Is there a way to refuse a third party app update?

I read a lot of reviews before purchasing an app. In many cases problems seem to arise with the update. Is there anyway to turn off the automatic update for third party apps? Or selectively deny an update to a particular app?

You cannot turn off the notification for third party updates. You do NOT have to accept the update - the update will only occur if you select the app and allow the update to take place.
You will have to simply ignore the notification if you really do not want to update the app, but it some cases - apps will no longer work if the iOS is updated and the app is updated to run only in the newest iOS. So just be aware of that as well.

  • Is there a place for recommendations of third-party apps?

    There used to be a place on here to talk about anything at all, but I don't see that now, so I don't know where to ask this question.
    It would be nice to have a place to exchange recommendations of 3rd-party software that provides applications not addressed in Apple products.
    For example, the old will-maker program I used with OS 9 does not work on OS X. Quicken makes a great one, but it only runs on Windows, and I don't want to get involved with running Windows on my Mac just for that.
    If there is a place on here or anywhere else on the web where Mac users exchange recommendations of third-party apps, I would appreciate any details.
    And, of course, if anyone has a specific recommendation for a will-maker program, that would be great too.
    Many thanks.

    a brody:
    I'm sorry but I find your response just a tad parental.
    You suggest navigating "the entire board" before asking "for too much," even as you go on to recognize how huge and unwieldy it is. I think most of us give it a good shot, exhausting a reasonable amount of search results, before posing a question. And it seems to me that your "given there are resources" could apply to anything at all that one might ask on here. All the answers came from somewhere; a person could go those "resources" instead! The point of these forums, I think, is to help and assist, in a reasonable manner according to reasonable guidelines.
    What is the point of making suggestions, if the attitude is "don't you think the moderators have enough work on there (sic) hands"?
    When you say "using the forums give plenty of chance to find the right application," well, I just wonder where you would suggest one ask something like "Can anyone recommend a good third-party slideshow application?" I have a hunch that no matter what forum a person plugged that into, someone such as yourself might chastise him for posting off subject!
    That is why my point was to ask what happened to the section that used to entertain miscellaneous questions on almost any topic. And it is why I wished aloud for a section where types of (third party) applications could be posted. That would NOT mean, as you seem to suggest, that suddenly a topic for every conceivable kind of application would be created.
    And finally, if you think all the information I hope for is already in the forums, or could be asked about and supplied in the existing forums, then I wonder how you think moderators would be additionally overburdened merely because the same stuff was simply more organized and easier to find.
    Forgive me if I sound overly defensive, but it seemed to me your response was a bit of a putdown and not very constructive.

  • Third Party App Updates....

    I was wondering if it was possible or if there was anything like Apple Software Update for third party apps. By this I mean is there a way to get all the third party installed software such as Tweetie, VLC, Quicken, iHomework, etc. to all check for updates at the same time like Software Update does for Apple apps. If there is not a way to do this is there a way to get the apps to auto-check every day or hour?

    That link was for Windows OS. Also, that site didn't have Snow Leopard, and that is not a universal update thing like the Apple Software Update by using the Apple Logo button on the Mac OS X Menu Bar, that was just a site that tells each update for apps. I was talking about something that will search for all updates from my desktop just like Software Update from the menu bar.

  • I purchased my iMac using the same (and only) Apple ID I use to purchase apps. Third-party apps update fine, but the apps that came with my iMac (iPhoto, iMovie, etc) bring up a message saying I have to log in with the account I used to purchase them.

    I used my only Apple ID to purchase my iMac (Intel-based one).  I've never been able to update core apps that came with it.  I can update third party apps I've bought (like Coda), but when I try to update Garage Band, iPhoto, iMovie and so on, a popup message appears saying "You have updates available for other accounts" and "Log in with the account you used to purchase this app in order to update it", or similar (see screenshot above).
    The OS seems to get its updates fine - it's just the core apps from the App Store.
    I've only ever had one Apple ID, so I have no idea what to do.  I went to ask the Genius bar at my local Apple store, and they couldn't help, and insisted that I must have purchased the iMac using a different account, but I definitely didn't.  There are a few posts on non-Apple forums of this happening to other people, so it must be a rare bug.
    I'm a little concerned it may affect my ability to update from Lion to Mountian Lion.  Can anyone help?
    Dan

    Have you done a Disk Repair and a Disk Permissions Repair?
    If that doesn't resolve the problem I would suggest calling customer support about this issue as it is most likely on their (Apple's) end that the problem exists.

