You can convert songs to Mono.  First, go to iTunes > Preferences > General > Import Settings.  Under the encoder menu is another drop-down menu for Settings.  Choose "Custom" and you'll be able to select a choice for Mono.  Once that is set, use the iTunes > Advanced menu to create a mono version.  The original stereo version will remain in your library unless you choose to delete it.

  • Hi I bought a factory unlocked phone from Dubai but I'm using it in india. But it still doesn't have FaceTime option in settings . is there a way to get FaceTime on my phone without jail breaking .. Pla help guys

    Bought my iPhone 4 from Dubai even though it's a factory unlocked phone I don't have a FaceTime button in setting so I'm wondering is there anyway I can get the FaceTime with out jail breaking my device it's working on iOS 4.3.5 , I read so much about getting it after u jailbreak Ur phone u get FaceTime but can I get it with out jail breaking my device as I'm using it in india please reply guys

    iPhones purchased in the UAE do not have FaceTime installed and FaceTime will not appear regardless of where the phone is taken.
    Jailbreaking will void your warranty with Apple, may permanently render your phone unusuable, and will eliminate the possibility of getting help from Apple or its forums including this one.
    If you want FaceTime on an iPhone, sell that phone and purchase one from one of the authorized iPhone dealers in India.

  • Is There a way to Copy or Move a File Without a BLOB?

    I have a requirement for an ApEx application that can move documents, ie .xls, .doc, and et cetera, from one location to another.
    I am posting this here rather than the ApEx forum because I expect the solution might be in PL/SQL.
    Essentially, we want to build a custom document control/tracking system.
    A user creates a document, maybe Excel, maybe Power Point, and they save it in their local documents.
    In the application, the user will "browse" to the file to identify it and answer a few identifying questions like who requested the document and which customer it pertains to.
    The name of the document and the answers to the questions will be stored in a DB table, and the file will be saved to a more "public" location in its native format.
    I realize there are probably apps on the market that do this, but this is to be built in-house.
    We don't want to save the files as blobs in the database due to concerns about how DB speed might be impacted as more and more documents get added.
    So, is there a utility for moving files. Alternatively, is there a way to execute OS commands, like mv, to move the files?
    Thanks,
    Gregory

    As for the BLOB, that's the option I'm pushing for, but ultimately it's not up to me. I'll be sure to pass your comments along because I really don't think a BLOB column is going to have a significant impact on performance. If the DB has performance issues they're more likely to be related to tuning problems.I've also run into resistance in storing files as BLOBs.
    There are several factors to consider and unfortunately these seem to be ignored by some developers.
    BLOBs are designed to store binary data. It is no different in that respect than using a file on a file system to store binary data.
    Unlike a file though, you can easily add additional attribute data to the BLOB. You can secure access to it via custom means (fine grain access control and virtual private databases come to mind) that is usually impossible to do with a file system.
    Access to that file needs to be via the o/s - and that is a problem for client-server as it means requiring some kind of server s/w to sit between that o/s file and the client to manage access. E.g. NFS, Samba, FTP, etc. All these have very specific security controls - most of which do not neatly fit the security model designed for the application layer.
    A BLOB instead is access via the database - using the same protocol and session and security that the client uses to access any other database data.
    Performance wise.. bytes is bytes. Reading a BLOB from a database will not be slower than reading a file from the file system. A BLOB is not going to take up more space (it may actually have a smaller space footprint, depending on file size and block size).
    There are numerous advantages - as a BLOB is accessed via the same concurrency controls as any other database data. In comparison, how do you deal with transaction and concurrency controls from a client that accesses a file via Samba/Microsoft Networking?
    The list does not stop there. There are also auditing to consider, and the management and ease of backup and restore, portability (a BLOB in Oracle can be accessed from any Oracle client and does not need additional and specific s/w to support that particular server's means of sharing o/s files), etc.
    IMO, the so-called cons about BLOBs are often just ignorance on the part of the developers. Ignorance about client-server architecture and ignorance about the feature set BLOBs enjoy in Oracle.

    If you can access your photos from a Finder window, You can drag and drop them into an iMovie Project from there. Just make sure they are in a stable place, because if you move them later, iMovie will not know where to find them.

  • Is there a way to get back a previous iTunes backup file than the most recent Backup?

