Is there a way to fix the "carging is not supported with this accessory" warning when I plug my ipod touch into my laptop?
It's been working fine up til now, but the other day it began coming up as a warning. It also won't let me play music for very long before connectingand disconnecting my ipod multiple times....It's never had this issue before, so I have no idea what's going on.
I assume it has something to do with the update that I need to run on my ipod touch, but it says that it will erase everything on my ipod when I do it....and I don't have everything in my itunes library because I've had to start over fresh a few times...So I'm really scared of doing this update, but I feel like my ipod needs it...
Try the standard fixes:
- Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
- Restor from backup
- Restoe to factory defaults/new iPod.

This can mean there is some dirt, lint, or foreign material in the iPhone's dock connector port and it doesn't take much, or the dock connector port has damage with the pins or there is some moisture damage.

When I plug my IPOD touch into my Dell computer it comes up with Judy's IPOD, the click on where it says internal storeage then a folder comes up that says DCIM then click on that and another folder comes up 800AAAAA and when you click on that all you see if pictures. I am afraid to update the software on the IPOD I am afraid it will erase all my songs. Does anyone have any idea what the problem or can I update the software without fear of losing all my songs.
You have to follow these instructions. When they say restore from backup your iPod will also be updated.

Yes, but should be covered under the warranty of your device (or any device under warranty using that cable) just bring it into the store.

I plugged my Ipod touch into my Dell laptop and went to Itunes. Itunes told me I should down load an upgrade, so I did. Itunes said the down load would take two hours. I started the down load, but after two + hours (&longer) , after several starts and stops the down load never completed.
I recently got a (fake anti virus) virus and it damaged my computer. I got it fixed and reinstalled the software and it appears to be working correctly. Could this be the part of the problem ?
Would it help if I reloaded the Itunes (off an external HD) or downloaded it again from Itunes ?
ThanksI doubt it. For my updates, it has typically taken me many tries/retries. Like for you, the download would stop. and I would have to restart from the beginning. If you get a network timed out error try disabling the security software on your computer.

This started happening to me after upgrading to the latest software. I have 3 different cables and none work. I think Apple purposely planted the bug. As if there aren't enought problems with these things
I'm sure they didn't "purposely plant a bug." It just seems to be a problem with your device. I am running the same software, and have had no such problem.
1. Have you rebooted your device?
2. What iPhone is this? 4, 4S, 5?
3. Has your phone been exposed to water?
4. What are you plugging the USB portion of the charging cable into? Your computer, or the Apple Charger?
5. Have you "Restored" your phone to see if that fixes the issue?

I have an Ipod touch 8GB, an Imac and an apple laptop. I have had this Ipod for years and it has been synced at different times to my Imac and laptop. Recently the battery ran way down on my Ipod. I plugged it into my Imac. After it charge I had to restore it. After I restored it Itunes couldn't connect to it because, "An unknown error occurred". I tried to connect it to Itunes on my laptop and got the same error message. I have tried different USB cables. Since Itunes won't connect, I can't do another restore. I don't know what do try from here.
Some additional info that might be related to this. Just before this Ipod problem came up I crashed my hard disk on the Imac. I had to erase it and reload all my stuff (I was able to copy the contents to a hard drive connected to my laptop using the firewire - I couldn't use time machine because of the crashed HD.) My Imac has been restored to the latest Itunes - I am running OSX 10.6.8.Thanks for the help Ricky.
I did put my iPod into DFU and iTunes recognized it in restore mode. After restore I am back where I was before - iTunes cannot connect because of an unknown error.
I have installed Jailbreak to see if I can bypass itunes but haven't succeeded. I can't get my computer to recopgnize the iPod as a device.
I'll take it to a Genius bar next time I am in the area of one. Until then I'll probably continue to try hacks to get it connected.

I have a refurbished iPod Touch and it has been working fine with my computer except for sometimes there's a little delay in iTunes picking it up when I plug it in to my computer and now when I tried to plug it in to my computer it has the message that I posted in the title.

My i-Pad won't charge after I downloaded some stuff from i-Tunes. I have tried charging through two computers and using the wall socket,, with different cables. I have turned the i-Pad off & on a couple of times but it still won't charge. Any ideas will be gratefully received.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). Neither the macbook nor ipod touch are new, and I'm using the cable provided with the ipod touch as normal and so was just hoping someone could explain what might be causing this? thanks!

Thanks for your suggestions, tried all those but no luck until I tried another cable. Also found another thread on here with a similar complaint that suggested cleaning the cable/ipod connection which I've now done which seems to have done the trick-thanks again! -
I bought a new cable but still its throwing the same error. Upgraded to iOS 6 from 5, still the same..!
If you did not do a reset of your iPod please try that (you will not lose any data)

If this does not work inspect the opening in your iPod where the cable connects. Look for any debris and clean it (a magnifying glass may be required).
