Is there a way to turn a text character into an image?

Is it possible to turn a text character into an image/shape...using Pages or any other iLife or iWorks app?
Reason being - I want to use a certain font and a character in it, but that particular font is not being recognized/shown properly by another computer. I want to make sure the text character shows up as I intend, and I figure the way to do that is by turning the text character into an image/shape (like a jpeg maybe? or a tiff or gif? I don't know too much about the difference between these last two). Then I can paste that image onto any background and have it still look like text laying on top of the background.

Although it saves the text character as an image, it also saves the background (the white of the page) as part of that image. So when the character is pasted into a document whose background is anything other than white, it doesn't look like a simple text character anymore. It looks like a white box with a text character in it. You know what I mean?
I'm thinking I might need to use whole 'nother graphics program to do this whole deal...what do you think?
Rather than using Preview, create the new image from the clipboard in GraphicConverter & use the transparency wand to make the background transparent. Then use ⌘ E to select just the image & save, choosing to save just the selection.

Is there a way to turn off text messaging while you listen to songs/videos?

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to temporarily turn off text messaging while you are listening to a song or video? I find it very annoying that if I let someone listen to the videos on my phone - that while they are doing that and a text comes in - it shows up right on the phone for them to read it. This did not play out too well when my girlfriend was listening to it yesterday.(keep all smart comments to a minimum please, lol). Can you turn off texting while you listen and then turn it back on when you finish? Please say yes... Thanks

Nathan, thanks for that info....I appreciate that. That makes a lot of sense (what you said about airplane mode) and seems to be a good feature. I had been told a couple of times by airline personnel to please turn off my phone.
This seems to be the answer I was looking for. I just hope that it will still play in my car. I was finally able to find a Belkin Cable to connect it to to hear music. I have an auxillary port for it. That is where & when the trouble lies. When I am listening to the ipod portion - watching a video - and hearing the music come from my speakers in the car. All of a sudden, a text comes through and you can read it & it asks where you want to 'view' or 'ignore'. I'm gonna test it...

I am trying to get the text written into the text box in the AWTFrame.
I have tried the following:

It should but I haven't tested all types of alerts yet. If it doesn't you can contact them. I contacted them about 3 weeks ago mentioning that it would be wonderful if they were able to add the mute feature during calls. They responded right away and said they'd work on it. I got an email from them earlier today letting me know about the new update. I have to say, that's what I call service! And I don't see any other App quite like theirs.

I have an Illustrator CS3 doc in which all text has been converted to outlines. (I wish I had an intelligent answer to the question of why I don't have the original doc with live text, but...) I remember seeing a post some time ago that explained how to change the outlines back into live text, which may have involved making a pdf or something, but I can't find that post anywhere in the Adobe forums. I had to test it. Yes, you can use Acrobat Pro to OCR the text. First you'll need to rasterize the outlined text in AI (at 300dpi bitmap) and save as PDF. Then open in Acrobat and go to "Documents>OCR Text Recognition" to convert the image to text. Click "Edit" in the "Recognize Text dialog window and select "Formatted Text & Graphics" to view only the text in Acrobat. Save and re-open in AI. The text will be editable, but broken into individual words. You can cut multiple words to the clipboard then click with the text tool and paste, to merge the text into a contiguous sentence, but you'll lose the spaces. Exporting as text from Acrobat may be a better route.

The only one left is the "unsubmitted text" dialogue, which would not be a problem if I were not a Facebook user; after updating the "Richard is..." field (which does not require a manual submit to actually send) I get the above message. This is obviously Safari just not realising that the info has been sent and is therefore (I imagine) one for Apple themselves to answer!!

Not being a Facebook User, I'm not sure how to respond to the error situation. However, this would be something to report to Apple as a bug via the Safari Menu. First, open to the page in question, then select "Report Bugs to Apple".

You can use this simple workariound:
copy the desired text and paste it in a simple text editor app like notepad (win) or textedit (mac).
Then copy this unformatted text and paste it in photohop.

You have the gmail account loaded on the old phone?
All is not lost. Try this route. I can't remember but does the Droid 2 on an on-board file explorer?If you have Astro or Estrongs file explorer on the new phone, make a backup of SMS Backup to the SD card. Put the sd card in the old phone , turn on the ability for third-party apps. Install the apk you saved from the other phone. Run the backup. Swap the card to the other phone properly. Restore on the new phone.

For whatever reason when I have my express extend my wifi at home the download speed from just the express is absolutely terrible, drops to about 1.5 mb compared to when it's on the extremes part of the network the speed goes up to 50-75mb. These terrible download speed really only affects the iPhones as my MacBook Pro usually gets the good speed no matter where it is. I don't believe there is anything wrong with my phone because if I am in the part of the house that uses just the extreme the download speeds on the iphone goes up to 50-75mb. As a note I have an AirPort Extreme on the top floor of my house (second floor) that's where my modem is located. On the first floor that's where one airport express is located. I also have another airport express in the basement that is accessed by my landlord. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be helpful.

It appears that your networking goals with the AirPort Express is to use it as a wireless Ethernet bridge instead of using it to extend the wireless range of your AirPort Extreme. The latter requires that the Express Wi-Fi radios be enabled.
If you intended to use the Express as a wireless bridge, you just need to reconfigure it to "Join a wireless" network instead of "Extend a wireless network."

In an extended network, the placement of the extending base station is critical as it can only extend the wireless network at the bandwidth at which it receives it.
