Is there a way to make Aperture use more RAM for better performance?

I know in Photoshop or Lightroom (I forget which) you can designate the amount of RAM the program uses. Is it possible to do this in Aperture? If not, is there any other way. I just want it so that when I'm using Aperture, it designates most system resources to Aperture. Thanks.

I think that RAM designation in Ps or Lr is rather a limit/maximum which you can set then what it will/must use (perhaps in order to keep other programs running smoothly).
If you simply dont run any other programs Aperture should get all the attention it can get from your computer. Well maybe it cant use all your RAM if you have 8GB.. but it will use what it needs.
I believe that there are some terminal commands that can assign CPU priority to some processes, but in not entirly sure about how that works and if it helps.. just search for it on the web..

The splash screen shows before your app's code runs so there isn't any opportunity for the app code to modify or enhance it.

I have been messing around with the dodge and burn plug in. Is there a way to make it so it doesn't create a new version when I edit with the plug in, but rather just edits the existing file?

Is there a Way to Make the HUD More Transparent

I have been doing a number of Full screen adjustments with the HUD, but I find I am always moving the HUD so that I can see the image section I need to tweek. It would be EXTREMELY nice if I could make the HUD more transparent so that I can see the underlying image better. As the HUD is already partly transparent, I know there must be a preference somewhere to increase the transparency. Since I can not seem to find any mention of this in the manual, and no menu option (that I can find), I assume the only way to make the HUD more transparent, would be edit a plist.
Would anyone know what I need to do to make the HUD more transparent?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would hope that application developers would learn from game developers, where HUDs are used ubiquitously.. Very usable and can be even 90% transparent or more.... it is all about contrast. There is a LOT of opaque DARK gray space in the Aperture HUDs, which could easily be much more transparent (even 50% would help). All you would have to do is keep the adjustment controls contrast up. i.e. Apples DVD Player Navigator.
Anyway.... it would be nice.

FCE works in standardized broadcast frame sizes and frame rates. If your screen recording is not exactly the same pixel dimensions and frame rate as the sequence you are editing in, FCE will try to force it to fit, and that forcing may distort and reduce the apparent quality of your recording.
Have you tried to render your clips on the sequence?
Most people that are creating tutorials, etc. use dedicated software. If you have to do this a lot, then you might want to consider software such as ScreenFlow, which consolidates screen recording, editing/manipulating of the screen recording, and re-compression of your project for delivery in one application.

Can a OLAP Cube be Processed in to RAM , Can this be done using Traditional BI ? , If we can place the entire SSAS Cube in RAM for better performance , how can it be done?

I'm trying to increase the performance of my OLAP Cube and i thought placing the CUbe entirely in RAM can solve this problem. can anyone please answer me , if this can be done using Traditional BI i.e SSAS and how?

I do not believe you can load the entire cube into RAM and even if you were able to do so, I don't think you'll be able to solve you performance issues.

Is there a way to make screencasts using apple s/w?

Does anyone have experience with making screencasts and if so what would you recommend as the best tools (probably defined as flexible and easy to use).
It appears there is an apple podcast creator,which does screen capture in video, but that only works with apple server as far as I can tell. So it doesn't appear to be a good candidate for individuals and single computers.
Reports seem to suggest that "screenflow" is the best tool to use for capture and editing.
My applications would be mostly of an education type, explaining concepts etc. Most of the presentations would be onscreen, although there might be some people views.
For on screen views I anticipate using "keynote" to illustrate concepts.
I have no experience in this subject and would appreciate any references to tutorials.
Finally if this not the best place to post this are they any suggestions on a more appropriate forum.

Sorry about the misunderstanding. I agree now that iMovie might be a very handy tool for throwing all sorts of different things together to produce your output. Is there a way to make cursors support more than 1-bit alpha transparency?

I made a nice cursor PNG, and then I load it into an ImageIcon, use getImage() to get an Image, then use Toolkit.createCustomCursor to make my cursor, set the cursor, and I get a disappointing ugly mess.
My cursor used a bit of transparency and looked quite nice, but it seems that some class along the way decided to make my translucent pixels opaque.
There isn't a way around this is there? And why do cursor's have to be 32x32 px?? I had to take my 16x16 one and throw it in a larger image......
I suppose I don't really need a custom cursor anyway though..

Is there any way to undo the "Use this Mailbox for" action besides the undo action

My Gmail account in Mac mail was confusing me so I set the Gmail folders to be used for certain things (i.e. Drafts, Sent, Junk, Trash), but now I'd like to set it back. I can't use undo because it was a while ago. How should I go about doing this?

Wi-Fi WEP security - looking for a way to make my use more secure.

WEP - Are you using System Preferences -> Sharing -> Internet Sharing?
If you are, you cannot change the protection. It is WEP only.
I would suggest you get a dedicated router which is capable of WPA/WPA2 encryption.
If you have a short term need for Internet Sharing (such as a hotel room with ethernet, and you want to share with your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, etc...), then Internet Sharing for that is not that much of an issue. After all you are trusting the hotel network :-)

Is there a way to make secure zone content unique for user?

Hi, we have a client who wants to have a secure zone on their site which will allow them to upload images and notify the user, so that when they login they will see their particular images (in a gallery with lightbox etc) but other secure zone users cannot see their images, they will only see their own images.
I am looking at a combination of secure zone/web app/image gallery functionaity but cannot work out if this is even feasible (without some had core scripting).
Does anyone know how we can set this up?

You can do this via web-apps (placed inside a secure zone). I`ve missed many calls as its vibes are indiscernible when it`s in the holster on my belt. Is there any way to make the vibes more robust? I`ve amped up the ring volume control to no avail.

Hi. Is there a way to make the background useable? For example, you have a fullscreen only app in the background and you want/wanted (which is the correct grammar btw, those who're native speakers and why?) and you have Safari for some tutorial, is there a way to access the background app (for example if it's a drawing app you're learning).
It is possible I guess if the background is/was (which is the correct grammar again btw and why) was resizable.

Another way to be able to get to the tutorial in Safari would be to double-click the titlebar of the drawing app's window. Doing that should minimize it, dropping it into the Dock, thus making the Safari window visible. You can bring the drawing back up and front by clicking its icon in the Dock.
I can see a lot of confusion happening if it were possible to have the top window inactive and one in the back of it active. One would have to be really alert as to which window was the active one, to avoid something happening in the wrong place. I'm glad it doesn't work that way.
As far as the drawing app not behaving in accordance with Apple's guidlines re full-screen windows, well, that's on the publisher of the program. Apple publishes developer guidelines for a reason.
