Is there a way to reinstall garageband without the ilife 08 discs?

hello, i was hoping someone could help me. i just got a job with a fairly new company (a little over a year old). i was given a macbook to work on that a previous employee had used. initially, the macbook had ilife, i assume, since i recorded some music using garageband and edited video clips on imovie for a presentation.
there were a lot of files and programs that i wasn't too sure about, and wanted a clean start anyway, so i wiped the macbook clean using the mac osx install discs. when i restarted the system i noticed that garageband and imovie were no longer there. is there anyway to retrieve or reinstall these apps? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

i pointed that out to i.t. and they said that it was most likely due to the fact that i restored my mac with a different disc...one, that they originally provided...as opposed to the install discs. they said that if i do 'another' clean sweep, with the original discs, that it should work fine. but i'm a bit skeptical, as you can imagine. i am very frustrated with our i.t. department for not supporting me and for giving me the runaround. sure, i've only been with the company for a few weeks, but a little decency goes a long way, i think. had they provided the original discs, i could've done a clean restore and would be working, being productive, as opposed to trying to find the solution some other way.
what are my options?

To back up your data, either use Target Disk Mode and a cable from another Mac (which mounts your problem Mac as an external disk of the other Mac) and Disk Utility on that other Mac, or — and this is all assuming you either have a slow Internet connection and don't want to use Internet Recovery, or if you have an older Mac that doesn't support Internet Recovery — you can create a bootable USB key disk on another Mac and then boot your problematic Mac from that keydisk, then use Disk Utility from the installer to make a backup to another (external) (scratch) disk.  You can also use that keydisk to reinstall OS X, to repair or to reinstall OS X.

  • Is there a way to reinstall Windows without all of HP's preinstalled software?

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-1334us notebook, installed with Windows 7 64-bit. I'm very familiar with the recovery process, DVDs and all, but I've recently read this article on Lifehacker: http://lifehacker.com/5832896/download-windows7-isos-to-reinstall-without-restoring-your-system
The opportunity to install a fresh, clean, legitimate copy of Windows 7 with my current product key seemed like a good one. No more would I have the modifications made by HP, Norton, Office 2007, Wildtanget Games and all. Upon installing this, I was prompted to cough up a product key. I tried the one on the bottom of my notebook, which is a little worn and hard to identify, but I didn't seem to have any luck. I reinstalled HP's build with my recovery disks, and used Speccy (a program by Piriform, the same developer who makes Ccleaner) to find out the product key hidden in my registry. I took that key, and tried it in the installation process. It seemed to have gone through, without a hitch. However, after checking my Windows activation status, it turned out that the key was rejected, apparently marked as invalid for this type of activation (I've forgotten the specific wording, but it's easily retrievable if needed). So now I write here, asking if anyone else has tried this on a Pavilion, and if so, with success, and if that, how. Is there some sort of other hidden key I'm missing?
I know the whole OEM situation makes it shady in the first place, but I'd like to know if I'm trying for a cause without the possibility of success. I also found out that HP Support Assistant has something about a product key, and so I ask if that could possibly be different as well.
    Thanks in advance,
    Clayton M.

    Hi,
You should have no problem doing this as long as you observe the following.
    1.  Use a retail ( or a DVD created from a downloaded ISO ) that is the exact same version as the original OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the retail ( or your own created disc ) you must use.
    2.  You must use the Activation Key found on the COA sticker on the base of your notebook.
    3.  You generally ( well everytime I've done this ) need to use the 'Phone Method' to activate the OS after the installation has completed - see a guide on this Here.
This is a perfectly legitimate process and is supported by Microsoft for Windows 7 - see Here.

  • Someone deleted my Messages.app from my mac. Is there a way to reinstall it without resinstalling the whole OS?

I work at a company and I inherited a newish macbook pro from a former employee. When I got it Messages.app and Calendar.app were missing. I copied Calendar from a coworker's computer and it works fine but when I tried it with messages the app is totally broken. Is there a place where I can install the application from?
    Thanks in advance!

