I got a new computer and backed up my iTunes library to an external hard drive. The external hard drive is not allowing me to access the drive. I no longer have access to the old computer. Is there a way to transfer the songs from my iPod touch to my new computer?
That's a bummer, didn't realize the exHD files were corrupt, esp if you have tried from another PC and not just this new computer.
You can get purchases from the itunes store transferred from an iPod using these directions:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848?viewlocale=en_US
If you want everything (meaning non-itunes songs, app data, photos, etc) you need to buy a 3rd-party ipod manager that support iTouch. Here is an iLounge article to start your research:

Is there a way to put the songs from my ipod to my itunes???
I think I did something and it erased some of my songs in the library but they are still on my ipod. what happened to the songs??? and is there a way to put the songs from my ipod onto my itunes?
Perhaps you may
i still
have the music files on your PC -- but not seen in iTunes.
Check using Windows Explorer in 'My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\...' for folders containing your music (or wherever you keep your music folders). If it is there, we can get iTunes to recognize it. Try one or both of these:
--- In iTunes choose: Edit==>Preferences==>Advanced tab. Select 'Change' and browse to the music folder in your PC drive (if it isnt already). Click OK to save that setting.
--- In iTunes choose: File==>Add Folder to Library & browse to the music folder in your PC drive. Click OK.
Also check in your Recycle Bin to see if you accidentally deleted it. If so, Restore it back to its original spot.
Then try running a search using Windows Explorer (or similar) for files with the extensions of: m4a, m4p, MP3,
i OR
with the partial names of the songs you are missing.
Do all the above before you decide that they have been completely erased from your hard drive.
If your music files are truly gone, and you have some or all of your music files on your iPod, these links will give you
i several
methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring playlists , ratings, counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you.

After recovering your song files, consider developing a backup strategy for just this type of situation. Below are some very good threads to read on the subject:

This question is for my Mom as she has she messed up her iTunes and is missing thousands of songs. She did not back them up to an external drive. She does, however, still have her iPod with all of her songs organized correctly.
I was able to get the songs from her iPod back to her iTunes; however, some of the albums are splitting into multiples albums (based on whether or not there are multiple artists on the track and/or album). Is there a way to fix this? If so, how? If not, is there a way to bring the iPod to an apple store and have them upload the songs directly from her iPod to iTunes match and then download from the cloud so there aren't syncing issues?IF the old hard drive is still accessible...

IF not, you can redownload all your past purchases. Setup the new iTunes with the same ID and password; select Purchases from the right-hand Quick Links column, then go thru all the tabs and redownload. -
Is there a way to transfer purchased songs from one iTunes account to a new iTunes account?
This is a bit difficult to explain so bear with me! My two little sisters, years ago, started buying music off the iTunes store. It was my account so now i have all their purchased songs and apps on my account. At the time they were too little to have thier own email so I just let them do it on mine, I didn't see any problem with it. However, now that I am on iCloud and they all have iphones, I am stuck with all their contacts, music, games, etc. I do not want their music so I am wondering if there is a way to transfer their purchased items onto a new iTunes account that I will set up for them (they are in high school now and have their own emails, etc.) I have searched online and haven't found a solution to this. Please help! I understand that only one account can have rights to a song, but I would like to transfer their purchased songs to a new account.
Purchases cannot be transferred to a new Apple ID.
You can stop receiving their info by signing out of iCloud. -
Hi Guys,
I have recently had my laptop stolen, therefore lost all my music etc.
I have a third generation 40GB iPod with most of the music on it (ripped from CD's etc.)
Is there anyway I can transfer the mp3's from this iPod to my new computer? Just so I can transfer it to my new iPod touch.
It's going to be a pain having to buy all the mp3's.See this excellent user tip from another forum member turingtest2 outlining the different methods and software available to help you copy content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Is there a way to transfer garageband songs from my ipad2 to iphone4 without a computer?
I travel a lot and my goal is to record songs in garageband on the ipad 2, upload them to my iphone to use the film apps and make a video based on where i am at the moment. This for me would be an ideal portable , creative studio and i thought it would be easy to do but all indications are that i need a computer to get things transfered via itunes which kind of defeats the purpose of being mobile. Would be great if i could email the track to my mac account, open it on my iphone and then download it to itunes where i can then select for use in app film videos. It will then get uploaded to facebook. Any solutions? If not, please apple make this change so we dont have to be tied down to a computer. Any help is much appreciated!
When you email them to yourself there is then no way to download it straight to itunes. If you have been able to do this without a computer id like to kmow how you did it?

see question
So what would happen if you lost your iPod or it was stolen? Answer, all your music would be gone.
The iPod is not a storage device.
Do you have a backup of your media from your old computer? If so, copy all your media from that backup to your new computer.
Otherwise, try searching the forums for an answer to your question. This EXACT same question is asked and answered many times every day. -
