Is there a way to have a chart float so that it is visible as I enter data on a very long spreadsheet?
I am making a presentation to illustrate "normal distribution" (the bell curve). As I enter random numbers into a very long spreadsheet, I want the viewers to see the chart take shape. Is there a way to keep the chart visible as I move down the spreadsheet?
Thank you,
JMJKM
How about this for a rough idea (as in I did not try to make it look pretty):
Table 1 is a table of random numbers, as long a table as you want to use.
Table 2 uses NORMDIST to create the data points for the bell curve. The number of random numbers to include is given in cell D2, for which a stepper or slider would be a good choice. The average and standard deviation for the chosen data points are created as follows:
average =AVERAGE(OFFSET(Table 1::A2,0,0,D2))
stddev =STDEV(OFFSET(Table 1::A2,0,0,D2))
Those two values are used in the NORMDIST functions in column B. I don't know if I used the function correctly but it sounds like you already know how to create a bell curve from the random numbers.
Nothing moves around so there is no scrolling required. Place the chart in view and use the slider/stepper to include more data points.

Is there a way to disable Firefox from telling me that Adobe Flash Player is out of date?
We run a program that does not allow students to update programs or make any other changes. The problem is, Firefox thinks that we HAVE to update Flash Player every time there is a new release. This is just not feasible with as many computers as we support. 99% of the time, the update is not necessary.
They do have ESR version for Win/Mac at https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html where it is mainly security/stability fixes.
''westj [[#question-1044112|said]]''
<blockquote>
but I still would like to single out Adobe Flash because their ESR v-13 continues to be updated more frequently that I would have imagined for the reason of this "Extended Service Release"; is it possible, please, to edit the blocklist programatically (batch)?? For example: I installed Flash v-ESR 13.0.0.264 on 01/29 got warnings for v-13.0.0.269 around 02/26 --which also makes me wonder if I should have gotten a series of 5 warnings for (v-265--269) in about a mont's time.
I, too, work for a school and was hoping ESR v-13 would remain the static workable version until it fails to deliver flash content because of improvements to core -strictly necessary- development. Or am I missing the point of ESR?
</blockquote>
Just like with Flash 16.0 the 13.0 ESR gets security and stability updates as Adobe was trying to fix critical exploits proven in wild as to why there were five updates in a short time. https://helpx.adobe.com/security.html#flashplayer
ESR means it is a version supported for a longer period of time compared to the main version at time. The first Flash 16.0 I believe was 16.0.0.235 released early December 2014. -
Is there a way to have bookmark folders automatically collapsed in Safari when adding bookmarks? This would be a huge convenience in navigating to the right folder w/o having to deal with an eye chart of a folder tree.
Myself as well...
I think it is a tremendous problem. Im my case it is extremelly important to manage, organize and sort favorites.
I am new to Mac and safari... and I spent a lot of time researching a solution for that thinking it was me that couldnt find this option. I like to use safari because of the "gestures". This is great. But when it comes to favorites, safari is a nightmare!!!
Also, I use to like the option in Firefox that we can have the leftside bar with the favorites and navigate to the links in the right. In safari the links are open in the full page. And then we need to come back to the favorite everytime.
I would be glad if someone could come out with good solution or suggestions how to deal with it in fafari.

Is there any way to generate Gantt chart by using oracle 9iDS?
Is there any way to generate Gantt chart by using oracle 9i reports builder
Can you please send me the link or more information on oracle 9iDS.
ThanksHi,
Oracle9iDS itself doesn't support creating Gantt charts. The option oyu have is to use Oracle Graphics 6i, because there is no Graphics in 9i, and configure it to run with Oracle9i Forms. There exist a whitepaper at otn.oracle.com/products/forms that explains how to make Graphics 6i work with Forms 9i.

Is there a way to have the Filters in Analysis be ignored when rpt is run?
When i'm creating/testing a new report in the Analysis in OBIEE (11g ver), i'm generating some charts and graphs in a potential report which sift through large amounts of data. But when i'm creating/editting, i just want to filter on something specific so when i return to the analysis, its quick. However, when i launch the report in the dashboard, i dont want that filter being applied -- i want the prompts i've set to do all the filtering. And as i return to the analysis mode, my filter would be there still and applied so i don't have to wait long for it to render. Is there a way to have the Filters in the analysis be ignored when the report is run in the Dashboard or run outside of being in the analysis mode?
As far as I have experience working with OBIEE. Any filters you create in reports inline are overwritten by filters in the dashboard prompt, if they created with the same columns and presentation tables. To stop this behavior, there is an option to mark your inline report filter as Protected, so it won't be overwritten. You should try though.