    I did a manual backup and wanted to restore the iPhone, but iTunes forced me to update the iPhone before allowing me to restore the iPhone...
    After updating, I realised that iTunes created a backup automatically without confirming with me, and now the latest backup file is not the one I wanted.
    Is there a way to get back the backup file I manually backup?

    Is there a way to get back a previous iTunes backup file than the most recent Backup?
    No, to the best of my knowledge the device backup area is simply updated with new information each time the device is backed up so there are no previous versions preserved. Once a backup has been used to restore a device however it gets locked and dated so that you could return back to that snapshot at a later date.
    Your manual backup should have simply updated the backup with any new data since the last automatic backup. Upgrading should not have overwritten a backup taken just before the upgrade with a, presumably, empty state. Have you actually tried to restore the current backup that is available? It may have what you want after all. You might like to try backing up the current state of the device to iCloud first, or if you have access to another computer back it up to that.
    N.b. I always disable automatic syncing of devices so that I am in better control of when data starts to be written, and in which direction it flows.

  • Is there a way to get the actual XML string when using the JAXP SAX Parser?

    Hi All,
    I am using a JAXP SAX xml parser and am looking for a way to get the actual line of xml that is being parsed from within a content handler.
    Here's my scenario. Consider the following example xml document.
    <formCollection>
       <form name="myForm">
          <text/>
          <selection/>
       </form>
       <form name="anotherForm">
          <text/>
       </form>
    </formCollection>My hope is to validate the entire document and then insert an xml string containing each "form" element (and its sub-elements) into a map for later use. My thought was to create a String as each "form" element is being parsed (begining with the form's startElement event and concatenating until the form's endElement event is reached) and then inserting this string into the map. Is there a way to get the actual line of xml that is being parsed, rather than just the element name and attribute values?

    2. The first handler would validate the entire XML document, extract the "type" attribute from each <form> element, and place each <form> element and its sub-elements into the map of Strings, using the "type" attribute as the key. The second handler would take a <form> element and parse it into a Form object for the display. This option was the impetus for my question because it relies on the first handler being able to access the entire <form> element XML String and write it to a map.I don't see why you need the raw data from the XML document here. You should already be abstracting your data into Java classes in the first handler, instead of making the second handler do the parsing all over again.Correct, I am not referring to XForms. In this case, it happens that I am using the XML to generate an SWT ScrolledForm object and, thus, the XML element name happens to be named "form." However, the concept/design problem could apply to any type of object and the XML element could be appropriately renamed.
    My experience with XSLT is limited and I haven't done anything with it for several years. With that said, it seems that it is primarily used for generating web content, which wouldn't apply in this case because this is for a client-server application. I could be off base on this one -- if XSLT applies to much broader translations and would be more appropriate for generating Java objects than my current methodology, I could certainly look into it further.
    I apologize that option two didn't make more sense; it is difficult to explain. Yes, optimally the data should be abstracted into Java classes in the first handler. This is really an elaboration that I failed to specify when explaining option one. The problem is that the user can choose to create any number of "forms" of any type. For instance, let's say that from the File -> New menu there are options for seven different types of forms and each form is used to send completely different data. The user can select form1, select form1 again, select form4, and select form7 (or any other combination) and bring up tabs that display the different forms. The user can then enter data and submit each form separately. When the user selects File -> New -> FormX, a SWT ScrolledForm object that corresponds with FormX must be given to the display. Because SWT ScrolledForm objects do not allow a deep copy, I cannot simply read the XML <form> elements at initialization, parse them into ScrolledForm objects, and pass deep copies of the ScrolledForm objects to the display each time the user clicks File -> New -> FormX. The only simple way I see of getting a new copy of a ScrolledForm object is to reparse the appropriate XML <form> element in order to create one each time the user selects File -> New -> FormX. As such, one handler would need to read the entire XML document and parse the <form> elements into a map (or some other data structure) and another handler would need to parse individual <form> elements into SWT ScrolledForm objects. The first handler would be called at initialization and the second handler would be called each time a user clicked on File -> New -> FormX. Once again, this isn't exactly my favorite implementation... but seems the simplest given that there is no way to do a deep copy of an SWT ScrolledForm object. Hopefully that makes a little more sense. No worries if it doesn't -- I just figured I'd throw this out there and see if anyone had a better idea.