    HI,
As you may know an app's icon can be removed from the DOCK by simply clicking and dragging it off the DOCK and then letting go.
You may also know that this does not delete the app and that it remains in Applications.
At this point you don't know if the previous user was used to sticking similar app in folders of their own making.
For instance creating a Messaging App Folder and sticking in MSN, Yahoo for Mac and Messages and even FaceTime.
For Apple Apps and Updates this can be a problem as the apps such as Messages are not found as they as in the "wrong" place.
At this point it is possible to have such a Folder and have iChat in it  (which still will not work as all the ancillary apps and Frameworks will not match) and this will not have been upgraded at the Lion to Mountain Lion Upgrade.
Only a Restore will sort this.
If however the computer has only had Mountain Lion then moving the Messages app out of any containing folder in to the Applications Folder an then running the Combo version of OS X 10.8.4 may restore it's full function.
This is a long shot as Messages was actually updated to version 7.0.1 in the OS X 10.8.2 update but there were behind the scenes changes at OS X 10.8.4 that were supposed to address the Out of Order iMessages Issue.
Realistically a Restore is much more likely to sort this.

  • Is there a way to place globals without the label (LV7)

The default bahavior has apparently been changed from version 6 so that globals placed from a file now have the label visible. Is there a way to disable this?

I have noticed this as well and just right-click on a new global and go to Visible Items -> Label and uncheck Label. This isn't too painful.

Bought computer with software on the computer don't have password. Is there anyway to upgrade?

Probably one of those craigslist ads.
Guys take a computer, pack it full with stolen software, and then charge more than the computer is worth.
But: no upgrades, no support. And you'll never know if there's not some malware, spyware somewhere.
I wouldn't want to work with such software.
It's really the best to wipe the drive, and only use your own software. Charge it under "experience".
    And it's only $50...

Is there a way to reinstall an older version to avoid the loss of my valuable extensions an a feature (where there are no add-on upgrades) without first uninstalling the current version.
A great feature now missing from the 34 or 35 version forward, is where I could previously grab a tab, and drop it into my bookmarks and if necessary (which is always), simultaneously scroll up or down with the mouse and drop it in. NOW, i either have to scroll the bookmarks first and then grab and drop, or I have to drag the tab over to the top or bottom of the bookmarks screen for the system to recognize that it's there before it scrolls for me, then drop it to the correct location. Was this feature too difficult to keep from crashes occurring? This feature compensated for a bookmarks save window feature lost in version 3+ for which there is no add-on currently.
i wish you guys would leave the awesome features alone. Really. You guys help and hurt us with every new version.

If you own any verson of iPhoto '11 then there is a free update to version 9.5.x in the App store
If you own a previous version of iPhto (iPhoto '09 or earlier) then as always an upgrade to a new version (in this case iPhoto '11) is a paid upgrade and you purchase it in the App store
and no OS update/upgrade contains a version of iPhto - it is a seperate program and although it is included as part of every new Mac it is not a free program and never has been sinve version 1 or 2 (I forget when it changes)

is there a way to reinstall i-photo without any other software

iPhoto '11 can be re-installed from the App Store's "Purchased" Tab (see image). iPhoto '11 is part of the iLife suite however, so you can ignore the others, lift and drop their icons out of the Dock (poof, their icons are gone, but they remain in the Applications folder), or delete them separately.

  • I have deleted iPhoto from my MacBook Air. When I try to reinstall it, itunes tries to charge me. Is there a way to reinstall the old version for free?

I have deleted iPhoto from my MacBook Air. When I try to reinstall it, itunes tries to charge me. Is there a way to reinstall the old version for free?

depening on what OS you're running you should be able to reinstall it without charge since it's part of the operating system. if running 10.6.8 or earlier you will need to use the applications install disc if there is one or if you only have one disc you can put it in and do a reinstall of the OS which will put the iphoto back on. if running 10.7 or 10.8 can sign into the app store w/ the same apple id that is associated w/ the mac and it should show in your purchases for you to reinstall it. you may need to click on the accept button if it appears next to the iphoto in your purchase listing.
