Is there a way to lock my MAC so it can't be opened without a special password?

Choose the apple menu, apple in the upper left corner, then System Preferences > Users and Groups icon, for the admin account that you should be in, add a password if there is none, then under the left panel, click the + to add accounts.  Choose Standard and enter a user name for yourself, different from the admin name, type a password in the password box.  Click create user.
Add as many user accounts as you want, each with a separate password.

  • Is there any way to lock a Mac via iPhone or iPod touch?

Just wondering... Is there any free way to lock or logout a Mac using an iPhone or iPod touch? Maybe using an AppleScript and the Bluetooth built into both devices (when the iPod goes outside of the Mac's range, the computer could lock)? Any suggestions?

  • Is there a way to lock a PDF so it can only be printed at 100%

I haven't dealt much with PDF security so forgive my lack of knowledge. We have a product template that needs to only be printed out at 100%. Is possible to lock the printing prefs? I've searched Acrobat help and the web but I couldn't find anything so if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great! Thanks!

Unfortunately, you cannot "lock" your history. However, if you want to keep certain web pages you visited, the best way of doing that is making it a bookmark. To bookmark something, press the star symbol to the right of the address bar.

  • Is there a way to lock the app tabs, so that it automaticly opens a new tab when I leave the site that the app tab is started on?

I am wondering if it is possible to turn app tabs into basically a "live bookmark"

the TabMixPlus extension has a feature for doing just this (and lots of other features i have come to use all the time, can't live w/o it)
the option is on the very bottom of the Events preference panel -> New Tabs tab in the TabMixPlus options window (see pic)

  • Is there a way to lock or secure imovie and its files

Hello and as always thanks for all the help in my previous posts.
I frequently review and edit video that needs to remain secure during the editing process.
Before I import it and when I'm done with a project I can secure it in several ways, but while working on it in imovie its wide open to anyone who opens the app. My mac is under my control, but life goes on around my work and my Mac is used for other things as well.
Is there a way to either lock imovie so it can't be opened without a password and is there a way to hide/secure the folders the program uses?
    thanks in advance.
    Marc

The default location for your iMovie files is in your User account (the icon with the house on it).
Other users of the machine should have their own User account (guest user) and they will not have access to your files but can continue to use iMovie.

  • Is there any way to lock the history, i want to see what my children have been looking at

is there any way to lock the history, my kids are deleting the history so i can't see where they've been

I have 15,000 songs and I have relocated them many times.  You can right click/show in finder/explorer on a song in your itunes library to find out where they are (if you don't know).  Go to their source folder and move them to an external HD manually.  Then I suggest clearing all songs out of your itunes library (control - delete, or command - delete on a mac)(make sure you click "keep files" if it asks).   Then dragging everything back in from the new location on the external HD.  Just note you'll have to have that external hooked up any time you want to listen to your music.

  • Is there a way to lock the phone's touch screen during a phone call?

I just purhased my iPhone and I noticed that during a phone call I may accidentally tap Mute or Speakerphone with my cheak, depending on which hand I hold the phone in. Also when I hand the phone over to someone they may accidentally tap a button, and in the worst scenerios they will accidentally end the call.
Is there a way to lock the screen or something to prevent any of the above from occuring?

Their currently isent a way to disable the buttons but what you can do is click the home button during a call after pressing loud speaker and that will separate you from the call options and take you to the home screen and on the top it will have say call active and you can click that to renter the call note the call will still be active but when you hold it next to your face the screen should temporally go dark. Steve jobs was the one who came up with when the top sensor is active the screen will go dark and disable on screen button pressing when it is press against your face

    Hi,
Is there an iPhone involved ?
If not, what happens  if you remove the Apple ID on the iPad and then set it in Airplane Mode (allow a couple of minutes at this point) followed by re-adding the Apple ID ?
What, if any error messages are appearing on the Mac when you try to launch the App or Login to the iMessages server ?
Is the Apple ID linked to an iCloud account ?
In Messages 7 (Mountain Lion) this did not seem to be important but it seems it is in Mavericks/Messages 8

This sounds like the age old problem with keychain & Safari. I don't know of a way to solve it without using something like 1Password.
The iOS app has it's own built in browser, so it has more control over what gets autofilled. Safari on OS X has an 1Password extension that handles account selection & autofill etc.
Keychain is great in principle, but it quickly falls down when you need tight integration with many ID's & different use cases (work, home etc).
I'd suggest you submit feedback to Apple about your thoughts. I did so years ago about this issue & this is how far we have come (back to the point where me.com synced passwords) :^)
    http://apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Other tools like lastpass or keypassx may also help if you want to truly segregate password storage, but that doesn't fix autofill, the way around that issue is to dedicate one browser for work.

  • TS1702 Is there a way to lock out or restore original settings on an iPad used in a school lab setting. We need something like the program cornerstone, which will allow the iPad to revert back to its original setup.

We setup iPads for a mobile lab and students change the settings or set up a pass code on the iPad. Is there a way to lock the settings folder or an app to revert any changes back to the original set up like the program cornerstone (for a pc)?

you might need to post this question on iPad in the Enterprice community

  • Is there a way of locking app folders in iphone?

I have found a lot of app fro locking pictures and files, contacts, etc, Is there a way of locking down a folder that contains apps? Say i don't want someone opening my facebook app or other apps I have. Any help is appreciated.

Unless the app has some sort of passcode written into it, no, you can't lock it. You can't lock folders.
If you don't want someone using your Facebook app, you can log out of it.

  • Is there a way of locking a word document in ios mountain lion so that it cant be printed or changed?

Is there a way of locking a word document in mountain lion so it cant be printed or changed?

You can print because it's your document. Others shouldn't be able to. But then it's easy enough to unlock them altogether.
Easiest is to get encryption software and just encrypt the document. Or create a small encrypted disc image with Disk Utility and store the document in the disc image.