  • Is there any way profile manager without third party certificate

    Ok my business just got 30 ipads recently, so I wanted to find a way to quickly manage them. So I found profile manager. The only thing is, I really don't want to spend money on a ssl certificate just to use in my own office. Its not very big so I see no reason to need it.

    If you disable automatic update options, Pages can't be updated.
    This is the change in Mavericks since it otherwise updates it all.
    Or you could try 'locking' the application to make sure it won't be
    automatically updated, in addition to the above setting in Prefs.
    {Not sure since I'm not that famiiar with Mavericks, but there
    used to be a Software Update in sys prefs, and some of the
    update features could be modified there.}
    You could search this issue online, but if you do, don't be taken
    in by some additional ads in such sites as they will be found,
    that offer to let you download any applications, since there are
    a few out there (saw them when I double-checked my ideas)
    that can really mess up your Mac... with adware, genieo, etc.
    So, there may be some wild cheap or costly application that
    promises the moon on a silver platter. Be wary of adware. LOL
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Conflict with Third Party Apps?

    I am getting an occasional error saying there is a possible conflict with third party apps and that I need to check the drivers of my MIDI devices to see if they are up to date? Sorry but I did not record the exact wording. Does anyone know what this might mean, and how I need to go about checking drivers? I have a lot of interfaces and not sure how to see what's what. Thanks.

    Hi Midlake,
    Well, because they are known troublemakers. Search for 'takes' or 'take folder(s)' or 'comp' here on the forum and you'll find many a troubled soul crying out for help - including seasoned pro's, who thought they were beyond tears...
    O, they are fine for recording many takes - but thats' all. I'll select the best takes/phrases.

  • Why do we have to activate individually all third party apps!!! There should be as easier way!

    Why do we have to activate individually all third party apps!!! There should be as easier way! Apple TV is not Apple anymore...

    Primarily because those third party apps are just that, they are not Apple apps, and each have their own requirements for activation.

  • A way to keep playing iPod music in third party apps?

    Is there a way to keep third party apps from overriding the iPod music playing? In other words, keep playing my music, rather than the sound effects of the game?

    By reading the iPad Users Guide there should be two ways. One is to, on your computer, move the Music Videos to the movies part of your library. The other way is to make a play list that excludes the Music Video and only shuffle that playlist. Regarding the latter, the USers Guide says:
    Shuffle the tracks in any playlist, album, or other
    list of songs
    From the Now Playing screen, tap the album art
    to show the song controls onscreen. Tap (this is an icon that looks like a black background with three horizontal black lines) at the
    bottom of the screen, then tap Shuffle at the
    top of the list of songs.
    Whether or not iPad is set to shuffle, if you tap
    Shuffle at the top of a list of songs, iPad plays the
    songs from that list in random order.

  • Hi, I am trying to update an iPhone 4 from iOS 4.3.3 to iOS 7.0.4, and every time I try to update it comes up with an error message saying that there was a problem because the network connection was reset. Is there any way I can get past this and update?

    The full message said:
    There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "Judy's iPhone 4". The network connection was reset.
    Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later.
    I am trying to update the iPhone for my grandmother, Judy, as I am leaving for Paris on Wednesday night and we want to have Facetime installed on her iPhone before then, so we can stay in contact with each other. It is the simplest way for this to happen but the program simply will not allow me to update her iPhone.
    Is there any way to get past this error and update her iPhone? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Any one who can point us in the right direction that would be great and we would be very grateful. Thanks So Much

    Lojack for laptops - if that is the product you purchased and installed, you will need to read the user manual or contact the manufacturer as it is 3rd party.  You did file a police report right?

