Is there a way to move smart previews to  different hard drive and point lightroom to them

I want to use lightroom on a surface pro. My Lightroom catalogue will be on a 64gb thumbdrive so I can use it between my stationary computer and the portable one.  Since my Smart Preview folder is much larger than 64gb, can I put it on the internal hard drive in the surface keep my catalogue on the thumbdrive and point lightroom to the smart preview folder?

No, my smart preview catalogue is 160gb and I don't want to carry around an external hard drive,  using the catalgue on a low profile thumbdrive solves the issue of using two computers,  If I can figure out away to  point the program to the smart previews, then I would be in business, since the images would synch up when I get home again.

  • My iTunes library has too much on it.  is there a way to export it to an external hard drive and play movies from there?

I have nearly filled up my hard drive with movies on itunes.  i know i can export everything to an external hard drive, but is there a way to export only the movies, delete those from my hard drive, and then play the movies with the external hard drive connected?

If they don't contain DRM, use a program such as Switch. If they do, you can't.

Is there a way to change the color of the Bezier Curves and points to a different color other than black  I find it perplexing while setting points and curves working on a photo that needs to be separated from it's background for placement on transparent backgrounds. Any thoughts?

Yes. Well, sort of: instead of a "path", set the pen tool to "shape" in the tool properties. Then set the fill colour to transparent, and the stroke colour to the colour you want. You can also set the stroke width.
Not perfect, but at least you can see the path more clearly - the anchor points and handles still remain the default colour. Open the path panel, and right-mouse click the path shape to create a selection based on that shape. The Paths panel menu also allows you to create work paths based on that shape.
Unfortunately when you try to move the handles the black thin outline appears again until you release the mouse button.
This is one of several things that works better in Photoline: in Photoline, once the path is set to a specific colour, editing the path uses the actual colour and stroke width. which is extremely handy for creating path based selection with awkward background colours and/or a high resolution screen. In Photoline the handles and bezier points are also much, much larger, which makes it rather simpler to work with as well - especially on a higher resolution screen. And when selected the handles and points are a clear red with a black outline - again easier to spot and identify. I just works better, in my opinion.

    Good idea.
    Back up first.
I would probably wait for the merge function of the latest version before merging. Be sure to verify every merge.
Merge Libraries, then from within Aperture move images to referenced on external hard drives.

Ok, fair enough.  But since Job's death - Apple's control on leaks has been terrible.  I got the new iPhone, and I like it - but it hasn't made nearly as big as an impression as previous ones.  Because of the vast ammount of leaks.  With the iPad mini leaks, it's 99% sure to come out next week.
Apple uses many manufacturers and it's massive also websites prefer to report on Apple whether true or false because it brings more hits.
Amd by "others" I meant other people on iPads - not other devices/manufacturers.  It's possible to do so, I just want to know how.  I honestly don't think we'll ever be in a Post-PC era until all tablets allow us to use USB in the way computers do.
No, USB is not the future, you missed the memo about cloud and wireless computing?

You can't fix it.  iTunes bought content is DRM protected. so it can only be played on authorized devices.  i.e devices associated with the apple Id used to purchase the content.  Its copyright protection that the rights owners demand.
Circumventing it, is illegal in most countries, and as such cannot be discussed here.  If you want to play the content you'll need to connect your computer directly to your TV, or use some other device you can authorize for iTunes content such as an iPad, iPhone , iPod touch or Apple Tv.

  • Is there a way to recover my info from my hard drive even if it won't power on?

Is there a way to recover my info from my hard drive even if it won't power on? When plugged in my computer does not power on and I am only seeing a dim amber light that is blinking. Is there a way I can recover my hard drive before sendin my computer in??

This is not something for the faint of heart. What Ogelthorpe is suggesting is that you open up your computer, remove the hard drive and then install it in a "shell" that allows you to use it as an external hard drive. This "shell" is called an enclosure. You can purchase cheap USB enclosures many places, such as at Best Buy, which has the advantage of speed if you have such a store near you. However, you can purchase better quality enclosures online, from such places as Other World Computing.
If that sounds like more than you feel comfortable with doing, pay someone else to do the job for you. Call your local Apple Store and see what they will do for you. I'm not actually sure how they handle such issues.

I've imported an iPhoto library from a disc to my iPhoto 09 account, but I have to leave the disc in to view the pictures in full screen...  Is there a way to import the files to my hard drive?

