Is there a way to prevent my macbook pro from entering sleep mode when I close it??

I want to use it with a mirrored display so I have no need for my laptop to be open. Thanks

Connecting an external monitor and USB keyboard will prevent sleep with the lid closed. You can also use a software utility like Wake Up 1.0.0 UB or Caffeine.

  • Macbook Pro Randomly Enters Sleep Mode For A Few Seconds

    Hi All,
My Macbook Pro has had this problem since a few months after I purchased it. While working or playing the laptop will randomly go into what seems like sleep mode. The screen turns off, I hear the hard drive stop and then a couple seconds later it starts back up on its own. Any Internet connection I had disconnects, but other than that it starts up as normal.
The problem comes and goes and doesn't seem to be consistent with anything that I'm aware of. Sometimes it happens once, then doesn't happen for days. Often it will happen several times in a row over the course of an hour.
I've called support and brought the laptop to the genius bar where they ran several tests, but were unable to figure anything out. Research online has shown similar issues with other users, but no solutions. The laptop is not stacked on anything magnetic, the issue occurs when running hot or cold and whether I'm on battery power or plugged in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If this can't be resolved is it something I can bring to apple and get a replacement under my year warranty?

  • Is there a way to prevent a PDF file from being forwarded?

is there a way to prevent a PDF file from being forwarded? For example, im a personal trainer and if i send a client a plan via PDF file, i want to make sure that they cannot send it to anyone else. I read about how you can secure a file by creating an ID and then having the recipient create an ID as well, but i would like to make the orocess as easy as possible for my clients and not have to have them create an ID and then send it to me. is there a better way to block the recipient from resending the PDF?

    Hi Kiana,
As such there is no option to prevent the recipients from forwarding the pdf. However you can refer to this blog How do I prevent someone from forwarding a PDF?, it might be of some help.

  • Is there any way to prevent opening the lid from waking my MBP?

    Hi,
I have a problem with my screen on my MBP such that when the computer is asleep in its case the lid often comes ajar, wakes the computer, and drains the battery. Is there any way to prevent the lid opening from waking the computer?
Thanks for any ideas on how to fix this.

Option 3: Open Applications > Terminal and type sudo pmset lidwake 0 (you'll be prompted to enter your admin password). To revert to wake on lid open, use the Terminal command sudo pmset lidwake 1.

  • Is there a way to prevent an end-user from changing their own password?

All you guru's out there, I need your help. Is there a way to prevent an end-user from changing their own password? Is there a function or procedure I can create or what?

In this case, you do not want someone (whoever they are DBA etc) to connect as that
particuler user to change the password.Yes, but I wouldn't expect the users to[i] know that password. The connnect would be handled automatically, behind the scenes.
The clear implication of the OP's question and response was that users would not be allowed to change their own passwords. I'm guessing this is in response to a policy that says users mustn't have simple passwords like 123abc or mom. In such a scenario a better approach would be to apply regexp to a user's password to ensure it contains a mix of letters, numbers, punctuation, etc to achieve the desired level of complexity.
So questions, should not be regarded as daft Agreed, but the same is unfortunately not always true of business decisions. As the OP has told us not to ask we cannot know why they want to do this. Personally, I think a user's individual password should always be their responsibility; anything else strikes me as insecure. YMMV.
    Cheers, APC

Hey I love to stream my itunes through the basestation but, is there a way to stream my macbook pros audio so I can hear things playing from my safari or final cut or whatever other program to the speakers in airport??? Thanks

Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil should do just what you want. I use if for streaming things like Slacker and Pandora through my Airport Express. It's not free but it's well worth the price. You can try it out for a few minutes (then the sound degrades) to see if it works for you.

  • My macbook pro 2.0 early 2011 will not go to sleep with the power source connected. only enters sleep mode when running on battery. Someone did this happen, and it could solve?

Alo, my Macbook pro i7 2 GHz Intel Core i7 (early 2011) will not go to sleep with the power source connected. only enters sleep mode when running on battery. Someone did this happen, and it could solve?

There is no output from that command line?   Maybe the pid changed.
I'll repeat what I am trying to find out...
    1. You do a pmset -g on the terminal.
    2. The output from that pmset should have a line that says "sleep 0 (imposed by n)" where n is some number.
    3. The ps ax | grep n is supposed to display what the process associated with n is.
It's the output from step 3 that should indicate what is causing you not to sleep.
But speaking of sleep, that's where I am going.

  • When changing "browser.newtab.url" is there any way to prevent the address bar from getting focus?

