Is there a way to track down a stolen iPod?

So a week ago my purse with $600 worth of things including my iPod Touch(64 gb) has been stolen from my school. I notified the school and they did absolutly nothing about it.  I had no phone and my credit card has been canceled. I know the serial number and i'm planning to file a police report but before I do that I want to know if apple can tell me the email address associated with the serial number so I see if I know the person and include the email in my police report.

I notified the school and they did absolutly nothing about it.
Not even filing their own theft report or report to the police?

There was some data sent (that I saw from my cell phone provider) at around 7AM one morning while I was in bed.  I am concerned as to what this data was and would like to find out if it is possible to trace what the content was?  My cell provided indicated that they do not know what type of data it was.

    Hello Michael:
I have not yet seen a
good approach to using that information (short of
    deleting the account).

if something runs fine in another account - one can isolate the cause to one of the plist files in the main acct Home/Library/Preferences/ or possibly an add-on in Home/Library/Internet Pug-Ins or ...Input Managers for example.
If there is the same problem in the new acct - you can discount anything with the main acct user library - plists, caches, plugins, input managers, the whole lot.
A useful tool is Console - found in Applications/Utilities/ keep it running while the 'problem' in question crops up & see if any messages pop up in either the system log or console log. Sometimes these will point straight at the problem area, other times no help at all.

  • HT1414 is there any way to track down my iphone when i have lost it?

I lost my iphone and i have the "find my iphone" app and thought that it may work from my mac but I am not finding a way to do that, is there any way to track down my iphone from my mac?

On your Mac, login to iCloud.com, & try to locate your phone. This requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before you lost it. It also requires your phone be turned on & connected to the Internet. There is no other way to locate a lost iPhone, other than physically looking for it.

There is one faint glimmer of light. Depending on where you bought PSE you might have gotten a redemption code rather than a serial number. If you didn't also throw away your receipt, check that for a code. Then go here, if you find one:

But otherwise, I'm afraid you are out of luck, sorry.

Yhey,im wondering if there is any way to track down or finf ipod touch 4th gen. through the serial number?

No, the only way to track it is "Find My iPhone". And the app has to be installed and activated before your device is lost.

  • Is there anyway I can track down my stolen iphone without having iCloud set up?

Is there anyway I can track down my stolen iphone without having iCloud. The phone is already stolen.

I'm sorry for your unfortunate situation. This question is asked time and time again - sadly no, you cannot set up "Find my Mac" after it's lost or stolen. The whole point is that you have to set it up before you lose contact with it.
When you get a new Mac, this is one of the first screens you see - "Do you want to set up iCloud to Find My Mac?". I don't understand why anyone would answer "No".
There are third-party location utilities, but again, you have to set them up when the computer is still in your possession. I use Undercover by Orbicule - allows you to locate the computer and take webcam snapshots and keylogs of the person using it. I also have iCloud set up, so I have two options for location should it get lost or stolen.

  • How can i track down a stolen ipod touch with just my serial number

how can i track down a stolen ipod touch with just my serial number

You can't. The SN will only help identify the iPod as yours IF it is recovered.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • Is there any way i can get a stolen ipod back?

is there any way i can get a stolen ipod back?

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  Something as small as an iPod should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

  • Is there a way to track down the cause of crashes in SAFARI?

Not long ago I was able to eliminate one type of crash I had been having in SAFARI by following a suggestion made in this forum. Those crashes, however, were of the type that generated a 'crash report.' So they left a kind of 'paper trail' as to what was causing them.
More recently I have been having frequent crashes that don't result in such reports. These crashes occur apparently randomly when I mouseclick on a link. The spinning beach ball appears on-screen and never leaves.
Is there a way to find out exactly what is causing these crashes?
    Thanks.

  • Is there any way to track down and identify a corrupt clip or render?

Hey, help! Several of my most important projects seem to be going crazy with the "General Error" message and I can't render the timeline. I'm quite sure there must be acorrupt file or render somewhere, is there any way to identify them amongst all the thousands ther are?
    Greatly appreciate ANY help....
    Thanks, Alexandra

    Try this.
Move your project media folder to a new location. When you launch FCP you'll get a media off line message. accept it and do not try to reconnect.
Now, one at a time, reconnect the media. Do not do the 'reconnect all media in this location'.
If there is media corruption eventually you will find the clip that crashes things.
Trashing preferences won't hurt anything. FCP ATTIC is a nifty little application to do this for you. It can be found here:

  • Is there a way to track or report stolen ipads?

    Thank you

Call the police to report a stolen device. There is no way to track them aside from Find My Phone.
What To Do If Your iDevice or Computer Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi or cellular. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

My old ipod was stolen from my car. I have no serial number. Is there a way to get this blocked, i.e., can this info be gleaned from my itunes account?

As for automatic deletion of cookies: no, Safari does not do that. This means in practise that you have to click on Show Cookies and manually delete those you do not want retained. You obviously want to keep the ones for regularly visited sites (like Apple) to speed up log-in etc.
I have Cookie Preferences set to 'Accept cookies only for sites I visit', but I only wish to retain cookies for the sites i regularly visit, like these forums and others.
To that end I use a small app called SafariCookies:
    http://sweetpproductions.com/safaricookies/
which only works on Leopard (which is what we both have). This adds an item in Safari Preferences whereby you can automatically delete all cookies on shutdown, except those particular 'favourite' ones you wish to retain to avoid entering your user name and password each time you visit.
So, if you don't mark Facebook as a 'favourite', their cookies will be deleted on shut-down.

Not if you had not already installed and configured software for tracing it.  If you hadn't done that before it got stolen, your only option is to report it to the police and let them handle it.
