Is there a way to override the admin password in Tiger?

hi,
i have a 2004 eMac 1.25 GHz running OS X 10.4.11. however, i do not have the admin password, so i am not able to carry out admin tasks like installing new software etc. i was told that i can actually override this if i upgrade the OS to snow leopard. is that true? are there other ways to actually change the admin account or change the password?
thanks for any help.

Hi, do you have the 10.4.x Install Disc, you really need it.
Reset OS X Password Without an OS X CD...

It'll boot like a newly setup Mac, but all your stuff should still be there once filling out the stuff.

  • Is there a way to change the admin password if you don't know the old one?

This situation is a nightmare. I sold my iBook G3 lime green clamshell on eBay recently, and my buyer was a complete idiot. She sent me the computer back because she was a complete moron and couldn't figure out how to use it, so I accepted the computer back and gave her a full refund.
When I ship out computers to the new buyers, I always do a erase and a fresh install, so when they receive the computer, they get the welcome screen. Well, of course she went through the whole process of completing her personal information, including her admin password. Well, the jerk forgot to mention to me what her password is so I could alter it to my information.
Now I am trying to contact her and she isn't responding. It has been over 3 days. Is there ANY way that I can bypass this glitch? I have the original install disks, so I can do it that way? I will be so angry if I am stuck not having a password for this computer that was originally mine to begin with (and is now mine again), especially if I want to resell.
    HELP.

Thanks. I had already accessed that after I posted this just from googling it. But I am in the process of doing a fresh install. I just rebooted holding down the C key so I can do it that way. I need to get my information in there anyway, not hers, and since I just received it a few days ago, I didn't add anything on there yet.
What a hassle, but at least I know it's possible.
    Thanks for responding.

  • Is there a way to change the VNC password thru unix command in ARD2?

In a local network, I get access denied errors from macs that have the vnc password different than the Administrative login user password. I needed to change the Admistrator password which I did thru the Unix command in ARD2.
    Now.
Is there a way to change the VNC password thru unix command in ARD2?
    Example:
    remote computer setup
    Panther 10.3.9
    vnc password - gopher
user ID - testARD with admin rights
    user password - backdoor
    ARD2 Computer setup
    10.4.10
    login ID - testARD
    password - backdoor
I get the blue icon but get an 'access denied' error.
I change the password from backdoor to gopher.
I get the red with dash icon but, can get access to the computer.
What is going on? Is ARD2 using the VNC resource instead of ARDs resources?

A quick search of Google finds this <http://www.macgeekery.com/tips/cli/settingremote_desktops_vnc_password_interminal>. I have not tested this myself.

We're assuming that the user's hardware signature line is correct and accurate, the OP may very well have upgraded to Lion and/or Mt. Lion.
Or, you can just use the Google machine on the Internet device and search for the article that explains how to reset the admin password for Snow Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
    Kbase searching = awesome

  • Is there a way to find the administrater password using terminal

i dont know, how do you find it out. I dont have the cd, and I really need to know soon
    ibook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.1)
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

Not that I know of. What you want would pose a security vulnerability. You need to find your OS CD. Actually, any Mac OS X CD would probably work just to reset the admin password.

  • I just upgraded to Lion. I was trying to set up the iCloud and it asked for my "login" keychain password. I've never been asked for that before. I've tried every password I can think of and nothing works. Is there a way to reset the keychain password?

I just upgraded to Lion. I was trying to set up iCloud and it asked for my "login" keychain password. I've never been asked for the keychain password before. I've tried every password I can think of and nothing works. I'm normally asked for the password to my machine when upgrading software, signing on, etc. but this is different apparently. I tried the same password and it didn't work either. I read a couple of posts and they all want to take me through Applications/Utilities but that requires knowing your password in order to change it. I don't know it. Don't remember ever setting up a keychain password. Does anyone know how to change the keychain password if you don't know the keychain password???

Most of the time your Keychain password is the same as your login password. If you configured your computer to log you in automatically, you may not have used your login password in so long you forgot it.
There is no way to retrieve the "login" Keychain password, but you can reset the Keychain from the Preferences menu: select it in the Keychain Access menu and select "Reset My Default Keychain". This will create a new, empty Keychain but the old one will be saved should you ever remember its password.
The result of this is that you will have to supply passwords for everything that requires it, since without your Keychain they will no longer automatically fill themselves. However, once you supply them and store them in your new Keychain, they will be remembered.

  • Is there any way to reset my admin password?

My wife somehow changed the password I had set up for her, and doesn't remember it. Without the password, I can't do updates.
I found something that said you can change the password with an Apple ID, but the option to do that stays grayed out even after I have entered her Apple ID.
Any suggestions? Can an Apple Store reset it for me?

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • Is there a way to override the format-mask error message? (oracle forms 6i)

It seem that if data is enter in a field and doesnt follow the format mask schema. it populates it's default error message.
was wondering if i can over ride that. and custimize my own error message/validation.

    Hi PandaOracle
what i do recommand is creating a table called e.g handel_errors having
    Serial PK
    Error_id
Error_textThen using a code in On-error Trigger & On-message trigger to select from table so any error no can be stored and selected from the db this is the most formal practice i used to use in any application.
    Example
    DECLARE
      alert_message VARCHAR2(200);
    BEGIN
      BEGIN
        SELECT Error_text
          INTO alert_message
          FROM handel_errors
         WHERE msg_code = message_code;
      EXCEPTION
        WHEN No_Data_Found THEN
          alert_message:=message_type||'-'|| To_Char(message_code) || ': ' || message_text;
      END;
MESSAGE (alert_message); --  Or any alert as previously mentioned
      MESSAGE (alert_message);
    END; Hope this helps,

  • Is there any way to override the Toshiba Power Management with the Windows Power Management???

