Is there a way to free up space without sync?
I'm currently traveling and therefore unable to sync to my desktop as I normally do. While on the road I've taken a few photos, etc., and now find I'm running out of space. Subsequently, I've deleted a couple of large apps I never use, and several old photos I know I have stored, but my iPhone is still showing as full. Apparently, the files I've deleted aren't really gone until I sync? It will be some time until I'm home again and able to access my desktop. Is there a way to free up space without a sync, or am I stuck with a full phone until I return?
You can import the photos taken with the iPhone to another computer as long as you
TURN OFF auto-sync on the other computer first. Then delete them and that should free up space for you.
You would import the photos off the iPhone to the computer just like you would from a digital camera.
THen burn them to CD/DVD.

Delete whatever files you don't need anymore and transfer data to an external hard drive. You can download and run OmniDiskSweeper. This application shows you all the files on your harddrive and what files are taking up the most space, just open the application and run it on your hardrive.

If there is a closed padlock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane, click it to unlock the settings and authenticate. Turn Time Machine OFF, then back ON. Close the window.
Restart the computer. Try the download again. -

That misleading error message can be the result of moving a download while it's in progress. Right-click the download package and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. The file you downloaded may be in the folder that opens.

I've tried downloading Windows Media Viewer, StuffIt Expander, and Adobe Reader however when I do I receive an error message as follows (example is for the StuffIt Expander -similar message for the other programs): Safari could not download the file "nstuffitexp12.01.dmg" because there is not enough free disk space.
There is PLENTY of free disk space on my hard drive. The hard drive has 20 GB of Used space and 129 GB of Available space.
A few simple fixes I've tried, that did not help: I cleared my Cache, I emptied my Trash, I restarted the computer. (sorry, I'm a Mac novice -not sure what else to try)
What's wrong? How do I download these files??
I would like to open Window Media Viewer files (.wmv) and Adobe Reader files (.pdf) so I need these programs on my computer.
So as a secondary question, is there a program for Macs better suited to open and view .wmv and .pdf files?

Thank you in advance for your assistance!!Mac OS X can open pdf files fine without Adobe's bloatware, they open by default in TextEdit - the whole of OS X's display system is actually based around pdf technology so it's easy for the system to integrate pdf tools. There are alternative tools available on MacUpdate but for reading TextEdit is fine.
wmv files should be opened with the Flip4Mac Quicktime plugin, Microsoft no longer support their own player on Mac and even supply the F4M plugin from their own download pages.
For Stuffit files (which are thankfully much rarer these days) I'd use The Unarchiver instead of Allume's fat cat.
To fix the other problem you could try changing your download location in Safari preferences, General - it may be that the location you are downloading to has the problem. You can pick anywhere you like just to test it out. -
I tried to open an Audacity file. I got the following error message: "Warning there is very little free disc space left on this volume. Please select another temporary directory in your preferences. How do I select another temporary directory?
Audacity > Preferences > Directories. You will probably need to use an external drive as it sounds like you Mac's drive is getting too full???

Im trying to burn an iDVD and its saying that there is not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets. My main hard drive only has a few hundred Mb left on it so i bought a 1 Tb external hard drive and want to know how to make iDVD use the space on the external hard drive instead trying to use the main hard drive. Yes - This is important.
Free Space - Must be on the Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk and can not be used on any other.
My safe level is a minimum of 25Gb free space - to let iDVD and Mac OS run OK.
This is due to that Mac OS X is in reality UNIX and there by needs lot's of temporary space for temp. files and so does the application iDVD. And this can not be addressed elsewhere.
So to free up space - one thing is to move iMovie Events to an external hard disk BUT THIS MUST BE DONE Right Else all can be lost ! !
• Never move or adjust any folders Named - iMovie Events or iMovie Projects - on Desktop/Finder - links will breake and can be hard to impossibly to heal. ALL movings must be done within iMovie Application (it goes for iMovie'08 to 11)
• External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange will NOT WORK FOR VIDEO - nearly everything else BUT NOT VIDEO.

I installed Windows 8 on my 3TB Fusion Drive, now about 1TB is missing from my hard drive. Is there a way to get them back without wiping my drive and reformatting everything?
No, I assigned 100GB to the Bootcamp partition. So my Macintosh HD should be still about 3TB but it only shows 2.2 TB. And when I try to put the Bootcamp partition back, it also shows that I would have about 2.3 TB combined. So almost a TB has just disappeared. It doesn't show up anywhere.
Also when I installed Windows 8 I saw about 800GB (which is most certainly my missing space) show up as Free space. Now my question would be If it is possible to get them back without wiping the whole drive. -

Download the free app My Contacts Backup and use it to back up the contacts on your device now (it will back them up as an attachment to an email that you send to yourself). Then restore your device to your most recent backup to see if it will recover your contacts. If not, if necessary you can open the email and tap the attachment to re-import the contacts you have now back to your device.
If you need to restore to an iCloud backup this has to be done in the initial setup process, which requires you to first erase your device. If you have any more recent data on your device now that is not in the backup that you want to save you'll need to do that first. Then go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings. You will then go through the setup screens on your device, and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below). Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish. -

You dont need to buy anything.
Winzip is for free. You can also use the WinRAR.
You will just notice an pop which recommend to buy an full version but this is not needed in order to unzip single packages.
As I said; install WinRAR. I use this tool too. in my opinion its better than Winzip.

You can't disable FaceTime remotely. If you activated Find my iPhone in the device, go to iCloud and Find my iPhone. You can block or erase your iPod if it's connected to Wi-Fi, but you won't be able to track it -
