Is there a way to format Safari text into a language other than American?

The other day I was mystified when the spell-checker in my Word 2011 word-processor seemed to go bananas.
Despite all my language settings in Word being set to 'English (UK)', the spell-checker kept insisting on checking my document in 'English (US)'.
It eventually turned out that the reason for this was because I had copied & pasted some text from a website into my document using Safari as my browser.
When text is copied from Safari, (or, at least, my installation of it), it seems it is always formatted in American English, and this then requires re-setting of the document's language after each paste.
I have tested doing exactly the same thing, (same text on the same website), with the Firefox browser, and I find that text from there does not affect the language settings in Word, and that all my document remains in English (UK) as it should.
Is there any setting in Safari that I can adjust to prevent it insisting that any text copied is in American please?

Yes, thanks Tom.
I was fairly sure it was thus anyway, but I did check as you suggest, and British English is at the top of the list.
I'm pretty confident that this is a Safari-specific issue; as I say, when I do the same thing with Firefox I don't have the problem.

So how did you do it?
by understand what iweb widgets do, in this case setting gridEntry widget's scalMode preference from fill to fit.
then reset the displayed image, so it fits in the display area even if it's portrait aspect.
however, i found some glitches in gridEntry widget that's quite strange... but all fix-able.
perhaps, iweb experts (whose had poked at my example) here can chime in.

  • Is there a way to buy something from an iTunes store other than my own local one?

Is there a way to buy something from an iTunes store other than my own local one?

No, unless you have a valid billing address in that country and you are in that country when purchasing from it - otherwise you can only purchase from the store that is based in the country where you are.

  • HT1924 Is there a way to purchase from another countries itunes store ( other than your home country where your registered ) ?

I am looking for a way to be able to purchase form the itunes UK store , currently I use the Australian one and tried changing my country but when I went to purchase the TV shows I wanted it said I was not authorised to use this particular itunes store? Are they not linked? Is there a way to be a more 'global ' itunes customer?
    Thanks

No, you can currently only buy from your own country's store - to be able to buy content from another country's store you need a valid billing address in that country and be in that country when buying from it. You can try requesting that the content that you want to buy be added to the Australian store, but ultimately it's the content providers (in this case the TV companies) that will have to grant Apple a license to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

  • Is there any way to format a text file while writing it in java ?

    Heyya Fellas,
I am working on a project and at the end of the process, the project should generate a report file in .txt format in the location prescribed by user. I am able to generate it and do all the processing but can i the report in a more presentable way. Like is there any method in java code so that we can make the text in the report file appear bold or italic while writing a file in java in runtime?
Please help me.. any gist or click will be a favor.
    Thanks and Cheers

Text is text, nothing more, nothing less. Any "effects" to the text (i.e. bold, italic, underlined, striked, whatever) can only be acheived through some type of markup (i.e. html markup or rtf/pdf formats and the like). The text itself can never be bold or italic.
If you are producing csv, then html style markup is a definate candidate, if you are producing reports than look into iText for creating pdf documents.I beleive dats it..
Actually i am hitting a JSP's URL and it inturn calls a servlet and then the process takes place..
and i generate the specified output file..
The files are generated and every thig is working fine but i wanted to add that extra bit of a gloss to report.
    Well thanks for the response.

  • Is there any way to make the Comments list appear somewhere other than below the active PDF?

It would be great if there was some way the Comments list when participating in a PDF Review could be moved to the right side of the PDF or in a movable window of its own. With a dual monitor setup this arrangement would allow better use of the screen real estate. This might also be useful for those who want all of the comments to be able to be printed from one file without the annoying break between each page.

Yes it is possible, just click & hold on the comments icon (two yellow speech bubbles) and drag in off the bar.

  • If there a way to restore my icloud from a backup other than the very last one?

I deleted some pics before my last backup that I need back. Can someone please help me?

Apple states that it keeps your last three iCloud backups.  During the process of restoring an iCloud backup, iCloud will show you which ones are available and ask you to select the one you want to restore (see image below).  You may need to tap "Show older backups" to access earlier ones.  The only way to find out if an earlier one is available is to go through the restore backup process.

  • Is there a way to copy/paste text in Photoshop without keeping formatting?

    Hello,
Is there a way to copy/paste text in Photoshop without keeping formatting (font, size, color, etc)?
I found this feature very annoying.
Is there a way to turn it off?
    Thanks.

You can use this simple workariound:
copy the desired text  and paste it in a simple text editor app like notepad (win) or textedit (mac).
Then copy this unformatted text and paste it in photohop.

  • Is there a way to retrieve a text message that has been deleted from my iphone?

Is there a way to retrieve a text message that has been deleted from my iphone?  I did't delete the message but after i synced my phone the message was gone.

No, the app doesn't use Safari.  The app is AutoDesk Inventor Publisher Viewer.  I think there is a way that you can have a publish Inventor file, and if you create a correctly formatted hyperlink, you can click on it and it will immediately open the file in the viewer.
I know that if you offer the file as a standard download, iOS will ask whether you want to open it with Inventor Pub. Viewer or save it to another app that can accept files.  I would prefer to skip the prompt, and just open the viewer.
I've heard mention that this can be done with this application, but I can't find reference material anywhere.

For instance, DigiDNA's DiskAid will let you extract your messages from the phone in human-readable format. Like .pdf.

  • Is there a way to make keyboard text shortcuts work better?

For example: omw = On my way!
On iOS these work accross the board, but on OS X they only seem to work on certain applications. Such as TextEdit, but have limited or no use in other applications. They work ok in the URL bar in Safari, but try to use them in a text field (such as the one I'm typing in now) and they don't work. It's especially irritating when I try to log into a website, and I can't use my custom shortcut for my email address. I can easily do this on iOS, but not OS X.
Is there any way I can get text shortcuts to behave better on OS X, or is this a hopeless dream...
If you don't know how to access them, it's:
System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Text (OS X)
General -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts (iOS)
It's great that they sync accross both platforms, but it's pointless if I can't use them on properly on OS X.

Sounds like you did this on the fly.
MM is supposed to open the Marker Panel Dialogue
    M just sets a marker
Not sure if either are intended for on the fly during playback .
There is also a Marker Icon on the Source Window Pane  >>

is there a way to download a text/imessage conversation from your iphone to your computer to print as a document?

Yes. I do it regularly to archive my messages.
Try the computer apps PhoneView (Mac) or TouchCopy (Mac & PC):
    http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
I use PhoneView and save my texts as a nicely formatted PDF. But, there are other options.

  • Is there a way to tighten a text bounding box?

    Hey all,
I've looked before but never found a definitive answer to this question:
Is there a way to tighten the text bounding box without converting it to outlines?
I work for a screen printer, and want to figure out a way to tighten the bounding box without changing the leading and without converting it to outlines in order to be able to edit said text. We deal with a lot of clients who send us names, that are often misspelled, and after an initial proof need to be corrected. Sometimes we need to center this text to an object.
Illustrator's bounding box, unlike that of Corel (which is our primary program, and won't open AI files) includes the leading below the type, so when you center it, it's not visually centered:
So I guess my real question is is there a way to get the text centered (as seen below) without converting the text to outlines, or messing with the leading, or is there a way to tighten the bounding box?
    Thanks in advance!
    -K

    Combat and Dandreu,
You may use this silly way:
    1) Tick Edit>Preferences>General>Use Preview Bounds;
    2) Select the Type and Effect>Path>Outline Object.
That will reduce the Bounding Box to the actual bounds of the letters so you can centre as you wish.
Remember to untick Edit>Preferences>General>Use Preview Bounds before you get a reverse issue.
