Is there a way to seamlessly "join" or "splice" clips?

When importing a long video, even with the "create clip" option turned off, iMovie will truncate any first clip around 1:00:03:17 and then start a second clip. I am working with a school play, and this arbitrary cutoff means a scene (including a song) is cut in two. I would like to seamlessly join those two clips as I am trying to create clip breaks which correspond to scenes and insert appropriate chapter breaks for DVD. The iMovie help lookup doesn't seem to have anything covering this topic - I went to the Studio at my local Apple Store and they couldn't help me...

Hi Genny,
maybe I miss your point (?) but....
make a test on your own:
set playhead in middle of some clip
hit apple-t... that splits the clip in two
set playhead a few seconds before the split-point
hit play...
do you recognize a "cut"?
no.
creating two clips doesn't mean automatically a "blip" in playback...
in iM<5, we had an import limit of 9minutes, so a monolith 60minute tape import created... hm... 7 clips... running/playback smoothly as "one" video.....
in case you're a beginner, before handling such large projects, have a read here:

hope, that helps....

  • Is there a way to force for rendering ALL clips in work area?

Is there a way to force for rendering ALL clips in work area? All clips: not only the ones with the red horizontal line indicating that they need rendering! I ask for this because the rendered clips preview very smoothly, but the unrendered ones do not! My source footage (and project) involves Full HD (1920*1080i 25fps).

If a Clip does not need Rendering, it will not be Rendered.
Basically, what Rendering does is to convert the Clips, that do require Rendering, to DV-AVI (SD Projects on a PC). This will yield AVI files in the Media Cache, Render Files, and for playback, PrE will rely on those. If you look in the Render File folder, you will see a bunch of abstractly named files, but those files are now Linked in the PREL (Project file), and will be used by the program for playback.
If one were to remove those Render files, and then Open that Project in PrE, they'd receive a message, "Where is file 04u434ip0ow.AVI?" [Note: that is just an example of the abstract Render file name, and is not the actual name, that one would see.]. One could Ignore those now missing Render files, and where they were used, there would then be red lines over those Clips.
As Steve mentions, the Render files are used only for smoothest playback. As I use DV-AVI files for SD Projects on my PC, I will not need to Render for smoothest playback, until I make changes to the Clips, like overlay Titles, PiP, Effects, etc.. I might never Render the Timeline, even with those additions, but sometimes, I will Render a small segment many times, especially with animated Effects, as I adjust the parameters.
If one is not getting the smoothest playback, then Rendering all files requiring Rendering will usually improve playback greatly.
Good luck, and hope that this makes sense.

  • Is there a way to set markers at the clipping points?

    Hi
is there a way to set markers at the clipping points?
    thanks

Don't think you can go any lower than that in any normal design program as there always needs to be a common base reference for all internal calculations like image resizing, font rasterization etc. and traditioanlly it has always been assumed to be 72 DPI. Still, I don't think that it is a problem. Any such stuff no doubt would be handled by the printer driver of the device, meaning it would reinterpret your 72 DPI graphic as 20 DPI and map each "pixel" 1:1. You may just need to design at smaller absolute dimensions...

  • PE 9;  is there a way to click and drag a clip to Organizer?

Is there a way to click and drag a clip from the timeline or sceneline to the organizer to keep it intact and use l, or in another project?   Thanks.

    You mean a trimmed clip?
    No, you can't do that.
However, you can use Share/Computer/AVI -- isolating the clip with the Work Area Bar if necessary -- to save any portion of your timeline as a new clip.

  • Is there a way to fast forward the movie clip, so it shows as fast forward.

Is there a way to fast forward the movie clip, so it shows as fast forward in the final clip, please help. (iMovie 08')

In iMovie 08 - the answer is no. It does not have the video fx that were in iMovie 06. You can get iMovie 06 as a free download, if you already have iLife '08. Then you have access to a much better programme for doing the editing tasks you want.

