Is there a way to split a project?

I have made a project that contains my movie, my slideshow, and my blooper section all in one project. However, now that I want to make a DVD out of all this, I would like to separate each of the sections so that on the DVD menu I can just have a Movie button, Slideshow button, and a Bloopers button rather than having to watch them all at once. However, when I try to import the movie into iDVD, the whole movie gets added as one movie, and I thought there was a way to split the movie, but I haven't discovered it yet. Anyone know of a remedy for this?

Duplicate the Project twice, then delete the appropriate sections from each copy so that you finish with 3 separate projects, each containing the relevant section.
To duplicate a project, in the Project Library view (not Edit view) click on the project then go to the menu and select File>Duplicate Project. Each time you duplicate, iMovie will use the same name as the original project but with a number appended - change the name as desired by clicking on the project to highlight it then clicking again so that the name is highlighted in light blue, then overtype with the new name.
If you prefer to keep the full original project intact in iMovie, duplicate it 3 times and use each duplicate for the 3 sections you require for iDVD.

the old apps are on my computer but they have had upgrades since they were put on the ipod originally. you think you would get a warning about this when you restored. I was not worried about losing the progress of the apps but i would have been worried about the app it self!!!!!

You can select with items so sync if you dont want everything on there. Just click the iphone in itunes and click music. THere you can pick and choose what you sync.

Is there any way to fix a project recorded in the wrong resolution without redoing?

Is there any way to resize a project once it has been recorded so that it fits on the screen? The person who recorded the project set the resolution at 1280 X 774 pixels and it's too large to see the entire project on the screen...you have to keep panning back and forth. I am hoping we don't have to have him rerecord the entire project.

Try clicking Project > Rescale and scaling the project to be a smaller size.
Note that you probably want to leave the "Maintain aspect ratio" option selected (you are welcome Lilybiri )
Additionally, note that rescaling will inevitably result in a loss of fidelity. Things just begin to fuzzy up when you do that. The degree to which it suffers is in direct proportion to how much scaling you wish to do.
As a final note, you only really want to ever rescale a project once. So if you aren't sure about the final outcome, click File > Save As and rescale. Look at it. LIke it? Terrific! Keep it! Don't like it so much? Scrap it and open the original again. Then again click File > Save As...
Rinse and repeat as necessary... Rick

I guess you could, but that would be an hour long gap clip before your sequence which would make for a very
unweildy sequence. Especially since this cut will be only about a minute.

On my ipad in the application iMovie, yesterday I tapped on that box on top right with an arrow pointing upward, then selected save to itunes. After that I deleted the application and re downloaded the update. And I can't find the project and when I tap import from itunes I find nothing, is there a way to retrieve that project? Considering that I have the videos and photos stored on the ipad, only the project is missing

I've got FCE4 projects on one computer but I need to be able to open and work on them on my MBP as well. Currently, I've got the projects in Dropbox, but when I open them, the source media files all need to be reconnected.
I guess I could painstakingly hunt for them all one by one. Any file I have imported into FCE I keep in the same folder, but files created by iMovie and FCE [like sequence files] I have no idea where they are.
Is there any way to package the project, like you can in InDesign? That software packages all related files into 1 folder so you always have them.

I am using an external scratch disk, but there's not a lot in each project's folder. I need a way to pull everything a project uses and place it in 1 folder so I can move it to another machine. I have everything I've imported...it's just links to iMovie files [I exported rough cuts to xml, then imported into FCE4. I'm not sure why FCE4 is looking for the original iMovie file...] and sequence files that I need to be able to find.
I was really hoping for some kind of automated function, like packaging in InDesign...

No you can not.
You can connect USB 3 components to you MB if you wish to use them but will only run at USB 2 specs.

If the system just Restarted on it's own, Shut down while you were working on something then started back up all those changes, edits, you had done in that app, document, are gone.

i'd be inclined to leave things as they are. Managing app updates over more than one account in the same library or device requires you to sign in and out of each account in turn. You cannot transfer content from one account to another.

Best way to split 3D project with constantly moving cameras

I created a 1 minute project in which the camera travels between 3 sets, while there is an animated 2D background. The background consists of overlaying .psd files which move around. The camera sweeps each set and then zooms to the next. Within each set are .mov and .psd files with tons of keyframing (although not too many filters). I think I'm starting to hit the outer limits of my hardware. I have it set to render draft quality for now, and it's still functional. I'm wondering what would be the best way to split it into smaller files, yet retain smooth motion of the camera between sets? I still need to fine tune the duration of each set, so I'm a little hesitant to break it up a this point, but may need to do so anyway. Thanks in advance.

Ok, I did it. Project complete. It turned out that I did have enough RAM, just not enough to RAM preview it all. I did flatten quite a bit of it prior to the camera moves. And an additional challenge was when I wanted to add a 5 second clip at the beginning. I wound up adding a second camera because all my timing was thrown off.

Hey Bogie, I was thinking of starting a separate thread in the FCP or Compressor forums with recommended encodes for getting this monster of a file on the web. I tried several iterations and finally found one that both looked good, was big enough to watch, and small enough to load quickly. Does it make sense to start a new thread for which I already have the answer?

It seems there is no way to split an event-clip (a clip that appears in the Event browser). You can split Events--but only if they consist of more than one clip. And then you can only split them between two clips. People who have transferred analog video tapes (e.g., Video8) to their computers with the help of iMovie end up with Events that are the same length as their video tapes. So this usually means 2-hour events (consisting of one clip). But iMovie has a synchronization problem for such DV files. This problem would be mitigated by having shorter events. Hence the desire to split events. I thought a read somewhere a workaround for splitting event-clips, but if was a few months ago. I wouldn't think there is any reason we cannot split event clips, other than a preference for non-destructive editing. But a bit of destruction may be worthwhile if it improves synchronization. Does anyone know a way to split clips in the Event browser?

Is there a way to split .avi files?

I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but it's the only logical place I could find, since I'm using Tiger.
What I'm wondering is this: Since I have certain videos that are larger than 4.37GB, there are some that I cannot burn to disk. I'm pretty sure that I do not have the versions of the Powerbook that have the dual-layer burner, so that's out of the question, too.
So, is there a way in Tiger to split .avi files? I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Is there a way to combine two projects?

I've videoed several sets of footage from related events that may be combined into a single DVD at some point, but which were long enough to stand on their own. However, they are currently being used in two separate projects. Is there any way to transfer edited clips from one project to another and still retain the editing that was done? One of these projects was done with 2 continuous cameras and the other with 3, so the amount of editing that would have to be done twice could be substantial. I'm currently using PE3.02 in Vista. Thanks!

With the timeline selected, go to File/Export/Movie and export each as a DV-AVI video.
You can then combine those AVIs into a new project with virtually no loss of quality.
