Is there a way to totally install iTunes to a different drive D: instead of on C:?

I have a new computer with a small drive C: (an SSD) that I am reserving for just the Windows 7.  I have a much larger hard drive (D:) that I am putting data and other applications on.  I want to make sure that when I install iTunes (and import my library from my old PC) that it goes totally on Drive D:.
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I'm not sure if this will help but I recently moved to a new laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and moved my library from my old WinXP Home SP3 laptop. This new technology thing comes with a lot of headaches, compatibility issues and all (this is another story); but after trying to resolve issues I've come to understand a bit how the iTunes app works (without reading the multitudes of manuals that only serve to confuse us more).
iTunes keeps its files in a folder named, aptly, iTunes. In Windows 7 it is usually under a My Music folder and the structure looks something like this:
C:\Users\YourHomeFolder\My Music\iTunes - and may contain the folders - Album Artwork, iTunes Media, etc. - and a file iTunes Library.itl -- now this it the iTunes Library file.
In my setup, I have the iTunes Media folder in a different location (initially it was on a USB attached external drive, then later I moved it to a network attached drive). This iTunes Media folder is where all your iTunes media files are located. I have the ff folders in mine: Audiobooks, Automatically Added to iTunes, Mobile Applications, Music.
So after moving the 'gigantic'  iTunes Media to a new location (away and separate from the My Music\iTunes folder), how do I access this? If you just have a single iTunes Library, run iTunes, press Ctrl+, (or click Edit|Preferences) and go the the Advanced tab and in the iTunes Media folder location click Change and browse to the new location of your iTunes Media folder (literally). Select OK. Wait for iTunes to update everything (well not everything because this is where I'm still having issues with since I moved to a network attached storage). You may need to restart iTunes just to have all the files in your library updated.
Now you need to know one more piece of information since you might "desire" to have more than one iTunes Library. I did try this by having 2. Both were not located in the standard My Music\iTunes folders. I actually had one named D:\iTunes01 and the other R:\iTunes02. Then I copied the "iTunes Library.itl" file in each of these folders. The reason I did this? I wanted both libraries to use the same iTunes Media folder which contains all my music, videos, etc. but I want one of my iTunes Library (D:\iTunes01) configured for a specific device that I sync with it and the other folder (R:\iTunes02) configured for another device. Why you might ask? Another compatibility issue (which is another story).
So, how to switch between libraries?
Run iTunes by pressing the Shift Key and left clicking the iTunes application icon. Don't let go of the Shift Key until the Choose an iTunes Library dialog/windows pops up which gives you the option to Choose a Library or Create a New Library. Since I have an existing library I opted for the Choose a Library. Browse to your library folder (in my case either D:\iTunes01 or R:\iTunes02) and select (important) their respective iTunes Library.itl file. Click OK and your done. Next time you click on the iTunes icon it will open using the last used library. Repeat the Shift Key... process if you want to change libraries.
Hope this helps. Sorry for the lengthy explanation. Good luck.

Are these songs that you purchased from the iTunes Store or imported from outside of iTunes? If there are iTunes purchases, delete them from your main iTunes library and redownload them again at no cost via iCloud.

  • Is there a simple way to merge two iTunes libraries from different drives?

I have an iTunes library or, more significantly, an iTunes music folder, on a hard drive I haven't used in a while. I'd like to merge it into the one I'm using now.
Is there an easy way to do this, and what about duplicates and, especially, variant encodings of the same title?

if you're on iTunes 9, the easiest way would be to drag & drop the contents of the (external ?) hard drive into the *automatically add to iTunes* folder inside the iTunes folder of the target machine.
you will have duplicates, which can be deleted later on (or kept and filtered using smart playlists).

  • Is there a way to access my iTunes Library, which is stored on a (PC) External Hard Drive, on a MacBook Air (through an Apricorn Universal Hard Drive Adapter), without transferring the music files off of the external hard drive?

