Is there a way to set up iCloud with a non .me email account?

Hi, hoping someone can help?
Next week I will be working 3 days in the office and 2 from my home in Leeds.
I have 2 iMacs - one for each location.
I was wondering whether there's a way of setting up iCloud with my work email address in order to sync my emails on both machines? I have to refer to my emails quite a lot in my job and it will be rather frustrating to have some one one machine and the rest on the other.
Oue email server is POP only. I use Apple Mail on both machines.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Vikki

Hi
Thanks both for the replies.
Work has our mail server settings set to 'remove from server immediately' - so I would have some on one and not the other as they will have already been collected.
Does the mail folder need to be in the library folder (or wherever it is - I'm on my PC at the moment so can't see where the actual folder is located) - or can i move it? I have a dropbox account and was just wondering whether i could pop it in there?

  • Is there any way to set up icloud with Windows XP?

Is there any way to set up icloud using a PC with windows XP?

    Yes there is.
There are many threads on this forum discussing this issue already (it's good to search before asking the same quesiton again).
There is a simple hack to get iCloud control panel to work on Windows XP to give you synced access to Contacts, Calenders, Reminders and Bookmarks. It also can be used to set up your me.com mail. Photostream doesn't work.
I found a solution here, have written it up in clearer english and added details re IMAP support for me.com addresses here:
    http://xlii.be/s/1ii
    In summary:
    You need:
Unpacking program e.g. 7-Zip or WinRar
    Orca MSI editor
The iCloud setup hack for Windows XP:
Download iCloud Control Panel for Windows.
Open iCloudSetup.exe file with WinRar or 7-Zip and extract.
Navigate to and open the iCloud.msi or iCloud64.msi (for 64bit systems) with Orca.
In the left table select LaunchCondition. Then change in the right table “VersionNT> = 600” to “VersionNT> = 200” and Save.
    Run modified iCloud.msi and install.
Run iCloud Control Panel, located in the Windows Control Panel, and set up as you want.
I've had reports that you need to keep the files extracted from the .exe file in the same directory during installaton of the .msi file.
    Have fun!

  • Is there a way to set up IMAP with Gmail & not have it import 3,000 emails?

I just set up my Iphone with the mail setting. I set up my Gmail with IMAP cause I heard that was new and better than POP. The problem I am having is that now that it is set up I have close to 3,000 emails in my inbox. Is there a way to have it import emails that arrive from a certain point on? or to delete all of those old emails at once? I am getting extremely frustrated with all of this email business. It seems so easy but no matter how I set it up it always seems to never work out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It is only better if you access the account with an email client on your computer as an IMAP account as well as being accessed as an IMAP account with the iPhone's email client which provides for keeping all server stored mailboxes synchronized automatically between both email clients used. In addition, you can store sent messages on the server with both email clients and when sending a message with the iPhone's email client, it will be available in the account's Sent mailbox when accessing the account with the email client on your computer and vice-versa which is not possible with a POP account.
I believe there is a setting via webmail access for your account for this.
If not and you are also accessing this account with an email client on your computer as an IMAP account, you can delete the messages from the account's Inbox there and when checking the account's Inbox mailbox with the iPhone's email client, it will be synchronized with the server automatically removing all messages automatically that were deleted with your computer's email client but these messages will no longer be available to you with either email client.
With your computer's email client for any messages that you want to save but you no longer want them available on the server, you can create an additional mailbox stored locally on your hard drive. Transferring messages from a server stored mailbox with an IMAP account to a mailbox stored locally on your hard drive stores the transferred messages on your hard drive and removes them from the server at the same time. Or you can create an additional server stored mailbox or mailboxes with the email client used on your computer or via webmail access for the account and transfer messages from the account's Inbox mailbox to the designated server stored mailbox that was created. This way the additional server stored mailbox and the messages within will be available when accessing the account with your iPhone automatically in case you need to access any of these messages when using your iPhone and you can transfer messages from the account's Inbox mailbox or Sent mailbox on your iPhone to the server stored mailbox created which will also be kept synchronized with the server when accessing the account with the email client used on your computer.

