Is there a way to instal Final cut studio 2 in the new iMac with Lion?

My new iMac arrived with pre installed Os x Lion. When tried to instal FCS2 it gives me error that it can't open it because PowerPC apps are no longer supported. Geniuses . I'm wandering, since I can't downgrade to snow leopard, is there a way around this. Can I buy the snow leopard, instal only the Roseta , instal FCS2 and then uninstall the Roseta?
Has any of you encounter this problem?
Are the new iMacs exclusively done to run with Lion?

You will need to install Snow Leopard in order to be able to run the FCS 2 Installer since it requires Rosetta. Note however, that the applications do not require Rosetta (they are UB). So after having installed FCS you could now upgrade to Lion if you want .... but upgrading the OS over an installed version of FCS is not recommended practice.
Personally, I'd just get a copy of Snow Leopard and stick with that .... or get FCS 3 (and stick with Snow Leopard).

  • Final Cut Studio 2 to new iMac w Lion

Ok I'm seeing I might have an issue right from the start. I just bought a brand new iMac 27" loaded w RAM etc. Obviously it is running Lion and version 10.7.2. I did get Adobe M.C. up and running and all functioning seems fine.
Now I have a brand new Studio 2 with upgrade from my original FCStudio. That also got upgraded a few years back when I was on my G5.
I'd like to avoid nightmares so am asking advice -before I do anything to begin the installation of FCP and its Studio mates...
What do you suggest first... ? And will I need Java to begin?

  • Re installing Final Cut Studio on my NEW Mac pro?

I originally purchased Final Cut Studio (on a G5 Power PC), Then installed the universal crossgrade,
then installed Final Cut Studio 2. Now I have a New Mac Pro (Intel Chips) How do I go about
reinstalling FCS? do I need the original serial key from the first version or do I just use my
    FCS 2 serial Key?
    J>H<L

    J>H<L
You'll need both keys, but you only have to do one installation.
The FCS2 installer will ask for the FCS2 key. If that passes, another window will open asking for the FCS key. If that key passes, then it's just a normal installation.

  • Problems installing Final Cut Studio on my new Macbook Pro

I just got my new 17 inch Macbook Pro, and am trying to install Final Cut Studio 3.  It installed just fine, and accepted the serial number.  The problem is that every time I open the application, I have to reenter the serial number.  Once I do that, it runs fine, but the next time, I have to reenter the info again.  Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

do some searching here.  I remember other people having this problem.  You might also try repairing permissions on your startup drive, deleting your fcp preferences

And creating a new account in system preferences:  accounts.

  • Installing Final Cut Express on a new iMac

I have been using Final Cut Express HS 3.5 since 2006.  My old iMac died, and in trying to reinstall the program on the new iMac, I am told that Power PC products are no longer supported.
Is there a workaround or solution?  I really don't want to buy the program all over again.

Here is the skinny on FCE 3.5 in Mavericks on your new iMac:
    1)  FCE 3.5 is a Universal app that will run on Intel Macs; it is not PowerPC and does not require Rosetta.  See:
    http://roaringapps.com/
    2)  Similar to FCP 6, there is a "bug" in the installer app that generates the "PowerPC" dialog box and prevents its installation in Mavericks.  Use one of these two methods to install FCE 3.5:
    A) Pacifist - http://www.charlessoft.com/
    B) Use the Terminal method described by Jeremy Johnstone on his blog:

  • Cant install final cut studio on my new mac

    hello everybody,
i recently bought a new MacBook Pro ( best 15" model available only because of final cut!). I had final cut (7) on my old MacBook. I synchronized the 2 computers but a i had to reinstall view programs (Aperture, Adobe…- it worked normally).
Here comes the thing. I tried to reinstall final cut studio. It didn't work. I downloaded an uninstaller. It didn't work. I searched the whole library for files that are still there and may block the reinstallation. There were some but after deleting them it still didn't work either.
The error is not known or at least not shown. The installation program just tells me that an error occurred.
My feelings are a mixture of dosserpointment and anger, because this program was the main reason why i bought my 3.000€ mac!
Pleease help me… You are my last chance… any hint could help me

Syncing could be the issue because of licensing or the installer thinking there is some sort of licensing conflict. If Digital Rebellion's FCS unistaller isn't doing the job you only have a few options.
    1) Removing everything manually - This can be done but it isn't for the novice.
    2) Complete reinstall(presuming you have all of your discs) - Make a disc image of your HD to another drive and then do a clean install. A clean install would be recommended even if you were just upgrading from FCS2 to 3.

  • Can I install Final Cut Studio on the G5 I have?

Currently have Final Cut 5.0.4 - I just purchased Final Cut Studio 2 and am nervous about installing it on this computer. From the box specs, it appears as though this computer meets all specs except the VRAM for 16 and 32 bit rendering. (It says I need 128 MB, but my graphics card is 64 MB.)
Any advice on what problems this might cause and if I should or should not install Studio 2 on this computer?
    Any input is appreciated.

