Is there a way to really empty the Photo Library on an iPad?

I wanted to delete a couple hundred photos in the Photo Library on my iPad 3.
In the Photos app on the iPad, I used the "tap-to-select" method and trashed some of the photos, but this was way too slow, so I connected the iPad to my iMac via USB cable, and from within iTunes synced the iPad Photos to an empty folder. This cleared out the Camera Roll. (The "Photo Database" it created in the empty folder contains 892 bytes). The app window now says "No Photos or Videos."
In Settings/General/Usage/Photos & Camera/, the three menu items now show:
Camera Roll - 0 bytes
Photo Library - 642 MB
Photo Stream - 0 bytes
There, doing a "swipe-to-the-left" on the Photo Library bar brings up a red DELETE button. Hitting the button has no effect. It just takes me back to the previous menu (Photos & Camera) which also still shows 642 MB.
I have opened Preview.app on the iMac and looked in the iPad. There is nothing to delete.
Also, I opened Image Capture.app and had a look in the iPad. There is nothing to delete.
The Photos & Camera menu still indicates 642 MB are used.
Thanks for any suggestions.

sberman: My iMac is running iTunes 11.0.2 already. As well, the Photos tab in the iTunes window shows that "Sync Photos from" is un-checked. And in the box to the right of it is the greyed-out empty folder that I previously synced to in order to remove photos from the Camera Roll.
Ralph9430: I did a reset (Home + Sleep) earlier when I was trying everything I could think of. I have also re-synced a couple of times. No luck.
Thanks anyway. I was hoping someone out there would tell me they've experienced the same problems (non-functioning DELETE button, and persistent data in Photo Library), even if they haven't found a solution. Then I could assume it's a iOS 6 bug. All I can think of to do next is a full iPad restore.

    Thanks for your reply
    I solved my problem,
Definitely a bug in syncing through itunes.
    - Connect Iphone with MacBook Pro through USB
    - Go to iphone on itunes, photos, deselect photo synchronization.
    - Sync (all pics will be removed from iphone)
    - Close itunes, iphoto, disconnect iphone
    - Select in finder: (home)-pictures-iphoto library.
    - Sec click on iphoto library and choose "show package contents"
    - Delete iPod Photo Cache
    - Close finder
    - Empty trash
    - Reconnect iphone
    - Allow photo synchronization again and everything works smooth.
After this, changes made in iphoto are instantaneously reflected in iphone photos.
Once every hundred photos, one gets detached from iphoto and then changes are no longer reflected (buggy) :-(
In this case I erase the photo in iphoto, sync, go back to iphoto trash, reestablish the photo from the trash and sync again.
Hope this improves. Still have to try cloud though.
    Thanks

  • Is there a way to detect all the photos already transferred to double (or triple) in iPhoto, so do not occupy space unnecessarily? Thank you from France.

Look in you main photo library. Are there doubles or triple photos there? If so delete the extras.
All photos are stored in the photo library. When you move a photo into an album the photo is not duplicated. The album contains a pointer back to the original photos. These pointers or aliases take up very little space.

Terence, thanks that site is a gem...have to explore it more fully at home as it drove security here crazy
Looks like just the ticket for saving mistakes.

  • When clearing a form, is there a way to also clear the photos?

I have an existing form created using Adobe Pro's form creation. This contains a label tool for adding photos.  When I clear the form, the photos remain. Is there a way to clear out the photos of a form after one has already been linked?
    Thanks,

OK I understand what you are saying, but I am not as Java Savy as I would like to be.
I have created the hidden blank icon. Based on another users similar question, I used the following script that you provided for him for the buttonGetIcon Field Method.
    var oIconClear = getField("buttonClear").buttonGetIcon({nFace: 0});
    getField("Picture 1a").buttonSetIcon({oIcon: oIconClear, nFace: 0});
I believe I still need the buttonSetIcon field method because this script alone did not seem to work.
Perhaps I am doing everything completely wrong

  • When I upload any photos from iphoto or a folder it overwrites all the existing photos. is there a way to add to the existing library without deleting what's already in the library?

When I upload photos from iphoto or any other folder it overwrites all the existing photos in my ipad. is there a way to add to the existing library without deleting what's already in the library?

No, apart from using the emailing them, to yourself or using a third-party app such as Simple Transfer (in which case the photos will only go into the Saved Photos/Camera Roll album) or the camera connection kit (Imported album). You need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad in one go, as only the contents of the most recent sync remains on the iPad - not including photos in a sync is how you delete them from the iPad

Are you saying you were trying to backup your phone but instead it restored your phone from a backup that was two years ago
If so there is no way to recover the recent data that was lost because it wasn't back up.
did you at the very least import your pics to your computer as you would a digital camera?

  • Some of the pictures I am trying to use don't quite fit into the pre-set frames... Is there a way to move just the photo with-in the frame so to use the best part of the picture?

Some of the pictures I am trying to use in Idvd don't quite fit into the specified frame... Is there a way to just move the picture itself within the frame to use the best part of the pic... For example I'm trying to use a picture of my son..but his head gets cut off when I drag the picture into the place holder....

When trying to troubleshoot my problem I discovered a forum that was saying certain NTFS drives work just fine
Apple support says that an NTFS or exFAT drive cannot be used when connected to the AirPort Extreme.
I suppose it is possible that someone might have been using some type of special software on the drive that might perform a "conversion", but without more details, it is hard to know.
Note: ExFAT and NTFS formats aren't supported.

    Hi
My PC is completely broken. My iTunes library on my iPhone is taking up too much memory.

Swipe from right to left on any song to delete from the device.
Same works for Albums and Playlists.

  • Is there a way to ONLY have the videos download on my iPad shown

Since I updated my phone and iPad to iOS7 when I got to videos, instead of showing me just what I have downloaded on my device, it shows everything I have on my iTunes account, I HATE that. It is really annoying because I can't remember what I have on there and when I click on something it says i have to download it from my iCloud. Is there a way to just show what I have on my device because this is stupid and really *****.

    You are most welcome

  • Is there a way to password protect the email accounts in my ipad?

I have private info in the emails, and sometimes i lend the ipad to my kids so they can play games or to someone to look at something with it.
I dont want them to be able to read my emails.
Is there a way to protect the emails account with a password?
    I downloaded the ios 6

Not directly no - there is this work-around which should still work on iOS 6, or you could see if any of the third-party email apps in the app store support a password, or just access your account via Safari (you can create a homescreen shortcut for your account's login page)

  • Is there any way that we upload the photos to our Picasa web albums?

    Hi
thakn you for reading my post.
    Which web albums Loghtroom supports?
for example does it support picassa web album or flickr?
if it is not supported out of the box is there some plugins that can ease uploading photo to picasa web album?
I am considering moving to lightroom but i should be assured that it has some sort of support for picasa web albums.
    Thanks

I accident emptied the photos out of my iPhotos is there a way i can get them back

What version of system and iPhoto are you using?  Did you actually move the photos to the iPhoto Trash bin and empty it or do you just not see photos in the library?

I agree with you, many things in the ios 6.x were more elegant. The reader was the most one of them. I think the ios7 wants to be the windows 8.
