Is there a way to "merge" duplicate songs in iTunes 11?

Turns out I have numerous duplicate songs in iTunes (which has been problematic for iCloud). I'm only finding one way to handle them: delete them manually. However, if I do this, it also deletes the song from any Playlist the song's in.
Is there a way to "merge" any dupes, so that my Playlists will remain intact?

Here's a way to do what you're trying to do:
Control-click on one of the duplicate songs. Scroll down and look under "Add to Playlist". There may be a "Show in Playlist" entry there. If there is, that song is in at least one playlist (which you can see by clicking the right arrow). If there is no "Show in Playlist" entry, that song is not in a playlist.

Is there a way to search separate songs in iTunes

For example, I am searching for 2 songs in a playlist that have nothing in common, artist, genre, etc. I would like to listen to just these 2 songs rather than the whole playlist. Is there a way to only get these songs to show? Does the iTunes search feature include using the word "and"?

No it doesn't. The search criteria are simply what you see when you click on the little black triangle in the search box All, Artist, Album, Composer or Song. Clicking on any one of the labels will set the search for that particular criteria: iTunes for Windows - Searching your library or a playlist

I have random songs on albums that are not being matched with Itunes Match. The songs are available in itunes, and I want to tell itunes that this song is this song on itunes. Any ideas on how to match unmatched songs?

One thing you could try if you still have the original CDs is to re-rip the discs on a different format e.g.mp3 instead of m4a or vice versa at at least 256 kbps - still no guarantee of match. The reason for using a different format is that match remembers previous uploads even those deleted from cloud some time ago.

Not sure if it's Music Match or iCloud or something else but at least half of the songs listed in iTunes are duplicates. It would take her forever to delete these. First, is there a untility or App that could take care of this task for her? Second, why did this happen and how do I prevent it from happening again?
Given time to reflect, I am thinking buying either Music Match and/or iCloud (if one or both of these is the cause of the trouble) was a mistake in that it really f-ed up both our playlists (over half the playlists on MY new laptop are from her computer-Can't.Stand.More.80s.Playlists.) and song lists. We have two very divergent music libraries and had NO need to start mixing them up. Yet cross-polinate they did to both the wife's and my near-daily annoyance. All we really needed was the 2T Airport and time machine. Which we have.

Is there any way to see which songs in itunes are linked to an itunes account as a group.

Ok, I know if you view the info on a song you can see if it is tied to a account. I'm wondering if there is a way to see them in a group or have it pulled up uner the view opitions.

I agree that it seems crazy that this can't be done on an iPhone.
Here is the best work around I have found so far.
(It's much quicker and easier to do than to describe.)
In outline, you make an elementary Automator patch
that uses your playlist folder to create a hard coded playlist on iTunes
then just sync across to your iPhone.
1/ Run Automator on your Mac.
2/ In the Automator library select 'Music'.
3/ Under Actions for 'Music' select "Get specified iTunes items" and drag this into the workflow area.
4/ Using the "Get specified iTunes items" widget in the workflow area, press the "add" button.
5/ This allows you to choose from a menu that will include your playlist folder.
6/ Now under Actions for Music select "Add songs to playlist" and drag this into the workflow area
so that the results of the first widget will feed into it.
7/ In the "Add songs to playlist" widget choose "New playlist". Then enter any name for your new playlist.
8/ Run the patch (takes a fraction of a second).
9/ Sync generated playlist to iphone.
Job done.

When iTunes Match, matches the incorrect song, is there a way of removing that song from iTunes Match and then choosing the correct song?

I have had iTunes Match now for a year. It's great. However the more I listen to my library the more songs I come across dodgy sounding songs, incorrect songs and censored songs. Especially when listening to a Kings of Leon album and the main song is incorrect on in iTunes Match! I've read that there is no cure, but when will Apple be making it correct (all in needs is a "get info" kind of thing). If deleting the albums off iTunes and iTunes Match then re-adding them in to the cloud then I can do that. In the grand scheme of things it's only a handful of songs in 20k - but albums I listen to regularly!

You don't need to access your e-mail account, just get into your Apple account and change the e-mail address. If you can't access your Apple account, then you have a bigger issue to contend with.

you aren't missing this. Show duplicates is NOT a tool to allow to simply select all and hit deleted. It is showing you the duplicates, one beside the other, to allow you to discriminate two songs having the same name but that may not be duplicate. For exemple, they may be two different version of a same song and that you want to keep them. For this reason, automated process are somehow risky to loose also song that you want to keep.

Personnally, I would still discriminate duplicated songs manually by reviewing the list of "show duplicate" to avoid deletion of song I wish to keep. I also have a quite large library and found many songs having the same name and not being duplicates.

From the backup you maintain in case something drastic happens to your collection as it surely will when your drive crashes, the computer is stolen, etc.?
Are the files in the trash? I don't let iTunes manage my music so when I delete a track I have to hunt down the file, drag it to the trash, and empty the trash in order to get rid of it. I don't know how iTunes does it for others.

Is there any way to merge 2 video layers to one without exporting?

Is there any way to merge 2 video layers into one without exporting as a new QuickTime movie? I have tried opening a blank player to copy and paste into, but it always forces it to be layered, even when I change the layer numbers both to zero. I tried extracting the video layers and omitting the audio tracks. Then I saved it as a new self contained movie. I am trying to burn the video to dvd with Roxio Easy Media Creator 9's MyDVD on WIndows XP, but I am also using a MacBook with QuickTime Pro. MyDVD will only recognize one video and audio layer at a time, hence, the other layers get skipped. There should be an easy way to merge two video layers without having to export it as a new movie, which takes 2 hours for this 2 hour TV show. Thanks for any answers.