When I change "browser.newtab.url" to about:home and open a new tab, focus is set to the address bar not the search box on the firefox home page. The same thing happens if i change the url to google.com or another search engine. Is there any way to prevent this from happening.

Custom new Tab has a small bug if the start page is exactly the same as the new tab page. Then the focus of the start page is on the address bar. Just leave the "www." out in the startpage and use "www." in the new tab page then it works perfectly. e.g.
    Startpage: google.com
    new Tab page : www.google.com
Now the focus of the start page is on the search box.

  • Is there a way to prevent a Blackberry SIM from working in other smartphones?

    Hi all,
Just a quick question here - we've tested and found that a SIM card with an iPhone/Android data plan on it won't work in Blackberry (at least not the data portion) but is there a way to prevent a card associated with a BES/BIS data plan from working in other Smartphones?  The data use is the big issue for us.
I know this should be as simple as telling our users they're forbidden to do so, but... they're users, and we've had a few go a bit rogue...
    Thanks
    Environment:  Bell Mobility, BESX, ActiveSync
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Sparq,
Current BlackBerry smartphones require access to BIS or BES, which requires special data plans, which is why the iPhone/Android data plans don't work, but as far as I know, the same restriction doesn't exist going the other way. Your best bet would be to call your service provider (in your case, Bell?) and see if they have the ability to apply a restriction on their end. That's really the best chance you'd have for blocking them out.
Of course, if it's a serious enough issue, your company's CEO and management team could make it an offense that could result in the termination of a position as it technically could be considered theft of company assests.

  • Is there a way to prevent Gift Voucher Email from going to Spam folder?

Everytime I send an email to someone with a Gift Voucher or Discount Code from the system generated emails, they always end up in the Spam folder on GMail, Yahoo, etc.
Is there a way to prevent emails from being labeled as Spam with this system?

    Hi Mario,
    We have this problem too.
We have a vaid From email address and ours is hoted with you and your info link above says "If you are choosing to host your domain with us there is no need to do anything here. Based on our system architecture we are generating that SPF record so that all the emails sent from this domain will have include all the IPs from where emails are being sent and make sure that you will pass the SPF check."
Yet our gift vouchers and also our newsletters are ALL going to spam. It's happening to both our business catalyst sites - so is Business Catalyst being marked as a spammer and affecting us?

  • Is there a way to prevent an Airport Extreme from dropping an inactive device

I have the latest Airport Extreme with the latest software versions. Connected wirelessly are 2 iMacs, 2 iPads, 2 iPhones, and a printer.
Is there a way to prevent the AE from dropping an inactive device?
If any of the normally connected devices are inactive for several hours, they have to reconnect to the AE. It does not seem to cause any problems with the iMac's other than a nuisance but the iPads and iPhone occasionally seem to have a problem and it can take several minutes to reconnect to the AE.

Set dhcp reservations for each device. Beyond that there is nothing you can do in the AE to stop the device dropping out.. it is an issue on the client not the AE.
But something is wrong for it to take several minutes to connect.
What device in your network is the router? Is it the AE? (BTW the latest AE is not gen5 as per your profile.. but Gen6).
If the main modem is also a router and you have the AE setup in bridge, then all controls are in the router.
Some routers are set with a limited number of DHCP addresses and it will take time to expire one address for another to join.. check if that is the problem. But setting dhcp reservation as I suggested should fix it.
No luck.. then loads more info on the network .. modem.. make and model.. what role it has in the network.. ie is it also router?
    AE setup?
Is the problem new or has it been ongoing since an upgrade to something.

  • HT3131 Is there a way to clamshell a macbook pro without peripherals?

I got a MacBook Pro from a coworker to make sure that a project works on Mac OS X and would like to not have the lid open all the time to protect it and to save space on my desk. Is there some way to get the machine to not sleep when the lid is closed *without* peripherals?

I had seen that page, but was unsure if there was some other way and couldn't find anything. Also, that page has no reasoning for *why* what I wanted was *technically* impossible (all of my other laptops and netbooks need to be manually suspended) since I'm fine twiddling hidden knobs for such support. Requiring peripherals seemed arbitrary to me since computers are still useful without displays.

  • Is there any way to wipe my MacBook Pro?

My dad bought me a MacBook Pro from a pawn shop. Everything is under the old owners name and i cant install anything without it. I dont know who the person is so is there any way to wipe my Mac clean?

To see what is installed select About This Mac from the Apple menu. You should see the information in the open panel. To do what you want requires a Snow Leopard DVD:
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Yosemite if you wish.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
