Is there a way to install FCPX without disabling FCP7 on the same computer so that both programs can be used?

I'm running Yosemite on a new iMac 5K maxed out and on an iMac 3.4GHz i7, with 16GB Memory.

Here is Apple's support doc on running both applications – with different solutions.  Just to add that with respect to other programs in the FCS3 suite,  Motion4 no longer works in Yosemite, Neither does the preference pane for Qmaster (although there are work-arounds, if you're interested.)

If you own any verson of iPhoto '11 then there is a free update to version 9.5.x in the App store
If you own a previous version of iPhto (iPhoto '09 or earlier) then as always an upgrade to a new version (in this case iPhoto '11) is a paid upgrade and you purchase it in the App store
and no OS update/upgrade contains a version of iPhto - it is a seperate program and although it is included as part of every new Mac it is not a free program and never has been sinve version 1 or 2 (I forget when it changes)

Plugins usually are installed externally to Firefox. However, you can disable them in Firefox so that Firefox does not use them.
SearchReset is supposed to automate the task of resetting certain preferences, but you still can edit them manually if necessary.
    '''''Address Bar Search'''''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''keyword''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Right-click '''keyword.URL''' and choose Reset. This should restore Google as the default for address bar search.
    Does that work?
    '''''Search Box'''''
Usually it works to choose your preferred search engine from the drop-down. To remove an unwanted search engine plugin, usually the Manage Search Engines... choice at the bottom of the drop-down takes care of it.
    Do either of those work?
There might be another way to hijack that search box; I think some of the other frequent responders probably are more familiar with it than I am.

  • Is there a way to snap cut/edited portions together on the same track rather than manually having to drag them together?

Is there a way to snap cut/edited portions together on the same track rather than manually having to drag them together?  To elaborate, if I have a 3 minute track of raw audio and I edit out the middle 30 seconds of it I am left with two tracks with a "30 second" area that has no file.  To join them manually I can click and drag one portion of the audio until I match it with the other section but instead, is there a shortcut or function that I could select that automatically marries up the cut portions of the track, thereby eliminating the 30 second gap?

Yes: hold the control key while deleting (or select "delete and move" from the Edit menu.)

  • Is there a way to install X11 without re-installing OSX?

I cannot find a way of installing X11 without re-installing OSX.
I've looked on the cd for the installer but with no luck.
The X11 installer isn't located in the bundled software installer and X11 will not install with the X11 SDK.
The retail verson of tiger has an optional istall on the disk but it will not work with intel macs. And the X11 download from apple will not work with Tiger (not even in Rosetta).
I've found the X11 install option when I restart my MacBook with the install DVD inside and am asked to reinstall Tiger. This doesnt do me any good because i dont want to do a fresh install of tiger just to get X11.
Does anyone know a way around this issue?
    Please Help!
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.6)

On the intel Tiger DVD there is no additional software or other software folers or packages. There is:
Install Bundled Software (which does not contain X11)
Install OSX and Bundled Software (which requires you to reinstall OSX to Install X11)
Xcode Tools Folder (which contains Xcode and Xcode extras but no X11 installer)
    And documentation PDFs

  • Is there a way to install OS X Snow Leopard on the 2014 MacBook Pro Retina?

I have a 2014 MacBook Pro Retina that I purchased a few months ago. Is there a way to install OS X Snow Leopard on it? I do not have a DVD drive and do not own OS X Snow Leopard discs. I do have a retail copy .dmg file of it though. Can I copy it over to a USB flash drive and install it on a partition of my hard drive? How do I do that, if it's possible? Can you list the steps? I would appreciate it!
    Thanks!
    P.S. Please don't ask why.

Presumably, you want Snow Leopard in order to be able to run PowerPC applications.  If so, more information can be found here:

  • Is there a way to share iTunes music between different users on same computer?

Just bought a new iMac and want to share my library with my wife on same computer. We have separate user profiles on the computer, but don't want to have to import entire 200gb library twice onto the same machine. Is there a way to get her profile to see my music on the same computer?

  • Firefox has suddenly stopped connecting on one of three user accounts on the same computer. That account still connects with Safari - but not Firefox. A clean-install has not solved the problem. Help?