Have an older P25-S607 and would prefer more control over the power management.....that I can get with Windows....any suggestions?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for the obvious reminder   That was a duh moment.  It's easy to forget the simple sometimes when you get involved in troubleshooting when it's not something you do on a daily basis that's for sure.  The Toshiba controls have been fine for the life of the Toshiba laptops we have had, but I always felt they were a little limited on options IMHO.
In this instance I needed to utilize some of the added XP options as this laptop actually had the hinge 'sprung' a little and didn't "shut down" or hibernate when you closed the lid.....changed hubby's "normal procedure" for utilizing this "shop laptop" so he didn't overheat and fry the hard drive which is what I believe happened originally to the system that had been working fine until the hard drive was fried.  Changed it out, reloaded everything for him only to have the system need to be reformatted again within a week as windows took over.  As I was investigating causes I realized the malfunction.  Not sure of the how or why, but now have automated shut down backups if he forgets to shut down when he shuts the lid and walks away.   So far so good

  • Is there a way to 'Override' deployments(both SOA & UI) from EM

    Hi
    Hope you are doing good.
I have a peculiar problem, might be due to the firewall in the client's datacenter.
I could create an Application Server Connection in Jdev, test it properly. When I try to deploy using that server connection, it even lists the servers in the host, but after last step it fails saying 'Make sure the server is up and running'. Despite the fact that the server is up and running!
So I thought of deploying both the BPM & UI prj's from EM.
I could do it but the problem is, every time I have to undeploy the existing ones and deploy the new ones. This is consuming a lot of time and effort.
Is there a way to 'Override' the deployments? just like the one we have in Jdeveloper?
    Appreciate your response!
    Regards
    RaviKiran

    Hi Ravi
    1. Are you UnDeploying the existing Workflow JAR and EAR. If so, you will loose all your old Workflow instances for that Process. I hope you have separate files for your application like one for Workflow SCA JAR file and one for TaskForms EAR that has all projects except for worfklow project. Now you can uninstall or reinstall EAR anytime. But workflow has to be ReDeployed only and that too selecting option to Resume Old Instances. Otherwise it will stale all old instances.
I hope you got the point. You can NEVER undeploy the Workflow Project unless if you do not care or need the old instances.
The issue with Jdeveloper is very least. Infact I do NOT prefer direct deployment from JDeveloper. Instead from JDeveloper deploy them as JAR and EAR. Then from EM console, deploy these 2 files and infact that is how it will be in Production. Am I right. If you are developer, you will NOT have production admin access. All you do is generate JAR, EAR and give to adminstrators.
    Thanks

Call Apple with the Serial and they will send you the ones that came with the Mac. Or search the Net.

  • Is there a way to affect the URL used when running a report subscription?

We are using SQL Server 2008 R2.  I am finding out that when running a report subscription to extract a file in csv format, an extra blank line is created at the bottom (i.e., extra line feed), and the mysterious BOM characters also get inserted at
the beginning.  Both of these "features" are causing problems with a client's import of these files.  Of course, it affects multiple clients.
I have done some research and have found information on how to edit the rsconfigserver file to render CSV files using ASCII and to not use Excel formatting.  This removes both "features"/problems stated above.
However, editing the server config file will affect all csv extractions on that report server.  Is there a way to control the URL of a specific report subscription to include these values (so only the reports that need the fix get it)?  For example,
someone gave this URL as an example of how to add parameters including encoding in the URL.   http://MyReportServer/ReportServer?%2fReport+Folder%2fReportName&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=CSV&rc:Encoding=ASCII
Is there a way to have the report subscription run the report using a URL like this so it extracts it without the BOM characters?  I was thinking a data driven subscription would allow me to set the values like this, but these parameters are only pertinent
AFTER the report is run and only needed for the final rendering.  Not sure how to do this. Maybe it's not possible. If it's not, that's fine.  I just need to write a proposal to our DBA's to talk them into making a couple edits to the server config
    file.
Has anyone ever worked around this before in SSRS?
    Thank you!!
    Dana

    Hi DanaSSRS,
According to your description, you want to have some report exported into CSV file with ASCII encoding when running a subscription. Right?
In Reporting Services, when we run the subscription, it will call the Render Extension as we configured in rsreportserver.config file, we can't set the Render format with ASCII Encoding on subscription level. As you said, the Render Extension we configured
in the rsreportserver.config will apply to all reports. In this scenario, you only want that extension apply to specific reports. For your requirement, we suggest you add a custom Render Extension in configure file. You just need to copy the CSV Extension
and add a <OverrideNames/> to override a new name. Then set the <Encoding> in <Configure>. And you can select this custom Extension when creating the subscription. This might be the most effective workaround.

Customizing Rendering Extension Parameters in RSReportServer.Config

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

You can user RMAN to recover your spfile, see Note 372996.1 Using RMAN to Restore and Recover a Database When the Repository and Spfile/Init.ora Files Are Also Lost, RMAN is able to startup the instance even when there is no spfile/pfile, then you can recover your spfile from your last backup.