Is there a way to make a chart relative?
There are a lot of MBean attributes that are monotonically increasing (like messages processed, number of requests, etc.).
Is there a way to graph or chart those values in a delta format?
For example if the attribute is 102 messages for one graphing period and 113 the next time, can we get 11 drawn on the dial/chart?In the Flight Recorder the rate of change and deltas between the first and last values can be shown, but we don't have this in the JMX Console right now. Let me open an enhancement request on this!
The easy way to do this would be to let dials have a delta mode where they show the difference between the first value since reset and whatever the current value is. -
Is there any way to scroll pie chart labels
is there a way to have a scroll bar for the pie chart key
Many thanksHi,
I haven't found how to make legend scrollable but I can suggest to put list box with color alerts. The listbox will show each series of pie chart and color alerts will indicate the color of each slice.
So, simply instead of using pie which can't support scrolling in the legend put listbox which supports it.
In addition, I believe you have already been asked for showing values on each slice of piechart. On this week, service pack 3 have been released. By using this service pack, you can start to show values on the charts.

RE: Is there a way to have 2 network cards on the samemachine
Sean,
I mean I am always connecting to the nodemgr of the 2nd environment
successfully. Only when I run the client part of the application that I know
is up, I get a response from the Name Server that it is actually the first
IP address.
I checked again. I defenitely have FORTE_NS_ADDRESS set to IP:5004, in my
case, and not the hostname. I don't have FORTE_LOCATIONS set any where. the
NS_ADDRESS for env2 has only 1 IP address associated with it. My Forte
Control Panel on the client, and hence the NS address has only one entry.
I tried going into escript like you said, and the name service still thinks
it is IP1.

Hmmmm? That is a little odd! Let me rehash what I think you are saying.
You now have two environments each with their own name service with
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS set to a different IP:Port combination. For example you
are doing the steps:
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS=255.255.255.1:5000
start the nodemgr for env 1
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS=255.255.255.2:5000
start the nodemgr for env 2
Now when you start a client you are always getting the address for env 1
back from the nodemgr. I assume you actually mean the name service? Or, do
you mean you are always connecting to the nodemgr & name service for env
1?
If the first scenario is the case and you are connecting to the nodemgr
for
env 2 but getting back IP's for services listening on the card for env 1 I
would ask you what you are setting the FORTE_LOCATIONS value to before you
start each service. If you are not setting it or are using the host name
it
will register using the IP for the primary network card associated with
the
machine name and I am again assuming that this is env 1. You need to set
the FORTE_LOCATIONS variable to 255.255.255.2:0 (based on the steps above)
before starting your services.
If the second scenario is the case I would have you check what the
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS is set to before you start up the client. Once again it
must be the IP:Port combination not host:port combination if you want to
get
anything other than the primary card.
I would also suggest that you do the following. After everything is up
and
running execute the following commands:
escript -fns "ip for env1":port
findsub nameservice
showpart
What you should see is everything currently registered under the name
service. It will have the name and any "locations" (IP and port) that it
is
registered as listening on. I would look for the nodemgr and see where it
has advertised itself. I would then look for any services you expect to
be
registered there and also verify where the have advertised themselves. If
there are multiple locations listed for any one service, the client will
use
the first one in the list.
Do the same for env 2.

Hello Venkat,
I probably should have mentioned this before. Your are correct. Forteis
doing a host lookup if you are providing a name for examplemachine1:5000.
You can bypass the host lookup by using the actual ip dot addressinstead
for example 255.255.255.255:5000. This way you are taking the name
service
out od the picture and Forte will use the address provided.

OK, you ran into one of the issues. That is, if both addresses areknown
to
the client that is trying to contact the partition it will always usethe
first address in FORTE_LOCATIONS. This is because FORTE_LOCATIONS was
designed more as a failover mechanism. So it will always try the
first
address in the list and if it succeeds, there is no reason to move onto
the
second.
Now, the second issue is that there is currently a problem with theclient
failover to the secondary address in FORTE_LOCATIONS. If the firstentry
fails it is supposed to retry on the second entry. Instead, it
retries
the
first entry again. I know that Forte knows about this but I do nothave
a
bug number on it.
With that said, lets look at a possible solution for you. If the real
objective here is to have a back up network card available for fail
over
on
the same machine, or use one card to advertise outside your firewalland
one
to use inside, then you will have to contact Forte to determine whenthe
failover problem will be fixed. But, if the objective is to loadbalance
across the network cards you could have the environment manager listenon
both ports and then alternate your server partitions across both
cards.
For
example:
set FORTE_NS_ADDRESS=card1:5000;card2:5000 and then start up the
environment
manager
set FORTE_LOCATIONS=card1:0 (the 0 in the port causes the OS to pick a
port)
and start partition one
set FORTE_LOCATIONS=card2:0 and start partition two
and so on....
In this scenario the environment manager will be listening on bothcards
but
each server will be listening on only one of the two cards. So if a
request
comes in for partition1 it will go through card one and if it is for
partition two it will go through card two. You could assign your
partitions
to cards based on expected load.
Well, I am done. I hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply. I tried the approach. I was not very specificin
my

