Is there a way to structure the library

Hi All,
I would love to be able to have a more flexible overview of all my files in the Library. I have it sorted by Artist. The list is quite long and if I am looking for a song by U2, I have to scroll and scroll, just to get to the letter U.
Is there a way to "collapse" all the songs and only show the artist, scroll down to the right one and "open" that artist only. And maybe collapse all the albums aswell.
So then you would have 1 line per artist, open it and have 1 line per album, open an album and have all the songs listed.
It seems such a simple thing, but I can't find out if I can do it or how.

Have you tried using the Browse option? Clicking on the browse Eye icon on top the right of the screen will make three panes appear, Genre, Artist and Album. You can use these to filter the Library view. By clicking on a particular Artist for instance the view of you Library will change and you will just see works by that Artist you are interested in. Have a look on this page you'll see a picture of the browser half way down on the left under playlist tips: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/hottips/

  • Is there a way to delete the Library Slide Show?

Is there a way to delete the Library Slide Show? It references a lot of old images that are no longer on my hard drive, and it looks like it will take ages to click on Cancel for every no-longer-existant image. Can I delete the whole slide show somehow? (It won't let me do it from within the program as far as I can see).
    Thanks,
    Richard

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Then try deleting the library again.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Is there a way to collapse the library history view so instead of seeing individual entries they are all grouped by Today, Yesterday, This Week, etc.?

In a previous version of Firefox, when I brought up history using Ctrl+Shift+H, the library would show my history collapsed into Today, Yesterday, This Week, etc. In the current version of Firefox I am using, it shows each individual entry. Is there a way to change this view?

There are two panes one on the left one on the right.
*The right-hand one shows content of folders from the tree on the left.
*Clicking the black arrow-head on the clock denoting the top of the History collapses or expands that part of the tree.
*Clicking the clock itself displays the top content on the right i.e. it will display the folders for Today etc.
*Click any folder and the content of that folder then displays on the right. If you have used the browser quite a bit you probably need to scroll the righthand pane to see all the content.
The bookmarks are also within folders that behave in a similar manner. With certain viewing options you will even see that type of behaviour when looking at some Windows files and folders.

  • HT1329 The computer which had my library on it was stolen, but I still have my fully loaded Ipod.  Is there any way to download the library from my ipod?  It contains much music which was loaded from cds as well as directly from itunes.

Any input on how to move a library from your ipod classic when the original computer was stolen?  Especially when there is large quantities of music that is not downloaded, but uploaded from cd.

  • I had to purchase a new MacBook when my old one was stolen. We have two other MacBooks that use the ITunes library.  Is there any way to get the library transferred to my new computer.

I had to purchase a new MacBook when my old one was stolen.  We have two other MacBooks in the family that use the ITunes library.  How do I get the full ITunes library on the new computer when I don't have access to the old computer?

If your backup copy of the old computer was not stolen, then use it to put everything back.

  • Any way to update the library automatically?

As amazing as it sounds, I only recently tried Itunes for Windows after using Windows Media Player for years.
Is there any way to have the library update automatically when I download music files to my music folder the way WMP does, without having to import them?

The lack of a watch folder is probably to avoid people setting the download folder of thier PvP program as watched. Anything you purchase from the iTunes music store will go directly into iTunes, anything you rip from CDs using iTunes will also go their automatically. Almost all other purchased music is protected WMA which won't even play in iTunes. So the only songs that won't go directly are the fairly uncommon legal mp3 downloads, and all the illegal ones. (and I know about all the legal FLAC stuff out there, but that will have to be converted as well, since iTunes doesn't support FLAC).

Save all the photos from your Droid into a folder on your computer.
Connect your device to your computer. On iTunes left Pane, select iPhone under 'Devices'; then on the right Pane, select PHOTO tab.  Make sure Sync Photo box is checked, and "from" box selected the folder that has Droid's photos.  Then click the SYNC or APPLY button on the lower right window.

  • 4 people in our family have an iphones or ipod on the same apple id ..so that we can all share the itunes library. however  this means that we all get each others imessages. is there a way of sharing  itunes library with 4 separate ids?

4  of us in the family with iphonesor ipods share the same apple id so that we can share the itunes library . However , this means we all receive each others imessages, unless we disable imessaging. Is there a way of sharing itunes library (ie.g with 4 separate ids) that avoids the sharing of imessages? .