I think you'll be able to run Motion, as long as you stay 8 or 10 bit.
You may remember that I wrote:
So if you do all your work in regular 8 or 10-bit, it should work.
It's difficult to upgrade a computer that old, as you probably realize.
    I'm not sure whether your computer is a M9454LL/A or a M9555LL/A
I checked out these spec pages:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP80
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP67
and it seems that, if you can find this card
ATI RADEON 9600 XT with 128MB DDR SDRAM
(wihch was used on the faster G5s of that series)
it should plug in and work.
In any case, Motion needs a good graphics card.
My suggestion? Go ahead and install FCS on your G5 and get to work.
When you can afford an Intel machine, you can install it on the new machine
    and go crazy!

  • Installing final Cut Studio (2005) on an iMac

I recently bought an iMac with the intent of doing some video editing. I was assured by various people (including the specialist in a local Mac reseller) that I could run the 2005 Final Cut Studio (which I already owned) on the new line of iMacs, but when I tried installing the software it told me I didn't have the required hardware.
Have I just been given misinformation and now have to buy the new studio pack, or is this an issue that can be sorted with a download?

It depends on the version number of your copy of Final Cut Studio.
If memory serves me correctly, the version of Final Cut Studio in 2005 was a non-universal binary, or PowerPC version, designed specifically for pre-Intel Macs. This version put Final Cut Pro at version 5.0 and went up to version 5.0.4.
The Universal Binary version was a paid upgrade and wasn't released until early 2006. At the time, it was a very good deal, however, after multiple extensions, that upgrade program was discontinued shortly before the release of Final Cut Studio 2 in 2007. The UB version allowed the installation of FCS on Intels and Non-Intels. This changed the version number to 5.1.
EDIT: I've heard of people installing pre-UB versions on Intels and having them work, but it's not supported and not recommended.

  • Cannot install Final Cut Studio 7 on new Mac Pro

I've just purchased Final Cut Studio 7 (Academic edition) for my Mac Pro (brand new G4 running 10.6.2), and it refuses to install. When I start the download package I get an Alert:
"Final Cut Studio Installer requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
and just quits. I looked on the specs online (http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/) and it states that I need
"ATI or NVIDIA graphics processor (integrated Intel graphics processors not supported)"
I have 2 NVIDIA graphics cards, both GeForce GT 120. Are these not Quartz Extreme capable video cards?

First of all you don't have a G4. A G4 is an obsolete computer that doesn't run Final Cut Studio.

  • Final cut studio 2 on new imac 24'' 2.8 GHz

    Hi,
I am, in the near future, starting wedding videography and my idea is to purchase Final Cut Studio 2 and the new imac 24" 2.8GHz with 4gb RAM and the 1TB hard drive.
My question is this, will this computer be powerful enough for me to run the Final Cut Studio "smoothly" while editing HD quality video?
My business will be based on this so i want to be sure!!!
    Thanks in advance!

Do not start your business based on a computer and a piece of software. Research the business first, then decide what you will need and then figure out a way to finance it. When you get down to starting your event photography business, the computer is going to be the smallest captial investment you make; do not scrimp on it.
The iMac will only satisfy your needs for a few months but it will do the job. You must also have printers, scanners, backup routines and external drives. Umm, insurance.

Although this tutorial suggests creating a bootable drive with the OS installer on it, that's not necessary.  You can just create disk images as he describes and mount them.
I am not sure why you did not just post this tutorial instead of requesting me to describe a workflow.
In the time it took me to research a workflow for Pacifist for a link for the OP, it seems he spent 6 hours of wasted time.
    Michael:
Have you ever "uninstalled" Rosetta after installing it on a Lion or Mt. Lion Mac? and
I believe you told me earlier you do not use FCS2.  Is that correct and if so what is your connection to offering so much repeated installation advice about a product that you do not use yourself?
I note that I also do not use FCS2, but I am attempting to get a copy to attempt to implement the Jeremy Johnstone "Text Edit" solution (no dangers of using Terminal).  Unfortunately, all sources of purchasing a copy of FCS2 are just too expensive for me with no ultimate need for the program, after I figure out how to install it.
If you know of a copy of FCS2 that can be "lent" to me for "fair use" educational means of figuring out how to install it (and thereafter erasing that copy from my Mac), please let me know.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and New Macbooks with Nvidia graphics

Do the new Macbooks announced today (10/14/2008) meet the minimum system requirements for running Final Cut Studio 2?

Lecturing? Really? Not hardly, but I'll answer your query as succinctly as possible.
Will the new Macbook run Final Cut Studio 2? I will wager that FCP will operate, DVD SP will operate and Soundtrack Pro will operate. I highly doubt Color will operate and am not sure about Motion due to the graphics card.
That should answer your question. To "lecture" some more, where will you have media stored and how will you get media, any sort of media into these applications?
As far as graphics and video are concerned, that distinction has been met above. I'm sure the Macbook will operate Photoshop with no problem.
But again, why not check the minimum tech specs for yourself?

  • Is there a way to download Final Cut Pro 7?

Is there a way to download Final Cut Pro 7 onto my imac if I have the serial # from a cd version?

Unfortunately not. The current version of FCP X is 10.0.8 and available for purchase (and download) from the Mac App Store. As far as I know, none of the pro applications were ever available via download. If you have the serial number, have you tried using the install disks (or is it a PPC app problem?).
