Is there a way to safely delete a backup session from Time Machine?

I'm trying to free up internal hard drive space and need to remove old photos from internal HD that have been backed up. I hadn't renamed or keyworded many photos yet and want to remove that backup session and replace with newly updated versions. Thank you!

Are you using the internal HD as a Time Machine partition? If so this is a HUGE HUGE HUGE mistake. If that HD crashes (actually when) you will have lost both your data and backup. Time Machine is intended to be used on an external HD and that HD should be dedicated to TM only, if you use it for anything else the same rule applies!!!!
However I'm hoping I am just misunderstanding your question, can you restate it.
If you want to move your media libraries (iTunes, Iphoto & iMovie) to an external HD, Apple explains how in:
iTunes: How to move the library to an EHD
iPhoto: How to move the Library to an EHD
iMovie: How to move the Library to an EHD

Here's one:  SMS Export Plus - Backup SMS and iMessages to your PC in excel file format on the App Store on iTunes
Just Google iPhone SMS backup and you'll get all kinds of options.

  • Is there a way to get my photos off an old time machine backup from an external hard drive?

Is there a way to get my photos off an old time machine backup from an external hard drive?

You will have to connect the Time Machine HDD and click on the Icon.  You will see one folder called Backups.backupdb.  Click on that and you will have to continue until you find the home folder.  The iPhoto library (where the pictures are, not the application) will probably be in your pictures folder.  You will have to drag that to your desk top.  Then you will have access to individual images.

Is there any way I can delete my mail all at one time instead of having to check each one first.

You can delete them all at one time but unfortunately you have to check them first. Then in Trash you can delete all.

  • HT201250 Is there any way to do a search iCal events in Time Machine backups using keywords?

Is there any way to actually look at what was in my iCal calendar, in calendar view, at the point in time of one of my previous backups?
And if not, is there any way to search the iCal backup files to find the ones with certain entries?
For example, I wanted to find all entries starting with Dr C, but the way the calender entries are listed in each "Events" folder they don't appear to be searchable.  And scrolling through them is very cumbersome, especially since the calendars are identified by numbers, not names...
Any help that makes this easier will be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.

The only way to do that would be to restore the whole Calendar database from a snapshot taken on that day.

  • Can a deleted email be restored from time machine

An email I recieved had vcards that I was working with.  I went to delete a vcard from the email and the email completely disappeared.  I have looked everywhere and cannot locate it.  Can it be retrieved from time machine or some other way?

Open your Mail Application / Enter Time Machine / Go back until you find that e-mail /
Select it and click the restore button.
Do the same with your Address / Contacts Application.
Otherwise, go to: User / Library / Application Support / Address Book
Replace that folder with an earlier one from your Time Machine backup.
Do the same with your Mail: go to: User / Library / Mail

  • Mac Book Pro 13" LPTP-Photo Booth Recorded Video File won't find my video/movie that I recently recorded from Sun 9-1-13. Is there a way I can retrieve the files under the Time Machine or will I need to download something for iPhoto Booth?

I have been having the most difficult times with the use of iPhoto Booth for recording movie files of church services. It seems if I make a rename on the files, for some odd reason, I cannot find it in any of my Files Folders in Finder. I need to know is there a more simple way to retrieve movie files thru iPhoto Booth or is there something I may can download to fix this issue? Also, is there a way the videos can be flipped around to not a mirror image, but to a reverse camera? Please anyone who recognizes this problem, contact me ASAP. Thank you for your support!

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

  • Is there any way to get my files back without using Time machine?

I used CCleaner without knowing it. It erased my download folder totally. I don't have any time machine.
    any suggesion?
    Sonny

Sonny operating any computer without a backup plan is just not wise and you are now probably going to pay a minor price. What would happen if you lost all of  your photographs, music and personal records? PLEASE begin a backup plan immediately, there is absolutely no excuse not to. I would recommend first starting out by buying an external HD and using Time Machine and then get a second external HD to create another backup using cloning software such as SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner (both less than $30). For less than $200 you can have a viable and safe backup plan. The reason it's wise to have redundant backups is because a backup can fail too, I've had it happen, thank heavens I had 2 backups which saved the day.

  • How do I delete a system file from Time Machine?

After consulting this support document, I tried to delete a Safari cache file that was captured by Sophos's Quarantine Manager as containing a common phishing hook. But it's in Library and Time Machine can't locate it. The Library folder, as you know, is typically hidden, and it wasn't there when I went to the starfield.
It's not a big threat to me, and will soon disappear from my cache, but it bugs me that I can't get to it.

Enter Time Machine from within your user Library folder. That will bring you to your user Library within Time Machine. (Your user Library is visible under the Go menu in Finder if you hold down the Option key.)

  • Possible to restore iTunes safely to a new mac (from time machine backup) without using setup/migration assistant?

    Hello all,
I have just acquired a new MacBook which I want to set up completely fresh. The only data I really need to restore/copy to it, besides a few document folders, is the iTunes library from my existing iMac. The iTunes library has been backed up using time machine on the iMac (using a portable drive). I’ve heard it might be possible for me to plug the time machine backup into the new MacBook and then option-click the time machine icon in order to 'browse other backup disks' and then restore iTunes. Would this work and would all my devices still sync with iTunes? I’m just a bit nervous because apple has migration assistant and setup assistant for doing this sort of thing - I just really don’t want to use them because the only thing I want on my new MacBook from the whole of the time machine backup is literally the iTunes library. I don’t want to start restoring user accounts which you must do with the assistants.
    Thank you.

Thank you ever so much for the replies. Just one thing: the link you provided seems to discuss restoring individual items on the computer for which a backup has been made. On my macbook I can't click "enter time machine" which I'm guessing is because the time machine backup is for my old iMac (hence my comment about control clicking the menu bar).

  • Why I cannot assess deleted Apple mail messages in time machine after installing mountain lion from snow leopard.

Ever since I installed Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard, I cannot retrieve my deleted Apple mail messages from Time Machine.  I could do it in the past using Snow Leopard.  The effective date for the the non-retrival of deleted messages is the date I installed Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard.  Any thoughts?

It was origionally a local folder for things like receipts from the Apple Store, etc
I'm still not sure what you mean . . . is it listed in the "On My Mac" section in Mail's sidebar, like these?
Mountain Lion appears to have given it an icon very much like an Archive box and put the "on My Mac" folder within that "Box" on both the back ups and the new Mail program - in fact it did it 6 times, which was the origional problem.
    Can you post a screenshot?
I could restore inbox messages although they came in as a new mail box called Time Machine rather than into their origional mailboxes (there are 7 different addresses)
Yes, that's how Time Machine restores Mail messages, so it doesn't erase the current contents of an existing mailbox.  You can then move them into the desired location.

  • Is there a way to add/delete words from the predictive text ?

Is there a way to add/delete words from the predictive text options that my iPhone is giving me? I'm using an iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 8.
There are specific words that are popping up in the area right above the keyboard where it displays 3 word suggestions to choose from. This area seems to suggest words that I have typed before, I'd like to remove these words. Default seems to select the word in the center and when I'm typing fast on occasion it will recommend and select words that I don't need to use.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I know in 10g delete is added but in 9i i can only work with UPSERT( update, insert)
is there a way to add delete into 9i MERGE? or somehow encapsulate it?
Thank youI would suggest upgrading to a supported version of the database. 9i has been unsupported for many many years now.
And to answer your question... to the best of my knowledge, there is no workaround. It works as it works.
