Is there a way to quickly activate/deactivate certain plugins?

a site wants me to install the VLC plugin for safari to watch their streaming videos. fine. VLC is nice.
unfortunately the plugin insists on handling all quicktime files and mp3 as well once activated, which blows. I wonder if there is either a quick way to tell it to only handle its very own vlc file format inside safari or to quickly install/uninstall (=activate/deactivate) the plugin.

Yes. Create a new subdirectory (folder) in ~/Library named "Internet Plug-Ins (Disabled)"; then move the VLC plugin into that folder when you want to deactivate it. Just be aware in advance that you may have to restart Safari for it to recognize this item being disabled, as well as if/when you enable it again.

Ah somewhat confusing. Your question seemed to indicate you were looking for a way to disable the mic, not that it wasn't working with some apps.
Have you tried any of the Apple apps, Garage Band or Dictation? Do they work? If the input volume indicator under the mic in System Preferences is moving in response to your voice then the problem is not that the mic is disabled or muted, the sound is getting into the system.
Does the Input Volume move while you have one of the non-working apps opened? Have you installed any 3rd party sound apps or kernel extensions?
Are the mic settings in Audio MIDI setup 44100.0 HZ and 2ch-24 bit?
I would start by seeing if the mike works with one of the apps I mentioned above or download something like Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder to test it out.

Lojack for laptops - if that is the product you purchased and installed, you will need to read the user manual or contact the manufacturer as it is 3rd party. You did file a police report right?

I would do it manually. As you can see from turingtest2's post, some duplicates are not really duplicates.
I would also review how you add media to iTunes. It should not be producing all that many duplicates.

I wanted to first thank you for this, as this is the only workaround literature that seems to be floating around out there. With that said, I know it is a big ask, but is there any way that you could create a video showing step by step how to do what you do? I have several tracks that are stuck in waiting mode, and if left in itunes, will never upload or match...they only cause the upload process to hang up and restart. I've tried leaving it for days...I've tried converting the files, signing in and out of itunes (and itunes match), updating itunes match, and I tried your technique...unfortunately to no avail. Perhaps I didn't do your technique correctly. I used audacity to reverse the audio.
ANY help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

You won't be able to activate it even if you do jailbrake it. There's no way around activation lock without the assistance of the prior owner.

Yes but you will have to create some custom JavaScript to do this.
Also you should be aware that the "Required" property is only processed when the form is submitted to a scripted web page or "mailto:" process.

I often am working on large import from photo shoot in previous hours or day and don't want to leave the import or collection to edit anything else, when sure enough, I am asked to handle an emergency edit or tune up of a single or small number of images that would only take a few minutes. I don't want to do this and then have to reload my current large import/collection as I am totally focused on it and it would interrupt my workflow, etc. I am missing something or is there no way to load a quick image for touch up without having to leave your current large project? My project has TTS notes that are marked up with VTML tags. (For every line, I have at least 2 VTML tags to slow the speed of the spoken text because there is no way to change the spoken-text speed of the entire slide at once, let alone the entire project... : ( For this issue alone, I am looking at switching to Storyline.) Anyway, I also have CC notes, which are essentially identical to the TTS notes, but minus the tags.
Question: Is there a way to copy and paste the TTS notes to the CC notes without doing 1 line at a time? The problem with changing the notes under the heading "notes" is that you are changing both the TTS and CC notes at the same time, and for me these two will look very different. In the end, I need to keep the TTS notes with all of their tags, and I need to have CC notes, which of course do not have the tags. If I could, with a single click, copy and paste all of the TTS notes to CC notes, all I would have to do is delete all of the tags..
I am hoping that I am missing something that will make this a lot easier. Next time I will create the CC notes first, but originally the customer didnt want them..

I have a shared everything plan 40GB. I live in the middle of nowhere. I homeschool and need to do a lot online. Area monopolized by satellite which is an awful but necessary evil. When it rains, forget TV or internet. They do still offer dialup. Ha! Anyway, so I chose this plan and it has been "okay". The signal is spotty and the 4G I was told I would get is hardly what I get on my phone when I am in the main cities. Still, we make do.
Here is my current dilemma. My elderly mother in law is staying with us for... a while. She is not a pro, but she can certainly get online. Of course, I have passwords (of my own making). My kid put a password on her laptop when she said she needed to check email. Well, it turns out that granny likes to play online games. The ones that stream. She sucked up all 40 GB in a few short days. Uploads, downloads, you name it. She has been told time and again that the usage was OVER. That she had to wait for it to roll over. She was still going online. I was in a panic with the emails about overages, etc. I had to disconnect the boxes and take out the batteries, just to be sure.
I do know that the boxes can be configured to only work with the mac addresses you designate. That's great. I did that with the first one, but not yet with the newer one, b/c it was only my husband, myself and kids-we are all VERY clear on usage. So, yeah..the one she has been using is the newer one b/c we trusted she would listen to what we told her.
My question is this: Is there any way that I can create a dedicated user "account & password" to her and then limit THAT usage? I know something kind of like this can be done for kids phones, but no clue about boxes. I really don't want to have to block her, but I cannot afford to sacrifice my kids education b/c she wants to play games. My spouse will never deny his mom anything, but he gets mad when told the usage is gone after a week. My usage is about to roll over again and I NEED it.
I asked a rep on "live chat" & they couldn't help-told me to call. I will call, but prefer to do it during the week, when no one will "overhear" and get offended. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Windchimes74, oh wow! That is a lot of usage in a short amount of time. We do have a great application called Family Base. You can restrict the amount of time/amount of usage that a particular device can be used. By doing this you can put a limit when Mom is online. Once the jetpack reaches that limit it will not allowed to be downloading anything else. This package is $5 a month for the whole account. It is an awesome feature that I myself use for many lines on my account.

Is there a way to quickly locate a clip on the timeline back to the bin?

Unfortunately I try to equate FCP with adobe premiere pro (I need to let it go), but one thing I always did find useful was right clicking on a clip in the timeline and saying "locate". It took me straight to the raw footage in the capture bin.
Is there anyway of doing something like this in FCP. I've located it using "finder" but it takes me to the folder where it's stored rather than the bin.

The functionality you're looking for is Reveal Master Clip. The shortcut for that is Shift-F.
However, this depends on your not breaking the link between the master clip (what's in the Browser, as mentioned) and the affiliate clip (what you're clicking on in your sequence). One common way (in FCP 5.x or earlier) of breaking that link was to copy a sequence over from another project, as the clips from that copied-over sequence all become Master Clips (meaning Shift-F won't work). Also, if you import sequences via XML (because you're swapping stuff with another station), there will be no Master Clips to link back to (that info is not contained in the XML).
With those caveats in mind, you should be good to go with a simple Shift-F.