Is there a way to access my iTunes Library, which is stored on a (PC) External Hard Drive, on a MacBook Air (through an Apricorn Universal Hard Drive Adapter), without transferring the music files off of the external hard drive?
In other words, because the MacBook Air only has 120 gbs of hard drive space & my old hard drive, from a Lenovo, has 500 gbs of hard drive space (and I have over 120 gbs of music), I’m looking to manage my iTunes music from the external hard drive permanently. Upon attempting to access the iTunes library held on the external hard drive the following message comes up: “The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file”.  Is there a way to get around this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

You will have to engage a split library which means you will have to start answering questions on this forum because you will need to learn a lot about how iTunes works in order not that have a big mess at the end of it all.  It also won't be easy when the time comes to relocate it all to different drives.
You can go to advanced preferences and turn off organize media and copy to items to media folder when adding items to library.  Next read about how to selectively consolidate items to the external drive.

"...selected the new tracks directly in iTunes, Control-clicked on the selection, and saw that now you can consolidate selected items." - http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20090919000326840
Remember that when you start iTunes without the external drive turned on iTunes will present you with a bunch of broken links.  If you have automatic downloads enabled with iCloud you may have to turn that off to prevent iTunes from repopulating your drive trying to deal with those "missing" tracks.
If you add tracks in bunches to iTunes and want them to go to different media folders you will need to either add them by holding down the option key while dragging if the desired media folder is not the one set in preferences, or by changing the media folder in preferences.  Changing media folder preferences only applies to new files added, not old ones.
Okay, I am going to stop typing because you might just reply to me, "Oh, okay, forget it," and I don't need the exercise.

  • Is there a way to import in iTunes--from a CD--a partial track of a song?

is there a way to import in iTunes--from a CD--a partial track of a song? (i.E., there are a few seconds of junk-talk before the music begins; I'd like to omit the talk).

If you have the song in iTunes already you can select it and "Get Info" then under the options tab...I think it's options, I'm away from my computer....change the start time to a time that is after the talking intro.  From then on the song will start at the desired time.

  • Is there any way to re-install an app on my iPad 2 without synching?

I deleted and now want to re-install an app on my iPad 2. The App store tells me it's installed and I didn't see any way to re-install it from there.
Is there any way to re-install just one little app without having to haul out the big ol' laptop and do a synch?  Can I do anything through the cloud?
Many thanks for reading and apologies if this has been covered dozens of times....I couldn't see it when I did a search.
    C:

Restting the iPad may reset the Newsstand app as well. One other thing that you can try is to quit Newsstand, restart the iPad and see if that helps.
To quit Newsstand - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit the app by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on the Newsstand app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the app. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
BTW .... When you download an app again via the Purchased Tab from the App Store, you are downloading from the cloud. That is one of the features of iCloud. Your app purchases are stored "in the cloud" and downloaded from there. There is no need to sync with your computer.

  • Is there a way to update the itunes match to reflect changes that i have made on my computer

Every time i update itunes match it looses my alterations to my playlists and undoes any alterations to any albums i have made. Is there a way to update the itunes match to reflect changes that i have made on my computer?(Only copies new playlists and reverts old playlists to the way they were the first time I uploaded them) Any star ratings for albums are lost too if I put a star rating on them AFTER I first upload them to ITunes match.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and Merry Christmas you guys!

    HI
You don't need to select update iTunes match. It does not do what you expect!! You only need to make the changes and they will filter through to match naturally.

  • Is there any way i can restore itunes to an earlier time/date, just like system restore? Thanks!

    Hi..
Is there any way i can restore itunes to an earlier date/time? I accidentally lost a previous backup and now the file showing up is not the backup i want? Can i restore itunes to an earlier time like system restore on windows? Thanks!

Actually i had my iphone os upgraded so i made a backup prior.. After the upgrade, instead of restoring data back the iphone made a new backup, overwriting my last backup, so now all my data is gone and when i went to appdata, oldest backup made is the one made after the upgrade! So i am looking for an undo of that backup, kind of a system restore for itunes.. Any suggestions? Thanks!

As stated no you can't use iTunes, but you can use your iPod with Windows 98.

Anapod Reinitializer runs on all versions of Windows, so it allows Windows 98/ME users (who cannot use Apple's software because it only runs on 2000/XP) to format their iPods.

Anapod Explorer is hands-down the most advanced Windows software companion for your iPod. Also included are a built-in database called AnapodSQL and a one-of-a-kind web-based streaming interface to your iPod called Anapod Xtreamer.
