How to use the MacBook Pro with Retina Display as the screen for the Xbox 360 any cables, or adapters that do this, I prefer it to be under $40 if possible

Purchase an external DVD drive and attach it to your rMBP. Or you can purchase the Apple model specifically made for it:

I'd like to digitize audio from a minidisc player into my 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with retina display, but can't see a way to change the internal mic input. I understand that previous MacBooks allowed the headphone jack to double as a mic input, but mine doesn't seem capable of switching. I've tried using a mini to mini cable, with no luck, and also tried using a headset splitter adapter (3.5 mm 4-pin to 2x3-pin 3.5 mm headset splitter adapter from Amazon) because I read that that would allow me to plug in headphones and input audio. But in both cases, the only "input" available in my sound preferences is the built-in internal microphone. Am I missing something? Is there a way to digitize audio through the headphone jack?
Not likely. headphone jacks are usually output only devices unless specifically stated to support input, and even then, it may not be audio input that they support, but merely control input for volume and such.

Actually you could get student discount from apple and a 10% dicksmith with limited time and I think jb hi fi gives even better discount. But lets see what other people think?

Does the iTunes Now Playing Dock notification work on the macbook pro with retina display?
Hi, this command used to work on my old 2011 MacBook Pro, but now when I try it on my new retina display macbook, the Dock resprings everytime i pause or play a song in iTunes.

is it not compatible with the new retina display OSX Lion?This is not a problem with Retina nor Mountain Lion. I have the exact same problem with my MBP 13 inch early 2011 running Lion.
Everytime I play/pause in iTunes, Finder restarts. Everytime a new song starts playing, Finder restarts.
I've contacted Apple Support in Denmark, but since I do not have a paid-plan with the Apple Support, the guy sent me instructions on how to reinstall the OS.

Boots to black in OS X mode (I believe 10.10.2? tough to check right now). I can boot into Windows 8 using Boot Camp without incident. I have booted to Disk Utility and run Disk and Permissions Repair. I have booted into Diagnostics, and no issues were found (ADP000 was the Reference Code given). I reset the PRAM, which gave a louder chime than I had been getting when failing to start up OS X, but otherwise no change. Feeling that my options were exhausted, I attempted to restore from Time Capsule, and it won't connect to Time Capsule, despite Time Capsule being the active router whose network I am connected to. Please advise.

Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should install the version of OS X that you had installed.
Be sure you only work on the OS X volume, not your Windows volume. I cannot tell you if you will still be able to boot the Windows volume after the above. You will need to find a fix for that. -

I will need to buy a new laptop for school and since they have a new model for the 15 inch laptop, I was wondering whether theywil update the 13 inch model as well.
I lament it is against the TOS on this site to speculate on unannounced Apple products. Not only could it be a wonderful market litmus test for Apple to utilize (for free) but what better online board exists to let the company we pay a premium to be a part of know what we as the consumers would like to see next?

I am thinking about purcashing the new Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display. I would like to know if "Sims 3" and its' expansions packs are playable on this mac with the assistance of an Apple USB Superdrive.
Yes, The Sims 3 and all its expansions are perfectly playable on the MacBook Pro with Retina display (though I don't recommend installing it using Remote Disc as it will take a couple of hours at best to completely install everything).
Playing it at 2880 x 1800 makes everything look great... except for the incredibly small UI elements. The game looks slightly fuzzy at 1440 x 900, which is to be expected given how Apple handles scaling with the Retina display. If you can't live with the fuzziness, you'll have to find a happy medium between 1440 x 900 and 2880 x 1800. And hey, if you decide you can play it at 2880 x 1800, more power to you! -

Is there a way to hook up a xbox 360 to a macbook pro? I'm about to move to college and I don't have a tv but I want to play my xbox if its possible.
I have an E-Bay Cheap mouse (Speedlink) and a PCWorld cheap keyboard (Advent) both connected at the same time.
These both connected at the same time when first installed - but on subsequent connections one is required to be deleted and re-added.
Have you tried connecting one, deleting the other and then re-pairing? -
i just bought a new Macbook Pro and loaded all my info from My old Macbook...now i can't remember for the life of me my Admin Password (which i created 3 years ago)...is there ANY WAY to bypass this on my new Macbook Pro and begin again...?
I assume that you don't have the installation discs, so:
1. Reboot
2. Hold command + s key down after you hear the chime.
3. When you get a text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
(Type these commands very carefully)
mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -h now
4. You will go through the setup process again, create a new admin account, login to it and then change your existing account password or whatever else you need to do. You can delete the account you made in this process, or not. -
I am programmer and I am using dr java on my mac-book pro with retina display but dr java doesn't support retina display, what is the possible way to solve this ?
I have made some progress.... I can print wirelessly from my printer now, but I can't set the printer itself to be wireless. I had to move my printer downstairs to where my router is...which is not that convient. I printed up the page you asked about....and as expected, it says it is off line and there is no IP address. So now I need to figure out how to make my printer itself wireless. I did download the HP driver I needed...but I can't access it to do anything else. It seems l like I am missing a step... or I need to hook up my computer itself to the printer to help get the printer to be wirelss, but I can't hook it up because there is no port for me to do that (no port that looks like a phone jack). I am guessing I would need a different type of cord, but I am not sure what kind of cord that would be! Ugh!

having trouble updating my ipad comes up with an error msg 3259 and a network timed out msg. im using windows vista and i have followed the instructions on the apple site about turning of all my firewalls but still having no luck with updating to 4.2
