Is there a way to receive compressed update files?

I live in a rural area and use a satellite service for internet connectivey.  I'm limited to 17 gigs every thirty days, and speeds are often quite slow.  App updates are frequently a gig of more (iphoto, imovie) and, with two macs to keep current, these file sized are a significant burden.  I've downloaded the updates off-site at a hotel but when I try to install the files, I'm told the updates must take place within the app manager.   Is there any way around this?  It seems Apple just assumes we all have super fast access with no download limits.   Not the case with me

You know, you don't always HAVE to do an update...

    Hello Everyone,
    To Start
I have a Lumia 800, Latest Updates all installed.
I am running windows 8, completely up to date 64 bit.
I am running the latest version of zune.
My question to the community is:
Is there a way to receive phone notifications such as texts, missed calls and so forth to my computer (like in pc suite with all other nokia phones that aren't windows) with the ability to reply to them on screen as well? I sit at a desk for the majority of my day and tend to start my day my charging my phone in my desktop, i then proceeded to play very loud music and zone into my work, often forgetting about my phone until lunch and when its the end of my day. this was a service i have lived without for around 8 months now thinking “i’ll just forget about it in a week or so and it will all be in the past” well i haven't forgotten and i still miss that functionality. If anyone knows of a way to achieve what i would like ( however complex, i am pretty tech savvy) to do it would be of great help!
    Thanks
    Solved!

There is no way to implement this under the Windows ecosystem unfortunately.

I replaced the computer I originally used to synch my iPhone. When trying to update to iOS5.0, I get the message stating that my content will be erased, even though this is the computer I now synch my phone with. Is there a way to make the update recognize the new computer so that my content will be kept?

The best option is to copy your entire iTunes folder from your old computer to your new one using one of the methods described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527.  This will allow iTunes on your new computer to recognize and sync with your phone without deleting content.  You will also need to copy over any other synced data not in your iTunes library such as photos synced to your phone, calendars and contacts.
If you can't do this, these articles will help you start syncing with your new computer with minimal or no data loss:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

You need a third party app. Take a look at some of these on this Google page.

  • HT1444 Is there a way to undo an update and go back to prior version?

Is there a way to undo an update and go back to a previous version? I installed the latest version of 10.7.4 (?) on my iPhone (4s) but I hate it. I was warned by another user not to update. She said I would regret it. I should've listened.
1)The Icons are lighter in color with tiny print on them - resembling a bunch of light colored boxes without meaning.
    2) I used to be able to double-click the home button, press-and-hold a running icon at the bottom and deselect all that were running to prolong my battery life, but I can't figure out how to do that now.
I am reluctant to update my iPad now. I think I will readjust my settings to make the updates "hidden".

Unfortunately there isn't a downgrade path. However, to improve legibility go to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn 'Larger Type' on and make adjustments there. Also you can turn the 'Bold Text' option on.
To close down apps, double-tap the Home button as before and any open apps will appear as a reduced sized window of the app. Stroke that window 'up' and the app will close down.

Without knowing anything about your computer we can't advise specifically. You can download CS6 versions in CC by checking the "older versions/ other versions" stuff in teh bottom section of the CC app's "Apps" tab, but that may not resolve your issues.

  • Is there a way to prevent Software updates to automatically upgrade my printer drivers?

    Hi everybody!
Is it possible to prevent Mountain Lion to automatically upgrade my printer drivers?
I'm using an iMac with Mountain Lion at work, and for my printer to work, I need to keep an older version of xerox drivers (newer versions are not supporting some features we're using at a corporate level). Is there a way to tell software updates to stop asking me to update those drivers? I would love to use the "update all" feature without having to continuously reinstall old drivers...
Thank you so much for your help!
    Sincerely
    Neff

Thank you Barney-15E, I tried to right-click and hide this update and for the moment everything appears to work just fine. I'll let you know if the update request pops-up again at the next software update.

I was wondering, is there a way where I can update it without using an external disc?
If you mean the iMac does not have an internal optical drive capable of reading DVDs, the only option requires another Mac with a DVD-capable drive and FireWire ports. Your iMac G3 will also require FireWire ports. Not all G3 iMacs have Firewire. FW started with the Summer 2000 models with 400mHz and faster processors.
With FireWire, you can use FireWire Target Disk mode to install from a retail OS install DVD in another Mac. If you supplemental info info tells us if you have another Mac with a DVD reader and the FW ports, we can walk you through the process.
If the iMac has a tray-loading drive, I'd forget it. They are very limited not only in the OS max (10.3.9) but also in RAM capability. Starting with the slot-loading iMac G3s, the max RAM increased to 1 GB (2 X 512MB modlules). Tiger likes 1GB RAM.
Understand that pre-Intel Macs are getting harder to use. Even with 10.4.11, your choice of browsers is limited (TenFourFox is the most viable option) and the G3s  rudimentary video hardware means web browsing will be choppy at best.
If you are in the USA, you can try calling the Apple Store (1-800-MY-APPLE) for an OS disk. As recently as Jan 20, someone posted here that they were able to buy Tiger by calling. It was not clear whether the disks were replacement system install/restore disks or full retail install, but it's a free call.
When you do "About this Mac" to check teh OS verion, also look at the processor speed and tell us what that says. That can help with recommendations for an upgrade path.

Assuming you are using the latest version go into Settings > Notifications and turn on Allow Notifications for Mail. You can even fine tune it for which email addresses you want to receive notifications from and what kind of alert.

Not without deleting it and then downloading it from the new Apple ID.

    - If you have a 1G ipod you can't update past 3.1.3.  To identify yourd see:
    Identifying iPod models
    - Be aware that if you can/do update the iOS to the latest (4.2.1 for a 2G and 4.3.4 for a 3G) you may not be able to sync to the old computer since that computer will need the latest iTunes to see/sync with the update iPod.  Yo need an Max with at least OSX 10.5.8.
You can transfer iTunes purchases from the iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
You can use on of the third-party programs dicussed here to transfer other stuff:
    new PC: Apple Support Communities
Unless you can move/copy the iPod backup file to the new computer you will loose all app data and restore from that backup. That file is located:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

If your email provider supports Push email, then you will get audible email notifications automatically. Otherwise, email is only checked when you open the email app.
If you have Fetch New Data set to automatically check every 15, 30, or 60 minutes then you will also get the tone when the system checks for mail and finds mail available.  If you set Fetch New Data to Manually then you will only get the email checked when you open the Mail app.

    Hi
You dont need to buy anything.
Winzip is for free. You can also use the WinRAR.
You will just notice an pop which recommend to buy an full version but this is not needed in order to unzip single packages.
As I said; install WinRAR. I use this tool too. in my opinion its better than Winzip.