    I have 2 apple id's with different apps and data saved under each.  It's very annoying so now I want to create a new id with my primary email address I use now.  If I do that is there any way to transfer all my saved apps and app data like game saves etc so I don't lose all of that information and can easily switch to a singular apple id?

    Apple does not transfer content bought with one Apple ID to another Apple ID. Apple will not merge two Apple IDs.
    If most of your content was bought with the Yahoo! Apple ID but you now want the Gmail address for your Apple ID, the trick will be to change the address used for the Yahoo ID with the Gmail address. However, to do that you must first free the Gmail address from that other Apple ID. Use the instructions from Apple to substitute another address that is not used as an Apple ID for your Gmail address in the Apple ID with the Gmail address. Then, when the Gmail address is no longer used in an Apple ID, you can use the same instructions to substitute the Gmail address for the Yahoo address in the Apple ID with the Yahoo address.

  • Is there a way to create tables that can't update rows

    Hi
    I have an application where security is very importante. I have tables that con only be inserted and queried, not updated or deleted. Is there a way I can tell Oracle to prohibit update and delete on that table.
    Regards,
    Néstor Boscán

    > Is there a way I can tell Oracle to prohibit update and delete on that table.
    Yes. Quite easy in fact. It is called FGAC - Fine Grained Access Control.
    You create a FGAC function for those tables. These simply returns 1=2 to be added to an UPDATE or DELETE statement's predicate.
    Example:
    SQL> -- am able to delete from emp
    SQL> delete from emp;
    17 rows deleted.
    SQL> rollback;
    Rollback complete.
    SQL>
    SQL> -- create policy FGAC function
    SQL> create or replace function vpdbPolicy( schema varchar2, object varchar2 ) return varchar2 is
    2 begin
    3 return( '1=2' );
    4 end;
    5 /
    Function created.
    SQL>
    SQL> -- create FGAC policy
    SQL> begin
    2 DBMS_RLS.add_policy(
    3 object_schema => USER,
    4 function_schema => USER,
    5 object_name => 'emp',
    6 policy_name => 'PROTECT_EMP',
    7 policy_function => 'vpdbPolicy',
    8 update_check => FALSE,
    9 statement_types => 'UPDATE DELETE'
    10 );
    11 end;
    12 /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL>
    SQL> -- no longer able to delete from emp
    SQL> delete from emp;
    0 rows deleted.
    SQL> rollback;
    Rollback complete.
    SQL>

  • Is there a way to restore the All Contacts app on my iPad 1.  it seems  the data and cannot turn a page or add more contacts

    Is there a way to restore the All Contacts app on my gen 1 ipad?  I seem to have lost the data and can't turn a page or add new contacts.  I did try to reload the contacts (and I guess everything else) from my itunes computer backup but nothing happens to the All Contacts app. everything else seems to work fine on the ipad so I'm not sure what happened to the data or why.  not sure i want to try and reset the whole ipad just for this one little app or feature...thanks in advance to any replies.

    Sorry, had to sep out.  I see the contacts "page" but I can't use the letters on the left margin or a finger touch to change location.  Nor does anything happen when I touch the plus sign to allow me to add a new contact.  So maybe he actual old contact data is still there I just can't get to it.  Rick

  • Is there a way to switch to an earlier software update?

    Is there a way to switch to an earlier software update?

    Its not officially supported, but its really easy to do.
    Download prior versions here:
    http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22056 (be sure you get the correct version).
    To install these firmwares, download the files in the browser and save to disk, then use iTunes to restore.
    First you will need to put your phone into DFU mode. Next, you will use the “shift restore” (PC) or “option restore” (OSX). This will bring up a file selection box in iTunes that allows you to find the file you downloaded to program.
    Remember, if you are downgrading your firmware then you will get an error at the end of the process such as 1011, 1013, 1015 or such. This is normal.
    This has worked for all prior versions, but who knows if Apple disabled this with 2.2, as it contains a new baseband engine.
    You might be better served to find out why your 2.2 does not work, because going backwards in the long run is counter-productive. Getting it to work is a better idea. This method can be used to install 2.2 as well if itunes is having problems downloading.