Three user accounts on the same computer all link to a single copy of Firefox 3.6.8 - but one of them has suddenly lost its ability to use the program. Firefox opens in that account, but it cannot connect to the Internet. 'Done' appears at the lower left of a blank Firefox page [it's set to load a blank page initially], as though a page had finished downloading ... but Firefox does not actually generate any Internet activityx.
Previously, the Firefox connection for this account was smooth and reliable. I haven't added, upgraded or downloaded any new programs, nor made any other computer changes in recent weeks or months.
Puzzlingly - that same account still connects successfully to the Internet via Safari. And the other accounts on the same computer continue to use Firefox with no problem - including a test user-account that I set up today to help troubleshoot the problem. The blockage is restricted solely to Firefox with that one user account.
Following your Support page instructions, I did a clean-install of Firefox 3.6.8, removing both the existing Firefox 3.6.8 and the Library/Application Support/Firefox folder. Going the extra mile, I checked all accounts to be certain that no Firefox folders remained in any of them - then emptied the Trash and restarted before installing a freshly downloaded 3.6.8. But blimey - the blockage still persists for that one user account.
Firefox shows no visible cookies that might influence the connection. [It's set to delete all cookies upon closing anyway.] And I see no obvious instructions in Mac's firewall or any software program to refuse access to Firefox. The computer is stand-alone, not networked. And in any case, Firefox works just fine in the two other user accounts.
Deleting the hobbled user account is not feasible. So what is causing this roadblock? Did I miss a step in the clean-install? How can that account resume using Firefox?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.
You can also delete active-update.xml and possibly updates.xml (stores the update history).

  • Is there a way to install "apps" without using the store? (No Internet, intentionally)

We have an industrial control system that is
purposely cut off from the Internet for security purposes.  We want to install the RDP app on tablets.  Is there  way to do this without an Internet connection?  Has MS even considered such a scenario?

    Hi,
We need the internet connection to install Store app, this is designed by default.
Since we need internet to logon with the Microsoft account and can't download the offline installer as desktop app from Windows Store.

  • Is there a way to install Bootcamp without purchasing a Windows disc?

I understand that to install Bootcamp on a MacBook Pro (15"), I need a Windows 7 installer disc. I am happy to purchase this if absolutely necessary, but it seems silly to buy Windows 7 all over again when I have it running on another laptop I own. Is there any way to somehow make my own installer disc from my own version of Windows 7 instead of buying a completely seperate copy just for use on Mac? Thanks

Windows license is an MS issue, not a Bootcamp issue.  MS says "one install per license".
To install in Bootcamp, you need a copy of Windows install with *ALL* drivers, be it a full (install as often as you wish) or OEM/"System Builder" (install once, but beg permission to install on another system).  Windows disk that came with your old Dell or HP or Gateway only has drivers for that system.

  • Is there a way to instal Final cut studio 2 in the new iMac with Lion?

My new iMac arrived with pre installed Os x Lion. When tried to instal FCS2 it gives me error that it can't open it because PowerPC apps are no longer supported. Geniuses . I'm wandering, since I can't downgrade to snow leopard, is there a way around this. Can I buy the snow leopard, instal only the Roseta , instal FCS2 and then uninstall the Roseta?
Has any of you encounter this problem?
Are the new iMacs exclusively done to run with Lion?

You will need to install Snow Leopard in order to be able to run the FCS 2 Installer since it requires Rosetta. Note however, that the applications do not require Rosetta (they are UB). So after having installed FCS you could now upgrade to Lion if you want .... but upgrading the OS over an installed version of FCS is not recommended practice.
Personally, I'd just get a copy of Snow Leopard and stick with that .... or get FCS 3 (and stick with Snow Leopard).

  • Is there any way to keep persistent ID's for tracks the same when migrating to a new computer?

    Hi There,
I've been using iTunes to maintain a music database for several years now. When I need to send somone tracks I use the persistent ID to identify the tracks since any of the other info can be in flux at any given point in time.
This has worked fine for many years, but now I'd like to upgrade my machine but I'm noticing after importing my library to the new computer that the persistent ID's were changed. I need to figure out if I can get them to be the same as they were or I won't be able to upgrade without resending any and all tracks that have already been sent to other DB's (Which would not go over well with my clients. . . so I'll be stuck on this ancient machine. . . )
Any help here would be greatly apreciated!
    Thanks
    Andrew

See my post Make a split library portable. The library persistent IDs are stored in the .itl database and assigned as tracks are added to the library. The .xml files is a subset of the .itl data written out for use by third party programs. A new library with the same media imported to it will have different IDs assigned to each track. You should be able to connect the drive to the original computer and manipulate the files and folders to gain the portable status, then move the library to the new machine where everything should then work as before.
As Limnos says the IDs are meant to be used internally by iTunes. They are how it records which tracks are in a playlist for example, or what is synced to a device, so that ratings, play counts etc. can be synced across even after changes in metadata.

  • Is there a way to add multiple search bars visible at the same time (Amazon, Ebay, etc.) rather than clicking through them?

Like, instead of clicking to pick the one you want, have 3 or 4 available on the toolbar all the time. I saw something called Thinger that does it, but that was from Firefox 3.

Is there a way to choose the contacts you want to include in a send field in ONE step like we used to be able to do in the last version of this app?
No. You can kind of do it by dragging from the Contacts app, but the default address (first in list, I think) will be used. I you have contacts with multiple email addresses, you’d have to go to each in the address field and select the correct one.