  • My iMovie project staggers/skips over my transitions...I read that I need to optimize each clip.  I did this individually and it worked but was time consuming.  Is there a way to optimize all of my clips at once upon import?

My iMovie project staggers/skips over my transitions...I read that I need to optimize each clip.  I did this individually and it worked but was time consuming.  Is there a way to optimize all of my clips at once upon import?

When you import, the import screen should give you the option to optimize clips. Select Optimize - Full Size.
I think you can also right-click on the Event Name and it will let you optimize all clips in the Event, but I haven't tried it lately.

  • Is there any way I can join a group chat in Thunderbird?

I can't find a feature in Thunderbird that allows me to join or create a group chat in Google Talk. Is there any way to do this? Is this feature missing? If so, it would be greatly appreciated if this feature could be implemented in future versions.
I don't use Google+ or Hangouts, so it's just plain old Google Talk XMPP.

This isn't quite what I'm looking for. I want to be able to simultaneously chat with more than one person. For example, if I am person A, I want to chat with persons B and C at the same time, so that our chat would involve people A, B, and C.

  • Is there a way to see all my compound clips created on the timeline, in the browser as an accessible thumbnail list....?

I am facing a problem that
due to big footage I first extracted the seemingly fine clips in chunks in one timeline in various layers which is still enormous for my RAM
now I have to take out smaller and more appropriate bits from this timeline
I have opened another timeline where I just copy paste the best shots from my previous enormous timeline and this works fine due to less media for 6gb RAM mac pro
but it is really tedious to go back and forth to copy paste
it would be so wonderful if I could extract those bits from the clips just like we do with any other new footage from the browser window with all the clips visible
I think one way can be to export these compound clips seperately and import them as events into the browser but that would be a generation loss
is there any other way.....? to view these compound clips infront of my eyes all at once or keeping all that footage on the timeline besides the finalising layer is the only option...?
I am facing this rare problem because I'm editing a music video and no shot is more than 2 seconds and that too from several groups of footage that has to be mixed.....so all the data has to be visible to decide if a bit of guitar piece would look good here or drums or close up or long shot.....so everything has to be seen....can you suggest me a smarter workaround please ?

    Thank you.Ok say for e.g.
500 video files imported in fcpx
800 clips extracted from these obviously on the timeline and joined/compounded according to their content in say 15 layers according to 15 instruments used ,so now just to see the entire usable footage ....
now one 7 minute song sequence has to be made where bits would be simultaneously taken from these 15 layers as all instruments are playing simultaneously
these shots are not more than 2 secs each according to the beat........
when I try to work with these 15 layers as well as the Final primary layer that I'm making in the same timeline my fcpx becomes slow
but when I drag individual layer to individual timelines it is fine so that is the only option
but now for every 2 second bit I have to go back to the 15 layered timeline and find one single suitable shot
So I was wondering is there a way to be able to see these layers and clips on the timeline in the browser in a systematic fashion like the way we get with keywords  ?
and keywords can only be used in the imported clips already in the browser ,and not after we drag it on the timeline.....
Till now I think exporting and importing back is the only option ...but is there another work around ?

  • Is there any way to retrieve accidentally deleted source clips?

I accidentally deleted source clips for a video project, and now the viewer won't show my video (although I can still see the frames when I run my cursor over the project). Is there any way to retrieve the files or show iMovie where to find the source clips on my computer, kind of like how it's possible to show iTunes where to find source mp3s on my computer when they're moved from the iTunes file? Since I can still see the frames when I move my cursor over the clips (with the exclamation points in the corners), it seems as though the memory of the edited clips must still be in iMovie somehow and be recoverable. Any help would be appreciated - I'd really like to avoid having to re-import and re-edit all of those clips!

    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location.  OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone.  Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Is there a way to adjust volume across multiple clips or entire movie?

