older layout. If you "upgrade" to *iTunes Media Organisation* it should reorgainse the files, but similar caveats obtain. If iTunes crashes while moving the files about (as has heppened to others posting here) then repairing things is complicated. The automated process also fails to rename *iTunes Music* to *iTunes Media*
Again, from my own tests and when properly nested, iTunes will accept the renaming of the *iTunes Music* folder as *iTunes Media* and update the iTunes Media folder preference automatically. If that works and you then close & reopen iTunes and everything still works normally, you can try pushing an Artist folder into iTunes\Media\Music. I think it works, but I manage the structures inside iTunes Media manually & I don't have time to test it just now. If iTunes doesn't llike any step you take just put things back where the were. You can always let iTunes manage the iTunes Media Organsiation upgrade if you have a decent backup and can restore.

  • Is there a way to easily batch convert hundreds of video files to h.264, while retaining the original dimensions, metadata, etc.?

I am organizing my library of stock video footage so is easily view (show to clients) and access. I need advice for two things:
First: What is a good program to catalog footage in? I am considering using iTunes because I already have it and I could setup smart folders to easily organize footage.
Second: I would like to encode all the footage to h.264 so I can preview it in Quicktime and add it to an iTunes library. My problem is all the footage is in a wide variety of dimensions, formats, framerates, strange codecs etc. I have access to Adobe Media Encoder and Apple Compressor. Is there a way to easily batch convert hundreds of video files to h.264, while retaining the original dimensions, metadata, etc.?
I have tried using a watch folder in AME but it freezes every time I add the folder...
    Thanks for any help!

  • Is there a way to restore missing lightroom files without the original files?

I am currently trying to reedit some old work, unfortunately, I lost the memory card with all the original files, is there a way I can restore the files in LR without the originals? I figure since the program still has some of the data and can show us a preview of the images, there should be a way around this.

I assume you copied the original memory card files to HDD during import into LR. Did you later move the files or the containing folder to another location from outside LR and now they are missing?

recently "lost" a purchased song, (Plus the accompanying artwork) from my i-tunes library, after upgrading my O.S. from windows XP to windows 7.
Is there any way to get the original song back, or, at least, re-purchase it?... I tried to do the latter, (It's still available in the itunes store) but, when I clicked on the buy link, I was informed that I had already bought it and was only given the option to, either, copy the link or send it to Facebook/Twitter
I also, inadvertently, deleted a couple of default playlists (Notably recently added) while attempting to get the song back.
Can someone out there, please, help me out. with the solution(s). (preferably step by step if possible, as I'm a bit of a Homer Simpson when it comes to this sort of thing) .. Doh!! :-(

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPone on the iPhone in Settings>iCloud and wifi or cellular data is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPhone has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPhone play a sound via iCloud.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPhone and report to police and contact your carrier
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPhone (it erases it) using it.
    - Apple will do nothing

What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:
This link, Re: Help! I misplaced / lost my iPhone 5 today morning in delta Chelsea hotel downtown an I am not able to track it. Please help!, has some good advice regarding your options when your iDevice is lost or stolen.

  • My iPad got stolen and it is offline on find iPhone, is there a way I can locate it get it back or even get the serial number of it

My iPad got stolen and it is offline on find iPhone, is there a way I can locate it get it back or even get the serial number of it? I'm really mad and sad about that.

The only to potentially find is if you can do so via Find My iPhone - which will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or Find My iPad disabled on it.
If you haven't already done so then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc, and if it's a cellular model then contact your carrier.
In terms of the serial number, if you have a backup of the iPad on your computer's iTunes then you should be able to go into Edit > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences if on a Mac), select the Devices tab on that, and then hover your mouse pointer of the iPad's backup : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061
If the iPad was registered to your iTunes account you might also be able to get it from your support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/

  • I am trying to crop faces from old family group photos and paste them on to records in Family Tree Maker. When I do this, the pasted cropped image reverts to the original of the entire family. Is there a way of unlinking the original version from the crop

I am trying to crop faces from old family group photos and paste them on to records in Family Tree Maker. When I do this, the pasted cropped image reverts to the original of the entire family. Is there a way of unlinking the original version from the cropped image?

Are you copying the cropped images directly from Aperture's Browser window and then pasting into your family tree?
It would be safer to export the cropped faces as new image files to a folder on your disk, and then drag them from there to the "Family Tree" window.
To export select the cropped image versions in Aperture's browser and use the command "File > Export > Version". Select a suitable export preset from the pop-up menu, for example "Jpeg fit into ..." and select a folder to export to.