I've imported an iPhoto library from a disc to my iPhoto 09 account,
    What exactly did you do?
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • I want to remove all of my photos out of iPhoto there are approximately 35000 some imported from an old hard drive and a SD Card from my Nikon D500 how do I do this

I want to remove all of my photos out of iPhoto there are approximately 35000 some imported from an old hard drive and a SD Card from my Nikon D500 how do I do this?
    I have iPhoto version 9.1.5 (615)
    Mac OS X version 10.6.8
I want to do this because when I imported from my old hard drive there was an error message stating that 12 photos were not imported as the programm did not recognise the format even though they were jpegs like the other photos in that particular album. The dates of the photo folders are wrong I have multiple copies of photos and every time I start iPhoto I get the following message 12 photos have been found in the iPhoto library that were not imported would you like to import them No or Yes
if you press Yes the same message comes back again and if you press Yes again the program flicks to last import for 2 seconds and then opens events.
if you press No the message The photos have been placed in the folder/user/judith/pictures/iphoto Library recovered photos then if you press OK the original message 12 photos have been found.............
if you press No at this point the message The photos have been placed in the folder/user /judith/pictures/iphoto Library recovered photos_11 the end number goes up by 1 every time you go through this process
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Did you import an iPhoto Library from the old Hard Drive? Do you still have that old Library?
The way to clear out a Library is to Export the photos - Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
    For the annoying start-up message:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • How to export photos with editing from preview mode to hard drive and external hard drive?

I have applied changes to the photos in the preview mode. Unfortunately, I can't export them from preview mode to hard drive and external drives. Whenever the external drive is plugged, the changes I made are not applied to the photos on the both hard drives.

Sorry what do you mean Preview Mode? There is no Preview mode or module in LR. There is a Library and Develop module in LR. The Library module does have the ability to do some adjustments and the Develop module has all the image adjustments.
In any event to export an image you can either right click on it and select Export or when in the Library module you click the button that says Export.

  • Best way to move all music to new hard drvie and computer

I'm updating my existing computer, will be installing Vista home premium to new hard drive on new computer, using some of my existing hardware - setting up existing hard drive as secondary drive to move data over - I was hoping to backup all itunes files to the hard drive and then restore from backup to new drive but I can only backup to DVD - which i dont want to do. Once Itunes is setup on the new computer, whats the best way to move all files from the old directory without losing the purchased folder and all settings? thanks.
      Windows XP Pro

Make the drive name the same as the old one, or point to the first file when asked. PR will then find the rest of the files, at least if they are in the same directory.

  • Best way to move to a larger external hard drive

Hi everyone, I currently have my masters on an external hard drive and want to move them to a larger hard drive.  What is the best way to move them so that aperture will still be able to find them?  Just clone the drive using something like carbon copy?   Can I just start using the new larger hard drive and not have to take any other steps? Thanks.

To move Aperture library read this.
Scroll down until you reach Aperture because this one site tell you how to move a bunch of libraries.

  • Is there a way to run Vista on an External Hard Drive?

Am a Mac Newbie with some PC application baggage...
It was my understanding that "Macs" could boot from either internal and external hard drives. I thought I could (somehow) install Vista on a partition on an external hard drive and simply connect it to my Mac Book Pro when I wanted to boot from it.
My objective is to minimize (or avoid) the impact of a PC environment installed my MBP, yet still allow periodic "native" or virtual access to a PC environment as needed. And, perhaps, to use any remaining space on the external hard drive for backup storage...
Am not seeing any references to this type of setup...is any part of this possible?
If I understand the threads correctly, Boot Camp only installs Vista to the internal hard drive. And while Microsoft limits the virtual use of Vista to their Business and Ultimate editions, will virtual manager programs such as Fusion or Parallels allow me to put the PC environment on an external hard drive to plug and play as needed?
I thought native would be simpler...but maybe the route to go may be virtual management to get Windows on an external hard drive?
    Thanks.

Got resolved in the Boot Camp Forum ny Stefan...evidently Microsoft has restricted Windows (XP and Vista) to not be able to be booted from external HDs.
Stefan pointed out that here is however, a way to achieve this my objective however, see here: http://tubeshards.wordpress.com/2006/12/05/install-windows-to-a-macintosh-usb-dr ive/
Although this is for XP, Stefan thinks it should also work for Vista.
Parallels and/or Fusion will allow me to put the Windows Vista VM nearly anywhere, which includes external HDs.
The external HD has to be formated as HFS+ (the OSX file system) but it is possible to partition the external HD to two or more partitions and use these partitions for backup etc.

  • How to move referenced photos to external hard drive and maintain "faces"

I created an iphoto library on an external hard drive.  I chose not to copy imported photos to iphoto (reference instead) under iphoto preferences.   I dragged a large folder of photos from my internal hard drive to iphoto and spent countless hours adding faces to all the photos.  I now decide i want these pictures referenced from the external drive too, not the internal.   I moved the file of folders to my external drive and of course iphoto now cant find these referenced pictures.   I do "find photo" and point to where i moved these photos on the external drive and all works, until i close iphoto and restart it.  (in other words, iphoto doesnt remember the new location i pointed to)
Is there a way to move the referenced photos to the external drive and still have iphoto faces work correctly?
    thanks

This is just one of the many reasons that a referenced library is not recommended with iPhoto
it has been reported that File Buddy - http://www.skytag.com/ - can help resolve the broken aliases - I have not used - as always backup before messing with your iPhoto library