I am editing a lot of movies flying in ultralights. I want to keep the noise of the engine in the background, but I would like to lower the volume across the entire video. When there are 30+ clips it's very tedious to do one at a time when what I would like to do is apply the fix to the whole video. Is there a way?

Open tools and go to Audio Mixer.

  • Is there a way to disable joining known networks automatically

    Hi all,
I was reading about the WiFi Pineapple demonstrated at the SXSW conference.
In essence, it is a hacker device which pretends to be a known network, thus tricking your iPod into connecting to it.
It then can be the man-in-the-middle, intercepting data between your iPod and the "known" network.
One of the suggestions in the article was to confiqure your computer's (or iPod) settings to NOT remember networks.
Does anyone have thoughts on making the iPod, iPhone, and iPad more secure around open WiFi hotspots?
    Thanks in advance

    The users guide says:
Once you join a Wi-Fi network, iPod touch automatically connects to it whenever the network is in
range. If more than one previous used network is in range, iPod touch joins the one last used.
I find nothing that specifically not remember a network. What is close is to Forget this netwok. To use it you have to be within range of the network.

  • Is there a way to create playlist of video clips?

I use video clips extensively in presentations and workshops.  I have dozens of places in movies that I own in iTunes where I want to play 30 seconds to a minute of a movie as an example of a behavior or situation.  I manage this now with a manual list with the title, start place and how long to let it run.
The problem is that this is a carbon based system.  I have to keep my movies queued to that place or remember to put it back there after I use it or watch the movie- something that is 50/50 at best.  I would love a way to either tell itunes or to find a 3rd part program that I could create a "playlist" of titles with start and stop times so that I could just queue them based on the topic for the day.  Not worried about IP rights here- this is not a commercial showing for money.
    Ideas anyone?
    Thanks

  • Is there any way to sort ALL of my clips by date

I have tons of events and many of them contain different dates. Is there anyway I can have ALL clips, regardless of which events they are stored in, to be sorted and presented chronologically?  I have iPhone, iPhoto, Aperture, etc clips all over the place and I want to organize them.  The latest version of iMovie is making organization HARDER not easier!  Does Final Cut Pro have this feature?
I have less interest in making movies than I do watching the clips that I've taken, over 14 years, of the kids, in chronological order.   HELP please!!

    hi, Jamie Wiseman
I think my question wasn't clear.
what i am asking for i want to copy parameters itself as parameter to another report , not just parameter field name.
I put some picture about where i want please check attached.
As you see there is export function inside of export but i dont want to do this procedure of each of my parameters , i want to export them at once.
SO do you have any idea for this

  • Rs to do, and I selected the font for each 4s clip - now I want to change the font - is there a way to change all fonts on clips in one go?

Hi I am new to iMovie - and made a 35min film - quite pleased with it - I sub-titled it right through coz we work with deaf people - wanted my first movie to be accessible. Now I want to change the font on each clip - can I do this in one step - and change all the sub-titles to a different font - thanks a lot, Jane

Maybe some one else can pipe up with a solution, but this would literally take 2 seconds to do for a new project.  And you can create a "template project" that includes this "text" clip.  Save this project and then to a get info and check "stationary pad."  When you double click on this file, fcp will open with a copy of this project and you just need to do a save as.
I've been working with computer editing systems for longer than i can remember and at a certain point you just have to adapt your workflow to the limitations of the software.

  • Is there a way for me to import movie clips into i movie?

I am trying to make a small video for my fire department using imovie 09. I have a bunch of video's loaded on my computer but I am unable to import them into imovie. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas?

See if you can open your videos with QuickTime Player. If they will play in QuickTime Player, click Window/Inspector in QuickTime Player, and let us know what audio and video codecs are in your videos.
When a video will not import, it either means
    1) that iMovie cannot edit this codec - so the solution is to convert it to a supported codec.
    2) that it is a supported codec, but contains extra tracks like chapters, closed captioning, etc, that iMovie cannot edit. The solution is to delete these extra tracks.