Thanks, Terence, but if she was inclined to upload things, I wouldn't need access!
Here is an example: we go on vacation, she takes 250 photos, edits twenty of the best shots, and uploads three to facebook.  I want to make an album including some of the edited shots and some of the less perfect but still fun shots - so I need all 250 photos - uploading that many photos to a photosharing site takes forever even if she did it - but she won't.  I used to just hijack her computer for a day, but I'd like to be able to hijack her iphoto library without stealing her computer...if possible!
Thanks for any help you can offer!

  • I got a new computer and backed up my iTunes library to an external hard drive.  The external hard drive is not allowing me to access the drive.  Is there a way to transfer the songs from my iPod touch to my new computer?

I got a new computer and backed up my iTunes library to an external hard drive.  The external hard drive is not allowing me to access the drive.  I no longer have access to the old computer.  Is there a way to transfer the songs from my iPod touch to my new computer?

That's a bummer, didn't realize the exHD files were corrupt, esp if you have tried from another PC and not just this new computer.
You can get purchases from the itunes store transferred from an iPod using these directions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848?viewlocale=en_US
If you want everything (meaning non-itunes songs, app data, photos, etc) you need to buy a 3rd-party ipod manager that support iTouch. Here is an iLounge article to start your research:

Ok so I cant open my Itunes due to Windows Error 2 and the message says to uninstall and re-install Itunes but I'm pretty sure that would wipe the library right? Is there any way to fix the problem and keep my library?

    Hi neffn!
I have an article for you that can help you go through that process of uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. If you have Windows 7, you will want to see this article:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
and if you are using Windows XP, you will want to reference this article:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
Note that, as it says in those articles:
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. If you're unsure how to backup, see iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • Is there a way to get the version of the C++ coherence library

    Hi,
I've noticed that the API for the PofExtractor class has changed from 3.5.1 to 3.5.2. It does break binary compatibility so I need a way to know if I'm loading the right dll.
Is there a way to get the version of the C++ coherence library? I've been unable to find a "getVersion" like function in the C++ headers...

    Hi Serge,
It sounds like you are looking for a way to do this at runtime, which unfortunately we do not have. We do have an existing enhancement request (COH-2399) to add this support, but it is currently not available.
You can check the library version externally in a few ways however:
    - run "sanka -version", using the sanka.exe tool shipped with coherence, it will print out the version string of the coherence DLL it loads
    - use the standard UNIX "what" command supplying it the shared library, and it will do the same, even on Windows
You could in fact write your own version of 'what' in a function and then do things programatically. Here is the description from the 'what' man page.
what reads each file name and searches for sequences of the form
``@(#)'', as inserted by the source code control system. It prints the
remainder of the string following this marker, up to a null character,
newline, double quote, or ``> character.''
So basically scan the library binary for the pattern and you'll find the version string.
Regarding PofExtractor, it was unfortunate we had to break backwards compatibility, it is not something we do often, or take lightly. Please note that we did it in such a way to still retain on the wire compatibility, so if that is the reason for your question you should be able to simply not worry about it.
    thanks,

  • Is There A Way To Normalize The Volume Of My Library Without "Sound Check"?

Is there a way to put the volume of my entire library at say, +1.0 dB? It's annoying to have music that's at -5.7 and then listen to something that's at +2.0 and constantly having to adjust the volume. I have Sound Check enabled on my iPod but it really doesn't do much at all. Does anyone know if I can basically highlight everything or something and normalize the volume of my entire library so that it's at a specific dB level? The Volume Adjustment doesn't allow for specific figures and would require me to do it track by track which at 23,000+ tracks would take me an obscene amount of time to do. Thanks
EDIT: Have no idea why part of this is italicized it just did that by itself it seems.

You are correct, many people have noticed over the years that Sound Check does not work as advertised.
A more effective approach is to treat the files with a 3rd party volume normalization program. Although I have not personally used it, many users on this Forum have reported good results from an inexpensive program called iVolume.

  • Is there a way to change the download/up location for the imported Library?

    I user Vista 64bit
I have the latest version of Itunes
My OS is on my C: partition
My main hard drive space is on D:
I have installed Itunes to D:
When I try to import my music back to my Itunes after Downloading new copy
the music countinues to try to save it to C:
I have move the Itunes Library folder to D: , and when I try again it will create a new file in the C: again where there is not enough space. The C: drive is just for OS and a bit of additional room.
I have redownloaded Itunes, I have repaired itunes,
Is there a way to change the stored musice location or is this a built in feature of ITunes and there is nothing I can do about it?

i have the same problem. i bought a new external hard drive and i am trying to move my entire library onto it. i copied all of my itunes library onto it but when i tried to delete a song off of my initial C: drive to test it, i had to go in an individually change where the songs location was. i already tried changing where the itunes music folder was located however the library still says its located on the C: drive.