Your signature shows you are running Mac OS X 10.7.1.
Is this a different computer than the 20" iMac?
And you can easily add the iCloud calendar to iCAl on an iMac not running Lion/iCloud.
You simply need to add a CalDav to your non-Lion iMac.
Easiest way is to open iCloud.com then Calendar and Share that calendar. It will send an email to that user with the address of the iCloud caldav calendar.
    See this -> http://computing.physics.harvard.edu/icloud
    Same works for Contacts/Address book.

  • Is there a way to "stamp" PDF files with the purchaser's email address?

I would like to sell PDF reports and/or eBooks via BC, but I would like to be able to stamp each such PDF/eBook with the purchaser's email address.
There are certainly stand-alone PDF stamper programs and some providers like gumroad.com already offer that feature.
Anyone actually done it with BC, please?
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for the rapid response, Liam -- even if it's not the response I was hoping for.

  • My wife and I share an iTunes account. Is there any way to set up a seperate one for her to sync her phone contacts, iCloud and music to without having to purchase all her music again and then share going forward?

My wife and I share an iTunes account. Is there any way to set up a seperate one for her to sync her phone contacts, iCloud and music to without having to purchase all her music again and then share going forward?
It would be so much easier having seperate accounts but we have hundreds of her purchased songs on my account and she would need to be able to access these from her account. Possible?
Also, if we bought a song in future we would want to be able to both have access to it.
Alternatively, what is the easy way to sync two distinctly different contact lists to one iTunes account?
    Thank you in advance.

FYI: iTunes account (used to make purchases) is not the same as iTunes library (iTunes on your computer with music, movies, etc.).
    ecbclb wrote:
Will we have to create a seperate account for her, or can we all have the same one?
You can but you will not be able to limit what she syncs.
I would like to avoid 'checking' and 'unchecking' individual songs every time one of us tries to synch our ipods to the library.
I don't recommend using (only) the checkmarks to select what to sync.
Each of you can create your own playlists then sync only those playlists.
Then add/delete from your own playlists to change iPod content.
The only time I uncheck items is if I rarely/never want to sync them to anything, such as Christmas music or old audiobooks.
I suggest you each have your own computer login account. Then everyone has their own contacts, calendars, and everything else.
You and your husband can share an iTunes library and let your daughter have her own.

  • My wife and I both have the new iPhones.  Is there a way to set up two separate iCloud accounts but have photo stream from both phones sync with one family mac?  So we don't want to share contacts or anything else, just photos... Thanks in advance

If you turned off Contacts wouldnt that mean that the Contacts would no longer be backed up to iCloud as well? That would make it a pain when upgrading a phone to not easily pull contacts back down.

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

  • I have 5 devices all on one itune account.i have not activated icloud because i dont want it to sync all our information together. is there a way to set it up to only sync the music together and not the contacts photos messages etc

Unless you subscribe to iTunes Match, iCloud doesn't sync music.  Just set up every person's devices on a separate iCloud account and your iCloud data and photo stream will remain separated.  Each iCloud account will need a separate ID, but it does not need to be the same as your iTunes ID.  You can continue to share the same iTunes ID and maintain separate iCloud accounts with separate IDs for iCloud.
You'll also want to use separate IDs for each person for iMessage and FaceTime.  This will keep your text messages and FaceTime called separated as well.  The easiest way to do this is to have everyone use their iCloud ID for these two services as well.

If you mean you want to restore from an iCloud backup, go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings, then go through the setup assistant again and when given the option choose to Restore from iCloud Backup (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766).

  • Is there a way to set which keychain item is used by default for a site/application?