I was succesfully able to make the nodemgr listen on both the cardsand
actually serve requests coming in from both the cards. But, followingyour
advise, I took a cautious step with FORTE_LOCATIONS. Here is what I
noticed.
I have an application that has 6 partitions in total. I used
FORTE_LOCATION
to make it listen on 1. Both the cards. 2. Swapped the IP addresses
for
both
cards for this application. 3. One card that I want it to listen on. I
tried
all approaches by exporting the locations variable for just this
application. The nodemgr recieves a request from this pc connected onthe
second card to talk to one of the partitions. The node mgr responds
with
a
proxy - with the ip address and socket number of the first card. The
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS variable looks like this:
IP1:5002;IP2:5002.
Is it possible atall to resolve my problem, without having a seperate
environment?

Venkat,
Actually, it is possible for Forte to listen on more than one IP andport
combination. The first reply to your message was correct. If you
set
the
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS to contain multiple entries before starting the
name
service, it will advertise on both. For Forte servers you use the
FORTE_LOCATIONS env variable to get it to advertise on multipleip:port
combinations.
We were doing something very similar with another customer I was at

around a firewall. I will warn you that there are some issues with
FORTE_LOCATIONS that may keep that portion from working. However,
from
reading your note, it appears that all you need is for the nameservice
to
advertise and listen on multiple ports and that works fine. I justtested
it again for sanity sake and it worked. I ran my test on NT using
Forte
3G2.

Technically yes this is possible, though not in Forte. A nameserver
can
only listen on one port.
To implement this scheme you will have to write a proxy service (insome
language
including perhaps forte) which listens on the well-known port on the
second card, reads requests, then forwards them to the realnameservice
(wkp on the first card), and forwards replies back. This is not
trivial, but some firewall toolkit vendors supply stub code to write
application specific proxies.

Is there a way to have two separate projects open in different windows?
On my old editing software, I could have two separate projects open at the same time. I could copy clips from Project A, click over to Project B, and paste the Project A clips to Project B. Is there a way to have two separate projects open with Premiere Elements, or will I have to just import and trim every clip within the same project?
Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, PrE will not allow two Projects to be open at the same time. It will also not allow multiple instances of PrE to be open.
The workaround, to accomplish what you describe, is to use a ClipBoard Extender, such as ClipMate, which will allow one to Copy a Timeline, or parts of it, from one Project, then Close that one, to Open another one, and Paste the material, that was Copied. Many users employee ClipMate, or similar, to Copy/Paste material from one Project, to another.

You're confusing icloud and itunes store accounts. Individual users should have their own icloud accounts (using their Apple ID) but multiple users can share the same ID for logging into the itunes store account.

2 iPhones 1 computer – Is there any way to have separate contact list
My wife and I recently purchased 2 iPhones (One for each of us). We are presently sharing an iBook G4. Is there any way to have separate contact list and separate calendars on the computer? We both use our phones for our individual work, and have different contact. I am trying to move us from pc to mac. I have a newer pc (compared to the G4) that I can hook the phones up too, but as I said I am trying to move away from PC's. We purchased the G4 used from a friend to get started and learn mac. Sorry for the long explanation I just wanted you to know that I am new to mac.
Just set-up 2 user accounts on the computer, then you effectively have 2 computers in one. All your phone data, and everything else (internet bookmarks, desktop preferences, application preferences) etc. are completely separate.
You and your wife can then use the computer in exactly the way you both prefer without affecting the other.
You didn't say what version of Mac OS X you are using, so here are the instructions for:
10.4.x: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh168.html
10.5.x: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
You can then use *Fast User Switching* to switch between the accounts:

Is there any way to have mail in Gmail's Spam folder show up in Junk?
I use Gmail IMAP and Apple Mail 4.2. One thing I find frustrating is that if I am trying to keep an eye on my spam / junk for wayward messages (as we all should do from time to time) I have to check 2 folders.
Is there any way to set it up so mail that is tagged as spam by gmail goes to the Junk folder in apple mail.
I know you can setup gmails spam folder to be the Junk - but I want the reverse - so the Junk folder up by my Inbox houses all the junk & spam.
This used to work - does not seem to anymore - or I'm missing something.
Thanks in advance.CndrllC wrote:

On Friday, my LCD went dark. When I looked really hard, I could see all the screens that I'd been working with, but I couldn't bring them to light. If I shut the cover and waited for the machine to suspend itself, then opened the cover, I'd get the L