This question applies primarily to the keychain in Mavericks, but also the iCloud keychain and its use in iOS.
There are several sites and services for which I have multiple logins that serve different purposes. Whether it's because they are business/personal accounts, or accounts that pertain to different functions, I have multiple logins for many sites/services I use daily, however, there is usually one primary account for each that I use for most purposes.
What I would like to be able to do is set which of these logins appears by default. An example scenario might be if I have an "admin" account on a site, and a "dev" account that is used for testing purposes to Q/A the site from the perspective of a user who doesn't have administrative access. Most of my work happens under "admin" but whenever I go to the login page, the "dev" account prepopulates in the login form and I have to start typing admin and select that. It also does this on my iPhone, which is where this issue becomes very cumbersome, because there is no dropdown for me to select which credentials to use to autofill from. It appears to only allow autofill from whatever it sees as the first account to come up, and I can't seem to change that without deleting all the other keychain items that come up ahead of the one that I want. This kind of thing also poses a significant risk of accidents if, say, I have multiple payment methods saved and the one that comes up by default isn't my personal payment method, but a business account that's only meant to be used for business purchases. If that comes up first, if I don't replace it with my personal details, I might accidentally place a personal charge on a business account.
So I really have 2 questions:
    1) Is there a way to set the priority order of which account populates a form by default from the keychain?
    2) When filling out credentials on iOS, an "autofill" button appears at the top of my keyboard, and I can begin typing in a field and it will show the autocomplete of the username that I am typing, but if I click autofill, it replaces it with the original credentials and not those of whatever I began typing in. If I click on the username it's autocompleting, it just clears the autocomplete. Is there some way to choose which username I'm autocompleting a form with?
Thanks to anyone who has any ideas about a solution to this, and if there isn't, and if anyone at Apple is listening, in an ideal world, it would be like setting the priority order of known wifi networks, where you can drag your first choice to the top of the list.

This sounds like the age old problem with keychain & Safari. I don't know of a way to solve it without using something like 1Password.
The iOS app has it's own built in browser, so it has more control over what gets autofilled. Safari on OS X has an 1Password extension that handles account selection & autofill etc.
Keychain is great in principle, but it quickly falls down when you need tight integration with many ID's & different use cases (work, home etc).
I'd suggest you submit feedback to Apple about your thoughts. I did so years ago about this issue & this is how far we have come (back to the point where me.com synced passwords) :^)
    http://apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Other tools like lastpass or keypassx may also help if you want to truly segregate password storage, but that doesn't fix autofill, the way around that issue is to dedicate one browser for work.

  • Is there a way to set up two separate apple id's for imessaging with IOS 6?

My wife and I have the same Itunes account and we have turned off each other's devices on our own devices (so her phone does not receive my imessages and vice versa) but is there a way to set up a whole new Apple ID just for Imessages while keeping the same Itunes account for other things so her phone does not appear as a choice under my "send/ receive" options?
If that is not possible, is there a way to assign a new Apple id/Itunes account to one of our phones to keep them separate?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions regarding this topic.

    Hi...
The recomended way of setting up Applleds is to have one common one for "the Stores" (iTunes, App Store & Mac App store) so that all purchases are shared, then a seperate individual account for iCloud syncing EACH
So for instance you'd have [email protected] for the stores and [email protected], [email protected] [email protected] & [email protected] for the individuals
Thats' what I've done here for myself, mrs & 4 kids.
    Regards,
    Shawn

  • My husband and I are using the same computer. He has a ton of songs in iTunes that I don't want...but when I sync my iPod I get all of his songs too. Is there a way of setting up another ITunes account without having to untick all of the ton songs iTunes

My husband has a ton of songs in iTunes that I don't want on my iPod nano. Is there a way to set up a separate account on the same computer in iTunes? Do I have to un-tick all of his songs (would take forever!! And then he would have to tick them again)....when we sync our iPods?

    No. Its not possible.
Alternatively, create another user account in your computer. Install iTunes in that account with the library you wish to sync.
